Mia Miller
I observe everything around me as I stand alone in that room. Some of the photos intrigue me; there were only a few, Ethan and an older woman, very beautiful, who looked a lot like him.
I look closer and am shocked by the resemblance between him and Lorenzo, when suddenly I'm startled by a voice calling my name.
"Miss Miller," the woman in a black-and-white uniform calmly calls out my name.
"Hello," I say timidly.
"My name is Mariah, I work in Mr. Greenwood's household. He asked me to take you to your room."
"My room?" I raise an eyebrow. "I'm not staying here. I was just waiting for him to come back so I could..."
"His orders," she cuts me off.
He wasn’t kidding. When I agreed to that madman's rules, I thought I could at least go back home. I didn’t want to stay here. Not at all.
I looked towards the exit of the mansion and noticed the two guards who looked like brutes. There was no way I could get out of here, and even if I could, it would be foolish to risk everything and lose my son.
He was the only one who could help me. He had everyone in his hand, even the Colorado police. Who this man could be, I didn’t know, but I did know that he scared me.
The serious woman led me to the room, and I remained silent. The hallway was enormous and filled with chandeliers. I wondered how he could have so much money; I never imagined that the man from the bar was a billionaire.
And even less that he was dangerous.
She stopped in front of a dark wooden door and said, "This is your room, Miss Mia."
"Thank you," I forced a smile. "Just Mia is fine."
"My Lord prefers that we treat guests with respect. Good night."
I widened my eyes in fear; she and everyone here spoke of him as if he were an authority.
The contrast between the welcoming environment and the coldness of the mansion made me uneasy. Everything seemed designed to remind me of the control Ethan had over every detail.
I left my bag on the bed and walked over to the window. The snow was gently falling outside, covering the landscape with a white blanket, almost as if it was trying to mask the harshness of the reality I was facing. Memories of my father flooded my mind. The void his absence left seemed to expand with every passing second. Lorenzo... Was he okay? Was he scared? The thought of my son trapped somewhere unknown tightened my chest.
Tears began to fall uncontrollably.
My body trembled with sadness and despair, and I felt more alone than ever. Everything seemed so out of reach, so impossible to fix. The grief of losing my father and the fear for Lorenzo’s fate tore me apart inside, leaving me breathless.
Suddenly, a sound interrupted my thoughts. A soft noise at the door made me quickly wipe away my tears. I turned and found Ethan standing there, his presence dominating the space.
His eyes scanned every detail of my face, as if trying to decipher my deepest thoughts.
He entered the room without asking for permission, of course, and then closed the door behind him. My heart raced as I realized how close he was to me.
Ethan took two steps forward, getting so close that I could feel his warm breath. My heart felt like it was going to jump out of my chest.
"Which part didn’t you understand?" he asked coldly, his eyes piercing mine. "I make the rules here."
Without breaking eye contact, he pulled an envelope from the inside pocket of his coat and handed it to me. I took the envelope, confused, feeling a chill down my spine. I opened it and found a contract inside. As I read it, my world crumbled.
The contract clearly stated that once he found Lorenzo, I would never be able to leave. The boy would be raised by Ethan, and if I wanted to leave, I would have to do so alone, without my son. It was a cruel sentence, a trap from which I couldn’t see any escape.
I felt shattered inside as I read those words. I looked up at Ethan, unable to believe the cruelty he was imposing on me. "Why are you doing this?" My voice came out shaky, almost a whisper.
He moved even closer, his mouth now just inches from mine. "This is the price you pay for lying to me, human," he said in a cold tone that sent shivers down my spine. "You think you can hide my own son from me and get away with it?"
His proximity, the warmth of his body, the intensity of his gaze... It all confused me. I wanted to hate him, wanted to push him away, but there was something visceral, something primitive, that made me hesitate. How could I feel any desire for a man so cruel, so ruthless?
He tilted his head slightly, as if he knew exactly what I was feeling, as if he had been waiting for that moment. His lips were dangerously close to mine, and I felt trapped between fear and an inexplicable attraction.
But deep down, I knew that giving in to any feelings for him would be a complete surrender to his control, and that I couldn’t allow. I needed to be strong, for myself and for Lorenzo. Even though, inside, I was falling apart.
I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t want to be at the mercy of a man I didn’t even know, and for my son to be raised by him... What kind of man would Lorenzo become?
There was something more. More than just someone dangerous, I felt a dark aura, something different in this house, in these people, in him.
And I was going to find out, no matter the cost.
His eyes glowed slightly yellow, but I thought it was just the contrast of the light.
"I accept this contract," I sighed. "Unlike you, I love my son, this isn’t a game. I’ll accept whatever you want."
"The first thing you need to do is watch how you speak to me," he observed.
I swallowed hard to control myself. I wanted to lash out at him, which would have been a stupid attempt, considering Ethan was almost 6'3".
I knew that from now on, I had nothing left to lose.
