A night sky, so dark that it felt too ominous. The forest seemed to be a labyrinth with no end. Each step seemed to take a little bit closer to the pits of hell.
That's how they felt.Numerous footsteps echoed in the eerie silence of the dark forest as the coven of witches kept running from the danger behind. Their hearts were all out of breath but the urge to live a little longer was enough to keep them going. The youngest of them could nearly keep up with the rest. Her red hair was wet with all the sweat, clinging to her white paled face. But she kept running, following others.Soon they heard the footsteps behind. They were close...so close. The prey decided to hide as the predator neared and neared. She kept her hand on her mouth, trying to stop her erratic breathing. The wide tree though did nothing to hide her.She was scared as none of her other sisters were near. She was now alone.A strong hand took a hold of her red strands, and she screamed in agony."It's the little one." A croaked laugh was followed as her scary eyes met the black eyes of her tormentor. His face was covered with a black cloth. A huge scar, almost inhumane, resided on his left eye. It proved that no mercy was going to be given to her as she waited for her death in the arms of a monster. She looked behind him to see a few of his members with their faces hidden looking at her with those malicious eyes. A sharp blade blocked her view, earning her attention towards the one holding her.She shivered in fear, eyes closed, she wished it could be as painless as possible. But a growl interrupted her last prayers, or what she thought was her last.
The grip on her hair loosened. She felt with a thud on the ground. Screams and growls erupted around her as she pressed her hand to her ears. Her muffled crying seemed to dissolve under those heinous screams.
Soon everything was quiet, so quiet that for a moment she thought her ears were not working. But when she opened her eyes, the scene in front of her was so gruesome that it made her sick.Decapitated bodies lying around, some still jerking as the blood oozed out from the former's neck. Her eyes roamed as she came face to face with a white wolf.A she-wolf. Alone. The red blood formed an alluring pattern on her silk-like soft furs.Eyes were red, matching the cruelty of the night, staring right back at the shivering witch. Her breath hitched as the wolf approached her. She couldn't take her eyes off it. The wolf seemed so majestic, elegant yet deadly and dangerous. The wolf slowly approached her and nudged her hand. She looked down to see her hand bleeding. The wolf slowly took a step back and went behind the tree. Soon, a beautiful young girl steps out and walked toward the witch. She smiled, "Are you okay ?". Her voice was so soft yet so stern."Y-you are going to hurt me ?" The witch could no more recognize her voice. It was so difficult for her to form those words."I just saved you...to hurt you? No, of course not."The witch slowly nodded and bowed her head in gratitude."There is a very old coven residing in the east of the forest, you will be safe. Would you like me to take you there ?". The witch looked at the werewolf's eyes. It was nothing evil, she genuinely cared. Nodding at her she followed the wolf towards the east. The night grew colder and colder as they kept marching towards the coven. The she-wolf suddenly stopped and pointed down a village. It was glowing with all the lanterns hanging around each house. People were still out, she could feel the essence of witches and wizards around her."I can't accompany you anymore. I hope now you can find your way." The she wolf said with a small smile. The witch nearly cried with relief. Slowly yet cautiously she held the hands of the she wolf."You saved my life. I can't give you anything now as I am still young and foolish. But in the near future, I will surely pay this debt back."The wolf gave a small smile and took a few steps back. She turned and jumped down the hill. Her human figure turned into the same white fur as she vanished into the forest. The witch kept looking at the way she disappeared."I hope I could find you in your time of need."Then she marched towards the coven of witches.PRESENT Astraea's POV Those black eyes laced with golden strings were the only things visible in front of me. So alluring, and so ...mysterious.I felt it was waiting for me to approach but at the same time going far , far way from me. But, I couldn't stop myself. I kept on going forwards, desperate to reach to them. Suddenly as if everything stopped. I waited, again. It was coming near me. Those eyes seemed a bit glassy but didn't deviate from mine. And before I could take a proper look at the mystery before me, a bright light flashed making me blind for an instant. The next moment I opened my eyes, it was a cream coloured ceiling with little light hanging from them.Looking towards the left, my dear mother stood before the open window. Ah....A dream. Shouldn't have watched those stupid movies. "First day of college and you are still on the bed. Wakey wakey."Her soft voice literally cooed at me.My mom and dad were literally the best parents to me as well as the best partners
