EMILY'S POV

I woke up with a start as the rays of the sun hit me.

Squinting my eyes, I realized that I had been at the same spot where I passed out.

I realized that I had slept through the dangerous hours of the night outside and all alone.

Everything that had happened the day before flashed in my eyes.

I was still dressed in my bloodied dress and the blood of my parents was all over.

"Mum…dad…" I called out, not caring that I was sitting on the bare floor.

The bodies of my parents had been evacuated and I started to panic.

I did not get to spend my parents' last moments with them.

When I thought I had enough pain, I remembered the rejection from my mate.

"Eric." I said, in a low tone as I clutched the fabric around my chest.

My eyes were hazy and it felt like I had lost connection with my wolf and the world.

I just wanted to die but I couldn't do that without seeing my parents again.

Immediately, I stood up to my feet and swayed a little. But then I blinked my eyes and rushed toward the Alpha's mansion, which was a few miles away.

"The murderer is here!!" One of the pack members announced as soon as I got to the entrance of the Alpha mansion.

"What! I'm no murderer." I clapped back and immediately I started to walk forward. But in the next second, someone pulled me from behind.

"What the fuck!" I cried and I tried to turn but then I was held in a tight grip.

"What? You want to rebel?" The person said, in a mocking tone.

"Come, I have got some work for you to do." He added and immediately I was dragged by hair, toward the kitchen.

The person that had dragged me turned out to be the chef of the Alpha mansion.

"What do you want from me?" I asked, immediately I was released, with a panicked look in my eyes.

My face looked devoid of blood and I just wanted to crash at a place and cry out my lungs.

But then these people wouldn't let me be. They wouldn't let me mourn my parents in peace.

"I have some work for you to do. From now on, you will do dishes in this mansion." The chef declared and I felt like I was hearing things.

"What do you mean? Do you know who you are talking to?" I asked, with a confused frown on my face.

"Of course, you're Emily." The chef replied and immediately I turned around, ready to walk out of the kitchen.

I thought she had realized who she was talking to. I needed to know what happened to my parents but in the next second, I got dragged back.

"Get back here, you twat." The chef yelled and immediately he threw me toward where the dishes were kept.

"What are you doing?" I said, in a pained tone as my back hit the kitchen counter.

I groaned as pain shot through my body and my eyes watered.

I held onto the kitchen counter and then looked straight at the chef, who had a wicked smile on his face.

"I'm the daughter of the Beta. You shouldn't treat me this way." I reiterated. I had never gone through such a phase in my life and I did not know what to do.

"You mean the dead Beta?" He asked back, with a nonchalant look and I gasped in shock.

"Don't talk about my father that way." I clapped back, through gritted teeth. My finger was pointed at the chef with an angry look in my eyes.

I couldn't comprehend why my parents' death was taken lightly.

They had done so much for the pack and I reasoned that the Alpha was too relaxed about it.

Everyone below my father was talking down on him and I wondered if they never respected him.

"What would you do?" The chef replied, sneering and immediately he cut hold of my finger.

In the next second, he twisted it and screamed in pain.

"Ahhhh…" I yelled and immediately I fell to the ground and my head hit the handle of the cupboard.

I could hear different sounds ringing in my head as a warm liquid trickled down my head.

"The Alpha…" I said, in a shaky tone.

"The Alpha will punish you for this." I threatened, as my eyes were starting to close. I couldn't threaten him with Eric's name as he had rejected me already.

The chef burst into a peal of hilarious laughter and I wondered if he looked down on the Alpha too.

I felt like I was going to faint in the next second but before my eyes closed finally, a bucket of cold water was splashed over my head.

My eyes snapped open to see Eric before me.

The chef had doused me in a bucket of cold water while Eric was present.

When did he get in?

I was dismayed that he couldn't even stop the chef from disrespecting me.

I felt really uncomfortable as I was still dressed in my birthday dress.

"Why are you doing this to me, Eric?" I asked as a tear dropped from my left eye.

"Do as the chef says." He replied and I frowned.

"I'm not meant to do this." I said, immediately, and I tried to stand up to my feet. But then my ankle twisted and fell back down with a loud thud.

"Hmmm…" I groaned, in pain and I heard Eric snicker.

"So pathetic. You can't even find your balance." He said and immediately he turned around like I was nothing.

My eyes watered and I sat upright, folding up my legs.

In just hours, my life had turned upside down.

I had even forgotten that I had turned 18.

"You have thirty minutes." The chef declared while he glared at me.

He had a malicious and dangerous look in his eyes and I knew if I did not do as he says, I would get punished.

In the next second, the chef marched out of the kitchen and tears poured uncontrollably from my eyes.

I stood up to my feet and looked at the amount of dishes I was to wash.

I did not know where to start from but then I knew I had thirty minutes.

Thirty minutes later, the chef barged into the kitchen.

"Are you done?" He asked and I shivered. His face was scary as his tone had something lurking in them.

"I-i'm…" I tried to explain myself as I was only halfway done.

"You're just a spoiled brat." The chef declared and in the next moment, he took hold of my hair.

"Come here." He yelled as he continued to drag me by my hair.

"Let me go!!" I screamed as I held onto the chef's hand for dear life.

I did not know where he was dragging me to but then I just wanted to be free.

In the next second, I was thrown to the bare floor and I groaned.

I could guess for sure that I would have a lot of bruises on my body.

"Emily." I heard a voice call out to me and immediately my head snapped in the direction.

It was the Alpha!

"Alpha…" I cried as I immediately crawled toward him.

It was like I had seen my savior and I was sure he wasn't aware of how everyone had been treating me.

