It was chilly Monday morning and headquarters was filled with a lot of officers, hailing from different Intelligence and Crime Divisions, a sign that this would be a hectic day for all the officers and agents. Lance, the best Agent at NBCI, a short form of the famous National Bureau of Crime Investigation strode across the lobby, receiving greetings from colleagues and admirers as he headed to his office, feeling a sense of pride.
He was not only good at his work but also undeniably good at stealing the hearts of beautiful ladies; he was heartthrob of the entire NBCI as far as the women were concerned. He even managed to steal the heart of the Chief-Agent’s daughter, Katrina Boyaze; tall, slender, beautiful and light-skinned,obviously the most attractive woman at the Subdivision but not for Lance. Katrina was definitely not Lance’s type of woman because of her cheeky and pompous attitude, stemming from social status. She was shrewd in her ways, usually taking shortcuts to promotions and Lance resented her for that because he rather believed in hard work and commitment. This was why Lance was also the most trusted agent in the City of Flora. Walking into his office, Lance took a seat in his armchair and soon his assistants, James Martinez and Vivian Sundae came to deliver the day’s agenda.
“Sir, there has been a new lead on Dario Pavel. He is hiding in North Sultan. But the place is dangerous. The Police Force has not been able to launch a successful raid without casualties. The damned criminals are good at protecting their territory” James vividly explained.
“James….” Lance paused after hollering James’ name. There was an unusual coldness in his voice that made James nervous.
“Yes, sir” James answered hesitantly, wiping the sweat off his brow.
“Are you suggesting that we bail out just like every other chicken headed Police officer out there?” Lance posed a question, fixing his penetrating stare on James.
“No, Sir” James replied nervously.
“Good answer.” Lance said as he stood up to the height of James. “….because I won’t tolerant laziness on my team”
“I understand, Sir” James responded in a dejected tone.
“I know you do, James” Lance chuckled as he slumped back in his chair and turned to Vivian. “….Vivian?”
“Yes, sir….” Vivian replied in haste, taking a deep breath after that to compose herself.
“What do you have for me?” Lance asked her softly.
“The meeting with the other team leaders is ongoing at the moment.” Vivian stammered, fumbling for the rights words to say.
“Didn’t I tell you that first news should come first? I told you to act smart and be alert but my advice went in from one ear and out through another” Lance scolded her.
“I’m sorry, Sir” Vivian stuttered.
“Will your apology save me from scorn?” Lance sneered.
“What should we do, Sir?” Vivian replied in a shaky voice.
“We obviously have to go to the meeting…common sense, Vivian.” Lance snorted.
“Absolutely...” Vivian replied as she hastily grabbed Lance’s files.
“James, give me a detailed report on Dario’s case when I return” Lance charged as he and Vivian walked out of the office.
The meeting had not started yet when Lance and Vivian arrived, entering the board room majestically as heads turned to them with grimace expressions. Lance occupied an empty seat, unfazed about the lowering stares he was receiving from his colleagues. Katrina tried her best to get Lance to notice her but her efforts were futile. Lance completely ignored her hearty smiles, making her furious.
“You’re late, Cortez.” She scoffed. “…woke up late after making love to the girl next door?”
“Not that it is any of your business Agent Boyaze.” Lance retorted with a crooked smile.
“Why are you late then?” Katrina hissed. “Obviously, Vivian here didn’t do her job…”
“…leave Vivian out of this. She's not at fault. You just stay out of my business.” Lance countered Katrina, leaving her with a gaping expression.
“Whoa, Lance!” John, another subdivision leader intervened. “Boyaze only asked for an explanation. You kept us waiting.”
“It clearly didn’t sound that way, John. It feels like I'm being questioned by my wife.” Lance remarked.
“Come on…You should know how Katrina speaks by now.” John reasoned with him.
