Meredith’s POV
Blood. The metallic scent fills my nostrils, forcing my eyelids apart. This isn’t my room; where am I?Memories from the previous night come flooding in, and my mouth forms an O shape as the realization dawns on me.Oh, that is right, I am currently in my matrimonial bed. I just spent the night with my newlywed husband. Most girls would be ecstatic to wake up in the arms of their husband after a blissful wedding night. But I am not.I do not even know who this man I call my husband is. My marriage was arranged by my father, and I only met my dear husband once before we said our vows on the altar yesterday.Let me explain. My name is Meredith, the first and only daughter of Oliver Amman. My father is one of the most powerful Alphas in the kingdom of Nuvia. I am sure you are thinking, Oh, I am a princess, and I have the best life. How I wish that were true, but sadly, it is not. And that is all because of one thing.I am an omega. And an omega is the worst thing one can be in this kingdom.Omegas are known to be carriers of a plague that, if they are not killed, will inevitably wipe out the rest of the wolf race. Which is why once an omega is discovered, their penalty is death.Only omegas married to powerful Alphas are spared from this fate. It is believed that the mate bond with an Alpha is the only thing that can provide the diseased wolf with stability.Omegas are hunted down by an elite group known as the Wolffian Council. My father has tried to keep me away from their eyes throughout my childhood, but now that I am older, he can no longer do that. Which is precisely why he arranged this marriage. My father negotiated my marriage with the son of another powerful Alpha, Johnathan Anders. He was the only one who would agree to marry me with my omega predicament without selling me out to the council.By marrying Johnathan, my father offered up some of our lands to his pack. The day I learned of my marriage to Johnathan, I was torn apart.I mean, how should I feel knowing that I will be marrying someone I do not even know? I had to tell my best friend, Idris, the day my father broke the news to me.And let me just say that he was not happy about it in any way.Idris is not just anybody to me; we have been friends ever since we were pups. He was my favorite person in the entire world, and it tore my heart to pieces when I found out he was not my mate. But that did not stop us from trying. He was the only one who really made me feel normal. All my life, I shrank into my shell and avoided everyone because I did not want to be a danger to anyone. But no matter how hard I tried to stay away from Idris, he was always there for me.I fell in love with him.And somehow, I think he has always felt that way for me too. When I broke the news of my arranged marriage to him, the way he looked at me tore me to pieces.“Run away with me,” he had said to me. He picked up my hand and placed it above his beating heart. “Let’s go far away from here. Away from Nuvia and the council. We can go somewhere far and start up a new life, just you and me.”The way he looked at me with so much hope in his eyes made my reply even more painful for both of us.“I am sorry, but I can’t do that to my father. You cannot forget that I am an omega; I need an Alpha to stabilize me. If we run away, I might become highly infectious, and word would get to the council, and they would come looking for me. I am sorry, but it is too risky.”He lets go of my hand, and I see rage take over his features. A growl escapes from his throat, and he shoots to his feet.“I knew you never loved me.”My eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets from his words.“How can you say that? Of course, I love you! Don’t you see I am doing this to protect you as well?”“Well, I do not need your bloody protection! What is the use of protecting me if my heart is drenched in sorrow? Come with me and let us start a new life, or I swear, if you marry someone else, I promise that you will never hear from me again.”My silence was the only answer he needed.I saw him swallow and blink away his tears.