Carrie
I was over the moon when my alpha boyfriend asked me to go to the annual Moonlight Gala with him. In my mind, this invitation was one step closer to me being his wife and Luna. This party was dedicated to alphas and other high-ranking members of different packs so, of course, I wouldn’t miss it for the world!
However, my family’s reaction was different. In their words, it would only ruin my reputation. This party was exclusive to those alpha pairs and married-to-be couples. We were neither but not for long…I hope.
“Mate…”
I couldn’t imagine how that single word changed my life in a blink of an eye. I came here to this party hoping to have one of the best nights of my life. I dressed up for the occasion, making sure that everyone would turn their head once they see me. I sure get everyone’s attention, but all for the wrong reasons.
I watched in horror as I saw my boyfriend, Noah Frost, inched closer to the woman he called his mate. She so smote him that he totally forgot about my three-year relationship with him. I looked like a total fool, standing still where he left me, hearing all of the whispers and malicious comments from the very people who used to admire my beauty when I arrived ten minutes ago. Well, I couldn’t blame them.
Because in this love story, I was the third party.
Perhaps I considered my situation as one of the books. As a werewolf, we were expected to wait and remain loyal to the mate that the moon goddess had chosen for us. But my heart had other plans. Because despite the discouragement I received from the people around me, I began having a relationship with the Alpha of our pack.
Noah Frost was my childhood friend and a constant figure in my life. We grew up together, as he was friends with my older twin brothers. I started admiring his messy-looking auburn hair, light blue eyes, and smile that could take all worries away from afar. Eventually, I gathered enough courage to confess my feelings for him against the wishes of my wolf, Vera. I was ecstatic when Noah accepted my love. We were happy during those times we were together. But not until this night when he laid his eyes on that petite girl in a blue gown he called his mate.
“That’s what she gets from being a slut! That’s karma!”
“She should have not assumed that Alpha Noah would name her his Luna. She was not even his mate!”
“Serves her right!”
I could only bite my lips as those nasty comments kept on filling my ears. But I stood my ground, raising my chin upward. This couldn’t be the end. Those three years that I and Alpha Noah had spent together weren’t just for nothing. I knew that I made him feel loved and genuinely happy. So I refused to believe that he would throw it all out for a girl he just met tonight.
Gathering the remaining confidence inside me, I went in their direction. Noah looked tense while the girl was totally clueless about what was happening. I draped my hand on Noah’s arm before offering my other hand for a handshake, “Caroline James, Noah’s girlfriend.”
Noah’s face turned pale while removing my hand from his arm. “Carrie, please. Not in here.”
“And where should we discuss this matter, then?” I queried, raising one of my eyebrows in the process. I turned to the still-stunned woman and began addressing her afterward, “I think this little miss over here deserves to know the truth.”
“I have a name,” she stated, almost in a whisper. “Lia Addams of Moonriver Pack.”
“Moonriver Pack? Do you happen to be related to Alpha Bennett Addams?” Noah asked.
Lia smiled and took a nod. “He was my father.”
I saw Noah’s face lit up upon hearing it. A mateship between an alpha with an alpha daughter was considered a million chances to one. He hit the jackpot!
The turn of events was a tough pill to swallow. Slowly, I could feel that the love of my life was slowly drifting away from me.
All because of a stranger and that stupid mate bond that drew them together!
“Noah…?”
It was more than me spitting out his name, rather, my way of asking him how we would move forward with our lives after this night.
It was basically me, asking for what I had become in his life after he found his destined mate.
“It’s over, Carrie. We are done,” he uttered. There was no hint of remorse in his eyes. I felt like useless garbage that he dumped without hesitation.
And then without a warning, he grabbed Lia’s waist and pulled her into a kiss. Everyone gasped as they showed their support to the newly-found mates.
I stepped back, still dumbfounded about how this night went. All of the restraints I built inside my eyes were destroyed, letting my tears finally stream down my face.