“If it is any consolation, accept my apologies.” Lance said and despite giving an insincere apology, everyone accepted it but Katrina was not done. Being aware of Lance’s intention to protect his nerdy assistant made her so jealous that she could not help but glower at Vivian with evil intentions causing the latter to lose her balance, almost falling if Lance had not caught her in time.
“Are you alright, Vivian?” Lance softly asked her and Vivian nodded thankfully as she gained composure. “Be careful…”
“Yes…” Vivian replied; stealing a nervous glance at Katrina’s devouring eyes.
“…eyes off Vivian, Katrina,” Lance cautioned, knowing that Vivian’s clumsy near fall was caused by Katrina.
“It’s her fault that you're late.” Katrina commented harshly.
“Don’t pick on my PA” Lance told her.
“Your team members are not performing... You need to lay them off!” Katrina added to her many words.
“Says who?” Lance asked, chortling with amusement.
“You're laughing.” Katrina snorted.
“Vivian is my PA, Boyaze. Let me handle my people and you handle yours” Lance concluded and kept quiet.
“Lance is right about that, Katrina. He is well capable of handling his business. It is important that we get over this meeting at the moment.” John intervened once again. Katrina was the least pleased with this decision but she obliged. “Some silence at last. Now the Chief can come in”
Without warning, a bald headed man walked into the room and took the center seat, facing all his subordinates. With a crooked grin on his face, he took a glance at Lance, all the way to his daughter, Katrina.
“Cortez and Boyaze…..trouble in paradise?” He asked amid a smirk, making everyone chuckle. Lance also forced a smile as he gazed at his boss and mentor while Katrina pretentiously peered through the files on the table.
“The trouble is gone. We are good to go.” John replied on their behalf.
“We have news that a hundred and fifty womenfrom Saba have been trafficked. We have to nab Dario immediately” the Chief spoke in a grave voice
“Lance is the one working on the case, Chief.” John answered immediately.
“Why must he do it alone? You’re also an agent. There are no major cases in your Unit. You should help him out” The chief said.
“There won’t be any need. Dario is in Sultan but we can’t go to him. We must use bait to catch him instead.” Lance responded.
“What kind of bait?” the chief asked.
“….a woman. Only then will we be able to nab him.” Lance replied confidently.
“Why haven’t you implemented this plan yet? We have secret Agents in Saba.” John chipped in.
“Don’t worry…. Everything is under control. Pavel is in our hands already.”
“This meeting is over since the major issue has been tackled. The rest of you should continue working on your assignments. Boyaze, I need a report on the Ministerial corruption case ASAP.” the Chief replied as he stood up to leave.
“Dad! I mean, Chief.” Katrina blurted out.
“What's the matter, Boyaze?” The Chief asked his daughter.
“What about my promotion?” Katrina inquired.
“Let’s talk about that when I see progress in your case.” The Chief replied and walked away immediately, leaving the others to laugh at Katrina. Even Vivian was smirking while covering her mouth to avoid trouble.
“The Chief may be your father but he doesn’t support Nepotism like you.” Lance said, twittering.
“What is that they always say? Hard work pays off, my dear Katrina Boyaze.” John added with a crooked smile.
“You're a nuisance to me.” Katrina hissed.
“Speaking of work; I have a criminal to nab. Perhaps, I can ask for a raise too.” Lance said, teasing Katrina before he asked Vivian to follow him.
“I'm leaving too.” John said to a vexed Katrina before leaving.

Three weeks down the line; on a windy day. The moonlight shined brightly and a truck could be seen moving in haste on the dark lonely road of el Paradiso. The driver of this truck turned on the second corner of the main road, driving into the wilderness, infested by wild animals and deadly vipers. The wolves howled; marking their territory but the driver was the least afraid of these wild dogs. He was used to them because this animal infested area was his home as well. The truck came to a halt in front of a gigantic gate with a wall fence that was secured by electrical wires. The driver beeped the horn of his truck and soon someone opened the gate for him from inside.
“We're home safely, Japheth!” The driver said in a chortling intonation.