Astraea' POV The classes were almost over for the day. It was the game night. The juniors were really very excited, apparently the football team is like the hot shot in the entire university. All I heard in the corridor and classes, were girls fangirling over the players and how excited were they to grab any one of their's attention. Typical college wannabees... Walking out the entrance, I watched Emily laughing on Miranda's awkward expression. I was amazed that it didn't really took long for Miranda to be close with Emily and me.But then again, considering Emily's charming smile and all time innocent intentions (note the sarcasm), it wouldn't be tough to like her. As I reached them, their attention diverted towards me.Miranda gave a small wave. "Ready to go ?" I shook my head. "Well, I need to make a visit to Mr. Connor's office. He wants to speak to me about something. You guys weren't picking up your phones, so I thought to come and inform you." Emily had a sly smirk. "Th
Chapter 3 Astraea's POV My eyes were just on him, his sun-like glazing eyes. It felt like a sin to fight shyness off them. An unfathomable feeling. The calls of the team made him came back to the real world, breaking the eye contact, he jogged back towards the group. The number 7 on his jersey wasn't the only thing helping me recognize him. It was his whole aura, the way he moved, the way his eyes coordinated with every move around him, the way his dominance yet an amicable control was there hovering around the whole team, following and listening to him. Geez, stalker alert !!!!!!. The whistle broke my drooling period over the handsome hunk. The game started but my eyes were glued to him. He was fast and I mean very very fast. Calculated moves and really sharp skills. One of the player with number 11 was well coordinated with our captain. Even though the whole team was doing their best, but somehow this 7-11 duo were really giving everyone a good game. They were so in sync tha
Astraea's POV I woke up feeling distressed. Sweat ran through the curved of my skin. The dark trunks of the forest were long gone replaced by the soft-colored walls of my room. A dream, again? I stumbled over to the window, still feeling overwhelmed by all those incidents. It was still dawn. The sky was still dark.My skin had reminiscent of the cold. It wasn't a dream. It couldn't be. The feeling was too true to be a dream. My eyes gazed over the forest's horizon as if waiting for anything which could possibly prove that it wasn't just the young adult mind knitting stories in my subconscious mind. I didn't know how long I sat near the window, but my mom's voice definitely broke the stance. I dragged myself to get ready for the ready. Descending the stairs, the scene was the same as every day. My parents were being the cutest couple ever, except I couldn't cherish it today. My mind was too blank for anything to grasp. Somehow, eating breakfast and trying my best to give hearty
Astraea's POV My laugh echoed through the whole room as I watched my mom getting embarrassed under Dad's sleazy flirty lines. She glared at him then smiled menacingly. Turning towards me, her eyes gleamed with mischief. "You know, your Uncle James was just 15 when we were in college. There was a great buzz about the Transformers movie in his school, so he begged me to take him to watch it. And of course being the stalker your father and his friends were, they were also there at the movies. I was waiting for James to come back from the restroom, when Nate approached me. Do you know what he said ?" She looked at Dad with a smirk. "He said and I quote. 'If you were a Transformer you would be Optimus Fine.'." I chuckled, looking over at Dad, who casually cut his steak and shrugged at me. "What?, I thought it was cool." "Cool?, You said that line with such a straight face and sweating like a half cooked chicken, that it took me a whole minute to realize that you were flirting." She a
Astraea's POV The dryness clawed my throat as I woke up. The air rush seemed too slow, as I gasped for breath. Sweat made the fragile, light nightdress clinked to my skin like an inferior layer. Slowly and steadily, I felt my heart slow down. The breathing became normal which made me focus things around. Again, I was back in the warmth of my comfort zone. My hands shook as I tried to wipe the sweat off my face. However, it wasn't the only thing. My eyes, they were teary. I was crying.Because I was scared. I tried to tell myself but no , I knew in my heart that it wasn't fear, rather the presence of an unknown fragment in my soul making me awakened with a painful process. The tears were the proof. Nonetheless, this time it was different. I couldn't remember anything I dreamed off. Nothing, it was all blank but the pain in my heart spoke a different story. It was so intense and familiar that it felt like an old friend I had carried with me for evermore. The kind of friend who is t
