Two

Nick sat upright and sighed. When the security had called that his wife was in the estate, Nick had made arrangement with two of his workers to dress in a provocative manner and to act that way; he needed to make sure that Nita had no reason to come back to him. He knew she wasn’t going to give up unless he did something drastic.

When he first met Nita, he already knew he might end up developing feelings for his wife, but he never knew it was going to be that extreme. So, when the doctor told him about his illness and the possibility of dying young, he decided it was better to break Nita’s heart now than watch her watch him die.

“You can go.” He told the maids that scurried off the bed immediately.

He got up and dressed up before calling his personal assistant.

“Make sure there’s someone always following my wife from a distance and always give me report of her where about? I want to know everything going on with her.”

Joel, his personal assistant answered affirmatively. He had no idea why his boss had divorced his wife when he cared that much for her.

Nita hadn’t brought back the divorce letter, so it bothered him a bit. He needed her to sign it, so she could be free from him and his strange illness. Wanting to forget all this was happening, he went to his bar to drink.

“What’s wrong with you?” A voice said causing him to look up from his cup.

Sean stood at the door glaring at him. “Are you trying to drown yourself?”

Nick snickered, “I wish. Nita’s gone.”

Sean frowned, “Don’t tell me you actually gave her the divorce paper.”

He nodded.

Sean cursed, “I told you not to. You don’t even know if this illness will really manifest, you made a rash decision.”

He shook his head and down another cup of alcohol.

“You think I did. I rather break her heart now than watch her see me go through the process of losing my memories, looking frail, losing my appetite, and then losing my life. Do you think Nita would be fine doing those processes? She would be fine right now. She might be hurt for few months, but after that she would be fine.”

He sat beside Nick and shared a glass of alcohol with him.

Just then Nick’s phone rang. He wasn’t in the mood to speak with anyone, but when he saw it his personal assistant, he picked up.

“Sir, I have news about your wife.”

Nick’s was at alert, “What about my wife?”

“The doctor called to inform you that your wife ran from the hospital while receiving treatment. He said she needed to rest.”

Nick was confused. It hadn’t been long since he left her at home, so how could she be admitted that soon. Was the shock much for her that she lost consciousness?

“Alright, I’ll call Doctor Jones.”

Immediately, he hung up with Joel, and he placed a call to the doctor. It was their family doctor, and he had been instructed to inform him about his family health unless it had to be confidential or the patient requested for it to be so.

“Doctor Jones, What’s wrong with my wife?”

He hadn’t bothered about pleasantries.

Doctor Jones laughed through the phone, “Good day to you, too, Mr. Grimm. My congratulations are in order. Your wife is pregnant and needs complete rest as she had gone through a lot of stress…”

But Nick could hardly hear what he was saying anymore.

His wife was pregnant.

There was a child in her when she had walked in to see him with two women.

He hit his hand on the table, making it rattle and some contents in the cup spilt in the floor.

He had given her more reason to be stressed when all she needed was complete bed rest. He cut the phone and made another call to his personal assistant.

“Find my wife.”

He didn’t wait for his response as he picked up his coat and car key.

Sean ran after him, “Where are you going to?”

He didn’t stop as he spoke, “Home. I need to find Nita. She left here not quite long, but she can’t be anywhere but home.”

“What’s going on?”

Finally, he stopped with a frown on his beautiful face.

“I think I really messed up. Nita is pregnant.”

He didn’t have to say more; Sean understood perfectly. They both ran towards his car and drove off to his house.

It was the fastest he had driven in his life while trying to stay in touch with Joel. Joel hadn’t called, meaning he hasn’t seen his wife, yet.

When he got home, he started screaming her name. Most of the maids were too scared to near him, until one of them gathered the courage to tell him Nita wasn’t in the house.

While searching for her, he saw the brown envelop on the floor. He picked it up and opened it in a hurry. It was just as he had given it to her, there was no signature, no sign that she had opened it. He ran towards her bedroom.

In their six months of marriage, they had shared different bedrooms, but it had been closed to each other.

He sighed when he saw that every of her properties where still intact. Her clothes were still in the closet; her books were close to her bed just like she loved it.

So, where could she be?

She had nowhere else to go, and that was the reason he had planned to leave this house to her as alimony, but now she was nowhere to be found.

Where could his wife be?
