Callista.

"Yeah?" Theon prompts me. "Callista? Are you okay? You're staring at your drink…"

The tremors don't stop. They're uniform and consistent. A feeling of dread crawls up my spine just as the ring on my finger hums.

"Look at your drink," I tell him. "Doesn't that seem strange to you?"

Theon squints at me, and opens his mouth to speak just as he looks down at his drink.

His eyebrows hike up his scalp, and the next thing I know, he’s springing out of his chair, making it topple behind him, catching the surprised attention of all the guests on the dining floor.

"The ground is tremoring," he says, and then yells in a much higher voice. "Get the hell out of the building, there's an earthquake coming!"

Just as he screams, a sudden jolt propels through the floor, and the restaurant descends into chaos. I hold on to the table to keep my balance as the floor moves beneath me, shuddering, making tremors run up my body. The lights start to flicker, and then electricity sparks fly out of th

Callista. That's when I realized I have yet to tell Theon about my ring. "It's a gift from the witches," I say with an apologetic wince. "Specifically, the Headmistress. Thought it was on loan first, but she insisted that I keep it.”"So, what exactly can it do? Conjure a very handy shield?" he asks, giving it an admiring glance. "Because of that one back there? Probably saved both of us from some serious pain.”I squirm in my seat trying to find a good explanation for the ring, because there is much more it could do than being a shield conjurer. I know that I should have told Theon earlier, and I was meaning to. But I was too afraid that someone might eavesdrop on our conversation and try to steal the ring or something. It wasn't really a rational fear, but I am oddly attached to the ring. So much so that where it's concerned, the very thought of not seeing it for a moment gives me anxiety."Not exactly," I say."What do you mean?""Well, I found it in the Headmistress's crystal an

Theon. As soon as I see the partially collapsed tower, I call for Callista. Then we run to the castle.A hundred thoughts pass in my brain because the west tower is where Elias is housed in. Letting myself think of what might’ve happened makes my heart race, and I try to remain as calm as possible, because no matter what, I can’t afford to let my people see me losing it. Especially at a time like this.As we near the castle, the commotion starts to get thicker.Has anyone died? Has the rubble from the collapsed part of the tower hurt someone? Or hurt more than one person? Elias can’t die like this. I hope to the Goddess that he's safe. I pray that the guards manage to get him out in time before his room gives out because it's the topmost part of the tower that has sustained the most damage. The rest of the castle appears to be stable and standing with only a few houses and buildings in the town are damaged, but as I note while running, it's not as serious as it had been back in the hu

Callista. There is no time to wait and rest. We have work to do. Theon immediately goes to work, getting an itinerary of the damages suffered by the Rexellen pack town and the castle, and directs the castle staff to aid in repairs to the power grid.In no time, the Rexellen pack regains electricity. After that, the castle staff goes to work, cleaning up all the damaged items in the residence, and the guards assist in securing the damaged area of the tower.Theon and Kellin go to the town to survey the damage, and because of my stealer scent, I can't join them."Go to bed, Callista," Theon tells me before he leaves, "It's late now, and there's no point in wasting time panicking over a natural disaster.""It wasn't natural," I insist. “The earthquake, that is, there was something off about it.”"Yes, I believe you. But we don't know if another will come. And if we do get another, it's better to get some rest before any other disaster strikes," Theon replies, giving me a kiss on the for

CallistaElias moves to a room in the eastern wing, in the least used hallway of the place. Apparently, he’d protested the decision at first, saying that it wouldn't be safe for the residents of the castle if he is kept that closer to them.To us.He wanted to be stashed in a tower, or if that's not possible, the dungeons."Hell, no!" Theon had yelled. We'd been in his office; him, me, and Elias. I was there to make sure that Theon went straight to his room after the discussion so he could get some sleep. I noticed that he had a bad habit of running himself to the bone, and I couldn't let him do that.As his mate and girlfriend, it was my duty to make sure he didn't do anything stupid like neglect his health. "Why not? As the Alpha, you should always put the safety of your pack before a single wolf," Elias argued. "Well, why can't I do that while making sure you're comfortable?""Theon, you have families staying in the east wing," Elias replied, sounding tired."I'm aware, Elias, I

Callista"Valencia!”I utter as I scramble to my feet.Valencia stands next to me, dressed in a camo jacket along with her usual black gear. Her hair is tied into a high ponytail, and her face is ever impassive. She holds the bottle of water in her hands awkwardly, the same one she offered to me moments ago. I honestly didn't think I would see her today. Yesterday, I haven't seen her, and she hadn't even approached us after the earthquake disaster. Theon supposed that she was still mad at both of us, and I had been a little disappointed that she couldn't keep her annoyance aside to at least check if her best friend was alive. "Hi, Callista," she says, her tone low.We stare at one another, and finally, she offers the bottle again. "I got this for you from a maid. Please have some, you look like you’ve walked through a desert in the middle of the summer although it’s basically winter now."I glance at the bottle. I do feel like I’ve trekked through a desert, with my throat paper dry,

