Athena wasn’t lying when she said that the hall had being beautifully decorated. It was pretty impressive what they had done with it and as the hall slowly began to fill up I could see that the guests were thoroughly impressed.
The moment I freshened up and changed into the uniform that we were mandated to wear on occasions like this I had begun to feel the exhaustion settling within my bones. No matter how hard I had begged Stella to let me be her little assistant cook the stubborn woman had insisted that I come to the ball and serve. Mentioning something about meeting my mate amongst one of the Alphas.Even as I thought about it now I couldn’t help my eye roll at her words. As if that were possible for someone like myself.“Don’t just stand there looking like a fool Cat, these guests won’t serve themselves.” Jason hissed from behind me and continued on as if he had done nothing. The hall was slowly filling up although the main guest was yet to show up. I picked up a tray filled with flutes of wine and began to weave my way through the building crowd, offering the wine to the guests. There was loud talking and boisterous laughter and the air around the room would have been contagious save for the fact that none of it was meant to be enjoyed by people like me.Just as I was moving the empty tray back to the end of the hall where more of it was being dispensed I felt a firm hand reach out to grab onto me and a little squeal that was covered by the noise of the place escaped my lips.“What’s a pretty one like you doing working a party such as this one? You should be sitting amongst the classy women.” The man said in a gruff voice. When I looked to him, I was met with a disgustingly fat and short man with a creepy smile that exposed yellowing teeth. He wore a white suit and I couldn’t help but grimace. It didn’t suit him at all and the white of it made his sickly looking skin stick out even more.I looked to his hand still on my arm, that he was now stroking and I had to fight the urge to scream in his face and scratch out his eyes.“I’m not interested sir. Thank you.” I said politely instead of the string of insults that were trying to burst out of my lips. His smile only widened along with his tight grip on my arm. That was sure to bruise if he kept on with it.“Are you denying me of a request?” He asked, the smile on his face remained in place but his gruff voice became even deeper and was filled with irritation.“You’re hurting me sir, please let go of me.” I pleaded, trying to look around hoping to find Jason. The idiot trainer always disappeared when he was needed the most.It wasn’t absurd for an Alpha to begin a sexual relationship with an omega, but at an event like this it wasn’t acceptable. The Alpha was about to respond when the hall erupted in cheers and clapping. I could see my Alpha entering into the hall and behind him was another man that I assumed to be the Alpha King.He was surprisingly tall and fit looking for a man that was supposed to be old and fat. I was about to turn back around and slip to the back since the Alpha had let go of my hand to pay attention to what was happening up front. But that was when the Alpha raised his head to address the crowd and when I caught sight of his face my heart stopped working in my chest. It couldn’t be.This was the man that come to the hill just earlier in the afternoon.“Are you okay? you look like you’ve just seen a ghost.” Athena asked once I was back.I ignored her. I had asked the Alpha king if he was crazy? What if he had been offended by that and would spot me amongst these people and pick me out to publicly humiliate me or worse pass out my death sentence.I had two missions now. Avoid the disgusting Alpha as much as I could and also avoid the front rows where the Alpha king was settled. It shouldn’t be too hard, the hall was big enough that it was impossible that the Alpha would be able to pick me out amongst the crowd of people that now occupied the hall.My plan was foolproof and I turned to refill my tray with drinks when Jason appeared beside me. I said nothing but secretly wished I could squeeze the life out of him, now that I didn’t need him, trust him to appear out of nowhere.“Take only one drink. You have to serve the Alpha Gwaine.” He said and I nodded my head.Returning the rest of the drinks and leaving the singular drink as he had asked.“Alright where is he?” I asked and from the sinister smile that painted the trainers lips I knew that there was no way I would like the response.“Up there. You’re to serve the Alpha King.”At his words I was pretty sure that all the blood drained from my face and went straight to my head, I could even feel the dizzy effect from my shock.“Please sir, can you send someone else? Please I’ll make up for it with extra work. Please I beg you don’t make me go up there.” I pleaded with Jason but he only scoffed at me.