CHAPTER 152: THE STRANGER BEFORE ME

MEREDITH’S POV

The shattering of glass makes my head snap up. All my senses come to life, and I shoot out of bed. It came from downstairs; what is going on? Have the vultures found Audrey already? Are they put to kill me? I suppose I am going to find out for myself.

Picking up the blade I had hidden behind my headboard, I approached my door with caution. Careful as to not make a sound, I open the door gently. Poking my head out the door, I tilt my head both left and right for any sign of a vulture. There was none.

Quietly, I make my way down the stairs, my heart pounding harder and harder with every second that passes by.

I mentally prepared myself for the worst. If there were a thousand vultures waiting to behead me, or if Lucia was waiting to finish what I had started, whatever the outcome may be, I was ready for it.

But I will never go down without a fight.

Once my feet make contact with the bottom stairs, I take a look around and frown when I do not find anyone there.