Mia MillerI slowly open my eyes, and as I look at the ceiling, I realize where I am—this isn't a nightmare. I was waking up in Ethan's house. Damn it.Immediately, my first thought of the day is about my son. How is my baby? It's impossible not to let the tears fall every time I think of Lorenzo. I just wanted to hold my baby and never let him go. Never again.I hear a knock on the door and look at the clock on my phone; it's eight in the morning. Who could be bothering me at this hour?I quickly get up and look at myself; I slept in the same clothes I was wearing, a super tight pair of jeans.I opened the door slowly, still rubbing my eyes, and there he was.His suit was perfectly aligned, his beard neatly trimmed, and his hair was styled—what did this man want?"Good morning," he said in a serious tone.I rolled my eyes. He was the last person I wanted to see. In fact, I hated him."Get ready. We're going to the police station."I widened my eyes. "Police st
Ethan GreenwoodRage consumed me when I saw that jerk approach the human; he looked at her as if she were his.But she was my property. After Mia left the room at the police station, I asked the police chief about the guy."Who is that guy who was talking to Mia?""Collin," the chief said. "One of the officers who work in the administrative department.""I don't want him involved in anything about my son's kidnapping. And he shouldn't know about it, either. You're well-paid for this," I said seriously."Understood, sir."I left the room boiling with anger. It was easy to have the police in my hands. They worked a lot and earned little, which made greed grow excessively. We needed to hide our secrets. The legends about supernatural creatures in Colorado were still told by the older elders, but even so, the current generation didn't believe them, as there had never been any evidence. Mia Miller.I wake up with a start, my body drenched in sweat, my heart pounding as if I had just run a marathon. Looking around, I realize I’m safe, but the feeling of dread doesn’t leave me. It was just a nightmare, but the fear and anxiety remain alive inside me.I dreamed of my son. Or rather, it wasn’t really a dream. It was a reflection of my worst fears, a painful reminder of everything that was at stake."My love, you’re going to be okay," I whisper, trying to convince myself as much as him. Lorenzo. My Lorenzo. The memory of the day he was born fills my mind, so sweet, so fragile. His tiny body fit in my hands like an extension of my own being. In the maternity ward, only my father was there, beaming with the idea of being a grandfather. He never judged me, he was just an incredible grandfather to Lorenzo, something I can never thank him enough for.Sometimes, I find myself wondering how different my life would be if I had looked for Ethan earlier. Maybe Lorenzo would be safe
Mia MillerThe silence in Ethan's mansion was heavy, almost suffocating. With him gone, the house felt like a labyrinth of secrets, and my desire to uncover what was really happening only grew stronger. As I walked through the hallways, my curiosity drove me to explore every corner, every door, hoping to find something that would reveal more about the mysterious man who now controlled every little part of my life.I looked around carefully, and there was no one here. How could he live in such silence? Didn’t he have any parents? Relatives? Then, as I turned around, I bumped into something."Dammit," I muttered as my arm collided with a door.It was a door at the end of a dark hallway, different from the others. The metal handle was worn, as if it had been used frequently, contrasting with the rest of the immaculate mansion.Something about that door called to me. Without thinking, my hand instinctively went to the handle. I tried to turn the knob, and to my surprise, the door gave way
Mia Miller I step off the bus with the small suitcase in my hands. I didn't tell anyone I was coming because I wanted to surprise my fiancé.It's been two months since I've seen the sky of this city. I missed the fresh air of Colorado so much.I clutch Collin's apartment keys and smile. He didn't know I was coming, and he was at work at this hour. I decided to wait for him here. I spent two weeks away, trying to find a job in the city. I had some interviews there, but I wasn't hired.I was turned down last time because I didn't have experience in the Italian language, and the job required it. Which made no sense to me.At the peak of my twenty-two years, I felt like a loser.I turn the key in the lock and open the door. Stepping into the living room, I find everything messy, typical of him.For the past nine months, we've been preparing for our wedding. 0, Even though I'm still unemployed, my almost-husband said it wasn't a problem for him.I love
Mia MillerI stepped through the bar door, my eyes frantically searching for Charlotte amidst the crowd. My hands trembled, and my heart pounded in my chest. There aren't enough words in the dictionary to describe everything I'm going through.I scanned with my eyes and finally spotted Charlotte in a corner of the bar.I fought against the tightness in my chest as I made my way through the bar's corridor, trying to focus on the flashing lights, which seemed to try to calm all the pain within me."Mia, are you okay?" She approached and hugged me."Charlotte…" My voice could barely sustain the pain engulfing me. "He… He was with her."I hadn't even sat down yet, and I began recounting every detail. My words escaped amidst sobs, anger and hurt overflowing with every syllable. Her embrace was a safe harbor at that moment. The weight of betrayal settled in my chest, turning each breath into an effort."Everything I believed to be solid has crumbled, Char. I trusted him so much…
two years later Mia Miller I opened the car window, feeling the cold wind tousling my messy hair. The cold weather always attracted me, but today it seemed to penetrate my skin, causing me shivers.I looked at Lorenzo, who was sleeping in the car seat, and I recalled that night. Two years had passed, and he was identical to the man with whom I lost my virginity in the parking lot of a bar.Discovering the pregnancy was a complete shock. That pregnancy test made me collapse on the floor like a child. I didn’t want this child. But the moment he was born,I saw his face. Collin's betrayal, and the desperation of not knowing how to manage, all disappeared.Only he mattered."Do you think this is going to work?" I asked, my voice trembling as I tried to keep my composure. You must be wondering how all this happened…And I even wonder for myself."The job there pays well," she replied, her determined look trying to convince me."What exactly do you do there?" I inquired,
