SKY POV

I was still in my little world, completely consumed by my own thoughts when my phone buzzed from my pocket, and I quickly fished it out. I glanced to the side to find Diego already cutting the cake, completely oblivious of my shock and terror. My silence drew him in.

“Aren’t you going to answer that?” He asked sitting straighter and glaring at the phone with me.

“It’s Tobias,” I announced the obvious, trying to figure out why the hell he would call me.

“Pick it up. I don’t think it's anything bad.” He assured in a smooth voice, but everything inside of me was screaming a loud incoherent WHAT THE FUCK as I just stared at the name flashing on the screen.

“I don’t think he called to wish me a happy birthday…” I mumbled because I knew damn well he wouldn’t just call randomly. Tobias was a stern old man I have known my entire life, but he was more like a granddad to me.

“Maybe he is..” Just then, the phone stopped vibrating, causing me to heave a huge sigh of relief. But that was short-lived because he called yet again, and I knew that whatever it was, it was damn serious.

Looking at Diego who nodded once with a small smile, I clicked on the green icon, and his old, raspy voice boomed in the speaker,

“Skylar, your presence is required at the manor.” Not a hey, or how are you, always straightforward without wasting words.

“Ahhhhmmm… I cannot come by today. I have…” “Madam and Sir have returned from their trip, and you should be here before the end of today. You have to come.” His words held some kind of urgency and I knew that things weren’t really pretty. My parents’ presence was a big no-no for me and I would do whatever it takes to avoid them. Unfortunately this time, I couldn’t.

“Okay, Tobias. I will be there.” I said, defeated. If I knew this day was going to end up like this, I would have driven out of the state and gone somewhere far, where I will be unbothered. But still, I couldn’t break the tradition. Spending my birthdays on my sister’s grave has always been something that made me feel connected to my origin. Apart from that, I was just a Campbell in a name.

“And Skylar?” He paused. “Yes?”

“Happy birthday, young miss.” A huge grin split on my face as I imagined that old face stretching into a small smile. Although Tobias was stern and that kind of person you wouldn’t just share a good laugh with, he had a heart of gold.

“Thank you, Tobias. Thank you so much.” I was almost emotional.

He hung up and I let the phone drop to between my legs, then glanced at my sister’s grave, silently begging her to help me out of this.

“What was he saying?” Diego who was almost forgotten suddenly asked. I glanced at him with a sad face and pouted,

“Mom and dad. They are back from their long 'honeymoon' and they want me to go home.” I said in an exasperated voice, already dreading the drastic moments I was going to spend in that house.

“Come on.” He nudged my shoulder gently, “I am sure it's not that bad. Besides, they made it home for your birthday.”

“Oh, I assure you, darling, that is not the case,” I replied rolling my eyes. There was no way in hell my parents came home just for my birthday. Trust me if that were the case, this sky would have been yeeting sausages!

Arriving home 2 hours later, I pulled the car into the driveway and greeted Noah, one of the man servants who was ready to take my car to the garage. Walking into my childhood home didn’t faze me, not even slightly. Instead of being excited by the idea of being home after… a whole eternity, I felt cramped, wanting nothing but to escape to my penthouse in the city. My family was rich, and that meant I had a few things to burn. A nice penthouse overlooking the busy Atlanta, a Porsche truck waiting for me in the parking lot… rich bitch syndrome!

Much better than all of these…

“Young Miss.” Maya, our head maiden and chef called out pulling me in a hug and kissing my cheek. I returned the hug and rubbed her back.

“Maya.” I greeted back. “We missed you. The house is so empty without you.” She said holding me by my arms.

“Oh, I am sure you guys manage so well without me.” She scoffed at my response.

“Come, they are waiting for you in the study.” And with that, I knew that it wasn’t just about parents missing their daughter. There was something fishy. Maya knocked on the door before slowly pushing it open, and I followed her in.

“Madam, Sir. The young miss has arrived.” She announced gesturing for me to step further into the room.

