Vienna's POV:
I stood in front of my dresser, holding the mascara wand in hand, trying to perfect my smile. I practiced again in the mirror, although it felt more like a forced rehearsal.
Today was supposed to be a milestone birthday, but so far, it was turning into a day of endless embarrassment. But as much as I wanted to spend the rest of the day rotting in my bed, I couldn't skip the gala.
I had to get ready for the ancient rituals that were going to be held later.
As I swept the mascara across my lashes, coating them evenly, my gaze drifted to the small open box of opal earrings sitting on the dresser.
My father’s customary birthday gift… I snapped the box shut, feeling a pang of annoyance as I tucked it away into a drawer filled with identical boxes.
Fifteen of them to be precise, stacked neatly beside one another.
Every year, without fail, he tossed the same earrings at me, probably considering that it was a thoughtful gift. He didn’t even care to remember which ones he had already given me… just another token in the endless parade of his expectations and the acts he puts on for the sake of formality.
I was pulled out of my thoughts when the door creaked open behind me. I saw her reflection in the mirror before I heard her voice.
My stepmother, Tessa, dressed head to toe in a designer outfit and matching accessories, glided into the room.
Her one-shoulder gown was much fancier and more expensive than mine; but these things didn't bother me anymore. After all, she was a social butterfly, always enjoying the attention that came with her sparkling personality… at least from the outside.
“You look more decent than usual today, I have to say,” she cooed, stepping closer to me and fixing the strap on my shoulder.
Her sugary tone made my skin crawl, but I kept my expression neutral.
“Thank you,” I said flatly, not in the mood to speak with her.
Engaging with her would only escalate into an argument, and there was no point in that.
Tessa was always going to win, no matter what.
She smirked, highlighting the mole above her lip before she opened her mouth.
“Your dad wants to open the bottle of McKenna 65 for his guests this evening. Though, I don’t think the occasion is special at all...”
She trailed off with a wave of her hand. “Anyway! If you’re done wasting your time dancing in front of the mirror, just go and be useful for once. Fetch the bottle from the wine cellar and bring it to your dad.”
Forcing down the irritation bubbling inside me, I nodded, lowering my gaze.
“Sure, I’ll get it.”
Of course, I knew why Tessa said that; it was just another way to degrade me in my own eyes.
There were at least a dozen servants who could have gone down to the cellar, not to mention the staff Dad must have hired to organize the party.
But no, she had to remind me of my place in this house. This party may have been for my birthday, but it was just a way for my father to put on a show in the eyes of the world.
“Go on, I don't want to see your stupid face any longer! Do you need a map to go down to the basement now? How you've taken after your dumb whore of a mother…”
She snapped at me before storming out of my room, jolting me into action. I was still the unnecessary reminder of a mother who was no longer here. A woman my father hadn’t been loyal to, even in her lifetime.
Not wanting to create more drama tonight, so I took the easy way out.
Walking up the narrow staircase leading out of the cellar, the stale air following me outside, someone stepped in front of me, blocking my path.
Gemini, of course. Her smirk was already in place, as if she had been waiting for this.
“Well, well, look at you. Such a good little wardboy! I guess mom found a way to make you useful after all…”
I would have sidestepped Gemini, but the stairway was too narrow– I had no choice but to confront her.
"What do you want, Gemini?" I asked, trying to keep the irritation from spilling into my voice, but it was hard.
She grinned, all too pleased with herself. "Oh, I want lots of things, Vienna! But you don’t have control over any of those."
She leaned against the railing, twirling a lock of her strawberry blonde hair between her manicured fingers.
"So, tell me—how do I look?"
She wiggled her eyebrows, playfully while I stared at her, dumbfounded.
Had she seriously just stopped me on the stairs to ask that, of all things?
I barely gave her a once over before answering.
“You look fine. Now, move."