Callista"No!" I reply immediately in a hard tone. "What the actual hell, Valencia, no, I will not do that."Valencia looks at me as if I just upturned her whole worldview."But...but..." She sputters, but I cut her off."Are you insane? I can't do that!" I exclaim, "In case you've forgotten, I'm the stealer. I can't just prance into Elias's room with my scent. It literally drives him maniacal, and the last thing I want to do is make him turn.""I'm not asking you to accompany me inside," Valencia protests. "I just want you to show me where he is.""I'm sorry, but no. If you want to do it so much, please ask Theon." I shake my head. "Goddess, Valencia, if anything goes wrong, it will be my fault. It took me ages to get into the pack's good graces. I'm afraid that if something bad happens because of my mistakes, people would turn their back on me and revert to their earlier thoughts about me!"Valencia nods, although it is reluctant. "I understand your concern," she says. "I'm sorry if

CallistaAfter I take a shower and get dressed in some comfortable evening clothes, I leave my room for Theon's and knock on his door. "Wait just a minute!" A small voice comes from the other side of the door, followed by noises of someone running around. “Oh, okay,” wandering what he’s doing, I lean on the wall by the door until he’s ready. The door finally opens, and Theon emerges with an enthusiastic, “Hey!”"Hi," I greet him, a smile playing on my lips. He’s quite red and out of breath."Well, please come on in," he moves over from the door and gestures into his room with a swoop of his hand.Giving him a weird look, and I walk into the room and gasp. His whole bedroom is lit up with candles. A soft orange glow basks the entire room with serenity as candles of all shapes and sizes burn with low lights. On the floors, there is a path formed by two lines of candles leading to Theon's spacious balcony, where a table is laid out for two on a pleasantly embroidered white tablecloth.

I open my mouth to reply, but I find that suddenly words have escaped me. Theon was wrong when he said that I’m the surprising one. The truth is, he surprises me every time."Callista," Theon asks, concerned. "Is something wrong?" That's when I realize I am not breathing.I close my mouth and breathe through my nose, soothing my burning lungs, and calming myself down in the process."Nothing. Just that I did not expect you to say that today." I reply in a dreamy, breathy tone. "You...you want to mate with me?""Yes, I do. If you accept it of course." "So suddenly? Like...today?!" My frantic mind starts to overreact upon being bombarded with this unexpected news.Did he want us to mate right now? Was that why he organized the date in the first place? To ask me to mate with him? CallistaTheon leaves the Galdine pack lands soon afterward.According to him, the team sent by the Supernatural Council promised to check the bodies for signs of magic as soon as possible. They will have to transfer the bodies to the Witches Guild, where the final autopsy will be carried out and hopefully, the answers we sorely desire will come to light. "They gave us a warning to be careful," Theon says through a video call. "Because we touched the bodies. They decontaminated us as much as possible, but you can never be too careful. If we see anything unusual on our bodies, we have to isolate ourselves and call them immediately. You guys need to prepare a portion of the castle for this. Hopefully, nothing will happen but better be prepared.”“Understood,” Kellin replies with forced mirth. “A quarantine zone for four werewolves, coming right up.”“Thanks, Kellin. They checked us over for any signs of contagiousness but we're clean so far.""I'm going to have nightmares about that fo

CallistaWe wait eagerly in the castle until we get an update from Theon. Tension thrums within us as the screens of Theon’s office remain empty of a call or even a text telling us how his meeting with the Galdine pack Alpha, Warren Galdine goes.Seconds tick into minutes, and then hours, but we don’t get anything.“It’s been three hours now,” I tell Kellin, feeling worried about the lack of communication. “Do you think they are alright? I don’t have a good feeling about this.”“I hope so, although I must agree that this whole incident is entirely unsettling,” Kellin mutters, sounding concerned. “Warren is not stupid enough to try and retaliate against the Alpha King, but as I said before, parents do crazy things when it comes to their children. Warren had placed Valencia above everything since the start, and while that is admirable as a father, as an Alpha, it only enabled her further to descend into her madness. He even gave her a position of power, for Goddess’ sake.”“I feel like

ValenciaI run down the hill in my wolf form, days after I escaped the Rexellen pack. The night is bright with the crescent Rexellen, free from the disastrous light pollution that plagues human cities. I've been hiding in them for the last few days, and I can now confidently say I hate human civilizations. The long grass beneath my feet brushes my legs and belly as I run, and the cold of the Fall night is soothing. It helps me calm my mind more, and I desperately need the concentration to do what I have to do next. But as I run, thoughts plague my mind.I had been a fool before, I didn't plan my escape fully. Why? Because I thought there wasn't a need for one. My plan was perfect. Drug the two guards near the door. That was easy. All I had to do was dress in a maid uniform, put on a wig, and bring them coffee. They'd drunk it gratefully as it was early in the morning. The Wolfsbane had worked immediately, knocking them both out. I'd dragged them to the south tower and stashed them