“Mom, dad.” I waved awkwardly as I took in the sight of my birth parents. My dad was sitting behind his big oak desk with my mom standing right beside her, looking like a power couple from the magazines. I tell you, not even Obama and Michelle held a candle to them. Mom was dressed in a white bodycon dress which hugged her perfect figure well. She had her usual heavy jewelry all over her, I am talking rings and watch and bracelets. You name them. My dad was wearing a navy blue suit with a wine red tie and a white shirt, and they looked so perfect standing there.

“Skylar.” Mom stepped from the table and made her way to me. Everything inside of me froze as she pulled me in a hug and kissed my cheek, but it was so quick that in an instant, it was gone, and I was glad. Her embrace felt so foreign and strange. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciated my parents, they gave me a fancy life. I do wish I could say the same with them. Thing is, they didn’t really like me much, because instead of following Samantha’s path and majoring in business studies, I chose something entirely different.

Fashion.

That, followed by Samantha’s death that happened on my 18th birthday, well… let’s just say it all left a bitter taste in their mouths. So you get the idea…

“Maya, don’t prepare dinner for us. We are eating out today.” Dad announced, shocking me even further. What in the rotten bananas was all of this?

“Okay, sir. And the midnight snacks?” She asked on her way out. “Just the usual.” Mom was the one who replied, already making her way back to her husband’s side. Maya left shortly after that, leaving me in a lion’s den and making me wish I could be anywhere rather than here.

“So you are finally 22.” It was the way my dad said that made a sheen of cold sweat drizzle down my spine. It was humorless, cold, with not even a single emotion attached to it.

“Y-yes, dad,” I replied, eyeing the door which was near, yet too damn far.

“That’s great. We are going out tonight. You should dress well. Sweetheart?” He looked at my mom who beamed with the biggest smile ever as he pulled something from my dad’s drawer. A long black, velvet box. She gently placed it on the tabletop before pushing it with her finger and nodded to me. On unsure steps, I walked closer and took the open with shaky hands, then opened it to reveal a beautiful customized diamond pendant with my initials on it.

SCC

They were in beautiful italics that made my heart melt. I brushed my finger on the finely cut diamonds and looked up at them, but something about it was oddly familiar.

“It’s beautiful,” I said softly before refocusing my gaze on it. “It is, isn’t it? Now go get ready. We don’t want to be late.” Mom replied, already fed up with my presence. I nodded before turning and leaving. Right before I could open the door, I turned to look at them,

“Thank you. This is the best gift ever.”

“Oh, darling. This is nothing. The best is yet to come.”

If only I had known the meaning behind those words

WOLF POV “You do know that you don’t have to do this, right? You can acquire Campbell Atlantic using other means.” Cassie or I should say, my dear mother whom I loved dearly, said the same words for the umpteenth time since we flew to Georgia. I turned to look at her, ready to give her my piece of mind, but then she walked closer and smoothed my tie for me, knocking all the words from me.“I know. But it has to be done.” I replied softly, then tugged the stand of her hair behind her ear. She gave me a small sad smile before nodding, then cupped my cheek gently. I pulled the chair for her and she sat down. “They should be here now.” My dad, Arthur, announced glancing at his expensive wristwatch, then fixed his own tie and looked forward, with his everlasting hard gaze that would freeze you to the core. One of the things I inherited from him. I pulled my own seat on my mom’s left and then perched myself down. Right in the cue, the door was pushed open, and in came the maître d who ge

SKY POVNow you know how I ended up marrying my sister’s fiancée.For the next 5 days, I locked horns with my parents and the rest of the world over the idea of marrying Samantha’s fiancée. Not only was it disgustingly humiliating and revolting, but it was also a big insult to my late sister and everything she has worked hard on while she was still around. Although I was inclined to go down trying, I gave up eventually, because I was fighting a losing battle and I was not on the winning side.As soon as my mom opened her mouth, then screamed into my face that I should have been the one to die in that accident, at least Samantha would be around to make this family proud, and then proceeded to stomp off crying, I hung my head between my shoulders and surrendered. The look of pure disappointment on my dad’s face was a nail in the coffin. Of course, the public had their own opinion as well. I tell you, as soon as we left that fancy restaurant, the word of our wedding spread like wildfire