Astraea's POVAn enchanted beauty which spread cold through every fiber of your skin, but when closer, it burns you with a passion and longing no one has ever seen.I looked at my image in the mirror. How beautiful she was that could make Zeus so lost and devoted to her ?.Were my natural grassy eyes too dull in front of her.Can my smile be as enchanted as hers ?My hands slowly stroked the edge of my dusty golden hair, caressing my waist. The light coloured strands, so soft and silky that one wouldn't mind getting tangled in while taking their last breath. How smooth were those tendrils, that could portray her as a innocent, hidden sin. I sighed. Stop it!!!!...... She is just an inspiration. An inspiration to give a face to Zeus's view of emotions. How are you so sure?Because people can't change. They would still be the same whether it is fall or rain, snow or midsummer. It's just his insight.Of course, just a timely thought to create his artistry. The day was really tiring and
Astraea's POV My gaze was stuck on the wall, mind blank as I sipped my coffee. The sweet-bitter taste helped me to calm down the nerves, but it was still not helpful enough to resist the urge of banging my head on the wall. Emily snorted beside me. "How come I have never noticed this before ?" From the moment I told her about the weird interactions between me and Zeus, this was her reaction. Nonetheless she was pretty surprised and excited about my plans with Zeus. "Ok, but I really don't get the problem here ?. You are interested in Zeus, so go ahead and blew him off his mind." I sighed. "Not that easy Em. The dimensions between us is really weird." "Weird?..How so?" "It's just ...I-I can't explain. You know the stupid feeling of knowing each other from the time I don't even remember. My feelings for him, I mean I don't even know what I feel for him. It's like an unexplainable pull towards him. And Zeus..one moment he ignores me like a plague and the next moment he invites me
Astraea's POVI always knew running was the choice of a coward. Hell, and being a coward was something I never learned.Yet here I stood, behind a damn locker as if it could protect me from getting squished under the catastrophe I created. A pit of my ownhell. I knew from the core of my very existence that it was stupid, but the heart was even stupider. The fear of the unknown nightkept on growing in my heart, being wary of the consequences. But before I could jeopardize anything, my skin felt on fire, like the sweet burn spreading through every pore of my pale skin. His hot breath fanned my ears. I was sure it was red by now, but I couldn't muster up the courage to look into his eyes."Running away already?"The mock was clear in his tone and as much as I tried to ignore it, the red bloomed on my cheeks.Sighing, I turned and looked at him, who still had the small smug smirk on his lips.Well not for long."You wish!!"He chuckled. The breathy sound was enough to take away the futi
Astraea's POV I groaned and turned my back on the irritating sunlight falling on my face. I want to sleep more. But, then again my mother's voice didn't let me fulfill my wishes. "Wake up Astraea, you're already late." She said and moved the curtains from the window making the whole room brighten up. I slowly pushed myself on my arms to get up when the sudden sharp of pain hit my head. It was like tons of bricks thrown at my head. "Ahh... my head." I whimpered while holding my head. This made my mom chuckle. "Who told you to drink so much? That too on your first time. Poor Zeus had to brink your drunken ass home." She snorted And that moment, I felt everything around me stop. "Get freshen up and have your breakfast. Then take the pain reliever. It will help a bit."I couldn't pay attention to anything she said except for one thing. Zeus....he was the one to bring me home. Why can't I remember anything?I didn't do anything crazy right?Ah... why is my memory so poor? "Why d
Author's POVHer golden hair shined like shimmery strands under the moonlight. The light breeze felt like icicles on her naked skin. It was almost midnight and the little town called Castleville was already in a deep sleep.Except two. They were lost in their own world. One was almost dancing and swaying on the empty streets which glowed under the moonlight while the other had his eyes stuck on the innocent little vixen. It was like he was the one intoxicated, drunk in her.Was he always so spellbinding under her spell? He wondered but not once did his eyes deviated. No, it was stuck on her. Like those stars who dim themselves to make the moon shine a lot brighter than anything in the sky.For him, he was the star among many while she was the only moon in his entire sky. He was the shadow, her shadow. He was meant to watch her, to protect her from every soul which intended to inflict harm on her innocent soul. All his life, he wished was her happiness, her smiles. He was ready to tak
Astraea's POV Dawn..... It felt so right. But why Dawn? My name was Astraea? So how could he call me something I was not related to? Is he drunk? Then like a flash, that dream I was in shattered when I was pulled away from his arms. My vision blurred a bit but I could see those expensively manicured hands on Zeus' shoulder. The girl, whose name I still didn't know, looked at Zeus with an extra sweet smile. "What are you doing here, Zeus?" She purred. SHE LITERALLY PURRED!!! I almost wanted to laugh. Zeus's face cringed with disgust. But before he could reply, someone grabbed me from behind. It was Emily. "You okay?" Her eyes moved to see those two people standing behind me. I could almost see those gears running in her head and then she smirked. Oh boy!!!! "My head!" She shouted and then stumbled back into a grasp. Only then did I notice who it was. Roman worriedly held her and made her stand up. Not once did he let her go and I could see the blush on Emily's face. "I don
