Chapter 3
"You should be supposed to treat me well," she said almost in a whisper."That's what I did," he replied while serving her breakfast."You're not!" she answered weakly but some tendons were coming out of her neck. She got really annoyed, knowing that she'll be stuck in this place."My patience is not very high so don't try me," he warned. She was suddenly shocked from what she heard. He's threatening her and he's not joking about it. He says that without batting his eyelashes. She swallowed hard and was more annoyed."Your father will call any time soon. He will explain to you why I have to bring you here."She didn't say a word and just rolled her eyes on him. She then smelled the roasted chicken that he put on the table. Her stomach growls. She hadn't eaten since last night and she couldn't deny that she was really hungry."Eat," he ordered and put food on the plate in front of her. She bit her lower lip. She wanted to be stubborn but she was really hungry. Her lips quirk up as she looks at him sharply then she digs into her plate. He also just eats silently until they both finish their meal. Then he stood up and put away what they both ate."I don't have my stuff," she said suddenly. He faced her and looked at her from head to toe. She felt as if he was undressing her because of his murderous looks at her. He squinted a bit then headed to the kitchen. He immediately returned and gave her water in a plastic bottle."I brought some of your stuff. It's in the trunk of the car." Her eyes narrowed."Ah, so what you're saying is that you're so ready and you even bothered to bring my stuff," her tone was full of sarcasm."Your maids, they packed your clothes. If you still need anything, I'll buy it for you in the village."She got even more pissed because of what she heard."This is a kidnapping! Don't you know that? You brought me here unwillingly and you abused me last night," she said emphatically. She's clenching her jaw and he did too."First, I never kidnapped you. I'm not that desperate. Second, I don't want to hear your whine like what you did last night. I prefer a different noise..." He stopped for a moment and looked at her again then ended up staring at her chest."You filthy bastard," she said angrily and stood up. She left the house and went to the car. She opened the door. Gladly, it was not locked. She searched for her pack of cigarettes but she couldn't find it. She kicked the tire of the car in annoyance."Ugh!" She growled loudly and kicked the car tire again. She wanted to scream but she controlled herself. She also doesn't want to cause a scandal even though some houses are far away. She frustratedly brushed her hair using her fingertips."Gabrielle, what? Where's Kathleen?" Gabrielle's mother asked. When she heard that, she turned her back to the house. She saw Gabrielle turn her mother inside the house. She felt annoyed at this moment. She really wanted to go home. It's not that she's overreacting but how can she be calm if she has no idea why her father exiled her to a distant province. She bit her lower lip. She opened the car door again and looked for her bag. When she looked around, she found it under the seat in the backseat. She immediately took it and immediately looked for her cellphone. But she was immediately disappointed when it wasn't there. She was even more annoyed because her cigarette was not in her bag either. Gabrielle really confiscated it!"Ugh! This is unfair!" she whines in nowhere. She got out of the car again."Are you looking for something?" Gabrielle said while crossing his arms. He squinted and narrowed his eyes at her. She crossed her arms."Where are my cell phone and my cigarettes?""I told you already. Smoking is prohibited. I hate seeing you smoking. Speaking of your cell phone, I kept it.""And how do you think I'm supposed to run my business? Email? Are you okay? You don't want me to even use my cell phone!" Her eyes squint again in anger. He sighed violently and stared intently at her."I am warning you Mae, I don't have a lot of patience for people like you," he said then turned his back on her. She sighed and swallowed.Shit! Her brain was screaming but she seemed to be speechless. It's like she swallowed her tongue again. She was stunned too by the way he nicknamed her. Ugh! It's getting on her nerves. She doesn't even want to be called by her second name. She prefers Kath or Kathleen, but not Mae! She pulled herself out of her reverie. She angrily followed the man and pulled his arm. He faces her. His thick eyebrows met."Never call me Mae!" she snorted. She makes faces at him. He turned his back on her and went back to the car.She felt so annoyed. Felt like her body was about to release fire because of her anger. She clenched her fists in annoyance. She couldn't think of anything else but to run away but how could she do that. Looking at her surroundings. She didn't even know where that road ended! She closed her eyes tightly. She breathed deeply."Think Kath! Don't be a fool now!" She chastised herself. She walked back and forth until Gabrielle approached her."What!?" she yelled. He shut her up and gave her his cell phone. Someone is calling on his cellphone and speaking of the caller? It was her Daddy Ken. She immediately took the cell phone and distanced herself from Gabrielle."Papa! What are you doing!? Why did you exile me to a distant province!? Have I been a disobedient child to you!? Dad, you know ever since I was a child, I never give you a headache, even buying my own luxurious stuff, I never get every penny from you! I earn those things! Why are you doing this to me!?"She almost had no brakes to speak until she was stopped by the laughter she heard from the other line."Baby, you've only been there for one day in the province, and you're already in a hysterical state? Relax, love," her Papa said calmly.Chapter 21A FEW minutes later, Janette finally arrived. Kathleen was sitting in the living room, waiting for her, and Janette quickly handed her the outfit she brought. It was a red dress.