The maid knelt on the floor to gather up the debris and looked at her timidly, saying, "Mrs. Mason, Mr. Mason said before he went out that he had important business today and told me not to disturb him."

Evelyn gave her a hard stare.

The maid wiped her hands, got up, and walked toward the phone. "Mrs. Mason, if you're not feeling well, I'll call the hospital."

"Get the hell out of here!"

Evelyn was furious, pointing at the maid and cursing fiercely.

She was not feeling unwell. She just wanted Cedrick back.

The maid didn't dare to stay any longer and hurriedly retreated.

Silence returned to the living room as the last rays of the setting sun receded and Evelyn sat motionless in the shadows.

She gently stroked her bulging belly, her voice creepy. "Honey, you must be a boy."

It was midnight when Cedrick finally returned.

There were no lights on in the living room. Evelyn's icy voice came from the darkness. "Cedrick, is that you?"

Cedrick was silent for a moment an