TheonWe left for the Galdine pack that night as soon as we finished arming the Rexellen pack against Valencia. We suspect that she's working with a witch, so we consider as a threat accordingly. Kellin stays behind to watch over the pack in my absence as per his Beta duties. Haden accompanies me with Alan and Terrel, a guard. The ride to the Rexellen pack is like a true-crime podcast."She somehow hacked into the CCTV cameras," says Alan. "The only thing I saw was the two guards, John and Gabe, just sitting near the door like usual. All throughout the incident that was what played on the screen."I groan. Of course, she did."Her major was computer science in college," I tell them. "No wonder she hacked the CCTV.""In that case, I need to completely revamp the security," Alan replies with a sigh. Terrel drives, silent as ever. Haden sits next to him in the front passenger seat. The night is pitch dark and starless. We'd passed a human city already. The Galdine pack is farther than t

CallistaI don't understand this, and by the looks of it, neither do my fellow wolves. "What?" Theon demands. "I never told her such a thing!""I'm telling you the truth, Your Majesty, I swear on the Goddess," Warren replies, his face the epitome of earnestness. "Falcon died three months before the news of your mate’s unfortunate demise came by the pack, and as soon as she heard it, Valencia came to me. She asked me permission to allow her to head a diplomatic delegation to the Rexellen pack. I was skeptical, but she was stable then, and her psychiatrist had given her the green light. She told me that she didn't love you anymore and that she only wanted to visit her oldest friend and possibly mend the broken bridges. So, I gave her my permission." Callista I rush down the hallway to the entrance of the castle, where Theon stands with a group of guards, shirtless, looking dejected and frustrated. His expression stays stoic as he speaks with Kellin in a tight, measured tone, as if he’s trying his best to hold back his feelings."I need to call the Galdine pack immediately," I hear him say as I get closer, a growl in his voice. Well, that means he’s not suppressing his feelings well. He must be really angry. "I must talk with the Alpha and ask him what the hell his daughter is doing.”"Chances are that the Alpha knows nothing about this," Kellin replies, tone bitter. "But if he does, he won't tell you anything. He will try to protect his daughter just like last time.""I don’t give a shit! I’m going to get answers one way or the other," Theon snaps. "I’m the Alpha King and his former Gamma is a threat to my pack, and he is going to have to provide me some answers if he wants to see her alive again. If he refuses, that would be tr

Callista I've never felt murderous. No, that's wrong. I have felt murderous before. But not to this degree. And I didn't know why I felt so strongly about this. It's not like I haven't been wronged in my life before, because I have been. My parents, my sister, my former Alpha, my current Alpha...all of them had hurt me at some point in my very short life of eighteen years, yet I've never felt the need to utterly destroy them as I did for Valencia. The anger I feel surprises me, and I try to find a reason for it. Perhaps it's because the others I've mentioned before had only wanted to hurt me. Only me, not others. But Valencia didn't just want to kill me. She was ready to sacrifice any amount of people to have me.Not even Ruelle did that. The guards who Valencia had drugged were still in the ICU of the hospital, where the doctors were monitoring them constantly. Wolfsbane overdose was lethal most of the time, and even when a wolf came out of it, it wasn't guaranteed that he would

Callista I sit in my room, feeling oddly shivery. I've never really felt like this before, not even in my first days as a stealer in the Rexellen pack. It feels as if my insides are tingling, and my stomach is upset. I feel cold, although my room is heated. My mind flits from Theon to Elias to Valencia, playing all the scenes of the day in my head.I can't focus. Thoughts flash in my mind at the speed of light. Is Theon okay? What of Elias? Did he turn even after I was taken from the room? Did Theon find Valencia? Did Valencia escape the Rexellen pack lands? Did she hurt Theon? Did Theon hurt her? Did she lie to him again? I feel some sort of movement next to me, and I flinch. My hands automatically go to the arms of the chair that I am sitting on. "Woah," Haden’s voice comes, and I notice that it is indeed him. He holds a cup of tea in his hand, and his expression is sorrowful. "It's just me, Callista. I'm sorry if I startled you.""It's okay," I let out a breath. "It's my fault.

Theon"Who?!" I scream. I didn’t realize anything was wrong until my wolf reared his head, making his presence known after days of peace in my head. I’d been in my room, getting ready to head over to town, because I was scheduled to check the renovations of the earthquake.Suddenly, panic rushed through my being, and I couldn’t move. "Mate!" My wolf had yelled, pacing frantically in my head, trying to gain control. "What? What's wrong?" I'd asked him, shocked. What was happening to Callista? Had someone tried to feed her glass again? "Mate's in danger!" my wolf howled. "She's hurt! Find her! Help her!"My blood had run cold.“Where?”My instincts had me running down the hall in no time. I shouted Callista’s name multiple times, looking everywhere I could for her. Everyone in the castle stopped their business to gawk at me, immediately catching onto my panic. "Where's Callista?" I'd clutched a startled butler from his shoulders, shaking him like a madman. My dread increased by the