“Goodbye, Meredith. I hope you will finally be free of this curse and live the rest of your life the way you have always wanted to.”And with that said, he turned his back on me and left. The next day, as I walked down the aisle, accompanied by the arms of my father, I had to do everything within my power to keep my tears at bay.Everyone was watching; the majority of the guests had no idea I was an omega. I cannot give them a reason to question anything. So, I plastered a smile and said my vows to a complete and utter stranger. The after-party was all a blur in my head, probably because I spent it drowning myself in alcohol. The last thing I remember is Jonathan picking me up from my chair and taking me up to this room.My body jolts out of bed, and I throw the blanket off my body.A sigh of relief escapes my lips when I see that I still have my bra and tights on. He only took off my wedding dress. Well, wasn’t that sweet of him?But wait a minute; something feels odd…I feel something sliding down my neck.Cautiously, I touch my neck. When I take my hand out, my heart drops to the pit of my stomach. The thick crimson that stained my fingertips is all too familiar. The metallic scent fills my nostrils and gives me the urge to gag.But where did this blood come from?I do not feel hurt anywhere. My head turns to the side slowly, and what my eyes fall on makes a scream leave my lips. My body flies out of the bed as tears sting my eyes.No.This can’t be.There is no way the man I married only a few hours ago is lying lifeless on the bed on which I laid with him. Johnathan is lying shirtless with blood spilling out of his open, soulless eyes.A similar crimson trail flows from his lips, ears, and nose.I have heard of this. This is how those infected by an omega die.I can’t believe it; I killed my own husband! My chest fills tighter as a sob erupts from my throat. My vision blurs from my tears as my bloody hands find their way to my hair. What have I done? I don’t understand... Johnathan was supposed to be the one to heal me and stabilize me.How the hell did I end up killing him?My heart practically flies out of my chest when a knock comes from the door.“Johnathan? Are you in there? I do not mean to disturb; Father wants to have a word with you.”I recognize the voice as Luca’s, Johnathan’s younger brother.I can’t let him see Johnathan like this! I shouldn’t be here. When people find out that I am an omega and it is because of me that Johnathan is dead, I will be killed on the spot.“Meredith? Are you in there?” Luca knocks again.Quickly, I throw the doors to Johnathan’s wardrobe open and put on one of his shirts and shorts. My gaze lands on one of his car keys, and I quickly snatch it before making my way towards the window. The doorknob begins to turn aggressively; thank goodness it is locked."Johnathan, open up this door right now, or I am calling father!”I do not have much time, I have to get out of here!I pop my head out of the window; there is no one in sight. Fortunately, because Johnathan’s room is only on the first floor, I think I can make the jump.A surprised yelp leaves me when powerful bangs erupt from the other side of the door. The furious voice of my father-in-law bounces off the walls and fills me with fear.“Meredith? Johnathan! You both have five seconds to open this door before I bring it down!”My heart rate accelerates as I fling my legs over the windowsill.Shutting my eyes, I say a silent prayer before throwing myself out the window. Pain shoots up my left arm like a needle. I try to stop myself from screaming out in pain as I lift myself off the marble floor.A loud bang fills the air, and my blood runs cold.“MY SON!”Shit. My legs begin their sprint towards the garage. I ignore the pain on my left side as I run as fast as I can toward Johnathan’s car.“BRING ME THE HEAD OF MEREDITH AMMAN!” The Alpha’s pained yet powerful voice could be heard across the entire palace. There is finally a bounty on my head.Thankfully, my gaze falls on Johnathan’s car immediately after.Unlocking it, I throw myself inside and start up the engine. Stepping on the gas as hard as I can, I make my way towards the palace gates. My body trembles as I approach the two security men who come into view.Judging by the way they smile at me, I can tell that they have no idea what is going on.Yet."Well, if it isn’t the new bride, where are you off to this early morning?” One of them asks me, and I put on one of the fakest smiles I have ever had to muster.I just hope it is believable.“I'm just feeling a bit homesick. I need to say one last goodbye and grab the last of my stuff,” I say, and I hope they can’t notice the layer of sweat on my head.“Alright then. Drive safely now; we do not want anything to happen to our soon-to-be luna,” he says jokingly, and I let out a dry laugh. He signals for his colleague to open the gate for me, and the second he does, I zoom right out.