Chapter 9 Jewel was feeling a little frightened and jumpy once Nick dropped her and Steven off at Night Light. She was silent as she allowed Steven to take her by the hand and lead her through the club. They stepped through a door labeled ‘PRIVATE’ and went down a long hallway. Steven opened the door and let her go in first before stepping in and closing the door behind them. The sound made her tense up more than she was before and she took a deep breath trying to calm herself down. Steven was so wired now. He was convinced if someone plugged one of the huge speakers downstairs into him, he could supply enough power to make it work. What had him so uptight was he now knew her father really was an ass and that he was dealing with werewolves. He wanted to ask Jewel about it but she was so jumpy, the slightest bit of noise out of the ordinary would probably send her running. He decided to wait and let her break the ice first. He didn’t have to wait long. “So it’s done?
Chapter 10 Hearing a door shut upstairs, Kat quickly poured Quinn a huge cup of coffee and sprinkled some of the mixture into it. To cover up any after taste or smell, she used the nutmeg creamer that Quinn had always been fond of. Sitting the cup across the counter in front of her, she sat quietly sipping her own cup and listened to the stomping get closer. ‘If he walks any heavier, he’ll fall through the floor and into the basement.’ Kat thought and smirked at the visual. The kitchen door swung open and Quinn entered. For some reason, Kat half expected to hear trumpets and see a glowing halo around him like something from a cheesy super hero movie or cartoon. Kat paused with her cup half way to her mouth realizing she wasn’t completely sober yet. Yep, she’d need more coffee before this was done. Quinn looked around the kitchen and checked the windows and door from his vantage point. There weren’t any signs of Kat trying to get out of the house. This did make him feel
Chapter 11 Quinn sat across from Kat at the kitchen table drinking yet another cup of coffee, minus Grandmother Kathryn’s truth serum. Everything was silent except the sound of the radio playing soft music in the background. The news had just gone off which told Quinn the time was just a few minutes after seven in the evening. “So, what do we do now?” Kat asked with a tilt of her head. Quinn set down his cup and folded his arms on the table. “I say you move in with me first, and then we’ll deal with the rest as it comes.” Kat frowned, “I hope you’re not going to try and stop me from working at Moon Dance.” Quinn blinked, “Actually, I hadn’t even thought about asking you that. I was thinking more along the lines of when we’re going to have time to get away. With the murders and the vampire threat hanging over us… it might be a while.” Kat smiled thinking along the lines of a true honeymoon, “I wanna go to Hawaii.” “Demanding little thing aren’t you?” he gave
Chapter 12 Quinn sped down the road, running a few stop signs along the way. Alicia’s call had made him very concerned and he wanted to make sure his mate was all right. His cell phone rang, nearly making him run off the road. He picked it up to glare at it for a moment. “What is it, Nick?” Quinn demanded. “Alicia was just here looking for Kat so I let her in. I asked around and no one has seen Kat at all tonight. I called thinking maybe she was still with you and Alicia didn’t know it.” Quinn swore and closed the cell phone. Before Nick could call him back, he called Dean. Dean picked up his phone when it rang. “Speak.” “Dean, Kat is missing and I need you to help me find her,” Quinn said as chills raced across his flesh. “Something’s wrong.” Dean looked over at the tunnel he’d warded against any vampires making their way back into the church. He’d been in the church basement for a few hours now reinforcing the barrier and making sure it would stick. He was
Chapter 13 Alicia knelt down in front of her dresser, then slowly pulled the bottom drawer all of the way out and laid it on the floor beside her. Holding her breath, she carefully lifted a small leather-bound book out of the hiding place. She still remembered the night she had found it. That was the last night she ever saw her father alive. Her mind flashed back to that night and she suppressed a shudder. She had come home from boarding school for Christmas. Everyone else was at the church for midnight mass but she had waited on her father. He’d forgotten all about her as he sat behind his desk on the phone with Malachi. Even as a child, she had felt his anger growing by the minute. The things he’d said about vampires that night had stayed in her nightmares for years… that a vampire had murdered Carlotta Santos thirty years ago… not him. He and Malachi argued something fierce but it had ended with her father confessing his love for Carlotta and his hatred for the vampire.