SKY POVIf I were to choose, I would rather take part in a diabolic rat massacre than be cramped in here with a lump doing gymnastics in my throat, feeling all of the judgment and hatred cast towards me by literally, everyone. This reception was far worse than what I had hoped for, heck. It was the worst ever. Because all of sudden, it had turned into some sort of business elites banquet of which 98% of them, were once Samantha’s servants. By servants I mean they all worshipped her. So you can just imagine my situation. I hated it, all of this. I didn’t want to be here.“You are the most saddest bride I have ever seen in all my life.” Cassie’s voice said behind me, and I turned to find her there with 2 wine glasses in her hands.“Am I that obvious?” I asked with a cringe, and she returned it with a small smile before handing me the other glass of wine. I accepted it and took a good swig before refocusing my attention on the crowd buzzing in the lobby of the Smith's manor. I spotted my

WOLF POVEnraged? No. No, I was not. That was not the emotion that swirled inside of me right about now. Shaken? Maybe. I couldn’t quite put a finger on it.For the rest of the night, all I could think of was the pain evident in her eyes after slapping me. She fuckin' slapped me, but she looked as if she had been violated in the worst ways that I could possibly think of. Her eyes glistened with tears and her throat bobbed from the suppressed pain. But I didn’t get it. How could she play the pity card when she knew damn well what she did? Why put all the victim’s acts when she knew right in her heart that her selfishness knew no bounds? She fuckin’ killed Samantha, I knew it, and everybody knew it. Even her own damn parents knew it for goodness sake. So it didn’t make sense. She wanted pity. That's what she wanted.“Get up,” I said overlooking her sleeping figure. Just looking at her made me want to strangle her in her sleep. But not now, she hadn’t signed the damn contract. She proba

If that was my fate, being judged and mocked, being accused and hated for all the wrong reasons, then fuck hate, fuck people, and fuck everything else.I was the one in charge of my own fate.Scanning through that contract, I thought it would hurt to find that my parents disregarded me that much. But weirdly, it didn’t. I was used to being overlooked by them and it didn’t matter anymore. I was now my own person, and Campbell was no longer my last name.I was a Smith. And that only was enough because like my last name, everything else was in for the change.Going downstairs after my little encounter with

WOLF POV“How is it being married?”Kennedy’s voice called out from the receiver of my phone. I heaved out a huge sigh before responding, and the fucker went down with a fit of laughter.“Is it that bad?” I am very glad that he found my misery amusing. He deserved the award for being the best friend in the entire world,“Let’s see, from being slapped on your wedding reception, to being told to ‘go fuck yourself where the sun doesn’t shine and to being compared with a giant pimple in the ass, which of course, hurts, all in a span of 12 hours after the wedding, I should rather say, marriage life is fuckin’ great..” Note the sarcasm. But that didn’t stop the dickhead of a friend I have, because he laughed even harder. At some point, I found myself laughing along with him. Just the mere thought of the recent events was screwing with my mind.“She sounds like a breath of fresh air. I can’t wait to meet her.” Yeah right, only Kennedy got to be smug around me, and then actually got away wit

SKY POV “This place is amazing.”I commented running my hands on the smooth black marble countertop on the kitchen island, then glanced behind me at the giant cupboards that were literally, a floor and a half up from the ground. This house had to be like, a model house. Something put there just for show and for everyone to admire. Nothing else, and definitely not one to live in.It was extravagant. The interior, the décor, the structure itself, because everywhere my eyes landed, all I could see was glass that was blended perfectly into the cemented and painted walls. The railings, the stairs, even some of the pillars, were nothing but pure glass. and it was beautiful. “So, you like it?” Cassie stood opposite me on the other side of the kitchen island, hands clasped on her chest as she anxiously waited for my response. She had to be shitting me. This…“Are you kidding? This is insane. In all honesty, I have never, not even in my wildest dream ever thought of something like th

