Carolyn
11:00 pm
Still giddy from our trick on Paul, Charles, and I head to the limo, laughing.
“Thank you for that,” I say as we slip in.
“No need to thank me. That asshole deserved a punch."
“Well, thank you anyway for not punching him and egging him in my honor,” I say as I brush my lips against his.
“I’ll egg anyone for you.” I chuckle before pressing my lips on his. Feeling the heat flow through my body as the kiss grows more profound. I sigh as our lips part. I really could get used to kissing him every day.
“I think I’m becoming addicted to your kisses.” He says as if reading my thoughts. Sometimes the things he says lead me to believe we may have a future, and other times it’s the opposite.
“Is it a serious addiction?” I ask.
“Oh, so serious. I may go crazy if I go too long without tastin
Charles1:30 a.m“Stop the car here.” Carolyn suddenly says.“Here?”“Yeah, let’s walk the rest of the way. It should be close by.”“The place you’re taking me.”“Yup.”“Okay, Barney, pull over. We’re getting out here.” Carolyn grins at me as the car comes to a stop.“Let’s go.” She grabs my hand and pulls me from the car as she bounces with excitement. She is so vibrant and full of life that it makes me feel like I’m twenty again whenever we’re together. I hope we can extend it past this weekend, but it will be up to her.“What are you thinking about?” She says. I lift her hand to my mouth and kiss it before replying.“You’re the only thing that’s been on my mind since six this morning.” A little shy, she turns her face straight ahead bu
Carolyn3:25 am“Marry me…” His question stuns me. Did I hear him correctly? He asked me to marry him. But surely he’s joking.I chuckle. “Charles, that’s not funny.”“Cary, I’m not joking. I’m serious; let’s get married.” My eyes open wide. He’s serious. What? My body heats as my heart pounds in my chest. He wants to marry me. Why? Right, he just told me he loves me. Do I love him? I like him. I like him so much that I want to see him past tonight, but marriage? We just met. “Carolyn, Carolyn.”“Huh?” His voice pulls me from my thoughts.“Are you okay?” I look at his warm eyes and nod.“I know you’re a little shocked. I would be too.” He says as he takes my hand and kisses it.“But I know, just like I knew with my first wife.”“But we just met; you probably knew her longer than a day
His driver leaves me at the airport, and I check my bag and have a seat. As I wait for the flight, my mind keeps drifting back to the last 24 hours, which was crazy, from the lobby fight to sharing a hotel room with him, the casino. I can’t believe I won a hundred grand and almost lost that much. I chuckle and close my eyes. It was indeed a night to remember.Buzz, buzz.My phone vibrates. I pull my phone from my pocket and smile when I see it’s a text from Maija.“Hey, mom, are you on your way back?” Why is she up? I wonder as I call her. “Hey, mom.” She says after she picks up.“Hey sweetie, shouldn’t you be sleeping?”“I just woke up….”“Maija Cesar, I told you, parents die a little each time their children lie.” She sighs.“Okay, okay. I was up all night reading.” As usual, she had never seen a book she wouldn&rs
Forty minutes later, I head back to the car after failing to convince her to marry me for a second time.“Sir!” He greets me with a smile, but he nods and opens the car door when he sees my face. I sigh as I slip in. I thought she would say yes. I thought she would change her mind if I told her I would put off my trip, but she didn’t. Nothing changed in the last hour since we parted for the same reasons. Reasons I can’t understand. I know we’re from different backgrounds regarding money, but that shouldn’t matter. What should matter is that we love each other, but maybe she doesn’t feel how I do. Although she agreed to see me again and promised to accept my calls, it still feels like I could lose her. Hector pulls off as I watch the doors, hoping that she’ll run out to me but knowing it won’t happen.****I listen to the team go over the quarterly profits, but I can’t focus because Carolyn is all I can
Maija "Mom, where should I put these boxes?" I ask as I walk into the huge entrance of our new home. I have still not come to terms with living in a house big enough to be a small hotel. "Just leave them in here, for now, honey." I drop the boxes, returning outside for more, when I see a black Jaguar pull up in the driveway behind the moving truck. I have no interest in the car or the person driving it, figuring they must be a friend of my stepfather’s, so instead of gawking, I grab some boxes for my room and make my way into the house. "Everything ok?" I spin at the sound of his voice, Charles, my new stepfather. My mother married him within twenty-four hours of their meeting in Vegas. They called it a whirlwind romance. That was three months ago, so we're still
Zayne I drive up to the house, and there's a moving truck parked in the driveway. Mommy dearest moves in today, I assume. I scoff; I cannot believe Dad married some random woman in Vegas. I park my car, hop out and stroll up to the door. “Maija, is the truck empty?” A woman asks as she unpacks a box in the living room. She looks up, and I’m face to face with a beautiful African American woman. Not my father's usual type, he usually dates twenty-year-old models who try to get in my bed once he’s out of town. She looks at me with confusion before it turns into a smile. “Zayne?” I nod in response. “I’m Carolyn.” I grunt, unwilling to speak to this woman I know nothing about, but that does not deter her. She reaches in and hugs me before I can protest. “Your father brags about you all the time.” “Funny, he never mentions you,” I mumble under my breath, but loud enough for her to hear. She ignores my little remark and continues hugg
Maija By the time we finish sorting all the boxes, it is almost dinner time; we all agree on ordering pizza since no one feels like cooking. The food arrives, and we all sit at the dinner table having our first meal as a family. The atmosphere is nice and relaxing as Charles retells how he and my mother met at his hotel. I have heard the story about five times, so I’m not keen on another reiteration. I look at the slice of pizza when he gets to the part about mom threatening him and chuckle as I poke away at it. For some reason, I am not hungry for food. However, I am hungry for someone. Slightly lifting my head, my eyes meet Zayne, which instantly causes a flood between my thighs. It really should be a crime to be that hot. I bite my lip, squeezing my thighs together, hoping to quell the heat that is building in my core. “Are you
Zayne I sneak a glance every chance I can to observe her, she looks at me twice, but her face still registers her earlier indifference. She’s an interesting one, I must admit. I chuckle, recalling her comment about the marriage not lasting. Although I feel the same way, she says it out loud, which means she has some balls. “We’re about to turn in. What are you kids getting up to tonight?” My father asks as we finish the last slices of pizza. “I think I’ll finish the book I started a couple of days ago,” she replies. Who reads on a Friday night? “Nerd,” I shout, hoping she would turn that beautiful face my way again and speak to me, but she doesn’t respond or glance at me. “Zayne’s right, Maija. I love that you love reading just like your father used to, but it’s your last summer before college. You should have some fun.” “Reading is fun, mom.”