Chapter 14 Zachary stretched his arms listening to the security feed from Moon Dance. It was the usual stuff and boring enough to make him want to join Trevor in dreamland. The storm brewing outside wasn’t helping his cause to stay awake either. He looked over at his friend and shook his head. Trevor had gotten himself mixed up with a really weird bunch this time. Usually it was go in, find the bad guy, ‘fix’ the situation, and then move on to the next assignment. “You always were a pain in the ass,” Zachary said fondly to Trevor’s sleeping form. Zachary and Trevor had been two of the first recruits for P.I.T. and it had taken them a while to gain the level of friendship they had. At first they’d been at each other’s throats. Trevor had physically attacked him in almost every animal form there was and he’d singed Trevor’s hair more than once. “Everyone available, get your asses to Grandmother Kathryn’s grave right now!” Zachary jumped in surprise and pressed the

Chapter 1 Quinn Wilder looked around Warren's office not knowing if finding out who was behind the murders was a good thing or a bad thing. Most of the shouting match was over… or at least he hoped it was. He glanced at Kane now that the vampire had his back toward the room. Kane hadn’t bothered to defend himself… Michael had done a good job of that for him. He should have been mad at the blonde vampire and he should apologize in the same breath, but right now all he felt for Kane was an odd fear and, as an animal of prey, he didn’t like that feeling. Kane smirked as he stared out the window. He really needed to turn the volume down on hearing other people’s thoughts. So, the jaguars and the cougars were together again… big fucking deal. What did they wan
Chapter 2 Kat had moved over to stand beside the window. She wanted to be as far away from Quinn as possible. She nearly rolled her eyes realizing her move had only brought him into her direct line of vision. She wished that Envy were here. She really needed to talk to the other woman… or just another woman in general. It would have been nice to have a little back up with this testosterone-induced conversation. Looking around the room, she realized that not all the main members of the cougar family were present. “Where are Micah and Alicia?” Kat asked knowing they should be part of this… whatever it was. Quinn looked at Warren with an expression that he hoped the jaguar would read between the lines of and back him up on what he was getting ready to say. “Alicia hasn’t been home from boarding school but a month and we are not bringing her into this fight. It’s too dangerous for girls.” Kat’s expression darkened further and she looked ready to rip the head of the coug

Chapter 8 Mrs. Tully pulled into Trevor’s driveway and shut off the car. Looking over at her patient, she knew he wouldn’t be able to get up to his apartment on his own. Getting out of the car, she went around to his side and opened the door. She leaned over him to undo his seat belt and Trevor smiled. “I’m not that badly hurt,” he said. “I can make it on my own.” Mrs. Tully gave him a look only a mother could accomplish. “As your doctor, you are going to follow my orders and they are to let me help you get into your house.” Trevor sighed then gasped when he moved his legs to get out of the car. “Yes ma’am.” He got one leg out then the other and used the car door to help him stand up. “I feel like I’ve been run over by a steamroller.” “It’s almost the same thing as fighting too many vampires at one time,” Mrs. Tully explained as she clucked her tongue at him. “One of these days, I’ll tell you about my first encounter with one of the were-dingoes I met when Mr. Tully
Chapter 7 Jewel and Steven stood in front of the priest trying to convince him of their desire to get married. So far… it wasn’t going very well. “I want to be with him, Father!” Jewel exclaimed. “I don’t love Anthony… I love Steven.” The priest shook his head, “Jewel, you realize what this could mean for your father and anyone that stands in Anthony’s way to get to you?” He glanced at Steven wondering which man was the most dangerous. “Do you even know this young man’s last name?” “His name is Steven Wilder. He’s the younger brother of Quinn Wilder and one of Nathaniel Wilder’s sons. If memory serves me correctly, the Wilder and Santos families used to be two of your biggest contributors,” Jewel explained, thanks to Steven quizzing her on the drive to the church. “I’ve fallen in love with Steven and I don’t want Anthony or anyone else to take me away from him.” She gave Steven’s hand a squeeze, “I didn’t want to get married for a few years yet, but with Daddy forci
Chapter 6 Trevor was rudely jerked from the peaceful darkness of unconsciousness by a searing pain in his shoulder. His eyes flashed open to find Mrs. Tully pulling a vampire’s broken tooth from his arm. He blinked and relaxed, thankful the fight was over. “Have you been giving my kitty Kat some love?” Mrs. Tully smiled gently because her missing feline had taken up with Trevor and probably had no intentions of coming home. She could hear Quinn growling somewhere behind her and tried to keep a straight face knowing that question could be misinterpreted. Trevor smiled and nodded groggily at his neighbor then looked past the gray-haired lady to see Warren and Quinn glaring daggers at him. And sharp ones from the looks of it. “What did you think you were doing taking Kat vampire hunting like that?” Quinn growled before Warren could. Trevor frowned then narrowed his eyes on Devon’s brother. Kat might not know where Devon took Envy, but he would bet his shifting abilitie