But Gemini wasn’t going to let it go so easily. She pouted to show her displeasure before whining loudly,
"Don’t be so salty, Vienna! I can't help it if I look much better than you on your day of ritual. Who knows, even your mate will end up liking me more? Anyway, you can at least compliment me properly. Tell me—do you think Ashton will like me in this?"
She twirled on the staircase, showing off her candy-pink, skin-tight dress that ended on her mid-thigh.
My fingers tightened around the neck of the wine bottle I was holding, feeling like I should break it over her head. But that will only bring her more attention, which is exactly what she wanted…
Did she really have the nerve to ask me that question, after everything she had done? Sure, I knew now that Ashton was nothing but a piece of trash, but once upon a time, I had loved him.
And tonight…it was supposed to be the night the ritual would be completed, and he would become my mate.
I counted down from ten in my head.
"I’ll give you five seconds to step aside," I said, my voice low enough to convey the threat.
“Or don’t blame me for what happens next."
Gemini scoffed, flipping her hair over her shoulder.
“Oh come on! Why are you so irritated? Just because he left you for me?"
That's enough, and I snapped. Pulling a sugary sweet smile on my face, I asked her in the same innocent tone she was faking.
"Irritated? Why would I be? I’m actually thankful, because I got the best birthday present! You and Ashton are trash that took itself out. So technically, you saved me the trouble."
Her eyes flickered with uncertainty, but she covered it up with a laugh.
"Come on, why don’t you admit it, Vienna? You’re still hung up on him."
Vienna's POV:“I'm not over him? Really!!”I scoffed, taking a pause and looking dead in her eyes before continuing.“So, my dear bitch… I mean, my only dear step sister! If you're forgetting it, then let me refresh your memory. I'm the one who kissed someone just this morning, with the whole college watching. While you're the one who was sneaking kisses from my boyfriend in some hidden, shady alley… I guess you know better about who's not over whom!”I bet Gemini was not expecting me to answer her back, and this much was evident in her expressions. After all, I had always kept up the dignified act of us being sisters, even though she had never acted like one to me. But today, she had crossed all her limits; hence giving me a pass for the same.Guessing by the way she snarled at me, lunging towards my neck with her teeth bared, I didn't think she agreed with my principle of tit-for-tat. Sidestepping her at the last moment, I avoided her sharp nails which passed a hair's breadth from
Vienna's POV: Mate…The word stubbornly echoed in my mind, refusing to settle down for even a second. I felt like my world had shifted on its axis, and I was still struggling to regain my footing on this slippery floor. My wolf, who had refused to say a single word to me all these years, had somehow made an appearance? But she had left out one important bit of information: who was it? Who was my mate!? Desperately, I repeated the question in my head, hoping for any answer from my wolf. But no matter how many times I tried, I was met with nothing but absolute, radio silence from the other end.She had left me hanging, just when I needed her most. Really, really great timing!Realizing that no help was coming from her, I tried to look around to figure out who or what had triggered this announcement. And without my approval or consent, my eyes found Kai and Fynn again. The Alphas of the Azuremist pack… could one of them be–But before I could even complete that thought, I heard m
Vienna's POV: Asher’s grip on my wrist was still iron-tight, but I was numb to the pain by now. If I was bleeding, I didn’t care. He was dragging me behind him furiously, like I was some rebellious child caught misbehaving in public; and now it was his duty to enforce the consequences. He pulled me to the end of the hallway, swinging me around with a rough and sudden pull, slamming my back against the wall. The impact was sharp as he trapped me between himself and the wall, and finally, he let go of my wrist, leaving angry red marks and smears of blood on my skin. Without paying them any mind, he brought both his hands up to his face, rubbing it in frustration before letting out a sharp, angry bark. “Are you done, Vienna? Haven’t you thrown enough tantrums already? Now, what else do you want from me? Do you really expect me to try and please you with some stupid flowers or gifts? Is that it? I don’t know what you're expecting or what kind of crap you have filled your head with,