“No…This is not happening…” I whispered to myself.
It was hard to imagine that the love I defended from the world left me with broken dreams, trampled ego, and a shattered heart. Those nights I snuck out of our house to meet him against my Beta father’s wishes were all put to vain. The humiliation I was forced to suck up was all for nothing.
Noah had dumped me. He left me for the mate he had told me once, he wishes to not meet.
With that, I ran out of the place. I didn’t know how but my body, which was frozen in that spot earlier, finally had the strength to move. I bowed my head in the process, as shame finally took effect on me. I’ve never felt so humiliated in my entire life. Only tonight.
If this was the price I have to pay for falling in love, then I no longer wanted it. Noah would be my first and last heartbreak. I wished not to bear similar pain and betrayal in the future. I am done with this bullshit.
I was in the middle of pledging myself out of love when suddenly, an intoxicating aroma filled my nostrils. The scent was aromatically woody, with a captivating trail that was hard to resist. The mysterious smell reminded me of rocky landscapes and earthy trails.
But before I could wrap my head around it, I saw my wolf jumping up and down inside my head.
“It was him! He was here!” Vera exclaimed.
CarrieMy heart began to pound, wanting to get clarification. Although I have a hint about the person she was talking about, I still dared to ask. ‘Who are you talking about?’Vera answered me with enthusiasm. ‘Our mate, you silly girl! Our mate is here.’Oh, shit! Could this night be any worst? I wasn’t like the regular she-wolves who dreamed about finding their mates all their lives. While I revered the female deity who was sacred to us werewolves, I would rather choose the man that would become my husband rather than settle on what the moon goddess had chosen for me. So the whole idea of this soulmate thing never captured my interest. This was the reason why I gave my heart to Alpha Noah without any second thoughts. He became my boyfriend because I chose to love him, not because of an invisible force that binds us together. ‘Don’t you just stand there! Follow the scent so we can be with our mate. Hurry!’ Vera exclaimed. This was the first time my wolf commanded me like this. Thi
JerickOne week ago, our sister was the life of every party. Whenever she was around, the room just lit up in an instant. Although she was stubborn and a certified rebel, we love her no less. She was the living reminder of our mother’s dying love for her children as she died giving birth to Caroline. We will do everything for our hard-headed munchkin, even if we disagreed on a lot of things at times. But now, she was completely changed. The once bubbly and energetic eighteen-year-old became dejected, depressed, and hopeless. Seeing her like this was beyond heartbreaking. She refused to eat and almost secluded herself inside her room. Jerald and I tried our best to cheer her up on multiple occasions, but she was not interested. She was at her window all the time, staring at something beyond our eyes can see. My blood boiled thinking about what had happened to her. Carrie just turned eighteen, while Alpha Noah was a few years ahead of her. This could have easily been avoided if not f
CarrieI never had a problem with making choices. In fact, I love them! For me, it was a way to exercise my right to choose, which my Beta father imposed on me even when I was still a young she-wolf. It was also my way of liberating myself and going with the things that would truly make me happy. But so far, the choices my father had left me were nothing but a pain in the ass. How could I choose between two things that I hate?Tomorrow night, Noah, now my alpha ex-boyfriend, was making his one-night-old relationship with that girl official. He was planning to name her his Luna that quickly! I have waited for three years to prove my worth to him as a better choice for the role but all of my efforts were gone in an instant because of that alpha daughter. Like can you imagine? One night was all it took for her to completely discredit me in Noah’s life. And now my father wanted me to party with them and congratulate her for ruining my life.Oh, hell no! Not in a million years! Lia Addams
