Larry couldn’t harden his heart no matter how hard he tried. He rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital as soon as the phone was hung up. He could hear the conversation on the other end and knew that he wouldn’t be able to speak to Sheryl anytime soon. Sheryl’s mother was already in emergency unit by the time Larry arrived. He took over from the staff at Care Nursing Home and insisted on paying her for her trouble. It didn’t take long for the procedures to be completed and Sheryl’s mother to be admitted into ICU. Larry paid all the fees and requested services of a carer before leaving the hospital. Although he said he wouldn’t care, he couldn’t leave Sheryl alone. He got in touch with one of his lawyer friends and requested a meeting to discuss the case. They agreed to meet in the evening while the lawyer friend agreed to collect all the details. Larry kept his phone on him as he didn’t want to miss Sheryl's call in the event that she tried to reach him. He half expected her to call half
Chris didn’t know when he dozed off but was woken up by the footsteps outside their room even though they were barely audible. He too was a light sleeper like most people in trained in martial arts and didn’t give a damm about who he offended. He turned his gaze towards his sleeping beauty to see that she was still sleeping soundly, and nothing was out of place other than the bandage on the face and the pale complexion. As the footsteps got closer, Chris recognised the owners of the footsteps and hurriedly closed his eyes. In his defence, he didn’t want to be killed as soon as he woke up especially not since his wife and kids were well. He feigned to be unconscious forgetting that his best friend was not only the best doctor there was but also someone who knew him like the back of his hand. Neil did a quick check on Emile to make sure that she was recovering well before turning to Chris while Adrian stood by the door with a face full of schadenfreude. “Do you really need a doctor’s
The next morning, Emile woke up earlier than predicted, only to stare into two pools of deep passion and heart ache. “Good morning, Hubby” Emile smiled blissfully even though her face was still pale. “Good morning, Wife.” Chris leaned forward and kissed her gently on the lips before touching his forehead on hers and whispering, “Wife, I am sorry. I didn’t protect you well. I almost lost you. I…..” Emile raised her hand to cover his mouth to stop him from talking. “This has nothing to do with you. You did very well.” Emile smiled as she lifted her hand and hugged him, kissing him gently on the lips, like a dragon fly touching the surface of water “Hubby, thank you for loving me and showing me what love is. Thank you letting me enjoy the joy of being loved.” “No… I should be thanking you.” Chris hugged her close and smiled “You gave an anchor for my restless soul and also gave me two beautiful babies.” “Babies…. Babies….” Emile suddenly remembered the wound Eva inflicted and touched
“You what???” Emile turned to look at Chris in shock. Chris’s face that had already turned ashen from Simon revealing his dark secret turned further pale on seeing the shock his wife’s face which was slowly turning white in addition to her already pale face. He had forgotten about this bunch when he took care of his good friends yesterday. “Your husband is too good.” Addison’s lips curled up, seeing the normally unshakeable young tycoon squirm. “He even gave Dr Livingston a run for his money. The nurses were saying that he lost his head and ran out of the operation theatre.” He didn’t hesitate to muddy the waters further, not realizing his dear sister’s face was turning paler with his indulgence. “Do you know that if First brother had not wanted to settle score with him, he would …..” Half way through his sentence, Henry slapped the back of his head stopping him from continuing “No one will think you are mute if you keep quiet.” “Aaaa….” Addison rubbed the back of his head as he l
“How can there be a party without the star?” Darcy laughed as moved to the side to give Neil access to the patients. Neil pretended to check on Chris and Emile before turning face everyone with an apologetic expression. He was getting ready to chase everyone out. However, Elizabeth interrupted his mental build up. “Son, how much longer are you going to ignore mom?” Elizabeth couldn’t bear it any longer; it was as if she didn’t exist in the room. Chris didn’t even look at her, not even once. He had acknowledged everyone else in the room, even the Burkes. “Son, mom was muddle-headed for a moment, she would never knowingly hurt you…” Elizabeth choked as she stepped forward to move closer to Chris. “Heh! Muddleheaded…” Chris snorted as he turned his head, his eyes blazing with anger. “Son…..” Elizabeth was shocked by the hatred she saw in her own son’s eyes even if it was only for a second, a second that his gaze flitted past her. “How long are you going to use the excuse of muddle-h
Elizabeth cried miserably all the way through the hospital corridor to the car. She leaned on Adam as she sobbed “Hubby …. My son….. he hates me…… Hubby, I really didn’t think that ……. I didn’t think….. my son….. he hates me…. Why would I need to live now? Oh…..oh…..” Elizabeth kept blabbering in between her sobs making all the Walters feel uncomfortable. Their little brother wasn’t wrong, but seeing mom in this state was unbearable. Luckily, they didn’t have to endure long, they had reached the car park and split up as their destinations were different. “Dad, I need to go to the company and the ladies have a catch up planned so I will send the kids home with the driver.” Mark spoke once they reached the car park. “Dad, mine too.” Veronica chimed in as she turned to Mark “Big brother, can you drop me and Peter off on your way.” Mark shrugged with a head nod. Soon, it was agreed that the kids were going to their grandparents’ place as the siblings had somewhere to had to be. Emile
