"Call me when you get to the apartment," Axel told Tessa, who was about to get into the taxi. Axel could have driven Tessa to her apartment, but she declined his offer because she didn't want to be a bother. What the hell! Where's the hassle? Axel still respected that and let Tessa return home in the taxi he had ordered.

"Hmm...I'll go first." Tessa just gave a small nod before, finally, she broke eye contact with Axel.

Tessa chose to return to her apartment by taxi instead. She didn't want to linger with Axel for too long, which would only make her more dependent in the long run.