“No! stop her!” I hear someone shout from a distance, and I apply more weight to the gas.I peep through the rear-view mirror to find a bunch of cars following me.Shit!I take a sharp turn to my left and join the traffic up ahead. I take a few other turns before completely taking another route out if the city.A sigh of relief leaves my breath when I see that I am no longer being followed. I do not know where I am driving to, but I sure as hell will not stop. The next two hours are spent driving down to the middle of nowhere.“Oh no, please not now,” I mutter as Johnathan’s car begins to slow down. I am out of gas.I groan with frustration before hopping out of the car. I am in the middle of nowhere; there are nothing but trees surrounding me. This really is not my day.My nose picks up the scent of roasted meat. My stomach grumbles in response.Okay, feed first; think of what to do later.I follow the sweet scent until I find myself stumbling upon a camp. There are a few tents set out and a little campfire. My gaze shifts to the tray containing the roasted meat, and my mouth waters. Taking in my surroundings, I find no one in sight.Surely these nice campers won't mind if a few go missing.Quickly, I pick up some meat and place it into the large pockets of my shorts before making a run for it. I do not know where I am heading, but I sure as hell will not look back.A tired smile creeps up my lips when I see a small cave up ahead.I practically crawl into it and land on my ass. I take out the meat from my pockets and begin to devour it savagely. Once I am done, a contented burp escapes my lips.I do not know at what point I fell asleep, but the next thing I know, I am opening my eyes to find three Greek gods standing right above me.“Our little thief is finally awake.”Meredith’s POVI have never beheld such beauty before in my entire life. The three men that surrounded me stood tall, but only two of them gave me a chilling aura. The one who had spoken has icy blue eyes piercing right through my soul. A few strands of strawberry blond hair fall above them, making him appear even more handsome. He has on a white shirt that is folded up by the sleeves. We are in the middle of the woods, and there is not even a speck of dirt on his shirt. And judging by the state of their camp site, I could tell that they have been here for a while. His expression is cold, almost unreadable. The way his icy eyes pin me to the spot has a shiver running down my spine. The second man is bronze-skinned and has eyes that remind me of honey. His muscular and tall physique nearly has me salivating. He has on a black tank top that shows off his impressive torso, along with black cargo pants and boots. He looks down at me with his eyebrows a bit furrowed. Curiosity
Meredith’s POV I blink up at him, wondering if I had heard him correctly. Roman has a deep scowl on his face when he asks, “What do you think you are doing, Saul?”The grin on Saul’s lips is evil and filled with so many mysteries. Mysteries that I am certain I do not want to uncover. "Oh, come on, Roman - look at her. I have never seen a more desperate creature before in my entire life! She says she is willing to do anything; aren’t you a little bit curious to see how far she could go?”The way he speaks about me, like I am not even here, is quite humiliating. A part of me wants to snap at him and tell him to address me with a bit of respect, I am royalty after all, but I am certain that if I do that, they won't even give me off to the slavers. They would kill me on the spot. So, I stay silent and take it all in.My gaze shifts to my supposed mate. I cannot believe he has not said anything about our mate bond. And more importantly, why isn’t he reacting to what his friend
Meredith’s POVMarco’s grip on my arm is harsh as he leads me to God knows where. I take the time to gawk at the majestic paintings that hang on the crystal-white walls. Most of it was off landscapes and skies; a few of them were of people I do not know but none of them was one of the three kings. How strange. It makes me wonder: how exactly are there three kings ruling one kingdom? There is so much mystery about this place, and I cannot wait to uncover it all.My eyes fall on a woman standing at the end of the hall. The stoic look on her face suggests that she has not had a good laugh in ages. She appears to be somewhere in her forties; her black hair has a few gray strands that are tied up in a tight bun. It lays much emphasis on her rather large forehead. The lines in the corner of her head show that she has spent most of her life frowning rather than smiling. I suppose it explains why her dark brown eyes are void of emotion.“Here she is, ma’am. The king’s new girl.”The woman