I did not even care to tell him what the chef had done to me. I was concerned about my parents and that was why I was at the Alpha mansion.

"My parents." I said, in a strained tone.

"What about them?" The Alpha asked me and I was stumped.

"T-their bodies. I can't find their bodies." I said, in a shaky tone.

"You probably ate them." The chef said, in a low and respectful tone and immediately I was surprised that he had such respect in him.

"How did she get here? What are you both doing here?" I heard the Alpha ask and I frowned.

He had ignored my question about my parents and I was about to ask again but I was cut off.

"She stole a servant's money, Alpha." I heard the chef lie through his teeth and my eyes widened.

"What do you mean? I did not do anything." I refuted as I stood up to my feet.

I looked up at the Alpha and I saw the disappointed look on his face.

"You do not believe her, right?" I asked, as worry clouded my heart.

Stealing was an abominable offense in the pack and I was about to get punished for what I did not do.

"Why did you do it, Emily? You have all you need." The Alpha said to me and my lips quivered.

He knew I would never do a thing like that.

Why was everyone against me?

Frantically, I shook my head, trying to refute the allegation but I couldn't find any words.

"I did not do anything." I said.

"He bullied me, instead." I added, pointing at the chef.

Immediately, I expected the Alpha to rebuke the chef but it did not happen.

"He did not bully you, Emily. He wants you to be disciplined." The Alpha said to me, with a sweet smile on his face.

He talked so well that I couldn't refute him.

A tear dropped from my eye and I glanced at the chef who had a cocky smile on his face.

He did not think what he did was bad.

"I did not do anything…" I said, in a weak tone as a last attempt to defend myself.

"You have to be punished." The Alpha said to me, with a serious look on his face.

My breath was caught in my throat at his words.

"What would he do to me?" I asked myself, as I anticipated my fate.

In the next second, the Alpha beckoned onto a guard and I held my breath.

"Is he about to lock me up?" I asked myself knowing I couldn't afford to be locked up.

In the next second, I fell to my knees and pleaded.

"Please, have mercy, Alpha." I pleaded as I crawled toward him. My face held despair as I looked up to him while holding onto his feet.

"Let it be known that Emily Watson committed the crime of stealing." The Alpha declared and I shivered.

"What?" I was stumped. He was about to broadcast my supposed crime instead of punishing me on his own.

"No!!" I yelled, knowing I would be treated like shit by the pack members. Before I could plead, I was immediately dragged by the guard.

He caught me by the hem of my wet dress and immediately he dragged me across the floor.

At this point, I did not know what to do. I was powerless and helpless.

As the guard continued to drag me, my eyes caught sight of Eric. He had a cocky smile on his face.

I did not know everyone despised me this much until my father's death.

At one point, I wasn't aware of what was going on but in the next second, I was thrown violently on the front porch of the mansion.

"Hmmm…" I groaned, silently, in pain. Immediately I turned around, I saw the pack members gathered all around.

I wondered how they got here, in a short time.

"Emily Watson is hereby declared a shameless thief!" The guard declared and immediately, the pack members shouted.

In the next second, the guard took hold of my shoulder and straightened me up. I came face to face with the pack members and I witnessed the looks of scorn that was thrown toward me.

Immediately, a pack member spat at me and it went directly into my eyes.

"I did not do anything…" I said and I continued to chant those words, in a low tone.

I knew they could hear me but then no one wanted to believe me.

In the next second, a stone hit my head and I was drawn into thick darkness.

“Sire! Sire!”, a servant barged into their dining room at lunch, sweating profusely as he fell face down at his father’s feet. He didn’t look like any of their own, and recognizing him was difficult as he laid facing the ground. Coming into the presence of the alpha uninvited was a great crime. And no one else dared to ask you to rise but the alpha himself. On most days, he did, and on the others, well, you just had to lay there until he decides what to make of you. Often times, defaulters were punished. And the punishment meant cutting off one of their fingers. With this in mind, whoever decided to barge in on the alpha was either of two things: either brave or stupid. And this servant really did look stupid laying there that way. His only luck was the regalia he wore. He belonged to The Watsons. The alpha knew today was their daughter’s eighteenth birthday, and he’d received a letter of invitation. He’d been at a few of her birthdays, but this one was important. It was her

Panic and confusion was thrown in when The Order of their Elders consulted the Moon Goddess and she showed them a vision of who the new alpha was meant to be. It was a human. A weak, human male who probably didn’t know his entire life was about to change. He probably didn’t even believe in mythical creatures and would freak out if he found out that he was appointed as the new alpha of one of the most prestigious wolf families. The entire pack was thrown into confusion at this discovery, but nothing could be done about it. Although, there’s been a handful of wolf men in the past who were previously humans before they got turned, there has never been a case of one of them ascended up to the level of alpha, but now, not only was a human male going to be turned, he was also named alpha. There were doubts, but the Moon Goddess was never wrong. She never made mistakes, and for the

So why not? Why didn’t they?”, she continued with her thoughts, searching around with her eyes as if to find clue or answers scattered on the ground somewhere. There was nothing. Not even their scents were present anymore. She remembered when she used to go on missions like this, but this time the mission was different. It was to save a human, not to kill one. They move like a swarm of bats. Never alone. She wondered what they wanted to do with him and why they didn’t just feed off him. She was well aware vampires were involved in recent kidnappings due to their ability to move unnoticed and subtly, but this only occured with well planed strategies and fancy weapons and good cars and not this type of backstreet bullying. Whoever sent the men was either someone very influential who needed to trace him a lesson, or someone he had ratted out on. Someone who wasn’t very pleased with having him around anymore, but in the contrary, as she would later come to discover, it wasn’t either of the two scenarios she had made up in her head.