JesseI never thought I would see the day. And yet it came in the most unexpected way. I stood on the packhouse balcony, holding a glass of scotch. The golden liquid sparkled in the fading sunlight, matching the warm feeling inside me. It had been two days since I first saw the girl who stole my heart, and ever since then, my whole world changed. Before that special night, my life was ordinary. Leading my pack, Silverfang, and taking leisurely walks in the woods were my main concerns. Finding a life partner wasn't something I thought about much, except when my mother reminded me of my duty. But now, everything was different. My mother's words echoed in my mind, urging me to find the woman who would be my Luna, my destined mate. Her words mattered because, as the pack leader, it was my responsibility to fulfill this duty. So there I stood on the balcony, with the lingering taste of scotch, knowing that my life would never be the same.Don’t get me wrong, I had a fair share of daydream
JesseI didn’t know what had gotten into me but the moment I saw her beautiful smile, my feet grew a mind of their own. I just found myself walking towards her, throwing all my inhibitions in the process. I thought it was all on me until I felt Vigo’s presence. I realized that we both wanted to do this, making me a bit braver in doing so. I pulled my mate’s waist and tilted her chin up. The next thing I knew, my lips were pressed into hers. I had tasted multiple lips before but nothing compared to hers. It was sweet and addicting, something that I would never stop craving for the rest of my life. It was nothing like I imagined, only a thousand times better. I knew everyone’s eyes were on us at that point but I simply didn’t care. As I let go of her lips and stared at those beautiful orbs, I whispered, “Mine. All mine.”The world seemed to come to an abrupt halt, time freezing in its tracks. My heart pounded in my chest, the suspense thick in the air. A few seconds passed, and just a
CarrieI went here with one goal in mind, to use the alpha of Silverfang, Jesse Morris, to make my ex-boyfriend jealous.Vera, my wolf spirit, was upset. She hid away in the depths of my mind, refusing to communicate. But I paid no attention to her. She knew me well. My inner wolf understood that I was determined and persistent. I always pursued what I desired, unshaken by my father or my overprotective brothers. But one kiss changed everything. I am no virgin. I wasn't inexperienced when it came to kissing and pleasuring a man. I could proudly say that I shared all my firsts with just one man—Noah. This was uncommon for she-wolves, you see. We were expected to remain pure until we discovered our destined mate. We were supposed to remain chaste until we met them. That was the general expectation, but not mine. I had always been different. I rejected conformity and established my own rules. My body, my choice. Consequently, many members of our pack despised me for being so open-minde
Carrie"I know. It's your alpha, right?"His words hit me like a sudden gust of wind, leaving me momentarily stunned. How could he possibly know about Noah? The realization washed over me, connecting the dots with my brother's late-night conversation with this man. "Did my brother tell you about me and Noah?""Yeah.""What else did he tell you?""Everything."My lips pressed tightly together as a lump formed in my throat. It felt unjust. This stranger, who knew every intimate detail about me, remained a mystery to me, save for his name. The weight of our circumstances bore down on me, amplifying the intensity of the moment. I locked eyes with him, drawing in a deep breath before gathering the strength to continue."Now that you know, I guess this is goodbye.""What? Why?" His eyebrows furrowed in confusion."Seriously? I just confessed my love for another man. Are you trying to tell me—""I accept it," he interrupted, brushing aside my words as inconsequential. "It doesn't matter.""