Vienna's POV: The voice didn’t belong to me. It didn’t belong to Asher, either. My head snapped toward its source, heart racing, as the words echoed in the hallway. My eyes darted to the left, then to the right as Asher loomed over me, his rage radiating out of him. He looked like he could snap someone in half at any moment, and I was the nearest one in sight… And just then, my gaze landed on Fynn. He was leaning against the wall, a glass of an amber colored drink in his hand, looking at me like we were the only two people in the room. His eyes were warm, and a small smile curved his lips, as if none of the chaos in front of him was phasing him at all. On the other hand, Asher snapped as soon as he turned around, barking at Fynn. “You! What the hell are you doing here? Who invited you? And what the fuck do you want?”Fynn tilted his head slightly and shrugged, as if he was amused by Asher’s sudden aggression. “Funny of you to ask! When you are the one keeping my girlfriend occu
Vienna's POV: Before our lips could touch, a voice made us both whip our heads in its direction.“Vienna! Are you okay? I was so worried about you, you know…" The sweet, familiar voice rang out, announcing the arrival of someone, moments before Lola turned the corner and appeared in the hallway. "Asher came out a few minutes ago, and I was waiting, but you didn’t show up. Did he do something to hurt you…?" Her sentence trailed off, her eyes widening as she took in the scene before her: me standing against the wall, inappropriately and impossibly close to Fynn. "Oh." The single syllable carried many implications that made my cheeks burn with embarrassment. Her eyes nearly fell out of their sockets, and her mouth opened and closed a few times, like she was trying to process what she was seeing.“I’m sorry.” She finally managed to push out a few words, although she started stammering seconds later. “I didn’t mean to interrupt, I… I…”"Lola!" I exclaimed, a little startled by
Vienna's POV: I felt like there was a gentle, yet powerful force holding my face upwards, towards the Moon Goddess herself. Like the firm hold of a mother's hand, compelling me to raise my chin as my eyes were sealed shut. There was darkness… only darkness around me, and all I could hear were faint whispers all around me. The spirits of the ancestors. The voices were in a language I couldn't understand but still felt familiar… like if I tried hard enough, I might understand what they were saying. But the tones were overlapping and blurring together, filling my mind with words I couldn’t decipher. My pulse pounded in my ears, and the whispers seemed to grow louder and more urgent, pushing into my mind until I thought my head might explode. And then, the force holding me went slack in an instant. My face lowered down and I could feel my body again, as if I was a puppet whose strings had just been cut. But the next moment, I felt a strange sensation, like I was being pulled forward.
Vienna's POV: The effect of the bond was instant, as I felt an electrifying pulse travel from the tips of my fingers to the pit of my stomach. My knees buckled, like I might collapse from the intensity of this moment. But before I could fall back, Fynn’s arm tightened around my waist, holding me steady. Kai finally broke the kiss, his dark eyes glowing. Still gasping for air, I turned to face Fynn. For a moment, he looked like he wasn't expecting me to turn around to face him, and he asked hesitantly, “Vienna, are you sure…? You can–” “Yes!”I cut him off, my heart thundering as I raised on my tiptoes to press my lips against his. His lips met mine, and the bond flared to life again, consuming me from head to toe.Behind me, I could feel Kai’s presence, his chest pressed against my back as if he couldn’t bear to be far from me.‘Oh Moon Goddess, please tell me I'm making the right decision…’Praying silently, I closed my eyes, leaning into the kiss with everything I had. Whe
Vienna's POV: “Or else it won't be my fault, whatever happens to you, in the rage I am already carrying because of this disgrace of my daughter–”“Dad, please…” My voice trembled as I tried to find my voice. No matter what he did or said to me, Lola was innocent and he couldn't vent his frustration there. “Don’t take your anger out on her. She’s just speaking as my friend—” “Shut up!” My father snapped, the words hitting me smack, like a whip. “You ill mannered girl. How dare you tell me what to do? Especially after what you have done, and the disgrace you have already called on the family… rubbing the colour of shame on my face. Don't you dare to utter a single word out of your mouth, let alone trying to teach me what is right and what is wrong!” My lips clamped shut, as he whispered with his teeth clenched tightly. “I am warning you, I don’t care whether you live or die. Do you hear me? I’ll disown you and throw you out of this pack right now if you don’t do as I say. So,