“You can never grow out of this good feeling, O’Neil!” Japheth cheerfully said, making the driver bellow with laughter as he drove into the vast yard of this fenced premise. Soon a throng of buff men rushed to the truck and gathered around it, ululating and whistling merrily as they welcomed Japheth and O’Neil. Japheth alighted and dashed to the back of the truck, dispensing the crowded men with harsh screeches that filled the cold air. He walked over to the large container at the back of the truck and opened it, allowing the men to offload the huge boxes of beverages and snacks he and O’Neil had bought as a cover up.
“Take out all the boxes first.” He said while he and O’Neil went to smoke cigarettes in a corner.
“I cannot wait to see how beautiful the girls are!” one of the men chirped excitedly.
“Me neither. I heard that these ones were carefully selected.” another one replied with a cackle, revealing his yellow stained teeth.
“Japheth is good at his job, you see.” Yet another said.
“Move away, doofuses!” they heard a grumbling voice behind them as soon as all the boxes were taken out. Five men jumped into the truck and went to the far end of the container, removing a backdrop which concealed the other cargo they were carrying. The five men smirked, high-fiving each other when their eyes beheld their precious cargo of women stripped and tied together like a bundle of firewood. They requested for whips to be brought to them and with sinister smirks on their faces, they unleashed their rage on the poor innocent women whose wails filled the air, meeting the cries of the wolves as the whips landed on their bare skin, tearing through their flesh mercilessly. Meanwhile, the men outside the truck ululated and whistled with joy at the sight of anguish and pain in the eyes of the vulnerable women.
“Move, move bitches!” The men shouted in deep angry voices but all the women could do was wail as the whips cut through their skins, causing painful bruises on their flesh while their blood spattered on the floor of the container.
“Stop...!” A deep enraged voice filled the air, gripping everyone with fear and total silence was the effect. There in front of them was Dario Pavel, masculine and tall; born with good looks, long hair and an adorable set of dimples. The man was a physical specimen but he possessed a deadly and merciless nature. Turning to him, they all moved out of his way with eyes bulged in fear of being killed instantly or tortured to death. Pavel jumped into the truck, pinning one of the men against the wall of the truck with a knife lingering beneath his throat. Stupefied, everyone was waiting to see how this man’s life would come to an abrupt end.
Dario stared at the man in his clutches with bloodshot eyes while the others watched in fear; trembling like little children. At this moment, this man had a fifty percent chance of survival because Dario Pavel was as deadly as a viper; ruthless to the core.“How can they move if they are still tied?” He asked them. “We spent lots of money on these women and you want them to die before they even serve their purpose.”“Sorry boss.” The man said as he struggled to breath.“Sorry will not rectify your mistake. Untie them quickly” Pavel replied as he freed the man in his clutches.“Yes, boss” the others replied at once; obeying his orders instantly. The helpless women staggered out of the container as soon as they were freed but one them was too injured to move. Laying lifelessly on the cold floor of the container, she whimpered; calling for death to take her away. Pavel walked up to her and felt her
Later that night when Pavel returned to his room, he found the girl sleeping once again, and disappointed, he took the couch so that she could comfortably sleep in his bed. Meanwhile, he watched her sleep, admiring her lusciously as his thoughts run wild for a moment. The girl was an ethereal beauty; it was impossible to resist the urge to look at her because she was like a weapon of attraction, luring Pavel into reverie as he fantasied about all the things he could do to her and with her in his bed. But he soon snapped out of his wild thoughts, fumbling into his pockets for a lighter and when he had found it, he grabbed a Cuban cigarette from his table and lit it before inhaling from it deeply to clear the lingering thoughts.Soon, he was feeling better and decided to sleep as well but the girl suddenly began coughing profusely, struggling to breathe in the process. Her situation was frightful and worrisome to Dario that he sprang up and rushed to the girl’s side
Lady Fay placed a bowl of soup in Kedade’s hands and ordered her to take it to Pavel’s room. Like most of the women in the brothel, Lady Fay was envious of Kedade and wanted to see crushed emotionally when she witnessed how close Pavel and sunny were getting.“Why must I be the one to take this to her?” Kedade asked impudently.“Because I said so.” Lady Fay replied with a sinister smile.“Anyone else can do it.” Kedade said as she impolitely placed the bowl back into Lady Fay’s hands.“You seem to forget that you're no longer the special lady here.” Lady Fay remarked before hysterically laughing at Kedade. “Do not make me upset and do as you are told.”“You can laugh all you want. But I will regain my status even if it is the last thing I do.” Kedade said. She took the bowl from Lady Fay and stormed out of the kitchen while the latter bellowed with laughter.
