Don't go into the sun

Rest was never needed, Ray admitted he could go to his dark hole to close his eyes, but it was not sleep, maybe just rest. He picked up the ring of Sol and placed it on his finger, the other ring he had was the ring of Luna, one to be given to a werewolf so the moon goddess has no power over it, why on earth would Victor give him that one?

He pocketed the Luna ring and left his room, the sun was high now, so naturally all the curtains were closed, but Ray halted at a small line of sun that made it's way through at a window.

He slowly approached it, he has touched the sun before and it was the most horrible feeling ever, not just burning the skin but boiling him from the inside out.

Lucky his mother saved him, but that made him learn his lesson, stay out of the sun.

He looked at the ring of Sol, it was supposed to allow a vampire to tread in sunlight, Ray never believed in such superstitions.

The tiny light got doused by a servant who came by closed the curtains fast "I'm sorry my Lord! We didn't close them properly!"

"No it's fine, I stood in awe over the rays... Wait, Annette?" He recognized her.

"Yes my lord, did you have a good night?" She asked knowing vampires don't really sleep.

"I did, thank you" he kindly said making her blush "Something wrong?"

"You are kind young lord"

"And my father is not?"

"He is as well, but you, superseed him I'm afraid"

Ray laughed loudly "Please join me" he asked walking.

"I want to ask you some things Annette, if you don't mind?"

"Of course!"

His blue eyes came down to her "How did a human end up serving vampires?"

"It's an embarrassing tale my lord"

"You don't have to tell me then, but tell me this, are you disappointed? Or do you have regret?"

"Not at all my lord!"

"Don't say it because you think I might get angry at you, have you ever considered going back to the land of the living?"

She shook her head smiling "My lord, my embarrassing tale is the reason I'm here, if it wasn't for your father, I'd probably be dead now"

"He saved you?"

"Yes... From abuse, but not the violent kind, substance"

"You can abuse a substance?" He asked thinking of his first taste of wolf blood.

"It would have caused me to die, I was an addict, he drank me dry and replaced my blood, therefore I managed to survive the overdose"

Ray smiled "My father's hey? That old fart?"

Annette giggled "Yes"

"Please tell me more about the human world?"

She scratched her cheek "What would you like to know?"

"Is it true that to technology thrives there?"

"Yes, we have cars, computers, cellphones, all sorts of neat things"

"What are cellphones?"

"It's a means to communicate over long distance, almost like a messenger pigeon"

"I used to suck our messanger pigeons dry" Ray said making her laugh.

"Those poor things!"

"Can you suck a cellphone dry?"

"No!" She laughed hysterically.

"What about a car?"

"No!" She stopped, Annette couldn't hold herself and placed her hands on her knees.

Ray enjoyed making her laugh "So? In terms of education? How do humans educate yourselves?"

"Schools, but you should know that right?" She asked wiping her tears.

"Well I know the term 'school' but we as vampires learn through studying books in our library"

"Ok, we have pre and primary schools, then highschool" She looked at him "At your age you would have attended such a highschool"

Ray gave it thought, then looked at the ring in his finger "I would like to see a highschool"

"Your father said you're free to do what you want right?"

"He did"

"But... The sun my lord?"

"Come with me Annette" He said speeding up.

He came to a hallway that also had curtains, he stopped "Please draw one open so just a small amount of light filters in"

She frowned and passed him, then took the curtains lightly and allowed just a small streak to enter.

"Good" he said and slowly came to it.

"My lord!?"

"I need to test something Annette, bare with me"

"But I hear it's agonizing!?"

"Ssh" he slowly reached to it, then braced quickly touching it and drew back.

"It's, hot!" He said looking at his hand.

"My lord!?"

There was no smoke though, so he tried again holding it there longer, but still he could bare with it, Ray pushed Annette aside and threw the curtains open, sunlight blasted his face making him flinch, subconsciously wanting to duck out of the way, but the only sensation he got was the warmth, and it felt good. 

"My lord?" Annette asked watching him as he brushed his now orange lit skin.

"I, I can't believe this, I never thought it would feel this nice"

"How? How are you doing that?" She asked.

"The ring of Sol" he said holding it up on his finger "It's protecting me from the sun"

Ray could feel a whole new world of possibilities open up for him, walking in daylight!? When the living moves most.

When turning to Annette he saw her face shocked, some what worried "What's wrong?"

"No offense my lord, being a vampire, you are fast, strong, and practically invincible, the only weakness you have is the sun, now that you don't have that to hold you back..."

Ray placed his hand on her shoulder "I despise evil Annette, I would never harm anyone... Why do you think you all serve us? Humans willing to be bitten?"

She produced half a smile "I, I guess youre right"

"Come now Annette! Relax and breathe, I still have questions for you!" He said taking her hand and leading her to the front doors of the castle.

"You know, we vampires are actually very useless you know!?" He said and laughed at her confused face.

"Useless my lord?"

"We need you to survive, can you imagine if humans had the capability to evade vampires? We'd starve to death, wee need you, and on top of that, the lot of you who helps us here in the castle, you are probably the most important humans we know of..." He said and looked at her "We rely on you a lot"

Annette smiled and blushed "That means a lot my lord"

At the front door Ray opened the doors just like many times before, accept thistime it was daylight.

He stood watching the colors, watching the vibrant light, then he turned to Annette who waited for him patiently, he held his hand to her "A new world has opened for me, just as these doors has, maiden... Be so kind as to introduce me to it"

Annette's face went blood red "It, it would be an honor my lord" She said and took his hand.
