11.Dangerous Attraction

Ethan Greenwood

Rage consumed me when I saw that jerk approach the human; he looked at her as if she were his.

But she was my property.

After Mia left the room at the police station, I asked the police chief about the guy.

"Who is that guy who was talking to Mia?"

"Collin," the chief said. "One of the officers who work in the administrative department."

"I don't want him involved in anything about my son's kidnapping. And he shouldn't know about it, either. You're well-paid for this," I said seriously.

"Understood, sir."

I left the room boiling with anger.

It was easy to have the police in my hands. They worked a lot and earned little, which made greed grow excessively.

We needed to hide our secrets. The legends about supernatural creatures in Colorado were still told by the older elders, but even so, the current generation didn't believe them, as there had never been any evidence. But little did they know, we existed, not in the same numbers as before, but we were still a family. A pack.

There were always rival wolf families; rivalry was inevitable, whether you were human, vampire, or werewolf.

That's why I was afraid that one of them had harmed Lorenzo.

When I got outside, Mia was there, her eyes shining with anticipation.

"Did you find anything?" she asked, her voice full of expectation and fear.

I looked directly into her eyes, trying to read what was behind that expression, so full of emotion. "Be patient. I'm doing everything I can."

She seemed to crumble a little at hearing this, but quickly regained her composure, lifting her chin with a determination I didn't expect to see. It was as if, even in her fragility, she was forcing herself to be strong, to not let the situation defeat her.

I couldn't tell her about my true nature, about the world beyond her comprehension. Not yet. I didn't trust her enough, and there were too many risks. Her fragility was only superficial; there was something deeper, something that made me question everything I believed.

Maybe it was her humanity, something so different from my brutal reality.

But at the same time, I couldn't shake off the suspicion. What if she was a danger to me, to my pack? I couldn't let my emotions cloud my judgment. The safety of my family always came first.

"Let's go back," I said, breaking the tense silence between us. "There's nothing more we can do here now."

Mia nodded, and the sadness in her eyes was clear. But I couldn't let that weaken me. I needed to stay in control, not just for myself, but for everyone around me.

As we drove back, the silence between us was almost unbearable, full of unspoken questions and answers I couldn't give. My hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, and every time I looked at Mia, that same confusion welled up inside me.

She was human, fragile, and yet I couldn't get her out of my head. But until I was sure of who she really was and what her intentions were, I would keep my secret guarded, and she would remain under my protection, whether she liked it or not.

When we got back to the mansion, I parked the car and turned off the engine, but I didn't move immediately.

"Why did you come to me?" Her question hung in the air between us, laden with uncertainty.

I looked at her, raising my left eyebrow, trying to understand what she really wanted to know. "What are you talking about?"

Mia looked away for a moment, as if gathering the courage to continue. "That night at the bar... you're a man who clearly doesn't mingle with others, who doesn't do anything without a reason. So why did you take an interest in me?"

Her question hit me hard. She was right; I never did anything without a purpose. I was an Alpha, cold and calculating, someone who didn't get carried away by impulses or trivial desires. But that night, something about Mia had caught my attention, something I still couldn't fully explain.

"I don't know," I replied, my voice harsher than I intended. "There was something about you, something that intrigued me. And when I saw you sitting there at the bar, I knew I had to find out what it was."

She looked at me with a mixture of surprise and distrust. "That doesn't make sense. You don't even know me, Ethan."

"Maybe not," I admitted, keeping my eyes fixed on hers, trying to read her emotions. "And maybe that's exactly why I can't ignore you."

The silence fell between us again, but this time, it was charged with a different tension. There was something between us that couldn't be denied, something that went beyond rationality, something primal that I couldn't ignore, even if I wanted to.

She opened her mouth to say something, but I interrupted her, unable to contain myself. "Mia, I'm not a man who lets himself be swayed by feelings. I am who I am for a reason. And I do what's necessary, just that. Don't think you're special."

She seemed to absorb those words, and for a moment, I thought she would back down. But then, she surprised me once again, holding my gaze with a determination I didn't expect.

"I'm not a pawn in your game, Ethan. And I won't be controlled by you."

I smiled, a cold and calculated smile. "We'll see, Mia. We'll see."

"You treat everyone as if they were your subjects. And I don't know why they obey you."

"You don't know who I am yet, Mia."

"And I won't make a point of finding out."

She got out of the car, leaving me alone with my thoughts.

As I watched her walk back to the mansion, the confusion inside me only grew. Mia Miller was more than I expected, and that made her even more dangerous. But it also made her impossible to ignore.

Damn human.