“If it was up to me you wouldn’t ever reach the center of this hall. The Alpha has requested that you alone serve him, so you better be on your way and trust me Cat, if you embarrass me you’ll be doing a lot more than extra work.” Jason said, walking away from me while muttering quietly to himself. When I looked to the front where Alpha Gwaine was seated, he had his eyes trained on me and I shivered from the intensity even with the distance between us. I gulped to push down the lump that was stuck in my throat. And then holding on the tray tightly, I began walking down to the front of the hall. The hall was still pretty busy and I knew that there was no one paying much attention to me, well except the Alpha but it felt like the eyes of the entire hall was on my back and everybody was watching my every step.I focused so much on walking carefully and making sure that the tray in my hands was balanced that I didn’t see the foot that was just in the way of the spot I was about to go through. The next couple of seconds felt like a blur and it happened so fast. One moment I was concentrating on the tray before me and the next I was hitting the ground alongside the tray. The sound of glass shattering hit my ears and that was when realization hit me. The entire hall had gone silent and I began praying to the Goddess to open up the ground so I could be buried into it.“You bitch! How dare you?” The voice of the disgusting man that I had rejected his advances just minutes before came through.I scrambled to my feet and it was to face the angry Alpha. There was a patch on his white suit where the red wine had stained.“I-I’m so sorry sir. Please, I’m sorry.” Tears pricked at my eyes at the entire situation and in the moment I wanted nothing more than to begin bawling my eyes out at the humiliation of the situation.“You’re sorry? This jacket is worth more than your entire worthless life and you’re sorry? Is that supposed to help with replacing this jacket?” The man roared and I cowered from him.“Alpha Gabriel, I’m sure we can settle this amicably, she’s just a silly and stupid omega please accept my apologies on her behalf and be rest assured that the right punishment will come to her.” My Alpha said from before me.I didn’t know when he had moved from his position at the front of the room to where we currently were and when I raised my head to meet his, the death glare in his eyes and the anger let me know that after this situation was over, I would be getting the worst beating alongside a very cruel punishment.“I really don’t care what you do to your untrained omega. You could kill the ugly bitch for all I care but this jacket cost me five thousand dollars and I’m not leaving this place without it.”My heart skipped two beats in my chest. Five thousand dollars? There was no way in hell that jacket was five thousand dollars and also no way my Alpha was going to agree to pay it.“Gabriel come on that’s outrageous!”“Are you calling me a liar?” The gruff man said.“No, no, it’s just that there’s no way you expect her or myself to be able to pay you five thousand dollars for a mistake.”“A very expensive mistake, need i remind you. If you can’t pay it and she can’t, then I’m taking her with me to serve until she can clear her debt.”It was at his words that I really began to cry. I would do anything else in the world except go home with this man. Goddess knew what he would do to me if I agreed to go home with him.“Gabriel I’m sure we can fix something. The-““I’ll pay for the jacket.” That voice pierced through my subconscious and I startled at the sound of it.“And the girl comes with me!”It was at this point that my heart really stopped beating.I knew that minutes before I had wished for anything else, but does this anything else had to be the Alpha King taken on my debt and acquiring me along with it?I locked eyes with the Alpha King, he was yet to move from his seat but as we locked eyes, the power that emanated from his eyes was enough to have me cowering like he was standing right beside me. For the first time in my life, I understood what authority meant. I didn’t feel like being rebellious, I didn’t feel like I had to exert some sort of dominance even with my Omega status. I actually felt submissive and I couldn’t tell if it were just his powerful eyes or his aura in general. “You’re one very lucky bitch, but you should know one thing; I always get what I want, no matter how long it takes.” Alpha Gabriel said in a low tone to only my hearing, before walking past me, bumping my shoulders painfully on his way. I watched with my heart in my mouth as Alpha Gwaine signed the check of the exaggerated five thousand dollars and the longer the ordeal took the faster my heart beat, it was hard to believe my heart was still in its cage at this point. “Come with me Cat.” Jason said t
“You didn’t strike me as the quiet type of person when we met earlier.” Gwaine said beside me and I fought the urge to snicker. It would take a while before I could get used to not behaving like a nuisance. I really didn’t want to offend the Alpha but that might be hard. ‘Well you also didn’t strike me as the king type of person when we met earlier.’ I thought to myself but kept it in, shrugging in response to his words instead. He hummed underneath his breath and for some reason I found the small, useless action attractive. Truth was, there was not a part of this man that I didn’t find attractive and that scared me beyond anything I could explain. This was Alpha Gwaine Stone. Supreme leader of the werewolves, rumors went around that he had been chosen by the Moon Goddess her self to rule over us all as the Alpha King. I mean, not that I believed the rumor personally, I still very much think that he might have been elected by a group of other Alphas, or he might have won a great