Pavel laid Sunny on his bed. With his thoughts running wild, he massaged her hands so that she could regain consciousness. Luckily for Sunny, Pavel had come to save her right before the Chandelier could crush into her. His eyes glittered with joy, knowing that he had saved her from death once again but this didn’t stop him from worrying. Considering that, he was the one who had been fixing up the other room for Sunny and he didn’t make mistake while installing the Chandelier, Pavel was sure that someone had tempered with it deliberately.“Bring me, Kedade.” Pavel coldly said after coming to a conclusion that Kedade was the culprit. Saga though not convinced that Kedade was at fault obeyed his master’s command and went out to fetch Kedade. Meanwhile, Pavel returned into the room to investigate further, and kneeling beside crushed Chandelier, he inspected it with vivid alertness but something else caught his attention. It was a scent a lotion; limi
Sitting in a private suite of the City’s famous ‘elite’ nightclub, Lance emptied a glass of John Barleycorn and replenished his glass. The slow love song playing in the background riled up Lance’s sorrows as Gabriella crossed his mind, tormenting him and making him lovesick. He was about to gulp this one down too when a feminine hand grabbed hold of the glass, taking it away from him.“Drinking alone, honey?” A beautiful tall lady said to him as he looked up at her. She smiled brightly at him, weakening his resolve to send her packing. Lance smiled back and gestured her to take a sit beside him but she sat on his lap instead and winked at him smilingly. Her smile was dazzling, revealing a nice order of white teeth and dark gums which made Lance lose his mind, leering at her.“Do you want to kill me with your beauty?” Lance asked her smilingly.“It depends on the kind of death you want.” The woman
Later that evening, Lance unwillingly drove Katrina to her office. He wasn’t planning to drive her home like she requested but the chief Agent’s invitation to his house prompted a change of heart. Katrina giggled like a child; hovering on cloud nine when Lance opened the door of the car for her.“Thank you.” She chirped expectantly but Lance’s attention was somewhere else. He scrutinized his superior’s house like an agent he was; taking time to admire the beautiful flower gardens that surrounded the entire yard.“My grandfather and I planted these.” Katrina said; noticing that Lance was admiring the flowers.“How old were you?” Lance asked sincerely.“Thirteen, i think.” Katrina chuckled. “Why do you ask?”“I was just thinking about how adorable you must have been...” Lance replied before walking on ahead of her.“Is that a compliment?&rdquo
Feeling suffocated, Lance slid the window of the Limousine he was riding in with Katrina for some fresh air to clear his racy mind; making Katrina look at him with concern despite knowing she was the cause of his anxiety. Katrina smiled at Lance before hooking her hand around his arm and leaning on it affectionately. “I was thinking of our baby’s name. If it’s a girl, we should name her Katrina and a boy should be Daniel. The name will be perfect.” Katrina tried to make conversation.“Yes but Katrina isn’t a name I would name any child; lest they become like you.” Lance blurted out rudely.“Boo bear, you have the right to be angry with me but please forget about it. I did everything for love.” Katrina said, smiling apologetically.“If you think you and your father will have your way with me, think twice Katrina Boyaze.” Lance thought as he forced a smile and turned his
Cecilia and John sat face to face, eyeing each other as if they were participating in a staring contest. It seemed that John had underestimated Cecilia’s ability to delay the interrogation process as she kept on countering his questions with her own questions. After fifteen minutes of stalling, John changed the strategy. He stood up, threatening to go to her boss and imagining the embarrassment of being dragged out of the hospital in handcuffs, Cecilia budged and told the truth.“Alright. I faked the pregnancy report of Katrina Boyaze for a sum of 10 million. 5 million, down payment and 5 million after the job is done.” Cecilia revealed the truth.“Do you have proof of this?” John asked sternly. His eyes were glistening with rage; yes, it was personal but he had to stay calm and collected in order to save his friend from the cunning seductress who paraded herself as a law and justice upholder. How hypocritical. John thought to him
