Chapter 136

My mum wrapped her arms around me tightly and sobbed silently for a few seconds. We could still hear movements above us. It soon became closer.

My heart was pounding so hard against my ribcage. My mum and I were so scared. We were in trouble; they had already said they wouldn't stop looking until they found the person who had been talking.

This was all my fault. I was a bit loud over the phone when speaking to my father. If I had just lowered my voice, our presence would not have been sniffed out.

My mum held my shoulders squarely as she looked at me in the dark, my sharp wolf vision picking up on her eyes which were filled with fear.

"Listen to me, Athena," she whispered. Even through the whisper, the fear in her voice was unmistakable.

"They are closing in on us. They will soon find this cave, and I don't want to let that happen." She shut her eyes and bit her lower lip. I knew she was trying to fight back her tears.

She was trying to be strong at this point in time,
