Dayos POV;
Derrick, Esther and I stare down at the laptop and a lump of discomfort forms in my troath. I steal a glance of Esther from the side of my eyes and I see tears building in hers. I can only imagine the shame, fear, embarrassment and other negative emotions dancing about in her system.
I gently tap Derricks shoulder and he turns to look at me with slightly red eyes.
I nod lightly and he understands. He stands gently and moves towards me.
"A minute? "I say to the young woman who's staring at the laptops screen with wide eyes.
She looks at me and quickly composes herself before nodding. I lead them out of the room and once out, the young lady questions solemnly as she well understands the severity of this situation;
"Yes, what is it? "
I take a deep breath as I don't know how best to explain my reason for calling t
Dayos POV; I watched in pain as Esther cried in agony into her brothers shirt. Any woman would break down if such discovery should ever be made about her. I knew from the first time I heard her talk about him, that he didn't truly love her. But her love for him made it hard for her to tell right from wrong. Derrick looses all his strength and runs out of the room at the verge of tears. Causing the now weak Esther to almost collaps. I rush over to her and hold her in my arms. I battle the bitterness and anger raging in my heart. Itys so strong I can feel it banging against my ribcage under the guise of heart beats. I swallow as Esther holds on tightly to my arm. I wish I could calm her, tell her it's okay, tell her everything would be just fine, wipe her fears away and make her smile, turn her back into the bubbly young lady who my kids so much love, turn her back into the same Esther that ignores our ag
Narrators POV; Dayo drove himself, Esther and Derrick to the nearest restaurant. He knows Esther had not had anything to eat as they set out of the house very early I'm the morning and starving a pregnant woman doesn't seem like a good idea. They are all sitted round a table and Dayo calls a waiter. He orders white rice and stew with soft drinks for all three of them. The waiter comes back with his order and lays them before each person. "Eat. "Dayo says to Derrick and Derrick makes to complain but Dayo kicks him from under the table. He points at Esther with his eyes and Derrick understands. If he rejects food, how on earth are they going to persuade Esther to eat? Derrick has totally lost his appetite. Infact, all of them have, but to cajole Esther into eating, they have to put on an act. Derrick nods and scoops a spoon of rice into his mouth. The food tastes nice but Derricks taste buds seem to currently be on strik
Dayos POV; I walk back into the restaurant and return to my seat with Derrick and Esther. I find Derrick is almost done with his food and Esther is half way through hers. "I have a plan. "I announce before taking a spoon of rice into my mouth and the spoon dancing about between Esthers fingers on her plate stops dead. "Sorry, what? "Derrick questions and I roll my eyes. "I have a plan to apprehend himl" I reply. "Why not leave this to the cops? "Derrick questions and my brows furrow. "The Nigerian police? "I quiz in astonishment. Why is he talking like Someone who is unaware of how this country works? You commit a crime, have enough money to buy peoples silence and your freedom, pay the cops a candid amount, and boom. The police is indeed your friend. "Derrick, I have a feeling this would work. Let's apprehend the idiot firs
Narrators narrative; Derrick is sited in silence beside his sister. They are both glaring at the television but have their minds in separate places. Their father walks into the living room and furrows his brows when he finds Esther resting on her brother, and Derricks arm around her. It's been years since he saw his children this close to each other without yelling at each other, trying to show supremacy over the other, or fighting, and this seems like the perfect opportunity to tell his children what's been on his mind. After so many years of isolation and depression, he has finally found the little light bright enough to light up his world.
Esthers POV; I stand before the mirror in my room staring at my stomach. It's growing round and is becoming noticable. A woman on the streets I usually buy things from, even made an innocent joke about it. "Ah, madam, this one wey your belle don dey big like this, hope all dey well? "(Wow, madam, now that your stomach is getting big, hope all's well?) I was forced to laugh but it hit me. Every passing day slips into a week, which slips into weeks, and then another month! It would have been funny if I knew I wasn't pregnant, but it isn't funny cause I am actually housing a baby! Soon this pregnancy would be four months old, the whole world will soon see it. My father will soon notice! My life is sliping out of my hands and I'm battling to catch it with oily fingers. School was meant to resume a while back, but thanks to ASUU(Academic Staff Union of Universities) strike, we've been as
Derricks POV; "Opeyemi please. " "Don't come any closer! "She screams tightening her grip on the rail. "Ope, at least listen to me." I plead "No! Think I don't know what this is? I read everything! And to think I loved you! "She screams. "Ope, I love you! This all one big misunderstanding. "I beg. "You think I don't know you're saying all this just to avoid my blood being on your hands? "She quizzes. "Ope! "I scold as I make to move towards her. "I said stay back! "She screams as she presses her body against the railing. "No, no, no please don't do it! It was a mistake. This is a misunderstanding. It's not what you think.... Calm down..." I beg in fear. Trying to make her see reason. "Liar! I saw everything. You called me another play thing.
