Callista.

That's when I realized I have yet to tell Theon about my ring.

"It's a gift from the witches," I say with an apologetic wince. "Specifically, the Headmistress. Thought it was on loan first, but she insisted that I keep it.”

"So, what exactly can it do? Conjure a very handy shield?" he asks, giving it an admiring glance. "Because of that one back there? Probably saved both of us from some serious pain.”

I squirm in my seat trying to find a good explanation for the ring, because there is much more it could do than being a shield conjurer. I know that I should have told Theon earlier, and I was meaning to. But I was too afraid that someone might eavesdrop on our conversation and try to steal the ring or something. It wasn't really a rational fear, but I am oddly attached to the ring.

So much so that where it's concerned, the very thought of not seeing it for a moment gives me anxiety.

"Not exactly," I say.

"What do you mean?"

"Well, I found it in the Headmistress's crystal an

Theon. As soon as I see the partially collapsed tower, I call for Callista. Then we run to the castle.A hundred thoughts pass in my brain because the west tower is where Elias is housed in. Letting myself think of what might’ve happened makes my heart race, and I try to remain as calm as possible, because no matter what, I can’t afford to let my people see me losing it. Especially at a time like this.As we near the castle, the commotion starts to get thicker.Has anyone died? Has the rubble from the collapsed part of the tower hurt someone? Or hurt more than one person? Elias can’t die like this. I hope to the Goddess that he's safe. I pray that the guards manage to get him out in time before his room gives out because it's the topmost part of the tower that has sustained the most damage. The rest of the castle appears to be stable and standing with only a few houses and buildings in the town are damaged, but as I note while running, it's not as serious as it had been back in the hu

Callista. There is no time to wait and rest. We have work to do. Theon immediately goes to work, getting an itinerary of the damages suffered by the Rexellen pack town and the castle, and directs the castle staff to aid in repairs to the power grid.In no time, the Rexellen pack regains electricity. After that, the castle staff goes to work, cleaning up all the damaged items in the residence, and the guards assist in securing the damaged area of the tower.Theon and Kellin go to the town to survey the damage, and because of my stealer scent, I can't join them."Go to bed, Callista," Theon tells me before he leaves, "It's late now, and there's no point in wasting time panicking over a natural disaster.""It wasn't natural," I insist. “The earthquake, that is, there was something off about it.”"Yes, I believe you. But we don't know if another will come. And if we do get another, it's better to get some rest before any other disaster strikes," Theon replies, giving me a kiss on the for

CallistaElias moves to a room in the eastern wing, in the least used hallway of the place. Apparently, he’d protested the decision at first, saying that it wouldn't be safe for the residents of the castle if he is kept that closer to them.To us.He wanted to be stashed in a tower, or if that's not possible, the dungeons."Hell, no!" Theon had yelled. We'd been in his office; him, me, and Elias. I was there to make sure that Theon went straight to his room after the discussion so he could get some sleep. I noticed that he had a bad habit of running himself to the bone, and I couldn't let him do that.As his mate and girlfriend, it was my duty to make sure he didn't do anything stupid like neglect his health. "Why not? As the Alpha, you should always put the safety of your pack before a single wolf," Elias argued. "Well, why can't I do that while making sure you're comfortable?""Theon, you have families staying in the east wing," Elias replied, sounding tired."I'm aware, Elias, I

Callista"Valencia!”I utter as I scramble to my feet.Valencia stands next to me, dressed in a camo jacket along with her usual black gear. Her hair is tied into a high ponytail, and her face is ever impassive. She holds the bottle of water in her hands awkwardly, the same one she offered to me moments ago. I honestly didn't think I would see her today. Yesterday, I haven't seen her, and she hadn't even approached us after the earthquake disaster. Theon supposed that she was still mad at both of us, and I had been a little disappointed that she couldn't keep her annoyance aside to at least check if her best friend was alive. "Hi, Callista," she says, her tone low.We stare at one another, and finally, she offers the bottle again. "I got this for you from a maid. Please have some, you look like you’ve walked through a desert in the middle of the summer although it’s basically winter now."I glance at the bottle. I do feel like I’ve trekked through a desert, with my throat paper dry,

Callista"No!" I reply immediately in a hard tone. "What the actual hell, Valencia, no, I will not do that."Valencia looks at me as if I just upturned her whole worldview."But...but..." She sputters, but I cut her off."Are you insane? I can't do that!" I exclaim, "In case you've forgotten, I'm the stealer. I can't just prance into Elias's room with my scent. It literally drives him maniacal, and the last thing I want to do is make him turn.""I'm not asking you to accompany me inside," Valencia protests. "I just want you to show me where he is.""I'm sorry, but no. If you want to do it so much, please ask Theon." I shake my head. "Goddess, Valencia, if anything goes wrong, it will be my fault. It took me ages to get into the pack's good graces. I'm afraid that if something bad happens because of my mistakes, people would turn their back on me and revert to their earlier thoughts about me!"Valencia nods, although it is reluctant. "I understand your concern," she says. "I'm sorry if