CarrieI sat in the room, surrounded by walls that felt like they were closing in on me. Anger and frustration swirled within me, intensifying my desire to escape this place. I refused to go out and face the world at Silverfang. The mere thought of it made my blood boil. Being forced to stay here against my wishes was the thing I hated the most, and the fact that Jesse, my so-called mate, had conspired with my family only made it worse. But the biggest blow came when my spirit wolf, the one I had always relied on, betrayed me by refusing to help me leave. I felt utterly alone in this unfamiliar territory, with no one to turn to for comfort. I felt so alone. Just when I thought I couldn't bear it any longer, a knock on the door disrupted the suffocating silence. It was Nancy, Jesse's mom. She had done nothing wrong to me and always made me feel welcome since I arrived here, so I hesitantly allowed her into the room. As she entered, her warm smile and compassionate eyes met mine. Her
Jesse I was preparing everything for Liam. The time had come for him to return to Blackmoon after spending some time with me in Silverfang. As I gathered his things, a touch of melancholy washed over me. Our time together had been an incredible experience, and now it was coming to an end. "Make sure you don't forget anything," I reminded him. Liam nodded, a bright smile on his face. It had been two years since our battle with Corey, and we had all returned to our peaceful lives. My life had transformed into a colorful and joyous one since Liam had entered it. Carrie had finally agreed to let me be part of their lives as a co-parent with Liam. I had been making up for lost time and bonding with my son, and even the Silverfang pack celebrated his arrival the first time he set foot here. Jerick, although he hadn't forgiven me completely, was now civil and warmer with me. He had expressed his approval of me being in Liam's life despite everything that had happened between our packs, an
CarrieAs Jesse and I approached each other, a hush fell over the crowd, as if the world had suddenly paused. The air was filled with anticipation, and my heart raced with a mixture of nervousness and excitement. I called out to my son, who was now by my side, and he gladly approached me.Tears welled up in my eyes as I rushed towards him, and we held each other in a tight, heartfelt hug. My hands instinctively ran through his soft, tousled hair, and I caressed his face with an overwhelming sense of joy and relief. The emotions surged through me like a tidal wave.Liam looked up at me with a hint of concern in his innocent eyes, his small voice breaking the silence. "What's wrong, mommy?"I couldn't contain my tears, but they were tears of happiness, and a warm smile graced my face. "Mommy is just happy to see you again, sweetheart. I love you with all my heart. You know that, right?"Liam's face lit up with a bright, contagious smile, and he wrapped his little arms around me, declari
Jesse"Liam, wake up, please!" I cried out, my voice filled with desperation. Skull Valley loomed in the darkness around us, an eerie silence in the night. Liam lay motionless under the night sky. He didn't respond to my pleas. I tried to rouse him gently, tapping his cheeks, but his eyes remained closed. Panic and fear consumed me, and every passing second only deepened the dread in my heart."Liam!" I shouted, my voice trembling with raw emotion. My mind swirled with a torrent of terrifying possibilities, and I couldn't bear the thought of a future without my son. I shook him, holding onto his lifeless form, pleading with him to awaken, but he remained unresponsive. Desperation welled within me, and my cries grew more frantic, echoing through the desolate night."No... no... my son... wake up..." The words quivered on my lips, mirroring the unbearable agony that had taken hold of my soul.I looked around, feeling utterly helpless. Tears streamed down my cheeks, obscuring my vision a
Jesse I followed Ex-Beta Corey's instructions and arrived at Skull Valley alone, determined to do everything to save Liam. I knew the risks of facing Corey and his rogue army, but I had no choice. My heart pounded with a mix of fear and determination as I ventured deeper into the desolate valley. The moon hung low in the night sky, casting an eerie glow over the rocky terrain. I had to navigate carefully to avoid any unwanted confrontations. The wind rustled through the dry grass, and a chill ran down my spine, making me feel more vulnerable than ever. Finally, I spotted Corey standing near a gnarled tree, holding Liam tightly. Our eyes locked, and a tense silence hung in the air. “Mr. Morris!” Liam shouted, making Corey twitch slightly on his side, silencing him with a tightened grip. I clenched my fist seeing this. “Don’t you dare hurt him!” I shouted back. “I did your bidding. Now, release the boy at once and face me!” Corey shouted with a smirk, "You're a fool, Jesse. Coming