Derricks POV; 'Hey hon, 'The message reads and I smile dryly at my phone. Lisa. Lisa has been the only person who has ever been able to clip my wings apart from Ope. I'm a sex addict and haven't been able to mend my ways. Even after Opes death, I tried, I really did, but as my people say, you can never keep a pig from filth for too long. I always end up going back. I kept changing girls like clothes, till I crossed paths with Lisa. I remeber when I first met her. I bumped into her at Next supermarket and couldn't take my eyes off her. Her mild but still striking resemblance to Ope stroke several cords in my heart. And one look at her elegant figure awakened the sex addict in me. That very day I paid for all she came to buy, helped her get her things to the car, and even got her number. Lisa is just a mysterious as my Ope used to be. So beautiful, calm, unpredi
Dayos POV; I was in my bedroom working on my laptop when Temi suddenly barged in and draged my doors keys. She ran out before I could say anything and next thing I know, Esther stumbles into the room and falls to the ground. I quickly rise to check on her. Honestly hoping she didn't fall on her stomach. "Bukola! "Esther screams. "You're not coming out till you and daddy settle your fight! "Bukola screams back and my eyes pop. What the? "What's going on?" I question Esther as I sqwat beside her and pull her up. "They think we're fighting." Esther replies and my brows furrow. "What makes them think so? "I quiz. Esther glances at me and suddenly becomes t ense again and overly aware of her environment. "I, I, I don't know. "She replies freeing herself from my grip. What is
Narrators Narrative; "You're getting too relaxed. This was not the plan!" He screams and the lady on the sofa shuts her eyes In annoyance. "You think I don't know that? Getting married to him was never part of the plan either, yet you told me to go ahead with it. You better figure something out cause this sh*t isn't happening!" She screams at the man. Walking off the sofa and moving to his front. "Calm down. I'd figure something out." He persuades as he takes hold of her shoulders. "You'd better!" She scoffs. Freeing herself from his grip. What's going on? We'd find out soon enough. Dayos POV; "I can't believe we wasted our time!" Derrick finally breaks the silence in the room. I knew his big mouth would be the one to open first. "Are you sure you got the right address?" He questions Esther who raises a brow at him. "Of course I got the right address. Do you think it's
Esthers POV; I walk into the open Space, continuously dragging my cross-shoulder bag over my stomach. It's been a week since kunle agreed to meet up with me. He's been playing on my intelligence for the past 7 days. Even Derrick and Dayo got frustrated. I have to admit, Kunle is a very wise guy. He's taking caution. Enough caution to make me fear the success of this plan. I am in a red three-quarter, pleated dress. I deliberately chose to wear something free in a bid to hide my belly. Looking at it, one would think I have eaten a bit too much and pregnancy will not be the first thought to cross their minds. However, I don't want to take any risks. *Where is he?* I hear my brother's voice question into the ear pods I'm wearing. I know we ought to have sort for something more discrete as a means of communication, but hey, this is Nigeria. The fancy devices we see in movies are not so rampant and easy to get here. They are so rear they almost
Narrators Narrative ; "What? "Dayo screams in panic as he hears Esther screaming his name. She runs into his room dancing and shouting while Dayo is on his feets staring in confusion. Before he can comprehend what's going on, Esther throws herself at him and wraps her legs around his waist. Causing Dayo to have to hold her back to avoid her falling and him toppling over. Esther is too excited to notice she's in the air and that too in Dayo's arms. She soon realizes this and quickly releases her legs and comes down. "Oh my goodness. I'm so sorry. "She apologizes as she dusts his shirt. Unnecessarily attempting to smoothening out the wrinkles she caused it. Dayo gently moves her hands away and questions. "What happened? " "It's.... It's .. "Esther makes to speak but can't catch her breath so she points her phones screen at Dayos face. Dayo has no idea what to look for, or
Narrators Narrative Derrick looks up too and his eyes widen when they fall on Rose. She is, or was the manager of the imperial hotel. The same one they couldn't find and the same one who got Derrick, Esther and Dayo, the video they lost. "You? "He screams in alarm and Tobi just stares. Dumbfounded and confused. "Can someone please explain what's going on here. "Tobi finally speaks. Snapping the other three out of their staring contest. "Wait, she's your sister? "Derrick questions Tobi and Tobi nods slowly. Unsure of what will happen next. "Oh, thank you Jesus! "Derrick screams falling to the ground and Dayo explodes in laughter. "I can't believe this. "Dayo manages to exhale amidst his laughter. "What is going on? "Tobi questions again. This time with impatience. "Tobi, this are the guys I told you about. The ones I lost my job for. "Rose replies and Tobis eyes widen.