WOLF POVSumming up my day and subtracting the distracting pictures I received from my mother, which were now, of course, in my phone's trash can, today was…. AMA-ZING!And it would have ended even better if my father didn’t force me to go to my ‘marital house’ as soon as I clocked off from work. On a very serious note, I was looking forward to our drinks with Kennedy. I had a lot to tell him, a lot to share with him about how proud I was of all I have achieved, and how I was going to work harder to steer this ship to sail in the right direction. But no, he and mom had other plans. And those plans included… you guessed it. Skylar Candy Campbell. I meant Smith. She was a Smith now and she was tied down onto me. Couldn’t life get any weirder? Arriving at my mansion, it felt suffocating. Not because I was going to meet my nemesis of a wife, but because this house only, the very structure and architecture of it, had been reserved for something great, something beautiful and most definite

EPILOGUE ~A YEAR LATER~SKY POV“Are you ready?” Arthur’s rough gravel voice called out from behind me causing my eyes to move from my reflection and land on his in the mirror. Dressed in an emerald green suit, he looked like a model who jumped straight off the photo shoot booth and came here to bless my day. Even though he had faint gray hairs in his thick mane, he looked his part and he knew how to pull one just the right way. I smiled heartily and stepped out of my seat, then walked to him and gave him a big hug.“You look amazing.” He said before accepting my hug, then rocked me side to side for a good minute and pushed back,“Kayden is going to lose it.” He said causing me to chuckle. “Now you're only exaggerating.” “He is not.” Samantha stepped from behind Arthur, dressed in an olive green gown that hugged her body well, only to split in half when it reached her thigh and pooled around her legs. To say she was beautiful would be an understatement.“Everyone is beginning to th

SKY POV~TWO MONTHS LATER~“One more surprise, Kayden, I swear you will marry yourself.”I huffed trying to push my big tummy forward and cradled my waist with my hands from my behind, then annoyingly stared at my husband-slash-fiancée who came out of the living room trying to hide his laughter, but only to fail miserably upon my clearly unfazed expression. He walked into the lobby to find me waiting for him, glaring at him and wanting nothing but to hurt his pretty face.“And I promise, this is the last time.” He tried to smooth as he walked passed me and placed himself right at my behind, with his front pressed against my back. I fought the urge to lean back into his hold and decided to stand my ground. I wasn't going to allow myself to be swayed.“Come here.” He didn’t wait for me to refute, no. Instead, he rounded his arms around me and supported my tummy from beneath, then gently lifted the bulging weight that was seriously going to kill me one of these days. I was well at the 39

KAYDEN POV“SURPRIIIIIIIIIIIISE.”The rest of the squad cheered as soon as I yanked off the blindfold from her face. She remained stoic for a few heartbeats before her mind slit back to the present, then started laughing and crying at the same time as she received hugs from the girls. The boys knew that stepping close to my woman was a big no-no, and that my pregnant woman was as unreachable as the stars. So they did all they could and stole kisses on her cheeks, which was still unacceptable, but then again, I decided to let them have their moment since they were enjoying this more than they probably should. 30 minutes later, we were seated on the floor watching as she opened bazillion presents bought by our friends. Honestly, I didn’t know they would go above and beyond for this thing, especially when I have all organized it in a short period of time. It didn't even take the full 24 hours but they were all in. “I kind of knew it was coming so I started preparing gifts,” Oli reveale