Vienna's POV: My heart was about to stop. Why? Why was it always like this?Every time I thought the pain was over… every time I dared to believe that the worst was behind me, the ground slipped from beneath my feet, dragging me into a deeper darkness. I had just gotten Fynn back. Just wrapped my fingers around something whole again, was I cursed to always live a life that was only half-finished? Was this my fate… to watch everything I loved get ripped away from me piece by piece?I tried to swallow my sobs, force the tears rolling down my cheeks to turn back inside, to stop betraying me. But they wouldn’t. My body shook too hard. My chest felt like it was splitting open. My heart… my entire soul was being torn apart as I stared at Kai’s motionless form.“No, no, no, look at me…” I begged, brushing his hair back from his pale forehead. My voice cracked, seeing Kai's eyes rolling back. “You’re not leaving me like this. Not now.”I pressed both palms against his wound, trying to st
Fynn’s POV:He thought I was going to spare him.Axel’s breaths came fast, ragged, as he stared into my eyes… still crouched beneath me, bloody and broken. That sick glimmer of hope danced in his gaze, but it was too late. Too much had been said. Too much had been done. You don’t threaten my family and walk away breathing. And if he hoped to manipulate me by dangling a secret like poison over my head, Axel was only proving what an idiot he was. Nothing he said would ever be enough to stop me. My jaws hovered over his neck, lips curled back, my breath ragged with fury. Every muscle in my body trembled, screaming for release. But before I could deliver the killing blow, a sharp pain tore through my left shoulder, hot and, brutal.I snarled and stumbled as fangs sunk into my flesh.Axel's Beta, Johnson. The bastard bit hard, grinding his jaw as if he could rip a chunk out of me. Pain exploded down my side, and blood oozed out between his teeth. But the pain only intensified my rage.I
Fynn's POV:I turned just in time to see the knife hit Kai.Everything in my brain went silent for a moment and I wasn't able to understand what I was feeling right now, was the pain Kai had to endure because of that knife or the fact that somehow knowingly or unknowingly, I was guilty behind everything that was happening right now.It lodged deep into his shoulder, with a force that was making his body jerk. His knees buckled slightly, but he managed to stay upright. My eyes followed the trail of blood that dripped down his back, and then I saw it—just a faint smear on the blade, but it was unmistakable. Vienna’s blood. She was also hurt. The same blade had nicked her arm moments ago, and now it was embedded in Kai. The realization hit me so hard I felt like I’d taken the knife to my own chest. My breath caught in my throat. For a second, all I could do was stare.Vienna stood a few feet away, her eyes wide, her mouth trembling, and her arm bleeding. She had risked everything to warn
Vienna's POV:“And now, I’ve returned for it!”Fynn’s voice cold, and resolute, spread through the chaos, triggering shouts in support of the Supreme Alpha. But for me, it felt like everything around me went completely still for a second… right before the storm hit. One of Axel’s guards surged forward with his blade raised, aiming straight for Fynn’s unprotected back. My heart lurched violently in my chest. No!The name tore from my throat with desperation as I bolted forward, Zeke clutched tightly in my arms.Fynn moved just in time, spinning around and catching the soldier’s arm mid-swing. Giving it a sharp twist– there was a loud crack and the guard screamed as he collapsed to the ground, writhing in pain. But another soldier was already creeping up behind Fynn, and I knew that with all his focus on Axel now. he wasn't going to see this one in time.My legs pumped faster, bare feet skimming over dirt and bloodied ground, heart thudding like thunder. Zeke held onto me with all h