JesseThe day had come for me to face Corey. I stood before the mirror, adjusting my shirt, trying to steady my nerves. I'd been in many battles before, but this one was unlike any other. This time, I had to confront my enemy with an unknown disadvantage, and I needed to find a way to succeed, or else I would lose my son before he even knew I existed. We had decided to stay in the Astoria pack until the day of the confrontation. I was in the room that Alpha Christian had provided as my temporary chambers, mentally preparing for the impending war. Running away was not an option this time.As I tried to gather my thoughts and find the courage I needed, I heard a gentle knock on the door. I knew my mother had come to check on me by her gentle voice. She had been trying to engage me in conversation, sensing the weight of the situation, but my mind was preoccupied, and I had ignored her repeated attempts. She entered the room with some supplies for my journey, her concern and love evident
CarrieThe tension in the room was palpable, like an invisible storm cloud hanging heavily in the air. As the troops wisely decided to make their exit, their footsteps echoed in the silence, and the atmosphere grew even more charged. Alpha Christian and Jerick left as well, their absence leaving us alone to confront the emotional turmoil that had long been simmering beneath the surface.Nancy hesitated, her eyes brimming with tears. An unspoken concern was etched across her face, a deep worry for what might transpire in the room. However, her reluctance to leave was overridden by my firm determination. I could feel her trepidation, her desire to stay and protect, but this was the moment for Jesse and me alone."I think this is the time for Jesse and me to face our past," I finally broke the silence, my voice quivering with a mixture of resolve and anxiety."But, Carrie—"I locked eyes with her, silently pleading for her to trust my judgment. I knew that what needed to be said, what ne
JesseI asked the question, desperate for an answer that Carrie wasn't giving. Frustration boiled inside me, and I raised my voice, demanding the truth from her."Answer me, Carrie! And don't you dare lie to me! IS LIAM MY SON?!"But all I got from Carrie were sobs and heavy breaths, and I needed answers urgently. As I leaned closer to her, a strange sensation began to infiltrate my mind. It felt as if an invisible hand was delving into the recesses of my thoughts, attempting to convey a message. This eerie and disconcerting sensation hinted at a presence trying to communicate with me, yet its source remained unclear. It dawned on me that it was a connection attempting to breach the boundaries of my consciousness, and the realization hit me like a thunderbolt. It was a mindlink, a rare skill possessed only by high-ranking wolves."A mindlink," I muttered, and the others in the woods exchanged glances. Gene pointed out that it might be Corey.Without wasting a moment, I shouted urgentl
CarrieMy heart sank like a heavy stone in my chest, aching for the reunion with my son, Liam. Panic overcame me, rendering me utterly helpless and frozen in time. My mind conjured the most terrifying scenarios, and I couldn't shake the paralyzing fear of losing him at any moment. I clutched my chest, desperately trying to calm my racing heart and regain some semblance of control. I attempted to convince myself that my son was okay and that nothing bad would happen to him. But who was I kidding? Liam and his friend had been kidnapped by an unknown wolf, and the likelihood of him being hurt in the process was a one-in-a-million possibility.“Liam! Liam! Where are you, sweety? It’s Mommy! Liam!”Desperation consumed me as I called out Liam's name in the woods. The thought of Liam being alone and vulnerable in an unfamiliar place tore at my soul. Every passing second felt like an eternity, and all I longed for was to see his sweet face again, to hold him close and assure him that everyth
Jesse"Now, could you please explain how the best werewolf school on the continent allowed two kids to go missing without a trace?"I could sense Jerick's frustration as he made his sarcastic remarks. His face revealed his feelings. Like the rest of us, he too demanded answers regarding the disappearance of Liam and Jaxon.Alpha Christian heaved a sigh, composed himself, and began to calmly explain what had happened."The report is based on our only witness, Carl, one of the freshmen here at Lycan Academy and a friend of Liam and Jaxon. He was the last person Liam and Jaxon were seen with before they went missing.""Another kid was involved?" Gene remarked, his voice tinged with surprise. Alpha Christian continued his story. As Alpha Christian spoke, his tone grew more somber, and he gazed out the window. His eyes reflected the weight of the situation. The room itself seemed to darken as he continued his story."According to Carl, they were strolling around the campus after class. Jax