My daily life was impacted extremely and I knew it intimately I was going to have one hell of a hard time bringing the cubbies to life.It was safe to say the pregnancy wasn't all bananas as I had hoped, but with all that pain and struggle came love I never knew was possible. Kayden was aware of my struggles and how the pregnancy was taking a toll not just on my body, but on my mind as well, and my man did all he that was in his power to share the burden with me. As much as it hurts every day considering how big I was, I was really not complaining because this time, I got a very fair share of a partner who supported me greatly. He was with me all day long and gave up half of his work life just to be by my side. SKY POVThe day flew by faster than I had anticipated. Cassie insisted on going here and there without getting rest and by now, I was beaten up so bad that all I wanted was to soak my feet in a tub of warm water and take a small nap. I was really tired and all of these seemed rather pointless.I get that she wanted to spend some time with me, do the girls’ things and shit, but I was so tired, especially after loitering the whole day. But then again, the look on her face made it all worth it. I don’t remember the last time she was this happy, so outgoing with a buoyant smile on her face. So I just let her have her moment and didn’t fight her.As promised, Kayden showed up after a short while to find us seated in a coffee shop with some dessert in front of us. As soon as he stepped into the building, I felt this magnetic pull that had me gazing in his way and there he was, dominating the small space looking like something sculpted by the gods themselves. He was dressed neatly in a blu

KAYDEN POVWaking up the way I did had to be, hands down, the best way a man can ever do. For the rest of the day, I had a slight jump in my steps and a burst of laughter in my voice. And there could ever be the only reason why I looked like I had a loose screw in my head. Skylar Babe Smith. It was safe to say that, that little sweetheart made me the happiest version of myself. And with every day that passed, there was no believing that I had the opportunity to be the one that woke up beside her in the morning. The way I was, the way I was smiling from time to time, I am damn sure I looked nothing like the usual sour wolf who wore an angry scowl for more than half of my life. And frankly, I didn’t care. I may have tried to keep my cool, and be the badass man I used to be, but it was just too impossible. And concealing the feeling I had didn't sound much like a thrilling idea. I was happy, and the whole world deserved to know because just a mere thought of that little vixen had my he

SKY POVThe morning sun streaked across the room, bathing the surrounding with its glorious halo signaling the birth of the new day. A hot, soft yet heavy arm snaked around my waist, absent-mindedly pulling me closer to a wall of muscles and cocooning my back in a rampage of loving heat. A soft giggle escaped my lips when I felt a hot velvety rod nuzzled between the cradle of my naked butt cheeks, and the wild vixen in me prompted me to shift a little, just to get it moving. My moves were rewarded by a small groan and shallow breathing, as he continued frolicking around the comfort of his subconscious. The arm securing me in his hold tightened around me, and I fought a little to turn so that I could face him and stare at him sleeping happily. Gazing at his hard, yet soft features, my mind was suddenly flooded with all kinds of thoughts, especially the occurrences that had gone down the past few weeks. All the pain, all the hurt, only because of one big misunderstanding? That had to be

KAYDEN POVAlmost before her feet could touch the ground underneath the car body, I was right in front of her already hoisting her up in my hold. A small giggle tore from her lips as she circled her arms around my neck, her head resting on my shoulder. If I was not already madly in love with her right now, I swear I would have fallen right at that moment.“I can walk you know?” She said in a little voice, and I was happy that she wasn’t fighting me on this one. I gave her a slight nod as I continued my strides toward the house, being careful not to rock her body and God forbid, hurt my babies inside of her body. To think that there were little almost-humans baking in there, it was something so surreal that made me shudder whenever I thought of it. This beautiful woman was making my life complete in all the ways I never knew I lacked.“Kayden, come on. I am pregnant, not dying of stage 76 cancer.” She retorted and it was my turn to laugh. She can be so hilarious when she wants.“I neve

He returned from the door with a sly grin on his face before plopping himself right next to me where I was nuzzled cozily with blankets and shit.“Cut him some slack, will ya?” I threw a small cushion that was stuffed behind me to support my back, at him, and he expertly caught it before leaning back into the chair. “I don’t think I am ready to tell him that I have forgiven him.” He confessed causing my lips to drop in a lope-sided smirk.“So you are just going to keep him on his toes and have him guessing?” “That’s kind of a point yeah.” He huffed before staring blankly into the space.“He is the father of my god-kids, and yes he is really trying to make up for all the shit, and honestly, I am moved.” He clutched his chest and then let out a loud huff, facing me. I couldn’t help but snort out a very unbecoming sound.“