Gabriella..." Lance whispered her name. Gabriella stood up, dashed to him and hugged him."Daniel.." Gabriella cried on his shoulders. John walked in and began scrutinizing the basement to give them space. He found Lusha hiding behind a barrel and offered her his hand for help. She readily agreed. Hugging lengthily, Gabriella and Lance cried in each other's arms for a while before John interrupted them."We should go now." He said. Gabriella smiled at him and saluted."At ease..." John said and began walking to the door. Lance looked at Gabriella and caressed her cheek. Lusha grinned happily as she walked behind them."Why didn't you salute me too? I am the senior most here.""Do you want to brag about it?" Gabriella scoffed. As they reached the door, Pavel suddenly showed up and kicked John torso, sending him to the cold floor beneath Gabriella and Lance."Nice to meet you, Daniel and goodbye!" Pavel cried out. Looking up, Lance reali
Pavel ordered that Gabriella be brought to him after being disappointed when he did not receive a response from NBCI about his demands. He was worriedly looking out the window when she was brought in and carelessly slumped into a chair in front of him. Pavel turned to looked at her and she scoffed, her eyes glistening with mixed feelings of hate and gratitude. Apart from locking her and Lusha up, nothing major had been done to me. She and Lusha had food to eat, a comfy bed to lay down on and no torture. This made her wonder why Pavel was hesitant to deal mercilessly with her when he had it in him to hurt her."Your people did not respond to my message." Pavel told her as he poured himself a drink."I am not a weakling that they should rush to rescue me.""Or maybe you are not important to them.""Keep dreaming, Pavel." Gabriella scoffed again."You are my prisoner and you want to be hardheaded?""Do your worst! I am done playing with y
Two days after Evans' Commission, the allied forces met again. Hopefully, this would be their last mission This time around, Lance had also called the board members at NBCI to be a part of this meeting as the spies that had been deployed to spy on el Paradiso's vast areas had returned and this meant that the time to go and ambush Dario Pavel and put a stop to his terror had come.Meanwhile, Lance and his allies were not the only ones preparing for an attack. Gabriella and Pavel were also secretly planning their moves against each other. From the start, Pavel had vowed that no one would take Gabriella away from him and his desire to accomplish his promise was at the core of his very own heart."Are you really going to put me with this plan?" Marcos asked him pensively. "It could backfire you know.""If it backfires, I will kill Gabriella myself." Pavel replied confidently."Boss, think about this again.""All I have done since I discov
Back at the brothel, Lusha bolted to Gabrielle and hugged her. Pavel just walked past them and headed to the lobby where his new aide, Marcos was waiting for him. The two hugged lightly before Pavel took a seat and stared into space."Well....Did you do what you wanted?" Marcos asked him."Yes....I sent my family to a safe place." Pavel replied happily. "Now there is nothing stopping me from completing my plans.""What about Gabrielle? ""As usual, my mother loved her.""Too bad. You two won't ever be together.""It was her choice. She has exercised her will and It is time for me to exercise mine." Pavel replied."What are your orders?""We have an important adversary to deal with at the moment." Pavel said as he walked to the window and stared outside with a dismal expression."Don Francis." Pavel went on. "He dared to try and have experience assassinated.""What insolence! Give me your orde
