Emily Tamara Jacobs.

I pulled my large box along with me as I trudged down the staircase of Selene's house. I had packed everything I would need to work in the Billionaire's mansion.

It wasn't my first time being a live-in nanny. I was just going to work for a couple of months or years then get assigned to work somewhere else. It was how the agency worked.

I was a trained nanny. After I left college, I moved in with Selene; my cousin. At that time, she was newly married to her ex-husband, Bryan. She was just a few months gone so it was the perfect time for me to move in. I wasn't planning on staying long with her. I just wanted to get a job and secure my apartment before moving out.

But the job didn't come.

Not when he did everything he could to block my path to success. He wanted me to plead and beg but I already vowed that I was never going to do any of that.

For many weeks, I wandered about the streets of New York in search of a job. Then, I saw a post for a job interview as a nanny with mind-blowing pay. Selene thought I did well with kids, so she pushed me to apply.

Unfortunately, I wasn't offered the job because I didn't have any experience. Selene and Bryan came up with the idea of me joining an agency where my experience or not wouldn't matter and thankfully, that helped me a lot.

So, ever since then, I worked and earned as a nanny.

I narrowed my eyes as I looked around the living room. I was packed up ready to open another chapter of my life but here I was feeling nostalgic about leaving. I didn't know what was wrong with me, it wasn't like this was the first time it was happening.

As I made to settle down on the sofa so I could eagerly await the ride that was sent to pick me up and transport me over to the Blakes company; my eyes caught sight of the small photo frame hanging on the wall.

The brown-eyed man that stared at me in the photo had me sighing a bit. He is Bryan, Selene's ex-husband. The kids had insisted on having a photo of him in the living room. It was hard explaining things to six and four-year-olds respectively why their father wasn't coming home again to see them and not to talk about the photo issue.

Selene had hung it there to make them happy.

I hissed, feeling my blood boil as I stared at the photo. Even though I felt it was kind of my fault for having him divorce Selene, I couldn't help agreeing with Selene that he was nothing but a dickhead.

He had no regard for Selene, always going about everything in a skirt including me. He didn't even respect the fact that I was his wife's cousin before coming to me at night. I shivered as I remembered the incident.

To stop myself from traveling down memory lane, I grabbed my phone to chat with a few of my friends but the unfamiliar horn blaring right out in the yard had me stopping my intended action. Sighing, I grabbed my box and adjusted my green scarf which I had wrapped around my neck.

I grabbed my keys and walked toward the door. I unlocked it and walked out, the cool breeze hitting my face immediately. I narrowed my eyes down at the black Audi in the driveway. The window had been winded down as the driver had his head tucked out to wave at me.

Smiling, I locked the door and grabbed my box before walking over to him. His almond-green eyes sparkled with some emotion as he stared at me. “Good morning, ” I greeted politely. “Are you Sal?” I asked him to be sure that I wasn't about to get into the wrong car.

“Good morning. Yes, I'm Sal and I believe you are Emily.” He smiled as he handed me his company card. I did the same, handing him my card after I secured it from my mini bag.

After the exchange, I turned around to get into the waiting car. As I settled in, about to shut the door close, I caught sight of the man in the house opposite Sel's. He was standing outside and waving at me eagerly.

Dan.

“Bye, Dan,” I yelled since he was a bit far away. He mouthed something I couldn't decipher but didn't bother to ask him to repeat his words. I just nodded and smiled before shutting the door. I fastened my seatbelt while Sal slowly eased into the road.

The entire ride was silent. It was not the kind of silence that was filled with unsaid words, it was more of a comfortable silence. I took out my phone and quickly shot a text to my boss. I sent Selene a text too to tell her that I was on my way. When she didn't reply immediately, I guessed that she was in a meeting.

I didn't put down my phone not until the car stopped moving. It was then I realized that we were at the company. Sal helped me get out but told me to leave my luggage in the car. I stood transfixed on the floor as I stared at and admired the beautifully designed skyscraper building. I had seen many and stayed in many but none had had me gawking the way I did. Something about the building was just so appealing.

More dangerous.

“This way, miss,” Sal said as he began to lead me into the building. Even though I've been here a couple of times to see Sel and also for the interview, it didn't stop me from gawking.

The place was very neat like always and the environment was warm. It had a kind of warmth attached to it. When we got into the private elevator which I knew would lead us to the executive floor, I quickly typed another text to Selene. This time she replied, informing me that she was in a meeting with a client.

Finally, we were on the last floor. The elevator stopped and Sal led me out first. I took a moment to brush myself over and strengthen my confidence. I wasn't going to lie, I was a bit anxious to meet the big boss. Anyone could see that from the way I kept biting on my bottom lips and wiping my hands against the fabric of my clothes.