The moment that the men picked me from the floor, it felt like the action triggered the fight in me. I kicked and screamed and scratched and did just about anything to be set free, but it was all wasted efforts. They were far too big for me to cause any sort of damage on them and I was sure that they could knock me unconscious if they chose to do so. I couldn’t believe that for the better part of the day I had found the Alpha attractive. Whatever it was that had caused that small thought in my mind was completely dead now and all I wanted to do was kill the man himself. He was going to lock me up because I refused to be his sex slave? What kind of person was he? I didn’t think the Alpha would turn out to be this sort of person, he had seemed pretty decent on the hill, was that a pretense? But why would he have to pretend for any reason. I got no answer to that question, instead I was shoved roughly into a dark room. My reduced senses couldn’t do much with helping me see better in
Gwaine’s POV:From the moment Vilkus took an interest in her, I knew that I had to get far away from her else there would be trouble, but she just happened to cause a scene at the feast and awake the beast within me once more. Being Alpha King was such a great role in the eyes of many. Until they realized that it came with a beast that was in as much control as one’s human side was. But it might be worse for me, since my beast actually had the greater control of my mind than my human side did. The only perk, might be the fact that I at least got to be in my human body and interact in human form. Goddess knew how much trouble Vilkus could cause if his form was allowed to roam out more often. I watched as Catherine’s head hung from the side as she slept, unaware of my presence. She was really cute and I loved how fiery she could get, but I wasn’t sure that attitude sat well with my wolf. Vilkus loved his women submissive, fiery, feisty, he just didn’t do well with neither of those t
The sound of footsteps pierced through my slumber and jerked me back to consciousness. Of course I was met with darkness for the umpteenth time and I wanted to scream out in frustration. What was the Alpha’s plan? Keep me locked up in the darkness until I surrendered and begged him for his dick? Because that was never happening so he might as well let me go now so the treatment to his ego could commence before the hurt got any worse. The door was gently pushed open and I frowned when I recognized the Alpha’s scent begin to fill the room. He had such a unique scent that it sometimes burned my nose. I wasn’t sure how long I had been sleeping for because every time I opened my eyes, everything felt, looked and sounded the same and time really did slip past when one couldn’t get a hold on it. “Are you ready to be my mistress Catherine?” The Alpha’s silky voice sounded in the room and although it was as pleasant as the first time I had heard it, it did nothing but thoroughly irritate
The next time I gained consciousness, the space around me felt very different. Although my body still burned as badly as I remembered before I blacked out. I finally realized why it all felt different when I could feel a cold surface beneath me, one that felt like pure bliss against my burning back. There was someone else in the room, but they weren’t hurting me. Instead, it felt like they were helping me. I could feel a cloth pressed on top my head and although the water was too cold, I felt too weak to try to protest. I only shivered in effect. I tried to force my eyes open but the pain in my head stopped me from completely trying to open it. Instead I hissed weakly, trying to warn whoever was messing with me to back up but it wasn’t working as well as I had hoped for because they only continued to do it. “Stupid girl, can’t get her mouth to shut up.” I finally heard someone whisper and I recognized the voice immediately. This was the mean girl from the first time that I had co
Gwaine’s POV: My eyes flipped open and I was met with complete darkness but it wasn’t anything I didn’t expect. I was used to turning off all my lights before going to bed, so the darkness wasn’t anything new or weird, but something felt weird. I squinted in the darkness, my super human vision allowed me to be able to see every detail in the room, in black and grey because of the darkness in the room, but it felt like I was missing something, like I still had to see something that was lurking in the darkness. I perked my ears, hoping to hear something out of the ordinary, something different but everything was really still. Then what had woken me up from the almost peaceful sleep I had been having? I was sure there was something in the darkness that had troubled my sleep, I could even feel the presence somewhere around the room. Sitting up in bed, I squinted when I noticed something else. Everything was too quiet, but not only around my environment, even my mind was way too quie