Meredith’s POVAll three alphas are seated in armchairs facing the bed. Saul has his usual evil smirk with mischief twinkling in his eyes. Caelen, as always, is filled with curiosity and excitement. And of course, Alpha Roman, with absolutely no expression on his face, remains stoic as always. “Are you ready, little one?” Saul asks me, and I bite my bottom lip. I do not think I will ever be ready, but I might as well get this over with. So, I nod.“You look a lot better now. You are actually very pretty when you don’t have dirt on your face and try to steal our food,” Caelen remarks, and Saul chuckles. My smile is nervous, and I do not know whether to take that as a compliment or not. My gaze shifts to Roman, but he does not utter a word.Rather, his eyes trail up and down my body. When they stop at my eyes, I feel my wolf stir within me. She is excited; she purrs with delight at the contact. She wants to jump into his arms and never let go. I have to do everything within my power
Meredith’s POVThe breath is knocked out of my lungs as Roman slams me down on the bed. My back makes contact with the soft mattress, and my head dangles over the edge. Roman grabs my neck, forcing me up. His hand around my neck sends tingles through my entire body, and the way he looks at me with so much intensity makes me weak in the knees. He brings his lips to my ear and whispers, “I do not care how badly you are choking. I do not care if you are about to faint or if you see death knocking right outside your door. Under no circumstances will you get my dick out of your mouth; do you understand?” I gulp, but somehow manage to nod.His minty breath fans my earlobe when he says, “I need words.”“I understand, Alpha Roman,” I choke out, and he hums. A yelp escapes my lips when he forces me to my knees. He doesn’t wait another second before forcing my mouth open and shoving his entire length down my throat. My God, I do not think I am going to survive this night. But even with this
Meredith’s POV“The kings have a favorite?” I ask, and Sarah nods in confirmation. I do not know how to feel about that. “You mean all three of them favor Gwen most out of all the women here?” “Not exactly,” she pauses, like there is something she wants to tell me but thinks against it. “All three of them are the most called to the red room. I suppose it is because they have the best bodies out of all of us here.”“Oh, I see.” I trail off. A twinge of jealousy plagues my heart, but I do my best to dismiss it. So what if that girl has a better body than me, and the trio would love to have her more? Why should I care? Maybe it is because my mate is among the triad. I cannot help but wonder: does he actually like her, or does he just go along because his brothers enjoy her?I suppose that is a question I might most likely never get an answer to.“Aside from that, life in the harem is actually pretty sweet. Everything you can ever need is here, and you will hardly ever get bored,” Sara
Meredith’s POVSomething warm trickles down the side of my face; it is sticky and makes my skin crawl. I touch the spot and pull my hand to find blood on my fingertips. What? I am bleeding? But how? I feel no pain.Slowly, I lift my gaze, and a scream leaves my lips.Johnathan’s lifeless eyes are staring right at me. He has blood spilling out of his eyes, nose, mouth, and ears. His skin is completely pale, and the veins on his neck are a bright shade of blue.“Meredith, what have you done?”That voice. My blood freezes as my father’s voice fills my ears. He is standing by the doorway with horror mixed with disappointment swirling within his eyes.“No, papa, wait. It’s not what you think!” I scream as I jump off the bed to run to him.“You killed him,” my father says, and I shake my head in denial. My eyes sting with tears as I watch someone shive my father down to his knees. My father-in-law, Johnathan’s father. His face is a bright shade of red; there is so much rage in his eyes, a
Meredith’s POVThe maid escorting me to the red room is silent. Which I somewhat appreciate; it gives me more time to think. My heart is beating wildly as I think of what I plan on doing tonight. It is risky, and the kings might kill me if I am caught, but damn it, I have to see my father and be sure my dreams are actually just dreams. We arrive at the red room, and the maid spins around to face me. She looks at me with pity in her eyes, and I feel pity for her too. But my excitement is greater. I know this may sound sick, but I actually look forward to my sessions with the kings.“Good luck,” the maid says, taking me off guard. I am about to thank her when she walks away briskly. Okay then.I stare at the door to the red room and take a deep breath before stepping in. The room is empty. None of the kings are present; what a relief! The room has been cleaned up nicely, like absolutely nothing had occurred here just last night. It almost looks like a normal bedroom if one decides to