“Ms. Mandy, ” Sal called out when we got to a desk. The only desk in sight in the beautiful room. The round-shaped lady behind the desk stopped typing on her laptop and glanced up at us. She adjusted the round geeky glasses on the bridge of her nose to fit in properly.

“Thank you, Sal.” She dismissed eagerly before her gaze flickered to me. Her eyes did a slow crawl over me and I knew she was accessing my outfit. Sal mumbled something I didn't catch before turning around to walk away.

“Name, ” Her voice was formal and her tone was firm, making the request sound more like an order. Or maybe it was an order because the way she looked at me, her eyes squinting at me in a demeaning way made me uncomfortable.

“Emily, Emily Jacobs,” I told her as I shoved my hand into my mini bag and took out my ID. I showed it to her and she gulped, nodding slowly.

“Okay, Emily. I'm Gina, "she introduced. The corners of her lips tugged upwards into a small smile which I was quick to return. She went ahead to place a call to her boss and after a brief talk, she put down the phone again.

“Williams will see you now. First turn by your right.” She pointed out. I couldn't help noticing the familiarity with which she called her boss name but I didn't question it. Who was I?

I smiled and thanked her before moving along the path she had directed. Soon, I was standing before a large door that had the words CEO inscribed on it. I took a moment to adjust my black long-sleeved V-neck top which I had paired with matching blue skinny jeans and black lace-up shoe boots.

I breathed in and released my breath before sending a knock across the door. For a moment, I didn't hear anything and so, I knocked again. I heard the deep authoritative voice asking me in. I placed my hand on the knob, twisted it, and pushed the door open slowly.

When I walked in, the first thing…or person I noticed was the presence of the huge-looking man sitting on a chair in front of a large desk. I didn't see his face because his back was turned to me and he had a phone pressed to his ear. But that wasn't what had my breath cut short.

It was his words.

“I just told you, Reece. What I want, I make sure I get. And nothing can stand in my way…not even you.” His words had my eyes widening and my lungs getting clogged.

Holy Moly Christ!

If that didn't just sound like a dangerous thing to say.

My palms had turned sweaty, and I wiped them on my jeans hurriedly, just as he spoke again.Wasn't it a bad idea to step into the territory of a rival? Was I not making a big mistake?Am I being sensible at the moment? “Reece, I don’t think I’d like to repeat myself,” he said, his tone laced with malice. I felt a shiver run down my spine, wondering if that was the same tone he used with everyone he was talking to. “You already know what I want. Get it done with,” he added, before removing the phone from his ear. I could hear the beep sound made by the phone once he clicked the red button. My feet remained rooted to the spot, and my voice seemed to have disappeared, as I just stood there, staring at his back, my heartbeat not refusing to slow down. What the fuck was I doing again? I should have texted her before we left the company. Looking around me now, I didn't think that there was time for that. The door to my side got pulled open and I heaved a deep sigh before I stepped out of the car. Crew had gotten the door for me. I gave him a small smile in appreciation which he returned.I looked around my environment as I helped myself with my box which had been taken from the car's booth. A large mass of tall trees and flowers spread along the line. My brows furrowed as I looked around. Emily Tamara Jacobs. I looked around. The walls of the room were painted indigo and white. The bedspread of my bed was black, with four purple pillows spread out at the head. I love how warm and cozy the colors are. I eyed the walk-in closet, a part of my mind whispered that now was the right time to get my ass off the bed and arrange my clothes into it, and the other part told me to lay my back on the bed and let the comfort whisk me away to wonderland. I gave in to the other part, laying on the bed, a soft moan escaping my lips as I felt the muscles in my lower back loosen. I stretched out my hand, searching around for my phone and picking it up. I texted Selene, informing her that I was settled in William’s house, before setting up an alarm for myself. I dropped the phone next to my ear and then released a contented sigh as I closed my eyes. I whisked my eyes open moments later. The alarm was so damn loud. Reaching for my phone which I had tossed somewhere earlier, I took it an

It was the same day her mother left that she started to have those nightmares. A part of me wanted to hate her for leaving but why should I be bothered? They were all the same thing. They acted the same way.I walked down the stairs in the dark, running my hand through my hair. I had gotten sensitive the past few months since the nightmare started. Usually, I would just stand by her door and let her nannies handle it. I never went in because they were always there before me. I didn't think I would be able to handle seeing her that way, crying and tossing about. Turning over to the side of the bed, I clutched my duvet tightly and pressed my head onto the pillow. I had barely gotten enough sleep with having to wake up earlier in the night and staying around for Williams to arrive from work. I huffed and turned on the bed. My hands moved around on their own, trying to find my phone. My hands kept moving around, but it seemed my phone wasn't anywhere near. I opened one eye and winced as the alarm rang again.“Ugh!“ I sat up properly on the bed, a huge frown on my face as I grabbed my phone from the nightstand and glared at it, turning off the alarm. It was a little before six a.m. I sighed, dropping my phone on the other end of the bed. I laid back on the bed, closing my eyes and breathing steadily. I was feeling so exhausted and I hated it. It made me feel a little incapable.Alright Em. You can do this! I kept my breathing s