CallistaAfter I take a shower and get dressed in some comfortable evening clothes, I leave my room for Theon's and knock on his door. "Wait just a minute!" A small voice comes from the other side of the door, followed by noises of someone running around. “Oh, okay,” wandering what he’s doing, I lean on the wall by the door until he’s ready. The door finally opens, and Theon emerges with an enthusiastic, “Hey!”"Hi," I greet him, a smile playing on my lips. He’s quite red and out of breath."Well, please come on in," he moves over from the door and gestures into his room with a swoop of his hand.Giving him a weird look, and I walk into the room and gasp. His whole bedroom is lit up with candles. A soft orange glow basks the entire room with serenity as candles of all shapes and sizes burn with low lights. On the floors, there is a path formed by two lines of candles leading to Theon's spacious balcony, where a table is laid out for two on a pleasantly embroidered white tablecloth.

CallistaMy breath hitches at those words and a thousand butterflies unleash in my stomach. Uncertainty battles with hope and anticipation. I open my mouth to reply, but I find that suddenly words have escaped me. Theon was wrong when he said that I’m the surprising one. The truth is, he surprises me every time."Callista," Theon asks, concerned. "Is something wrong?" That's when I realize I am not breathing.I close my mouth and breathe through my nose, soothing my burning lungs, and calming myself down in the process."Nothing. Just that I did not expect you to say that today." I reply in a dreamy, breathy tone. "You...you want to mate with me?""Yes, I do. If you accept it of course." "So suddenly? Like...today?!" My frantic mind starts to overreact upon being bombarded with this unexpected news.Did he want us to mate right now? Was that why he organized the date in the first place? To ask me to mate with him? I mean, physically I was more than ready but mentally. I mean, I do

Callista The next morning, I wake up snuggling Theon, feeling happier than ever. The morning sun rays stream into the room, paler now as the fall keeps fading. In about three weeks, winter will be upon us. Distantly, I wonder if it will snow. Back in the Leighwen pack, it snowed in winter. The Rexellen pack isn't that far away, so I guess the same climate applies here as well. We are both clothed because we didn't do anything last night. After cleaning up the dishes from dinner, we just cuddle more in bed, talking about anything and everything. Then Theon cleans all the candles out from last night, and we watch some new human movie on his laptop. Halfway through the movie, we get distracted by the glorious purpose of kissing. It’s one of the best make-up sessions I’ve had in forever. Naturally, it escalated to something naughty, where Theon showed me what exactly his fingers can do. By the end of it, my voice is hoarse from the screams, my body shivering from the orgasms, my pulse r

Haden"Oh wow," as we stumble into a large hall at the tunnel's end, I utter."Are all of these...tombs?" Terrel whispers, his eyes flitting from one to another."These are indeed the tombs of the Rexellen family. Every member of our bloodline since founding this castle, except for our parents and my mate, are buried here," Elias says, passing in between us. He steps near one of the cubicles which are closed by a thick, stone slab. "If my memory is correct, this belongs to the first Alpha King of our bloodline."It’s easy to forget at times that Elias is a prince, a member of the Rexellen family who once refused the great power that came with it. He is so humble, and so down to earth that Elias never seemed to be apart from us, even when we were children. Theon always kept the air of royalty around him, even when he insisted that we treat him as an equal. But Elias? When he abdicated, he completely gave up trying to be royal in any way.But then he would speak of his bloodline, and we

CallistaTheon and I are locked in the same cell this time, which is somewhat of a relief. A very small comfort in reality, but a big deal because after what Farris did, at least I can take care of him when he’s close. It’s infinitely better than being away from him and worrying about his fate.My hands have already healed, and only a strip of pink was remaining on both my palms. Soon they will disappear as well, rendering my skin porcelain once again. But I don't think the scar in my heart will ever heal. After Farris lapped at the blood that sprouted out from Theon's neck, he'd stopped moving. I felt the pain of his power leaving him, it was like a knife to my heart. As soon as the blood touched Farris's tongue, his eyes had gleamed amber, signifying that now he had the power of the Alpha King.I had screamed for my mate until my throat bled from the effort. They threw us both in the cell afterward, and I'd lunged at Theon before his head hit the stone floor, catching his body. It

Haden"This way," Elias leads us down the stairs that slope into the basement of the castle in the west wing. This particular basement exists under the common bathrooms relegated to the castle staff, and it smells of mold, dampness, and various other odors related to a secluded, dark, underground place. We are careful not to slip on the mold and fungi that dominate the staircase. One flashlight brightens our way, and I have to spend some effort to keep myself from gagging because of the stench."Oh, Goddess," Terrel groans. "I think I just saw something move!" "Probably a rat," Alan replies. "I stepped on something gelatinous before. I don't even want to know what it is.""We really need to get the staff to clean these places," Kellin says. "And we should check them once in a while as well.""You should," Elias chimes in. "I don't think anyone has been down here since Grandpa closed the entrances to the catacombs.""Why did he do that anyway? Why did he close them?" I ask him, wanti

