Marshall's POV

My boss is going to be the end of me. I can't wait till the day I get to call him by name! Even that would be weird. Now I'm doing the work of an assassin. I got to the ground floor and drove out to locate little Miss. I wonder why he's so interested in seeing her suffer. I went to the location that was on the documents. " Found it" I exclaimed as I parked the car along the road.

" So what do I do now?" I said as I sat still in the car. I kept on looking at the door of the building. " Do I go in and ask for McCall Jessica, arrest her and take her to him. God this is embarrassing" thankfully, there was food and water in the car.

After what seemed like 2 and half hours,  I saw a young beautiful lady come outside. She had long brown hair which were twirling around her shoulders. She was wearing some casual jeans and a hoodie with a brown purse. She walked towards where my car was parked and I had a clear view of her face as she passed me. She was totally identical with the lady in the documents, just much prettier. I allowed her to walk some steps away before I followed her with the car. I drove slowly like I didn't know where I was going. Well…I actually don't.

She kept on walking even though I was driving, I was tired already, was she that broke. At last, she entered a bar. I stayed outside the bar like I was waiting for someone, took out the tracking device and waited for her to leave the place. When she was coming out, I intentionally bumped into her and seized the opportunity to put the device in her bag.

" I'm sorry" I said quickly and went inside the bar in a haste. Didn't really allow her to see my face. I entered the bar and it seemed like the one for low class people.

" Excuse me, please I'd like to see your boss" I asked one of the bartenders.

" Okay, give me a minute sir"

It felt so good being respected, or maybe it's because of my suit. A Few minutes later, the bartender came and guided me to a small room behind the bar. Damn, that sounded like prison. I walked in the small office and saw a young man, but I'd rather call him a boy.

" They said you wanted to see me, have a seat," he said.

I looked at the seat, and really??????? He expects me to sit on that. "No, I'm fine standing. I'll go straight to the point. A lady came here some minutes ago, I assume she came for a job" I said blankly.

" And why should I tell you if she did"

" I have an offer for you, it includes money, but I'll tell you what it is when you tell me if she came for a job" I brought out the cash in my pocket, about $5000 .

" Yes she did. And she already got the job. Now what's your offer." He asked, staring at the money I brought out.

" I'll give you this money, you reject her and don't give her the job. And also, I get anonymous"

" Deal," he said. That was easier than I thought. Humans are so wicked. Poor girl. I wonder if I should tell her to just go and beg boss. Maybe he'll take it easy on her. Humph. I dropped the money and added " if I get to know she gets this job, you'll lose your bar" and that was in a Stern warning tone.

I entered the car and drove some houses away from the bar. I checked my phone to see the lady's location and it turned out she went home. Such a boring life to live. Now that I have her location, I drove to my house to have a nice rest, being alert to her movements.

JESSICA'S POV

Now I have nothing to do. I just look and eat without warning anything throughout the day. The man at the bar told me to resume the next day. That wasn't so hard was it. I decided to take a walk downtown. If I stay with myself too much, I might just start overthinking. It was just morning and  it was quite stupid to take a walk. That man yesterday really screwed things up for me. As I walked down the road, I felt a movement behind me. I stopped and looked back but no one was there. But something was really off. I could feel it. Someone was watching me. I never get fake presumptions. I walked past a crowded road and zigzagged amidst the people. I don't know what or who I feel is following me but I think I lost them after taking a sharp turn. I boarded a cab to take me home and that was how my walk became short.

The morning was already turning to a disaster as I wasted my time in my stupid presumptions…well maybe I did save myself. I knocked on Mia's door and she greeted me with a smile. I entered finding my way to the couch.

" Hey, how are you doing?" Mia asked as she brought me coffee.

" I'm not really good Mia, I lost my job yesterday" I said and humphed.

" What!" She exclaimed. " How, why??? You've been working there for 5 years. Why'd he kick you out". She seemed concerned, well of course she is.

" A customer tried harassing me and I retaliated. I can't stand some young man trying to treat me out of question. I ummm…..I kicked his balls, and his guards too" I kinda whispered

" Jessica, c'mon, you could have handled that better you know" Mia said rubbing her hands in my back, slightly patting me. It felt good and I really felt at ease.

" I could but he deserves it. And I went to another bar today to see if I could get a job. He told me to resume tomorrow" I said with a smile.

Mia almost laughed, " so you did the bad news, then the good news trick on me right" I laughed.

" I just told you which came first and the other after". She asked if I had eaten, well I hadn't. I spent the rest of the day with her and her children. At least I was busy with people. After eating and gisting till evening, I left Mia's house to my apartment, hoping the next day would be a better day.

***

"I was wrong" I said as I sat on the ground in my room looking dead. " Today is the worst day ever" I screamed, which turned to wails. "Why is all these happening to me?" I cried. It was unlike me, I used to be hardworking and I always looked after myself. These are the moments where I wished I had parents. I feel like I'm dying already.

Waking up this morning, I dressed on time and walked down to the bar to start my new work, and guess what, he said he gave someone else the job. How??? I thought I had talked it through with him yesterday. Why then did he give me hope of getting the job? Why! It's really sad, I don't have anyone to hug at the moment. I rubbed off the tears as they rolled down my eyes.

I stood up, with my sober eyes, I went to wash up and do a little bit of makeup to hide my swollen face. I can't just sit down and cry here, no one is going to help me.

I went to Mia and explained everything to her, she told me to keep trying. Well I took her advice.

***

I had gone to three different restaurants and salons. They all said they'll call me. I got home and tried to relax when my phone rang. I picked it up with haste.

" Hello, is this McCall Jessica?"

" Hey hello, please" I sounded really desperate".

" I'm sorry but you didn't get the job" the lady said and hung up. I sank into my sofa, waiting for other calls from other restaurants… I got the calls and they all didn't give me the job. I went numb and just sat in distress.

" I am done for".