But I trusted Reece to do his job wonderfully and delay the Roosevelt bastard just like I had asked him to. I took out my phone from my pocket, checking my phone to see if I had any calls from my father or Reece. I halted in my tracks, scrunching my face as I scrolled through my phone. I expected a text from Reece. An update on whatever was going on at the airport. But I saw nothing. I tried not to scream or throw my phone away in anger as I locked the screen and continued walking towards the Maybach parked a few feet across, waiting for me. I increased my pace, knowing fully well that every time I wasted brooding was going to bounce back on my business. As I got to the car

It clung to me like a suffocating cloak. I rubbed my face, sighing deeply, before picking up my phone and walking out of the room. I needed something strong to clear my head before I lost my mind and killed someone. Reece to be precise. I wandered down to the hotel bar, praying that a drink could calm me down. This guy was the only one who could impose himself on me the way he did and he knew it and used it to his full advantage. Yes, I'd canceled on him a lot of times but he was my friend and he knew how demanding business was. Exhaling, I left him standing and walked away to my bar. Looking through my collection of wine, I selected a bottle and walked back to the table. “So, that was Emily.” He started with a knowing smile. “What?” I tilted my head at him as I put down the bottle on the table. “Let’s have it. What's on your mind now?” I asked him. “I haven't even said a thing, bro.” He chuckled as he started to unbutton his jacket. I eyed him with a grimace. “You are dressed like it's not dinner at my house. Do you have plans to be somewhere else?” I asked him. He laughed as I pushed the chair back and settled down. Every

For some reason, it disturbed me greatly. I didn't know why I was worried about it, but I was. I couldn't shake off that worry. I inhaled deeply to calm myself, but it wasn't working. Who was the woman? And why was she even asking questions in the first place? “It's fine, Em. She was just curious, that's all,” I muttered. But what kind of curiosity would make her ignore personal greeting and ask if I was Suzie's mom? And then her look after that? I sat on a stool, pressing my hands to my forehead. “Hey, Em. Emily Tamara JacobsI pushed the door to Dahlia's salon, walking in with Suzie still in my arms. The scent of hair oils and hair wash soaps hit me instantly. It wasn't the kind of smell that could make someone gag. Nope. This one was pleasant. Most especially the lavender hair wash. That smell overpowered the rest. The Salon was large. It was the biggest shop in the avenue. And the most attractive. Dahlia has flawless brown skin and beautiful admirable hair. We've been friends for so long that I lost count. I knew her through her hair obsession. It was like talking about the same people. Where there was hair talk, there was Dahlia. So, it was very easy for me to notice her then in college. So, I wasn't really surprised when she ditched law to pursue her through her passion. Damn her parents for pushing her through the stress. My eyes roamed around the Salon. It was almost filled up, with just one space available. All her workers were working on one person's hair or the other. I

I stayed up most of the night to watch CoCo with Suzie. It was a weekday. Thursday, to be precise, and I should have been stricter with Suzie and sent her off to bed, but it had been over a week since she was home, and she still hadn't resumed school because her father wanted to change her school but still hadn't decided which school he wanted her to attend. I should have been up hours ago, preparing for work, but I wasn't exactly in the mood. Besides, I was supposed to bring Suzie back home today. Her back had healed up, but the scars hadn't faded entirely. I'm not sure they would, anyway. I was still angry that someone had done that to her. I groaned, rolling in the bed and staring up at the white ceilings. I could probably sleep for a few more hours. It wasn't that necessary for me to pick her up this morning. She has been there for a few weeks, surely she could handle a few more hours. Besides, Emily was there to take care of her. I hated the way my lip twitched at the thought of her name. Emily and Suzie were bonding. And Suzie now talks more. Most especially since she started hanging out with Eleanor. If I had the chance, I'd have Eleanor stay at my house,

We got into the elevator, and just the same time a text came in, telling me that Suzie's room had been moved to the last room in the hallway, from Crew. My lips stretched into a smile as I saw the text. William must have informed Crew that I was coming back. Which was great because he would have to be the one to move my bags out of Sel's car and into his. I was glad that he was still here.