Astraea's POV "Uh hun, the night is still young Em." The golden eyes were shimmering with curiosity. They were studying me and weirdly, it made me feel alive. Was I craving for those eyes to look at me? Maybe I was. I still am. It was like a breath of fresh air. Zeus's attention on me seemed to blur everything around. The mysteries, the dead-ends, everything took a back seat.It was just me and him. Taking five more shots and gulping them down one by one, my head felt too light-headed. My body didn't feel burdened under gravity, instead, it was almost as light as the feathers. The unseen shackles holding me were now broken. I was no more bounded but free and those glowing golden orbs only tend to increase the tenacity in me.Buring me with an unknown desire. I stood up and walked to the dance floor. My forest green eyes held Zeus's attention solely to myself. My heart danced in a neverending melody. He was no longer paying attention to the fake glitters beside him. Her giggles
Astraea's POV "Wait...that's it? I wanted to know what happened next. I mean how could someone end this just here? It was just starting. What did she mean by that? Is she in trauma and I don't even know the cute prince's name? How-" "EMILY!!!!" Her rambling abruptly stopped. She closed the book and looked at me while smiling like an over-fed puppy. "Sorry. I was too engrossed with it." "Tell me about it." I mumbled. "So we don't know what happens next?" I nodded. Emily kept quiet and stared at the wall blankly. A few minutes passed and I kept on waiting for her but there was no change.I was going to shake her back to reality when she jumped out of the bed and looked at me with a determined face. "We are going clubbing." She smiled. It took me a few minutes to understand how she even came to that conclusion."And how is that going to help me complete the book?" "Of course, it's not going to help you." I narrowed my eyes. "Then why on earth are we going clubbing?" "To get d
Astraea's POV After strolling through the forest for almost an hour, I finally found the town road. It was 6 a.m. and figuring that it probably wasn't the ideal time to greet my parents at their door, I walked toward Emily's. Her parents were out of town so I won't have to answer anyone, except Em of course. Right, Em. She did call me, I wonder why? It took me almost twenty minutes to reach the Anderson's. The entire front yard was filled with rose flowers. Emily's mother had a weird obsession with them, but of course, no one in the family could object her whether they like it or not. You really don't want to get on the bad side of Mrs. Anderson. It gets really.. dirty. I knocked on the door a few times and a sudden paddling sound came from inside. The door opened with a bang, making me flinch. A messed-up Emily stood in front of me. Her hair resembled a half-eaten haystack, the pajamas were riddled up on one side, all creased and crumpled. Her eyes were profusely red, staring at
Astraea's POV I groaned in pain. My head felt like being crushed under a truck's tire. What the hell? I could hardly open my eyes as the pain in my head increased. My body felt on fire, definitely not in a good way. I looked around and it was a small wooden cabin. The doors and windows were closed. I panicked and checked myself. My clothes were just as it is and the fall did scrap my knees which were now cleaned and covered in a bandage.Thank god nothing happened. Slowly trying to get up from the cot, I walked to the windows. They were tightly shut but after giving a few hard jerks, it eventually opened. All I could see were trees and the sky was dark. I checked my pockets and my phone wasn't there. What time it is? Mom and Dad would be so worried. Shit. I tried to open the door but it was definitely locked. Except for the owl's hooting and the crickets, I couldn't hear anything. It must be located in somewhere secluded place. The place was unusually cold so, I was really gl
Astraea's POV THE NEXT DAY Since it was the weekend, I could proceed according to my plan. Hastily taking a shower I went into my closet. The weather was nice and welcoming, so I opted for a dropped waist blue mini skirt and paired it with a laced white top. It was cute.My natural blonde curls rested gracefully on my shoulders. Taking my purse, I ran down. Mom and Dad were having their breakfast. "Good morning folks." I chirped. My dad carefully looked at my outfit and narrowed his eyes. "The skirt looks too---" "Pretty." My mom cut his words and side-eyed him.Dad awkwardly cleared his throat and I swear I wanted to laugh seeing his face.It reminded me of Voldemort, except for the nose of course. "Yeah. Pretty, very pretty. But where are you going right now? I thought you had no plans today." I pulled out the chair for myself while Mom served me delicious chocolate pancakes full of choco chips- just the way I like. "I didn't but then I remembered that I need a book for my
