Chapter 9

Mike's POV

“Where is it?” I muttered to myself as my eyes scanned the table in front of me. I'd lost count of how many times my eyes had scoured the table, but it didn't change anything. I still couldn't find it. “Where the hell is it?”

A low hiss slid past my lips as I got up. I was sure I'd left it on my bedside table, so why wasn't it here anymore? Had someone snuck in and probably taken it? But who? Who would have come in here and taken it without my knowledge? My room was always locked, except for the night of the pool party.

Was that when it had been taken? I shook my head. It still didn't make any sense. No one knew what they were used for, so why would they take it? I just needed to find it. I'm sure it's in here. It just has to be here.

I headed to my wardrobe immediately. I swung open the wooden doors, and a loud creak followed, but I couldn't be bothered about that. One after the other, I pulled my clothes, before flinging them onto the bed. I didn't care about making a mess, that was what the maids were for. Frustration nipped at my skin when I got to the base of my wardrobe. It was empty and I still hadn't found what I was looking for.

There was just one spot left for me to search and it was my drawer.

“It better be in here or else.” I muttered to no one in particular as I pulled it open. A few items littered the little space, but I pushed them aside, searching for the one thing that had caused me to turn my room upside down in the first place.

With one more push, about three small bottles came into view.  I heaved a sigh of relief when the one I was looking for was a part of the first three. It was a bottle filled with suppressants Lilliana always used to take. I reached out to get it immediately, and I definitely couldn't help the grin that made its way to my lips.

With one push, I slammed the drawer back in its place, before heading to my bedside table. Once there, I pulled out a key and opened one of its drawers. Just sitting in the middle of the wooden compartment was a small sachet. I reached out for it and pulled out a single pill.

Goosebumps raced up my spine and my gaze darted to the door immediately. For some strange reason, I couldn't help but feel like I was being watched, but the moment my eyes fell on my locked door, I just knew I was safe.

With a flourish, I threw the pill into the bottle, before giving it a good shake. I shook it a couple more times, and I didn't fight the grin that appeared on my lips. It was sinister and I probably should feel bad about it, but I didn't, and that was the fun part of it all.

When I was sure the little pill had disappeared into the contents of the bottle, I turned to the mirror. Of course, I was the only one in the mirror, but there was something else. The determination in my eyes were to die for, and for a moment I couldn't help but be proud of myself.

I'd done a good job, and I'd be damned if I wasn't proud of myself.

After taking one last glance at the mirror, I slipped the bottle into my pants pockets before heading out. I knew exactly where I was going to, and my body thrummed in excitement.

In record time, I got to Liliana's room and without a knock, I barged in. One would think that with the amount of times I'd barged into her room, she would be used to it by now. But she wasn't, and the slight jump scare she had when I walked in was proof enough.

“Mike.” She let out slowly, her hand on her chest. She was trying to slow her breathing obviously, but I couldn't help but notice how her nipples stood erect, each bud calling out to me. “it's you. Why did you have to scare me like that?”

“I brought you this” I replied instead, choosing to ignore her question. Liliana knew better than to question me, so she reached out to grab the bottle. With the way she'd embarrassed me at the party, she knew I was being lenient with her. If I had really had my way with her, then she wouldn't even be in this room right now. “Drink up.”

It was a hassle hiding my grin as I watched her pop some pills into her mouth.

“How do you feel?” I asked carefully, only a few minutes after she had drank it. From the expression on her face, it was obvious she was already feeling better, but I still asked. “Better now?”

“Yes.” She nodded once, a small smile on her face. “I'm okay.”

If only she knew.

“Of course.” I didn't hide my grin any longer. A smug smile appeared on my lips, and it made it all the more worth it when I realized Liliana knew exactly what was coming for her. “I guess it won't be all that bad if this is your only source of happiness.”

“What?” Her face paled immediately. “What are you talking about?”

“Don't tell me you don't know?” I clicked my teeth in sheer mockery. Despite the fact that she was on her bed, she inched backwards when I took a step forward. “Or are you just trying to play dumb?”

“I..” she stuttered, fear dancing in her orbs. If there was any reaction I loved getting from her, then it was this. Definitely this. “I…. I don't…”

“Let me point it out for you then.” I cut her off. “You rebeled against me. You came down for the pool party, even after my warning. You thought you were so smart, but how did that play out? You embarrassed yourself.”

“Everyone knew it was you.” I continued, totally ignoring the pain etched into her face. “The useless, worthless and wolfless Liliana. What did you think? That coming out would somehow help you? Well jokes on you. I'll say it again, and over and over till it gets stuck in your head.”

“You'll forever be useless.” I let out the words slowly. “You're nothing but a piece of trash that will continue to be stepped upon for the rest of your life. You'll never be respected, you'll never matter to anyone, you'll never be anything more than the wolfless girl…”

“Mike…” her tiny voice reached my ears, but I pushed it back.

“You'll spend the rest of your life in the shadows.” I spat. “You're a fool if you think anyone will take you seriously. You thought a bikini was going to change that? Well, allow me burst your bubble. All you did was raise dicks last night. Do you know how many men bet on you yesterday? How you would make a good fuck and nothing else. How….”

“Stop.” She wasn't having it. With each word that slipped out of my mouth, I could hear her heart shattering all the more, but I couldn't bring myself to care. “Just stop….’

“Or what? The truth hurts but that doesn't mean I'm going to keep quiet.” I hissed. “All I've said isn't even the bad part. The worst part is you're going to die a failure.”

“Mike!” Her loud shriek was followed by an even louder clap against my cheek. She has slapped me, again, just like last night.

“Fuck you, Mike.” She hissed, her eyes blazing embers. Instead of the usual fear, pain, hurt and anger replaced the emotions dancing in her orbs. “Fuck. You.”

Without so much as another word or glance in my direction, she stalked out of her room, before slamming the door shut. Even as she walked out, I could hear her footsteps slapping angrily against the floor boards and even the hinges of her door rattling furiously.

A sigh slid past my lips, before my hand found its way to my cheek. It was funny, how the same action had repeated itself in only a couple of hours.

She had slapped me at the party, and just now. I let out a hollow chuckle.

She had disrespected me, but I was hardly focusing on that. Instead, my gaze had lingered on how her curvy ass jiggled with each step she took. Liliana was hot, and with the same intensity in which she scorched me, it could also be felt within me.

“You're staring.” A voice played in my mind, and I recognized it immediately. It was Spark, my wolf. “And really hard too.”

“I wasn't.” I hissed. He could tell I was lying, but would I admit he was telling the truth? Never. “You're out of your mind. You don't know what you're talking about.”

“But I do.” Spark responded. “And I also know she's your mate. Our mate.”

The mere thought of it was overwhelming. A mate was the most important part of a wolf's life. Every wolf yearned for his mate, they prayed to find theirs. Now, I'd found mine and there was no way I could be with her.

Not in this life, nor the next.

Liliana wasn't just my mate, she was my stepsister.

There was no way we could be together.
