Chapter 52

Alain took Eden's bag, held her hand, and asked softly, "You hungry?"

He didn't mention anything about the fight.

"A little," Eden said lazily, as if the fight hadn't happened at all.

"Let's go get a bite."

Eden nodded, saying nothing, and followed Alain into his car.

Ewan, trailing behind them, still hadn't recovered his composure.

Once they were all in the car, Horace wanted to ask Eden many questions but wasn't sure if he should. He'd had enough of being looked at like a fool by Eden. Another question, and he feared he'd forever be known as the fool to her.

The drive was silent, with no one saying a word.

Alain didn't ask Eden about the recent events either.

After they'd been driving for a while, Eden suddenly looked up and asked Alain seriously, "Do you know anyone who has untreatable diseases or is on their deathbed?"

Alain raised an eyebrow. "Yes."

Horace, curious, asked, "Why are you asking?"

Eden leaned against the car window and said sluggishly, "I need money."