“Whoa, this is way too sexy,” Kathleen commented when she realized it was backless and had revealing cuts on both sides.Janette scratched her head awkwardly.“Sorry. They ran out of uniforms, so I had to find something else. Hehe...”Kathleen chuckled at how cute Janette looked.“It’s fine. I wear stuff like this when I go to bars. My only problem now is whether Gabrielle will let me wear it.”“Oh my gosh! I’m doomed! Ugh!” Janette whined, her shoulders slumping.“Just tell him you didn’t know. Say it’s mine and there were no uniforms left to wear. Sounds good?” Kathleen smiled reassuringly.Janette’s face lit up and she threw her arms around Kathleen.“Oh my gee! Thank you so much, sister Kathleen! You’re the best!” she squealed happily.“Alright, enough with the hugs. Let me go change before we’
Chapter 20AFTER eating, she took another dip in the river with Janette. Not long after, Gabrielle followed them and started swimming as well. And she had no idea what on earth was happening to her. She suddenly found herself staring at Gabrielle’s body. It felt like she was gawking at him. Janette suddenly snapped her out of it."You’re zoning out!" Janette said, laughing. Kathleen quickly covered Janette’s mouth."Ssh! What are you talking about?" She feigned ignorance, even though she was obviously caught in the act.Janette pulled her hand away."I saw you! You were staring at big brother Gabrielle’s body!" Janette teased, emphasizing Gabrielle’s name. Kathleen covered her mouth again."Ssh! I was not staring at him!" she denied firmly.Janette just laughed louder."Oh, that’s not what I saw. But don’t worry, I won’t tell big brother Gabrielle. Unless… he caught you himself!" Janette teased, bursting into laughter again.Kathleen squinted her eyes in annoyance. She just rolled her
Chapter 19EARLY THE NEXT MORNING, Kathleen was startled awake by Janette’s shrill voice. The younger girl was lightly knocking on the bedroom door."Ate Kathleen! Wake up already!"Kathleen groaned and sat up abruptly. Gabrielle was no longer beside her, as expected—he always woke up earlier than she did. She sighed, hearing Janette's voice again."Sister Kathleen! Are you still asleep? Get up! We're having breakfast by the river, according to mother Susana!" Janette called again from outside her room."Alright! I'm up, I'm up!" she replied, having no choice but to get out of bed.She walked to the door and opened it, revealing Janette’s beaming face."Oh? Morning," she greeted."Good morning! Don't forget to bring an extra set of clothes. You might want to take a bath in the river. I'll wait for you outside, okay? Hurry up!" Janette said excitedly.Kathleen couldn’t help but smile at her enthusiasm."Alright, I'll be right there. Just let me fix my bed first.""Okay! But be quick, o
Chapter 18"Have you ever eaten this before, Kathleen?" Janette suddenly asked."No! And not a chance," Kathleen replied, shaking her head."You're so picky," she heard Gabrielle mutter. She just frowned at him and moved a little farther away. Janette might start screaming again and accidentally throw another frog at her. After they finished cleaning the frogs, Gabrielle set them aside. He washed his hands, stood up, and left them, heading straight to the kitchen."Are we really going to eat that, Janette? Are you serious? Is there nothing else?""I don't know. But big brother Gabrielle said that’s what we're having," Janette answered.Kathleen's eyes widened, and she quickly went to find Gabrielle. The back door was locked, so she went around to the front door and rushed inside. When she got to the kitchen, she found Gabrielle busy cooking."Aren't you going to buy me something else to eat? You know I’ve never eaten that. Ever!" She emphasized the last word."Nope. I won’t buy you an
Chapter 17Kathleen really enjoyed the street foods she ate. Aside from balut, Janette also bought other snacks being sold along the roadside. Good thing, she liked all the street food that Janette recommended to her.She had already drunk two bottles of beer, but she wasn’t tipsy yet."Let's go home. I'm tired," said Gabrielle.Janette immediately frowned, but she didn’t protest."Sure," she simply agreed, knowing that if she complained, she might get scolded. They went home, and on the way, Janette fell asleep in the back seat."She's totally drunk," Kathleen commented with a wide grin."You seem like you're having fun," Gabrielle replied."I am having fun. At least, for a while, I can forget my problems, right? Especially the way you keep bossing me around and controlling my life?" she said, rolling her eyes.Gabrielle scoffed at her words."I'm not controlling your life. My job is just to keep you safe.""Yeah! What a great excuse! Of course!""Are you drunk?" he asked, furrowing
Chapter 16"SISTER KATHLEEN, it's time to eat!" Janette called out to her. That snapped her back to reality. She quickly left the room and acted normal as she headed to the kitchen. She bit her lower lip when she saw that she was about to sit next to Gabrielle. Darn, Kathleen! Why are you suddenly feeling awkward now? What's wrong with you? Her mind screamed. She closed her eyes tightly and inhaled deeply. Maybe she was just overthinking.Gabrielle noticed her still standing, so he moved slightly to make space for her. She then silently sat beside him without even glancing in his direction.Aling Susana served her food, and soon, everyone started eating. She started eating too, but she felt like she was losing her appetite. Unconsciously, she let out a sigh."What's wrong?" Gabrielle suddenly asked. She lifted her head and quickly shook her head. That’s when she realized that they were the only ones left at the dining table. She despaired. She had been too lost in thought to notice he