“Little brother is right.” Mark opened his mouth once again as he reached the car park “Our tolerance cannot be the measure to harm us even if it is our loved ones.” “I was thinking about it as I walked back” Mark continued “All of us felt compelled to plead with little brother not to be heartless because we saw mom’s pain from his words and actions but none of us saw his pain. Probably we would never understand.” Mark sighed. “Other than second brother, none of us have actually suffered the blow he has.” Mark shook his head “I tried to see from his point of view while I was coming down with you all….” Mark paused as he lowered his head guiltily “Even the thought made me want to cut all ties and never look back….” “It hurt over here ….” Mark rubbed his chest “hurt so terribly that it was difficult to breathe…. I cannot think what little brother went through.” No one spoke as they mulled over Mark words. It made sense, none of them had actually experienced the pain from mom’s underh
The next morning Emile woke up in good spirts although she was still weak physically, everything else was progressing well. She looked at the two babies who were sleeping between her and Chris. The strange thing was both babies seemed to be more attached to Chris than her. She looked at the duo that were curled in his arms with a satisfied smile although a strange pang of loss flashed past her eyes. ‘Oh, how she wished they were his!’ But the past was not something that could be undone. “What are you thinking about?” It was the loss that flashed past her eyes that caught Chris’s eyes the moment he woke up. He didn’t know why but he felt a dull ache in his heart as blurted out the question, the answer to which he didn’t want to hear. “I was wishing that I could undo the past. That way I wouldn’t be as stupid as I was in the past and they would truly be yours…...ours.” Emile blurted in a daze without realizing. In her defence, she hadn’t truly woken up. She was still swimming in the s
Chris and Emile made their way through the reception hall, toasting guests at each table, in the order of the closeness of their relationship. Adrian, Neil and Night Wing took their roles seriously as they blocked the drinks for Chris. Emile had her supply of fruit tea that Abbey religiously re-filled for her; No one knew why, nor did they think much into it as this was Chris Jnr’s arrangement.Chris and Emile had just reached the table where Grandpa Holston was seated when Chris Jnr slowly stood up from his seat and walked towards them, holding little treasures hand. The rest, along with Bruno in the lead followed with excitement as they knew that the fun Emm mentioned before was about to start.“Thank you for coming and blessing our special day with your presence.” Chris raised the toast towards Ron and the rest; he didn’t even spare Grandpa Holston a glance. It was not in his nature to grin and bear grievances.“It was our pleasure.” Several associates including Ron hurriedly joined
Chris and Emile moved to the cake-cutting event with the reminder from little treasure. Cake cutting had a little twist, contrary to the norm where the bride and groom feed each other with the first cut, Emile fed the piece she took to Little treasure while Chris fed Big treasure before letting the two treasures feed them.Although it wasn’t planned and neither big treasure nor little treasure were ready for the surprise, both husband and wife knew each other’s thoughts the moment they looked at each other; they didn’t need to plan or coordinate for such flawless action. The action from the duo that followed also wasn’t planned nor coordinated, it was their norm, the duo would always feed daddy and mommy with their little hands in reciprocation from when they were old enough to grasp things.While the shadow guards took it upon themselves to deliver cake to each and every individual that attended the reception, Chris and Emile personally hand delivered the ones for family and relatives
Once all the guests were seated comfortably according to their table arrangement leaving the seats in the front vacated for family, Augusta as the coordinator for the wedding, announced the entry of the bride and groom, in all its grandeur while the DJ set the background scores for the romantic entry of the bride and groom.Emile’s favorite symphony floated through the air as she and Chris made their grand entrance, once again wearing a couple set; they had changed out of their traditional wedding attire they wore in the morning to a champagne-colored gown and suit. They walked in, Emile holding onto Chris’s arm with a blissful smile, like a pair of immortals strolling through the mortal realm as they walked through the hall to the center, followed by their little tails also wearing a mini version of their set. The adorable little dolls had their heads held high, a proud smile hanging on their faces as they followed in their parents’ footsteps.The bridal entourage followed behind with