CallistaI wanted to kill Farris. I had no qualms about it. He was going to take Theon's power. The only way to stop him from sinking his fangs into my mate's neck was to end him once and for all.But in my haste to do it, I forgot that there was someone else in the room other than the guards, Farris, Theon, and I.For a second, I am sure that I'm going to make it. I'm sure that I'm going to triumph. But then, out of nowhere, someone throws a chair at me.The force of the object throws me off balance. I stumble out of my trajectory. The back of the chair connects with my ribcage, and I feel such an immense pain that makes me yelp. The knife falls from my grip clattering onto the floor, right after I do.My head connects with the stone floor of the room in the tower, and I see stars from the impact.Without wasting a second, Valencia lunges on top of me with her wicked sword unsheathed and holds it at my neck."I don't think so, Callista," She hissed through gritted teeth. HadenAll three guards fall into a pile of werewolves, with multicolored darts piercing their necks. The Wolfsbane in them works fast, and in no time, they are knocked off. Terrel and Kellin appear from behind them. They'd hidden on the other side of the hallway, and while I acted as the distraction, they'd taken the first shots to bring down two guards. I finished the other one by myself"Holy crap," the adrenaline flowing inside of me makes my speech sound breathy. "I can't believe that worked.""Good job!" Alan crows in my ear. "But you don't have enough time. Hide them quickly.""Yes, sir," we mutter, and each takes one unconscious guard by the shoulders. We drag them to the intersection and dump their bodies in a place that isn't seen by CCTV cameras. Alan calls it a blind spot. "Done," I tell Alan as we rush back to Elias’ room. "How long do we have?" "Roughly ten minutes before someone comes to see what's up with those guards, so hurry," Alan nags. Kellin produces a key fro

But the anger and hurt I feel triumph over the painTheon squirms as the cuffs burn into his skin. The sizzling scent of meat cooking brings bile to my throat. He's sweating all over, and his teeth are gritted so hard that I am afraid they might break. My Theon is in so much pain, all because of that bitch Valencia who stands next to him, and Farris Leighwen who I am starting to hate with all of my being."Oh, it's not so bad," Farris brushes me off, sparing a lazy glance at Theon. "He'll live to see another day. Don't worry.""Do you even hear yourself? You overdosed him with the drug. How much Wolfsbane was in that dart?" I pull against the guards restraining me. "Are you fucking insane?" "Apathetic would be more apt to describe me. Some might even say ambitious." Farris says, sitting down on a chair facing me."Callista..

Haden"There are three guards patrolling the hallway that contain Elias's room in the western wing," Alan says as we crouch in a small broom closet. There is a tablet on his lap, and he's connected to the camera feed in his security room via it. As of now, the hostiles have taken over the entire eastern wing. Before they could continue to the western wing, our own guards closed off the entire section using the large metal gates that have been installed in the castle since its inception for this exact reason. Our forefathers had the foresight to anticipate traitors in the unlikeliest of positions and them knowing the structure of the castle. So, they'd installed the gates. There were two main entryways that connected the east and west wings, and as soon as this happened, we managed to close the gates. There were some people trapped on the other side, but so far, they have been safe. We don't think the hostiles will hurt them in any way, because they got Theon and Callista already. To

TheonHave you ever been in one of those dreams where you think you're looking at something, but your eyelids are too heavy to keep open? Those dreams where you know the limitations and powers that you processed, but you couldn't command your body to use them? Those dreams where you feel like there's something dreadful watching you and you have to escape, but you can't. You're tethered to something, something dark and heavy that you simply cannot break out from...That's how it feels to be drugged by Wolfsbane. My body is slightly different from the other wolves due to my being the Alpha King. The public knows that once you’re born into the royal bloodline, there would be physiological differences, but it’s not public knowledge how much I’m different from them. I have powers that no one possesses, such as the ability to smell other wolves who were not my mate, the ability to run faster than anyone and call my wolf strength when I am in human form, and many more. One of those powers i

She scuttles out of the crowd of people she's sitting with and runs towards me.When we collide, it feels like everything is at least mildly right in the world. Half of the worry and weight on my shoulders vanish as I breathe in her scent. There was a time when I thought that I would never have something like this for myself. That I was meant to be alone, that my mate was somewhere far away from me or already dead. But then Bailey came into my life. The past few days in my life were the happiest ever thanks to her. We'd been planning to be mated soon, as soon as Theon and Callista finished theirs because we just couldn't wait anymore. We'd been waiting for each other for the longest time, and we wanted the bliss of matehood now.But with whatever the hell is going on now, it won't be possible.