Author's POV:The battlefield roared with chaos as steel clashed against claw, and the scent of blood thickened the air. The wolves of Azuremist fought with unyielding ferocity, their formation tested again and again by the relentless onslaught of Oasis soldiers. Growls and howls echoed through the valley, accompanied by the sickening crunch of bone and screams of pain.Kai moved like a shadow of death across the field, his massive black wolf form slicing through enemy ranks with merciless precision. His muscles flexed under his dark fur, his fangs flashing as he brought down a soldier, then twisted to throw another into the dirt. His paws were soaked with blood, but he didn’t stop—not even to breathe. Every fallen enemy was another step closer to protecting his mate and son.Fynn, meanwhile, fought in human form, standing tall amidst the violence, the commanding calm in the eye of the storm. His voice was sharp and steady as it rang through the mind link."Group B to the north side—r
Author's POV: Fynn saw Kai rushing out, having sensed that something was definitely not right.Because knowing Kai’s power and the strength of the Oasis pack, Kai shouldn't be worrying this much, as they could never match their strength in any way, so every situation should be under control. But this sudden departure of Kai, without him was making him extremely uneasy and it was becoming a little difficult for him to control his uneven breaths.Even though he could point what exactly was not feeling right in his head, still his heart was sure that it was the same feeling he had years back, when he was separated from everyone in the past.Because even if in his past he has been blaming both Kai and Enna for the mistakes they never did, he now has understood how big of an idiot he actually was and how he was the one at fault, while Kai has done his best to save him, search him and bring him back to the home, he has been snatched away from. And now when he has finally realised his mista
Gemini’s POV:The cold never left the dungeon walls. It seeped into my bones, even when the air outside burned with sunlight. Down here, it didn’t matter if it was summer or winter—misery had no seasons.I sat curled on the stone floor, my knees tucked to my chest, the iron cuffs weighing heavily on my wrists. The chains didn’t rattle anymore—I didn’t have the strength to pace, not like I used to. Not like I did when I first got thrown in here and thought this would all blow over soon. That was months ago. Now, I just waited. Waited for the sentence to be over. Or for someone to remember I existed.Funny, isn’t it? How fast things change.I used to think my life was difficult before—when Vienna was still in our house, hiding her pretty little smile and walking on eggshells around us. I had always felt like I was in her shadow despite being better than her. Always chasing after something I thought I deserved but could never reach. But when she left, when she finally disappeared from o
Kai's POV: “We… are… under… attack…” The moment the soldier gasped out those dreaded words, my instincts kicked in, before his body even hit the ground. My blood turned to fire. Not again… I was not losing my family again– not now, when I just got them back. I surged forward and caught him as he collapsed, but it was too late. The arrow in his back was already soaked in blood, the shaft slick and glistening. I gently laid him down, my hands clenched into fists. There was no need to ask questions about who had done this– of course, there was only one person who could be behind this dirty game… Axel. My wolf snarled inside me, furiously demanding to be unleashed. “Fynn!” I shouted, already turning toward the stairs. “We are under siege, initiate the lockdown protocol!" My fingers closed around the arrow in his back, yanking it free with a sickening crunch. "Send Beta Nobu for a perimeter check. Now.” Vienna stood in the hallway, clutching Zeke to her chest as she
Vienna's POV:I slowly became aware of my surroundings as I woke up, wrapped in a bundle of warmth and love. Kai’s arm was wrapped over my waist, while I could feel Fynn’s steady breathing against my back. At some point during my slumber, Zeke must have wandered into our room and climbed on top of me. His little body was curled into mine, his soft snores puffing against my collarbone. For the first time in three years, my heart didn’t ache as soon as I opened my eyes. Carefully, I turned on my side so Zeke slid gently onto the mattress, still fast asleep. I kissed his soft cheek, then turned to place a light kiss on Fynn’s jaw, then Kai’s. None of them even stirred a little, completely exhausted from the past few days. I smiled as I slid off the bed, padding barefoot across the floor and down the stairs, wrapping my face into a low bun so that it would stay out of my face. The kitchen was glowing in the golden afternoon light, since it had been early morning when we returned h
