A Dose Of Confidence

“Are you sure that you are okay with going to school today? You can tell Naomi about the recent developments when she comes to pick you in a few minutes' time. You don’t need to go to school.” My mother started, as her eyes made a trail, from my head to the chunky boots which adorned my feet.

I had told her that Naomi would be picking me up this morning for school; there was no need for me joining a still furious Lilian in her car.

However, I understood my mother’s worries. Tucking me into bed last night, she had asked me why I had kept the bullying from her all these while. I had told her that I hadn’t wanted to trouble her with my troubles. But she had been adamant with the theory of being better off knowing about the situation before it had been brought to the council.

“Mom, I will be okay. No one will touch me, not after what the king had proposed. I will be fine. Naomi will be with me too.” I answered, putting my books into my backpack, despite the knowledge that I wouldn’t be needing them after today.

The city of humans.

What will happen when I get there? Who would I be staying with? Would I be alone? Would the humans be more accepting than my clan's people?

Well, they should be. After all, I was technically human. Already, I had decided that the identity I would be donning there would be the identity Naomi had managed to put into my head. I was kissing goodbye to my low self esteem.

A stylish chick. I mused, a short smile stretching my lips thinly when I looked at myself again in my mother’s mirror. I pulled off the look wonderfully well.

I could see the admiration in my mother’s eyes too. If this was a lighter situation, she would have praised me while dropping multiple kisses on my face. But this wasn't, at least not for her. She had only but a few days to spend with me before I left.

“Naomi gave you her clothes? I am not sure I have seen you in these…” She smiled for the first time since she heard the news.

“Yes, mom. According to her, I have been hiding behind tardy clothes, instead of living up to my name and beauty.” I replied, tapping my dry lip, whilst hoping that Naomi wouldn’t forget to bring the make up kit.

“She is a good friend, to have stood by your side all this while. She will miss you dearly.”

I will miss Naomi too.

A horn blasted outside. It sounded like Naomi’s bike horn.

“I think your friend is here. You should go now. And remember, if anything out of the normal happens, just return back home. You don’t have to spend the whole day there. Alright?”

I nodded, and gave her a hug.

“And by the way…you look beautiful.” She said when we disengaged, giving me another look over. I smiled my appreciation, and gave her a plump kiss on her cheek.

“Thanks mom. I will see you later.”

The smile on my lips widened when I saw the shock that clouded the faces of my step siblings when I stepped outside. They both had been talking with my father beside his car.

When my father noticed that their attention had been diverted from him, he followed their gaze, stopping short when he saw me. He was probably wondering why I was wearing chunky boots and crop tops.

In all, the looks on their faces boosted my confidence. And it was a welcome change which I was going to rock to the fullest.