“Our kingdom has gone through trialing times this past year. We have lost so many of our people, family members, friends, and loved ones. This year will go down in history, and it shall be the last of its kind. A time like this will never step foot into the borders of Nuvia. Enemies tried to rule us; they tried to tear us down, but they couldn’t. Because we are strong. We are not like any other pack; we each have a fighting spirit so unique that has been placed within us. As Queen and Luna of the Nuvia kingdom, I swear to never turn my back on my kingdom ever again, even if it is for just a second. We, not just I, will learn from the mistakes made this year so they never happen again. We will rise from the ashes; we will become stronger, and if anyone tries to destroy this kingdom ever again, even after my reign, we will destroy them from the inside out instead.”Cheers, whistles, and praise filled the air as I concluded my speech. I stared at each and every Nuvian present; it was al
MEREDITH’S POVA gasp leaves my lips as I fill my lungs with oxygen. My eyelids come flying open, and my eyes lock with a pair of familiar sea blue eyes and honey brown eyes.“Welcome back to the living princess,” Saul says, and tears of joy well up in my eyes.“That’s queen to you,” I correct, and the both of them share a glance before chuckling at me. I jump to my feet to wrap both of them in a hug, but my feet wobble, and I lose my footing. Luckily, I land in Caelen’s arms, and he helps to steady me. “Easy now, queen. You just had quite an accident there. You might suffer from a concussion soon,” he says, pointing to my damaged car that is now lying in a ditch. What the hell? How did I even survive that?My eyes travel downwards to inspect my body for injuries. And surprisingly, there was none. But why did I have this burning pain all over? Like I was being beaten over and over again? When the realization dawns on me, my heart plummets to the pit of my stomach. My grip on Caelen’s
ROMAN’S POVI really am an asshole. This isn’t turning out the way I wanted. I thought that now that Meredith’s memories have been wiped out, I can finally have a brand-new chance to make things right. I thought I could fill her with stories that would benefit me.What a fool I was.The girl didn’t even trust me. She knew when I was lying and when I was telling the truth. She was my mate; she knew when I was telling the truth and when I was lying. It didn’t matter if she had lost her memories or not. That damn bond between us was always going to give me away. And my God, was she persistent. Since she didn’t believe me, she was doing everything within her power to uncover the truth. And at this rate, she was going to find out sooner than I would like. A sigh leaves my lips as I run my hand through my hair. Why did she have to be so damn persistent and go wondering around? But then again, I should have known better than to keep Lucia’s body in the same building as Meredith.I should h
MEREDITH’S POVRoman was still sound asleep. He looked so peaceful while he slept, I could stare at him sleep all day. He was even more beautiful while asleep, his features were a lot more relaxed and prominent. And who would have thought he had such incredibly long eyelashes. Lucky.Focus Meredith! It takes a lot of strength, but I manage to tear my eyes away from him. careful not to wake him; I get out of bed as quietly as possible. I do a mini-victory dance once I am out of bed, then tip toe out of the room. My teeth clamp down on my bottom lip as I open the door slowly. My heart nearly flies out of my mouth when the door makes a creak. I shoot Roman a glimpse over my shoulder and say a silent prayer when I see that he is still sound asleep. Finally, I get the door open wide enough to slip out.I make sure to shut the door gently before pumping my fist in the air. Ah, yes, freedom at last. I do another victory dance once again but freeze when I see some maids down the hall starin
