Brigid and Dr. Thompson were both examining the needle as I left the cabin. Alastor, Harriet, and I lingered over their shoulders for longer than we should have. Damian had already ushered Iris back home before anyone could even suggest it. No one wanted to force her to be a part of this. She had already gone through so much. There was nothing I could do to help figure out what had tainted my mate; I would only be in the way. Eventually, I had to begrudgingly leave it in their more than capable hands.Alastor and Harriet walked a few feet behind me as we made our way back to the packhouse. The rain had slowed to a light sprinkle. I walked in solitude, ignoring the low murmurs of the conversation that was going on behind me. I could have eavesdropped if I wanted to, but it wasn’t worth it right now. Their fear and pity would only make me feel worse. My insides felt like they were whirling away in a washing machine. A flood of emotions was fighting for control alonHi Readers! I just wanted to let you guys know I do my best to read all the comments in the book and respond to all the messages you guys send me. Rose“Delilah?”“Delilah?”“Delilah?” I was begging for her to let her presence be known.Instead of the beautiful cream wolf prancing around, there were thick, ominous dark shadows lingering in the corners of my mind, constantly shifting. Their movements were that of the static running across an old television screen. Just their presence wiped away my energy, leaving me exhausted.I tried to run away from them, but my feet weren’t going anywhere. I was running in circles, stuck in this mad world with no escape. The inky tendrils crept up from the ground, snaking around my ankles, anchoring me in place.Whispers hissed around me as more and more tendrils latched onto me. The whispers turned into a roar that radiated throughout my whole body. What were they saying? I couldn’t understand them, but something about their dialect felt familiar, like I had heard it before.I tried my best not to focus on the shadows; my head was throbbing.
Orion“Do you think Hodges would be capable of drugging and kidnapping Rose?”Gaea chewed on the inside of her cheek for a moment as she thought. She took a deep breath before almost whispering out her response, “Yes, I do.”“There you go, Harriet.” Alastor turned to his mate.“I...I...don’t believe it. Why would Hodges?” Harriet stared down at her coffee. Her hands trembled to cause ripples to splash around in her cup.“No one wants to believe someone they know could be capable of this.” I sighed, streaming my fingers through my hair with frustration. Now that Gaea confirmed he could have done this, my mind was set that it had to be him. Hodges would regret the day he set foot in my pack. I let this piece of shit in my pack. I literally welcomed him with open arms. How long had he been plotting this?“Alpha?” Gaea’s voice drew my attention back to the room.“Yes?” I glanced up at my mate’s mother.“Is there something I
RoseI wrapped my arm around Pru’s neck as she and Alaric helped me stand up. My legs felt like noddles and lead at the same time.“You okay?” Alaric asked with concern in his eyes.“Yeah, I’m good.” I offered a smile. I didn’t know if I was, though. I had never experienced a time in my life where I didn’t have Delilah’s strength to rely on. I would never take her for granted again...that is if I ever got out of here.“Once we are in the corridor, you have to act almost like a zombie.” Pru wrapped her arm around my waist to steady me. “Don’t make eye contact with anyone. Ignore anyone who speaks to you. It’s best that way.”“Okay.” I grimaced as I tested the strength of my legs. One small step after another, we slowly made our way to the door.“Ready?” Alaric asked.“Yeah, I wanna see Matt.” I nodded. Alaric rolled his shoulders back and threw his head side to side, cracking it.Alaric threw the door open with a bang. He was pl
Rose"How... how's Iris?" Matt nervously asked."She's good, considering everything that happened," I replied. I let my eyes drift to Pru, wondering what was going through her mind. Did she know about Matt and Iris? Did she know that they were best friends with a sprinkle of lingering romantic feelings?"Good...Hodges said you shaved her head for her….""Yeah…" I trailed off. I know Matt wanted to know about Iris, but part of me couldn't make Pru listen to that. "I have a question.""Shoot.""It's for Pru, not you.""Oh, my bad." Matt fell back onto his elbows on the dingy mattress."What's your question?" Pru's eyes lit up. She seemed to be excited about talking about anything that wasn't focusing on Iris."How did you know that Matt was your mate? Did you know before you met him?" I asked."I'm curious about that, too." Matt leaned over to rest his cheek against Pru's arm."It happened right after I was k
Rose “There she is!” Kroll’s voice cut through the air like a dagger, each syllable stung. Kroll was perched in an oversized wooden chair, a demented king on his throne with Greta standing beside him. A cruel smirk was plastered on her face.“She’s here; what do you want?” Alaric dryly motioned towards me.“You can leave, little boy.” Greta giggled maniacally at Alaric. The flustered woman from the hall had dissipated into the night. Hiding in Kroll’s shadow seemed to empower her.“I’m sorry, Kroll, did you hear that buzzing? I think a bug somehow got in here.” Alaric swatted at the air. Kroll rolled his eyes at his nephew.“Shut up, both of you! I didn’t tell you to bring the blessed wolf here just for me to be forced to watch a childish fight.” Kroll growled towards Alaric and Greta. Silence fell over the room.Pru shifted her weight from foot to foot beside me; nervous energy glimmered around her. I tried
Orion“You all know your Luna was kidnapped. Damian has located where she is being held captive. I know that we have settled into a peaceful existence since I expelled my father’s remaining supporters. It is time for us to show the world that we have not forgotten our roots. We may be more compassionate, but that does dissolve our strength.” My voice rang out in the clearing. In this clearing, we accepted Silver Crescent into our pack; in this clearing, my pack accepted my mate; in this clearing, Rose took her place beside me as my Luna...Men and women of varying ages stood before me. Anger and fear swam amongst the crowd. Their desire to get their Luna back was nearly as strong as mine.“Let’s get our Luna back!” Iris screamed at the top of her lungs. Her energy fed the other pack members.“For the Luna!” Pack members screeched.Pack warriors began to shift, not caring about their clothes. The sounds of fabric ripping, bones cracking, and
PruWhat was she doing? I told her to keep her head down, not challenge Kroll. Did she have a death wish?Alaric’s fingers were tightly wrapped around my wrist as he hauled me out of the cabin. Twigs snapped underneath our feet as we tore through the trees, ignoring the branches and undergrowth that grabbed at our clothing.“What about, Rose?” I wheezed out. Alaric was dragging me behind him. I couldn’t keep up with his pace; I was slowing him down. My body wasn’t built like a werewolf. I had a fragile human body. I was never one to care about fitness. I regretted that now.“We can’t do anything for her right now.” Alaric quietly mumbled under his breath.“What do you mean?” I stopped attempting to keep up with his blistering pace. “We just can’t leave her.”“If we go back there right now, we are throwing away everything we have worked for these past months. Is that what you want?” Alaric tugged at my wrist, but he couldn’t look at me. He kn
HarrietCrimson flames ran wild, snaking their way through the underbrush and engulfing the forest around me. Violence was bursting behind every tree and rock. Gnashing of teeth and swiping of paws was everywhere. At any moment, you could be attacked. It was kill or be killed; no one was safe. It was a sinister sight, to say the least. Iris and Damian were a hundred feet away. Both of them were in fine form underneath the moonlight.Damian was almost glued to his sister’s side. After she was taken, something changed inside of him. He never gave off the protective brother vibe before but now touch his sister, and you had to die.Iris seemed to be channeling every emotion that had been haunting her in the fight. She was taking every drop of pain, misery, fear, and resentment out on any wolf that crossed her path. She wanted to make them feel everything that Kroll caused her to go through. None of them would come out of this unscathed.Alastor was ju