Everyone went back to their rooms to rest and change before the reception banquet, which was also the continuation of the wedding extravaganza with no expense spared. With all the guests housed in Royal Lux, the hotel was closed to outside business, other than the ones that had a pre-booking and couldn’t be changed to another date.“Where’s Christian?” Daniel turned to question Ceilier as soon as he reached their room; It was not that he didn’t notice that Christian wasn’t with them, but the truth of the matter was that he didn’t get a chance till now.“He went off with the Walters.” Ceilier twisted his lips awkwardly as he replied in a low voice.“That bastard…” Daniel gritted his teeth as he muttered under his breath before turning his attention to Emile. He waved his hand, instructing Ceilier to step down before walking up to Emile and taking a seat facing her.“What’s wrong?” Emile asked in concern as she saw Daniel staring at her with knitted brows.“Nothing ….” Daniel shrugged be
“Senior Master Walter, the ride for returning to the hotel is ready.” One of the shadow guards from the team who were assigned to the Walters and Burkes announced as he stood respectably by Adam’s side.“Um…” Adam nodded as he took the treasures and Bruno with him “Lead the way.” Adam walked forward holding Big treasure and Bruno while Elizabeth held little treasure’s hand. No matter how uncomfortable she was, little treasure put on a brave smile and walked forward, as though she was heading for the gallows. Both Adam and Elizabeth feigned ignorance although they were laughing in their heads; she looked too adorable!Adam purposefully left Little treasure to Elizabeth’s care even though he knew that she would be uncomfortable. His intention was well meaning; to give them a chance to get to know each other better. He just didn’t expect the extent of aversion he saw in little treasure’s subtle actions; there was not just aversion but also fear mixed with guilt which Adam never expected;
The groom kissing the bride, captured in the backdrop of the rising sun, was too magical to say the least; Other than the younger generation of the Burke and Walter household who were causing a ruckus by whistling and cheering, all the other guests were mesmerized by the magical moment that was unfolding before their eyes.“Wow! That was so magical.” One of the guests exclaimed as she turned around with a dreamy expression, stretching her hands; no one could despise her excitement as this was the thought in the hearts of most of the people who came to attend the wedding; the finale of the wedding was too mesmerizing for even the most grounded and rationale minds.They would never forget this magical moment for the rest of their lives; the moment they witnessed nature proclaiming the fulfillment of a man’s undying affection and loyalty; the moment they witnessed the groom and his bride finally attaining their happily ever after, despite all the odds that fate had stacked against them.A
“Mommy, you better take care of your man from here on…there's only so much a little girl can do…” Emm’s bell-like voice rang out as she advised seriously forgetting that her mouthpiece was still on “It was hard work, but we got him here for you.”Everyone burst out laughing as they heard the childish reprimand, leading Emm to wince in embarrassment as she hid behind her elder brother biting her tongue.“Uff….uff…” Chris Jnr cleared his throat like a little adult to attract everyone’s attention before he continued “As you have witnessed, our daddy’s journey to his happily ever after has been anything but smooth; whether it was our mommy’s blindness to recognize his unwavering affection and love….”The laughter from the crowd continued while the bride shyly lowered her head, but not without glaring at the flower boy who suddenly became talkative. Emm didn’t have any solidarity with the bride as she covered her mouth and giggled.“or whether it was the judgmental eyes of the world around
“You could never do what he did…”“What did you say?” Daniel asked in shock; he had heard what she said even though it was a whisper; he just didn’t want to believe it. He didn’t want to believe that Emile had recovered her memory. If she didn’t why would she say that?“How can you arrange so many hot air balloons? Such an extravaganza wedding would need the coffers of the king opened.” Emile giggled as she turned around to face him.Daniel stared at her face for a long time trying to make sense, trying to discern if what she said was purely based on the wedding arrangement or whether there was a hidden meaning in them. But before he could process this line of thought, the ceremonial bells rang leading everyone to take a closer look at the hot-air ballon in the center. Although it was one that could hold 35 people, there were currently only about 25 people including the celebrant and his assistant.“That is actually a priest not a celebrant.” One of the guests in Daniel’s basket, who h
Almost all the guests in the hotel woke up in the wee hours of the morning as they had all arrived to participate in the youngest Walter’s wedding. All of them without exception were filled with excitement regardless of the reason for their excitement.No one knew the exact location of the venue, as other than the name, Church in the Sky, Mossel Bay, there were no details of how to get to the venue. All they knew or were told when they asked for location details was that transportation for them to be taken to the venue was arranged for everyone attending the wedding.Cars were lined up one behind the other, at the hotel entrance, picking up the guests as they arrived at the entrance and heading for the venue. Daniel, Emile and Christian lined up at the back of the line as they arrived.“What are you looking for?” Emile asked in confusion as she saw Daniel looking around.“Grandpa is here too. I was looking to see if he was around.” Daniel shrugged “He could come in the same car as us.