I couldn’t even explain how much I missed looking at a clock and being able to keep track of time, but being locked up in this room not only took that luxury from me, now time felt more like a concept and less of a reality. I knew that the rude maid girl had come to me at some point, cleaned and changed my clothes, given me some pills and food, I could remember all of that but I wasn’t sure how long ago it had happened. I had slept, woken up, drank some more water, cussed the stupid Alpha out loud before sleeping some more again. The isolation that I had been subjected to in the last couple of days locked up in this dungeon, was starting to slowly drive me crazy. I wasn’t accustomed to not seeing the sunlight at the very least, the walls were starting to close in on me and every time I gained consciousness, I fought to go back to the somewhat blissful sleep where there was no pain or any sort of stimuli at all. But something felt different this time when I woke up. I was used to
One year laterI sat in front of my drawing board with a pencil and some paper spread out in front of me. The piece in front of me was a portrait of my son. I had always drawn him since he was born; a portrait for each month. A little boy with his mother’s eyes, long blonde hair that grew so much I had to cut it often, his tiny nose and his wide smile. I would capture the look in those brown eyes whenever they caught the reflection of the window, when the sun reflected off of the ocean and warmed them up.The door creaked open but I was so lost in thoughts I didn’t hear it. Gwaine came up from behind me and wrapped his hands around me. I rested my head on his chest as he kissed my neck. “Hello beautiful. You’re up early, why don’t we have breakfast first?” He whispered, nuzzling his face into my shoulder.I laughed at his remark because very one knew I wasn’t a morning person. It was late September, the summer months were almost over but we still got to enjoy the days together. His
Gwaine’s POV:I looked at Catherine’s lifeless body as she laid on the ground motionless. Her blood had soaked through her white gown and was pooled around her thighs. I fell in my knees and rushed over to her side, gathering her in my arms with my head turned away from her open eyes which stared unseeingly up into nothingness. My heart felt heavy in my chest and as I held her, I cried silently. The baby cried and Gina, one of the people Regan had come with picked him up and cradled him against her chest. She held him securely, not minding the fact that he was covered in blood. Tears streamed down my face and I knew there would be no end of crying later. The sobs shook me whole and for a while, all I could do was hold onto her limp form and cry, letting her warmth flow into me through our embrace. I didn’t know how long we stayed like that, but it felt like an eternity. After what seemed like forever, I eventually stood back up slowly, my tears drying up with each passing second
Gwaine’s POVI sat in my office with Regan and Jason as we went over the plan again. If Catherine’s mother was held within wolf territory, I was convinced Catherine herself was being held somewhere close. “We’re going to split into different groups so we can search the forest surrounding every border. Jason nodded attentively.Turning to Regan, I said, “You’re not to tell any of the soldiers about this, just assemble them by morning and split them. There’s a traitor out there and until I’m sure who it is, no important information is to be repeated outside this room.” “Alright.” He answered.I couldn’t get myself to trust anyone, not after Nicole’s betrayal. The security around the house had been doubled and the maids were not allowed in certain areas except there was someone to supervise them.Catherine’s mother was making a quick recovery now that her system had been cleansed if that drug. She was discharged from the hostel and now occupied the room that once belonged to Catherine
I sat on my bed, deeply distracted by my thoughts. I tried to remember how long I’ve been here for but I couldn’t. I wondered how Gwaine had managed to not find me all this time.I thought about my art, it feels like it’s been years since I held a pencil. I looked down at my palms, caressing it slowly as I imagined the things I wanted to draw. The metal door creaked noisily and when I heard the sound of keys, I turned towards it. A girl not more than eighteen walked in, tray of food in hand. The meal here was awful but although it tasted awful, I had to eat as there was no other options available for me.“Thank you.” I mouthed but she didn’t respond. She simply dropped it on the table and walked out. I dragged the table closer so I could eat from it while sitting on my bed.I ate quietly, almost chocking on the bread I tried to swallow. Once I was done, I drank from the glass of water that was placed beside my meal.I returned it, sighing deeply as I thought about the kind of meal I w