Arriving at home, Pavel told his mother and brother to pack up before making a call. A van arrived in half an hour later and Patel helped Leon pack their luggage. Gabriella and the two men's mother watched in silence. As soon as they were done, Leon and Patel spoke in low tones. It was obvious they were discussing where learn would take their mother. Soon after that, they both approached Gabriella and their mother."Mother it is time to go." Leon said."Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would have to leave this place." Their mother replied sadly before she turned to Gabriella with a frown on her face."I am sorry dear. I wish we could spend a week together as planned.""I understand..." Gabriella replied and the woman hugged her. Leon also approached her and hugged her."Perhaps this is the last time we will see each other." He told her. Gabrielle smiled-it was a bitter smile. She knew that this was indeed the last time; not only for
As soon as Leon and Gabriella were done talking, they both went inside the house and found Pavel seated in the floor with his head on his mother's laps. Gabriella was a little flustered. She was never used to seeing Pavel so vulnerable and child-like. The woman stopped talking and caressing her son's head when she saw Gabriella. Pavel stood up too."Mum...She is the woman I was talking about." Pavel told his mother. Gabriella stepped forward as Pavel's mother stood up from her seat. Gabriella was going to shake her hand but she received a hug instead."Thank you." The woman whispered into Gabriella's ear."For what?"Gabriella could not help but ask. Pavel's mother chortled merrily and cradled her face."Without you, my son would not have come home." She said happily. "How long are you staying?"Gabriella was reluctant prompting Pavel to answer on her behalf. "We will be here for a week.""Although it is quite a short period....I am hap
Seeing that the security cameras were going off one by one, the security men in the guard room sprang up and ambushed to the door. One of them opened the door and dashed out out only to be met with a bullet from Lance's gun. The man looked at Lance with a blank expressing before his eyes shifted to his lower stomach, bleeding as blood profusely oozed out of his bullet wound. The others dashed into the hallway and engaged into a gunfight with Lance. It was not long before Calvary and some of the men heard the cacophony of gunfire and rushed to the scene. Calvary was confused to see Lance killing his men one by one before he realised that he had been tricked. Feeling betrayed and angry, Calvary opened fire from his revolver. The bullet missed Lance right ear with an inch as he sidestepped the attack with left leap and went down with a somersault. Reaching the floor with his side, Lance skidded to safety. All the while relentlessly shooting at his opponents. Calvary and some of his men
Later that evening, Lance crept near the Tavern with Terry and John following him behind closely. The other team from AHUTA had lagged behind to serve as the backup team when the attack commenced. Outside the Tavern, all was calm. Not many people were passing by and they made it easy for the law enforcers to move without being spotted. They all decided to enter the Tavern in groups of two to three in order to look like regular customers. Inside, everyone was busy that they did not suspect that something was off. The dim light in the tavern also provided a good camouflage. Besides, the tavern was crowded and noisy with the loud disco. People were busy grooving and chanting to the beat of the song. The law discuss not allow many people to be crowded in one Tavern but these people did not mind. They were used to breaking the law all the time. Soon, Lance and all his teammates infiltrated the Tavern and spread out to avoid suspicion. Some took to the dance floor while others
"Yes. I would would choose to live on the farm with Gabriella." Pavel thought to himself as he walked down the hallway that led to the bar. He still could not get the question that doctor Mattel had asked him out of his head. Even in the bar, he sat down and stared at his drink while thinking about Dr. Master's question."But it is too late now. This is my life. My father and I are far too gone that there is no turning back." Pavel told himself repeatedly.A few minutes after Pavel had left, Gabriella slightly opened her eyes and closed them again since she did not want to talk to Pavel at all even though she was awake."He is gone now. You can wake up." Dr. Matteo told Gabriella after Pavel had left."How did you know that I was awake?" Gabriella asked as she opened her eyes."I did not give you a high dose of the sedative." Dr. Matteo replied after chuckling. "From now on, you have to avoid taking to Pavel. Maybe i can get him to budge by