"What? "Esther screams when Derrick informs her about what happened earlier at the hotel. "You see! You see what dad has done? "She screams and Derrick just stares as his sister is throwing a tantrum in Dayos dining room. "Look, I don't even see the point in all this. I mean, my life had officially stopped a months ago! This child in my womb put a full stop to alot of things in my life. Why can't I just live with this? Why don't we just let Kunle be? There's no point in all this madness. We'd only make the soil on my name thicker. I've had enough disgrace for a life time. Let's just give this up. "Esther begs as she breaks down in tears. "Esther, don't.. "Derrick makes to persuade but this causes her to snap. "Don't what? Don't cry? Don't accept the pure fact that my lie is totally ruined? Don't accept the fact that I'm done for? It's over for me, Derrick! "Esther screams rising to her feet's a
Kunles POV; It's been weeks, sorry, months since I last set eyes on Esther. I miss her. Her sassing, beauty, tantrums, jokes, pranks. Everything. She used to go out of her way to please me. She has a very overprotective brother but always found a way to cut corners to be able to spend time with me. Esther is beautiful and simply unique. Truth be told, I always knew Esther was hiding something from me. She acts all badass around me but I know she's just a fragile little lily. I remember once when I took her to a pub and she requested a bottle of fanta. It took all the will power in me to avoid laughing at the expression on the bar tenders face. She quickly sensed something was wrong and requested something 'not too strong' she didn't even know what to ask for. And the other day, the other day I took her to a club, she was visibly shaking, but I acted unaware of this. I just love seeing how far she's willing to go for me.
Tobi POV; Ike's burial has been fixed. I called Ayo, Derrick and Dayo to be sure they are on their way and Derrick and Dayo told me they are there while Ayo still needs a lift. My little sister just lost her job and she's finding it difficult to stay home alone. Hence she opted to follow me to the burial of someone she doesn't even know. I'm older than Rose by a year but we behave like there's no age gap between us and sometimes, people often even ask if we're a couple. It's silly, but Rose always replies with a yes. Talk about a one of a kind sister. I remember once when she said so at a party. To the hearing of a girl I was hoping to later ask out. Long story short, I lost the girl cause she thought my sister and I were a 'couple'. "Rose! Let's go! "I scream for the third time this morning at my sister who won't come out of her room. "I'm coming. Just one minute! "She calls back. "You said
Dayos POV; "You will not raise your voice at me in my office! "The woman screams at me and anger explodes like a bomb in me. "Listen here old woman, my sister is currently going through so much pain and I will stop at nothing to help her. So if you get in my way, I shock you in ways you could never ever imagine. Do you understand! "I scream at her and the look of shock gets plastered on her face. "Derrick, "I hear my father call, but I ignore him. "Don't talk to me like that! I am old enough to be your mother! What sort of woman raised you? "She screams and for a split second, all I see is red."Don't you dare say another word against my mother with that black hole you call a mouth! "I bark at her and she jumps a bit. "Excuse you ma'am, I will not have you talk about my late wife like that. "My father replies and I clench my fist. Why does he find it necessary to explain th
Derrick POV; "Is this the place? " my father questions. Pulling up a little distance away from the Imperial Hotel. "Yes sir." I reply, staring at the hotel that began everything. The hotel where all these problems started. "Alright then. "He says as he drives towards the hotel. The gate man dressed in blue. A light blue shirt and deep blue Pants opens the gates for us and my dad drives in. In case you're wondering, I'm back from Lisas place. We came to a conclusion that our wedding would be a small secret one. One in which only our closest friends would be invited. We agreed that after having a small one, and we are legally called husband and wife, we can then proceed to having a grand wedding as her father would not be able to do anything about the fact that we are already married by then. And right now, I am with my father at the Imperial Hotel. He decided that, although Esth