MEREDITH’S POVA chill runs up my spine, and I let out a breath through my lips. A mist forms and quickly disappears before my eyes. Every breath I let out, I would see it in the form of a mist. There wasn’t a form of light in this cold, dark room. The only light came from the moon’s gaze slipping through the cracks of a barely opened window. I could tell that I was still in the palace; I do not know how, but I just did. I dared to peek out the window, and my thoughts were confirmed once my eyes locked with the palace gates. But this room... Roman had taken me on a tour around the palace, but this room... I never saw this room. I spun around in a circle, noting the dust, cobwebs, and spiders that filled the room. But what caught my attention was the coffin placed at the center of the room. Surprisingly, it was the only thing in the room that wasn’t covered in dust. It was still clean and shiny, like it had just been recently placed there.I knew I should run; I wanted to. Because wh
MEREDITH’S POV“It is a pleasure to have you back with us, Luna.”Remember your lines! Remember your lines!Presently, I am in a meeting with the newly elected council member of my pack. Roman was seated by my right hand while I was seated at the head of the table. Where I ought to be. The council consisted of seven members, each seated according to their ranks and roles. After waking up yesterday and having Roman fill me in on the things he felt were important for me to remember, I instantly passed out again. I suppose I was having a storage overload and needed time to actually process everything. When I woke up, an entire night had already passed, and I was already getting ready to attend a meeting I knew nothing about. I stared at myself in the mirror for the longest time, trying to recognize the woman that stood before me in this fancy gown and heavy jewelry. Roman came in shortly after dressed in an all-black suit with a gold cross around his neck and a gold watch on his wris
MEREDITH’S POVMy goodness, I felt quite sore all over.My lips part to release a tired yawn. Goodness, I was so tired. And I was quite hungry too. It feels like I haven’t eaten in days, but I know I ate just yesterday. But what did I eat?” I do not remember. Come to think of it, where did I eat, and what is my favorite food? What was yesterday? There was nothing but questions that filled my head. Questions that didn’t have an answer. How strange.Slowly my eyelids peel open, and I am met with a pretty chandelier. I stare at it for some time before finally sitting up. A groan leaves my lips as I stretch my legs. This bed was quite comfy, was it mine? I do not even know. My eyes dart in every direction, and I am filled with more questions. Like, where am I? And whose room is this? Was it mine or was it someone else’s?So many questions...Throwing my legs off the edge of the bed, I rise to my feet but stumble a bit. “Woah,” I mutter as I try to find my balance. Once I do, I twirl ar
ROMAN’S POVI stare at Meredith’s unconscious body with a blank face. That is one thing I was blessed with. I could be dying of pain, and my face would still be this way. Hard as stone and cold as ice. Tears still spilled out of her shut eyes, and the sight of them did something to me.I can’t believe that this was actually happening. I just hope that she will find it in her heart to forgive me someday. But this... all of this was just for her. I hope she will get to see it.A loud cackle snaps me out of my thoughts, and my head tilts to Lucia, who had her head tilted back as she laughed wholly. “Oh, what a glorious day! This has to be one of the best days of my life. I remember meeting you for the first time, and you swore to defeat me. You had so much hatred and determination set in your heart, but where has that gotten you now? Absolutely nowhere!” She laughs in Meredith’s sleeping face, and my eyelid twitches. She was way too close to Meredith for comfort. Her lips were barely a
MEREDITH’S POVFight! Get up! Move! Do something! These were the words that constantly sang repeatedly in my mind. But my body wouldn’t respond. I can’t believe that the moment Lucia told me to sleep, my body just did so without wasting a second. How was that even possible?I was awake, but my eyes wouldn't open. I was well aware of what was happening around me, but from a distance. Once again, my soul had left my body and watched the entire scene play out before me with a broken heart.I can’t believe that Roman has been helping Lucia all along. I thought that he had been with her the other night just to spite me. But going as far as stabbing his own brothers and helping her take over my kingdom was something I never would have imagined, not even in my wildest dreams. This... this was absolutely unforgiveable. Roman clothed my naked body before any of the vultures could come in before doing the same for himself. Once he was fully dressed, he asked Lucia, “What do you mean she will
