Remilia's POV.
I continued my statement despite the murmurs, I wasn't going to give in to his manipulation, although I knew there was a little I could do to change their minds. But I know one day, the truth will out.
“Eryndor finalized things with the rogue and received payment in a form I don’t know about. When he was about to leave the scene, I confronted him and he attacked me after threats didn’t work. In defense of myself, I slashed at him with my knife and injured him. He called for the guards and got me arrested even though he was the one who attacked me first. This is my testimony, Council.”
Immediately I was done, the room erupted in chaos. Shouts and yells as the Council members tried to talk over themselves and make their point known. As they argued, my eyes found Eryndor across the room and a slow smirk spread across his face. I forced my lips to mimic the motion even though it hurt.
After what seemed like ages, Marcus’ hand shot out and grabbed a gavel that had gone unnoticed by me before. He brought it down with a resounding bang and yelled for order. The rowdy Council quieted.
“Remilia, the Council has passed their verdict. Are you ready to hear this?”
I nodded calmly.
Marcus nodded. “Ten days from now, you will be executed at the pack square, by hanging. You will return to your cell and be held there at the dungeons. Any attempt by you to escape will result in your immediate and timely execution by any method seen fit by our Alpha. This is in accordance with the Nightborne book of laws, Section B, Paragraph Six. You can have it read to you if you wish to confirm that justice is being served. Do you?”
I slowly shook my head and Eryndor ordered that I be taken away. My guards returned and I was guided off the podium. It was as I expected.
Oddly, I didn’t feel any anxiety towards my fate. Yes, Eryndor thought he had won, but he made a crucial mistake. He should’ve had me executed immediately. He obviously doubted a great deal of what a woman desperate for freedom would do. And even less so, he had no idea what it meant if that woman had children she had to return to.
I sat down in my cell, quiet, moody, the humming of the Nightsword slowly and quietly vibrating against my entire self. It was probably its way of letting me know that I am not alone in this, some sort of companionship.
I sighed and placed my head on the cold hard floor, the stench of the cell becoming a normal scent that my brain was starting to omit. There wasn't anything I could do as of now, I knew that, I closed my eyes as I succumbed into a world of dreams and nightmares.
My dream wasn't necessarily a dream, but more like a memory that was wrought from my subconscious, my life how it had been before today. I was a bright young girl, a little obnoxious
even for my own liking. I was someone who was cursed with knowledge and it seemed I am the only one cursed with it.
Everyone loved me and my world was filled with an indescribable sense of perfection. I always wanted to be perfect at everything I set my mind to and it made me keep inwards to myself. If not for the fact that I had a likable personality, I probably wouldn't have any friends.
When I met Eryndor, I was overjoyed. He seemed to me my other half; my mate, a love that was wrought from the very foundations of Fate itself. However, I soon began to notice that he had a little bit of sour heart towards me. It was due to these reasons that I decided to have my babies in secret and not let him know I was pregnant at all in the first place.
I didn't want those kids living life as royals and not knowing what the entire world entailed. I wanted them free, free of the gnawing hands of this cunning and manipulative world. It was after I left them; a very sad decision I had to make that I focused myself on finding the legendary Artefact that was written in our myths.
I drove my heart and soul into finding this artifact and when I did, I was shocked to find out I was its bonded wolf. It bonded with me, soul, body and mind and it became a companion for me. It blended completely with my wolf and it spoke with its voice.
My life was going rather fantastic afterwards but Eryndor drove further from me, his heart had found something else to gnaw on. I always wondered what was wrong when I one day found him reading from a book. The book contained an old prophecy. A prophecy that was said to be written for the first Female Alpha of the Nightborne pack.
Whilst I dreamt, I saw an old woman sitting on a chair, narrating the prophecy back to her. She heard it in an ethereal and ancient voice as if it was meant for her . “When the sun goes down and the moon doth shine, So shall she rise with her seed but thrice. With strength and cunning she shall claim her place. And lead the children of the night to a place of grace.
I saw the hollow within the voice’s intentions and felt how it came from the past. “And trials and tribulations she shall overcome. With the outcast son, her companion. And though forgotten she shall return. With fear and trembling and tremor and blood.”
I woke up in a bead of sweat and glanced around, then I heard multiple footsteps begin to approach her cell. I stood up immediately, ready for anything that was to come. However I relaxed when the person approached me. I sighed and glanced at him. “Have you come here to gloat?”
