Chapter 76

Pain.

I felt pain all over my body like I had been run over by a speeding truck. Multiple times.

I tried to open my eyes, but my lids felt very heavy. I tried to move, but I couldn’t.

Taking in a deep breath of air, I slowly opened my eyes, groggily taking in my surroundings. I was in a bedroom, but it wasn't mine. The room was dimly lit, with only a sliver of light peeking through the curtains. I tried to sit up, but a sharp pain shot through my head, making me wince. I fell back onto the pillow, trying to remember how I got there.

As I struggled to recall, a scent wafted through the air, familiar yet distant. My heart skipped a beat as I recognized the smell of Chase's cologne. I tried to sit up again, this time more slowly, and that's when I saw him. He was sitting in a chair beside the bed, his eyes fixed on me with a mixture of guilt and concern.