Gwaine’s POV:The beeping sound of my alarm sounded muffled in my head like someone had stomped on it and then stuffed it under a mattress before it went off. Slowly, the sound got louder and harder to ignore. I searched blindly with my right hand, grabbed the device and pressed different buttons until it stopped.Sighing deeply, I sat upright. I looked at my wrist watch, it was almost 7am. I had managed to fall asleep last night, even though it was just for a few hours. I looked at my desk, there were papers everywhere. There was no time to fix that mess as I had an important meeting with Regan this morning. I had to be ready before he arrived. I headed into the bathroom for a quick shower.I stopped in front of the mirror and looked at my reflection. I was in dire need of a shave. My face looked unkept as I hadn’t shaved since Catherine disappeared. I ran my fingers on my face, feeling the now overgrown facial hairs. I picked up my face cream as I finally decided it was time to cle
I spent the next couple of days learning their routines. There were three separate guard change every day. The first guard patrolled from about 6am in the morning till noon and the second took over and ended his shift by 6pm.The last guard was there all night. I once tried to engage one of them in a conversation but he had refused to say anything so I assumed they all had orders not to engage in any conversation with me.The days went by slowly, speeding up only when Charles was around. I had gotten used to him, so much that I looked forward to our sessions. I raised my head at the sound of approaching footsteps. I could tell it was Dianne by the rapid clanking against the ground. She wore heels, always. She fumbled with the door for a bit before she finally pushed it open. She had a mischievous smile on her face and I sat there, wondering why she seemed so excited. “Oh sweet Catherine!” She exclaimed as she walked closer to where I was sitting. I sat upright, spreading my legs
The first time the doctor came to check up on me, I was asleep. Dianne slammed the door so hard, I jerked awake. I sat upright, rubbing my eyes with the back of my palm. The chains on my wrist slammed against each other and made a rather annoying sound. For a moment, I sat in silence, my heart hammering against my chest with fear and panic as I saw Dianne and a strange man walking towards me. My hands were clammy, my fingers trembling as I gripped the edges of the bed. After a second of hesitation, I loosened my grip on the bad, raising my head to look Dianne in the eye.“I see you’ve made yourself rather comfortable.” She said, looking around the room. She had ordered for my room to be cleaned and a bed was brought in.It creaked noisily with every movement but it was better than nothing. The window was opened a bit so air could come in freely. Although the room still reeked of everything foul, it wasn’t as bad as before. “Good morning to you too Dianne.” I said, clasping my hand
Gwaine’s POVJason had proved to be useful these past few days and now, Regan seemed to let him tag along. I wasn’t surprised to see him in my house, again. “You seem to forget this meeting was between an Alpha King and his beta.” I whispered to Regan. Jason had his eyes darting in every corner as he admired the interior of my office.“If we really want to find Catherine, we need his help, Gwaine.” Regan said, beckoning to Jason and then, they both had a sit right across from me.“Do you have any information on what’s going on?” I asked Jason. If the man was going to be a part of this meeting then he might as well contribute and earn his place. He raised his head to answer and that was when I had a chance to look him over. He was smart, no doubt, but seemed to tremble in my presence. He had on a white Tshirt and a faded blue Jean. His blonde hair was a mess, with some strands covering the most part of his forehead. “From what I’ve gathered, the humans are capturing as many wolves
Gwaine’s POV: I sat in my office as I tried to sort out the hundreds of files that had piled up on my desk within these last few weeks. I had finally let Nicole come in and clean the place up. The office was neatly organized now. The only evidence of its previous messes were the countless empty coffee cups that littered my desk. I had been up all night working as I couldn’t get any sleep, not with Catherine still missing.I had put up a lot of notices around town, urging anyone who had any information on her whereabouts to please come forward. So far, no one had come to me with anything useful. I rubbed on my eyes as I looked at the now empty cup that sat before me. I had managed to consume an entire pot of coffee alone and I couldn’t get myself to brew another. I walked over to the shelf, picking out a brand new bottle of whiskey from the top and taking it back into my office with me as I continued sorting through the pile of documents in front of me. I poured some liquor into th