Remilia's POV. Eryndor stood before the cell, smiling at me with a glint of contempt in his eyes. He smiled gingerly, shaking his head and sighing. “Why did you choose this?” He asked. “I offered you friendship but you spat in my face,” he sighed.“Rather the world burns down around me than I accept to be friends with one who would betray his own people, are you not even ashamed of one bit of yourself?” I demanded from him. I felt betrayed but it wasn't because he turned against me, I already sensed that a long time ago. I felt betrayed because I thought he was at least a man of character but as it would turn out, he was just like any other greedy bastard! I felt glad at the moment though that I didn't allow my children to grow up in his presence. They would have been corrupted by these habits of self centeredness and greed. I still glared at him as he began to speak. “Misery, misery, misery, that is all you have chosen for yourself, an eternity of suffering. I offered you a chance
Chapter 6Remilia's POV.My heart pounded as I sprinted through the forest, my feet pounding against the damp earth. The moon cast shadows, brightening the path for my frantic escape, which I was immensely grateful for.I had to put as much distance between herself and Nightborne Pack's territory as possible. The memory of Eryndor's snarling face still haunted me. His eyes, once filled with warmth and admiration, now burned with hatred and ambition. How could I have been so foolish not to notice his annoying attitude? I always knew he was jealous but never imagined that he was going to take it this far. It wasn't my fault in any way that I was a genius. I had tried to numb my intelligence so that it didn't rub off wrongly on him, but guess who ended up with the shorter end of the stick? Me. I shuddered internally recalling the night he had taken control, ousting me as alpha. The pain was too much for me to handle but I guess I was foolish enough not to understand.I even went on to
Remilia's POV.I squatted silently as I listened to the tail end of a conversation that filled me with feelings of utmost betrayal. I remained motionless as Eryndor – Alpha Eryndor, also known as my lover – sold out his pack. He said his goodbyes to the rogue he was talking to and waited a few minutes more for the man to leave. The crunch of his feet on the dry leaves of the woods alerted me that he was about to leave, his act of treason complete. I stood just as silently as I had waited, and just when he was about to walk past the tree behind which I’d been hiding, I stepped into his path, my expression blank but with enough traces of anger left. The fleeting look of shock that crossed his face told me he now knew that I’d heard if not all, then a good part of his conversation with the rogue. He recovered quickly. “Remilia”, he said, “what brings you here?”I fixed my gaze on him. “What just happened, Eryndor?”“What do you mean, Darling?”The intensity of my glare increased. “You’v
Remilia's POV.Where did you get that?”, he growled. His voice overlapped with a deeper, hoarser one. That of his wolf. I settled into my stance against him. “It doesn’t matter, Eryndor. Stop what you’re doing now.” “Give it to me. Now.”I wasn’t scared to use it and I knew he could see that, but he came at me anyway. I should’ve been able to defend more easily, should have been able to match him more easily. But the truth was that my desire for truth held no candle to the evil desperation of a power hungry man. He moved with practiced speed and grace, dodging each one of my attacks and still managing to get in hits despite my having the superior – and only – weapon. I knew it was over when as the blade sliced across his face, he leaned in, instead of backing away. In a flash, a stunning blow cracked against my skull, blackening my vision and sending me slumping. My fingers loosened against NightSword and it clattered away from me. Eryndor’s eyes were dilated, his canines dripping
Remilia's POVIt was out of the question. I couldn’t be seen with an ancient mythical weapon. I doubted it would help whatever case Eryndor brought before the Council. I was still contemplating my escape when approaching footsteps had me stiffening and moving away from the bars. Two guards conversed in low voices outside my cell and moments later, the same guard who had thrown me in appeared in front of the bars. I raised my head, shooting him a tear-streaked glare. He inserted a key into the lock and I shot up. “What’s happening?”, I demanded as the guards entered the cell and roughly pulled me to my feet. “Where are you taking me?”I let them pull me out of the cell with minimal resistance. “The Council had demanded your presence in the Alpha’s Hall”, one of them informed me gruffly.“What”, NightSword pulsed in my mind. “What?”, I asked loudly, trying to dig in my heels now. The guards simply pulled me harder and my feet slid against the ground uselessly. “That’s not possible! Th
