Charlotte's POV

"She's really beautiful, and I think I already like her," Ryder said, followed by a chuckle from Alex.

"Did you tell her that?"

"Yeah, I told her I would let you know that you got me a beautiful mom."

"Oh, really? What was her reaction then?" Alex questioned, and silence fell in the room. I took a few steps closer to the room and eavesdropped on them through the slightly ajar door.

"Ummm, I really don't know, Daddy, but she seemed startled to see me. Her expression wasn't really nice, but I know she's nice," I heard him say, and after recalling how startled I was when I saw him, I facepalmed.

"She seemed startled to see you?"

"Yeah, I don't really know why, though."

"You both have met before, so I think you startled her. Maybe you snuck up behind her, and she got startled. She doesn't like surprises."

"Really?"

"Yeah."

"Then what's the fun in it?"

"I don't know. She's your mom, so you can ask her. Or are you scared of talking to her?"

"Am I supposed to be scared?"

"No.

Charlotte's POVI lifted my gaze and briefly stared at her, but she was concentrated on what she was doing. If she knew what respect was, she wouldn't have intentionally dropped Alex's son's food."Sure," I replied and stood up from the floor."No worries. I'm in a hurry to leave, so I can't prepare something he could eat again. I guess you'll have to do it yourself," she said and thrust the tray into my hand. She flipped her hair and smiled slyly at me before she turned and walked away from me, swaying her hips.I watched her retreating figure, and when she was out of sight, a scoff escaped my lips."If only she knew I wasn't interested in being a Luna," I murmured under my breath, not pleased by what just happened, but I didn't let it show."Ryan, have you finished?" I asked as I approached the table, and he nodded."That's correct. Now you'll have a very good grade," I said after going through his work. He had an excellent, but it wasn't bold enough. Charlotte's POVI couldn't even blink my lashes when he waved his hand in front of my face."Are you okay?" he asked, and I responded with a loud scoff. I didn't expect it to be that loud, but I was still shocked."Are you kidding me? Am I supposed to be okay?" I asked, and he only smiled."What about your dad? Wasn't he responsible?""I can't tell you anything about him, I'm sorry," he replied, and it was obvious he didn't want to say anything about his dad. Now I was even more curious to know who the father of this handsome man is and why he would do such a thing to his son."Are we supposed to be keeping secrets from each other as mates?""What kind of mates are we?" he asked almost immediately, and I remained silent."Answer me, Charlotte. What kind of mates confess without hesitation that she doesn't love her mate? How can we then share secrets when our relationship isn't solid? It only ends with betrayal, hurt, and heartbreak, unless the one hesitating agrees to love. If not, ou

Charlotte's POVI stretched out of bed, yawning exhaustingly, but stopped and stared at Alex, who was typing on a laptop, his eyes focused on the screen. He had been working all through the night, so seeing him working this early morning made me sad."Alex, won't you give work a break and rest? You know your health matters as an Alpha," I said as I shifted closer to the table, but I was still lying on the bed."I'm trying to complete this. It's very important," he said absentmindedly and remained focused on what he was doing. He didn't even turn to look at me."Alex, give it a break, please. If anything happens to you, the pack and your company will be handed over to someone else," I complained, but he continued typing."Charlotte," he called and paused, reading a long scroll. When he looked back at the screen without taking a break from typing, he continued, "Are you trying to distract me?""If you stress yourself and die early, you know another man will come and take me as his wife.

Charlotte's POV"At least tell me why. If it's something I can solve, I will," he said with a low voice, but I shook my head."You're too good for me, Alex, that's why you should send me away. I've been traumatized since childhood; everything about me has no meaning. I don't know how to love because my feelings have been traumatized. My whole life is traumatic; I'm trauma itself, so please understand," I explained, and he remained silent. He was staring down at me; I could feel his gaze on me, and all I wished for was for the ground to open up and swallow me.I slowly raised my head and watched as he climbed out of bed and began walking away.Maybe that's what I had expected him to do, but that wasn't what he was doing. My eyes widened when he began hitting his fist angrily into the wall, obviously mad, and didn't mind that he was hurting himself."Alex, please stop," I cried when I saw the wall stained with blood, and his fist was covered with blood, but he didn't stop and kept throw

Charlotte's POVI wasn't expecting to hear what she said, so I only stared blankly, before managing to arch a brow."What are you talking about?""Ever since you were locked in here, Ariana has been all over Alpha. But last week when I was cleaning the living room, I saw them kiss," she whispered, and my eyes widened."K.. kiss?" I stuttered, and she nodded."Please don't tell anyone that I told you this, but I want you to beware of Ariana. She has been friends with our Alpha since childhood, and everyone thought they would turn out to be mates. It came as a shock when you appeared to be his mate instead. Her aim right now must be to make him impregnate her first, and if that happens, Luna, you won't be a Luna anymore."I tried to hide how hurt I was, but I couldn't. I know I've hurt Alex, but I didn't intend to do that. I tried making him understand; instead, he turned out to be mad at me."Why should I believe you?""I would never lie to you, Luna. I thought she was about to leave, but instead, she peeked outside, before she closed the door and walked back into the room."Luna, please lay on the bed, someone is coming," she said hastily, and I immediately stood up from the floor and laid on the bed.I hadn't even laid properly on the bed before two of the guards appeared in front of the door.Their cold eyes scanned us and the room we were in.After standing there for a long while, I released the air that I didn't even know I was holding after they left."They came to check on you," she whispered after they left. It isn't as though I was in love with Alex, so why was I feeling this way? Have I been deceiving myself all this while that I wasn't in love with him? Could this feeling of betrayal that washed over me still be because of the marking? Then screw this mark I have on me, because I hate this feeling.I watched as Alex stared down at her without saying anything, and I could only imagine one thing as his thoughts, the perfect lady to be his Luna.I scoffed, and I guess I interrupted their moment because their heads snapped to where I was.
