Isobel

“Moonlight, please listen to the secrets in my heart?

I am a man on a journey, just trying to find my part.

Whisper to the stars, let them carry my plea.

For love and acceptance to come and set me free.”

A smile formed in my lips I listened to my favorite DJ and singer, Midnight Wolf. The soothing melody of his voice filled my room, casting a comforting spell on the bitterness of the day. Whenever I'm feeling down or having an awful day, the only safe place I want to be is nothing other than my radio, drowning myself in the voice of my favorite werewolf idol.

Midnight Wolf wasn't just a singer; he was my anchor, my guiding light through the rough seas of my unfortunate existence. Listening to his voice was my sanctuary, a refuge where I could escape the harsh realities that often weighed me down. His lyrics spoke to the hidden corners of my heart, resonating with the struggles and yearnings I dared not share with the world.

As the final notes faded away, so did the troubles of the day.

"That’s all for tonight, folks. I’ll talk to you all again tomorrow. This has been your Midnight Wolf, Adios!" His farewell marked the end of another musical journey, leaving me in a state of bittersweet longing.

“Adios, my Midnight Wolf,” I whispered, grateful for another trip to dreamland with his music. I turned off the radio, held my cheeks, dropped my body on the bed, and swayed my little feet from the edge of the bed. The daydreams of Midnight Wolf singing in front of me produced many butterflies flying around my tummy. The sparkles and sunshine he produced were enough to knock me down on my bed.

I got up and dashed towards my desk. Midnight Wolf’s face remained a mystery, making me one of those who tried to imagine what he looked like. I quickly grabbed the worn-out sketchpad and flipped its pages. Several sketches of a guy holding a guitar with different appearances were inside. There was a sketch where the guy looked muscular and handsome. The other sketch looked like a nerdy guy with a cute face. And another one with a bad look but has gentle eyes while the rest were unfinished sketches. I hugged the sketchpad and smiled, hoped that one day, I would get a chance to meet him in person.

“Your voice always saves me. And for that, I will always be grateful. Thank you, my Midnight Wolf.”

I began writing my name and his, while drawing a tiny heart in between. “Isobel Reeves loves Midnight Wolf.” The Sound I made when I said it aloud was enough to make my heart flutter, a feeling that couldn’t be explained. This was one of those moments in life that I wanted to relive over and over again, healing the wounds of my challenging life.

I was born as a half-breed, a living reminder of the forbidden mate bond between a wolf and a human. My father, the Alpha of a pack called Sunflower, went against the rules of our world for the love of his fated mate. Leaving his title and his old life behind, he chose a life in the human world to be with his mate, hoping for happiness and peace he desperately craved.

In the beginning, the human world offered us comfort. However, fate, with its unkind twists, had other plans for us. When I was just two years old, tragedy struck. My father, the Alpha who had sacrificed everything in the name of love, experienced betrayal from supposed human friends who sold his real dentity to some hunters that resulted to his untimely death. Although my mother and I managed to survive that fateful night, we were left to confront the harsh reality of trying to survive alone in this cruel world.

Driven by desperation, my mother returned to Sunflower Pack, seeking help from the very beings who harbored an intense dislike for her. Out of respect for my father, my dad’s sister, Aunt Lydia, reluctantly accepted us, but this acceptance came with a significant cost. As a human and a half-breed in the den of werewolves, we were relegated to the lowest rungs of the pack hierarchy, forced to live as omegas in exchange for a roof over our heads and some food on our plates.

As I clung to the idealized image of my idol, a commotion outside caught my attention. Without hesitation, I hurried to see what was happening, my heart racing with worry. There, I found my mother sitting on the ground, facing the wrath of my furious Aunt Lydia. A simple accident had led to water spilling on Aunt Lydia's dress, and the consequences for this minor mistake were severe.

“Why can’t you do a simple task? Are humans that dumb?” Aunt Lydia's words were filled with disgust, her anger evident. In her rage, she raised her hands, ready to hit my mother once more. This was something I could no longer stand idly by.

“That’s enough, Aunt Lydia,” I said, stepping forward with a determination fueled by my desire to defend my mother.

Aunt Lydia wore a sinister smile, with a cruel satisfaction written all over her face. “Well, well, well. So, the despicable hybrid has now learned to disrespect the hand that feeds her. What an ungrateful good-for-nothing cunt!”

The continuous battle for acceptance and survival in a place that deemed us inferior was a challenge my mother and I confronted daily.

“I own you and your trash of a mother! Remember that! As long as you’re here, you have no rights over your lives. If you don’t like my ways, you are more than welcome to leave.”

She seemed to enjoy watching us suffer, displaying heartless cruelty. Aunt Lydia's hostility began when my father chose my mother over everything. Her hatred intensified when my Dad was killed in the human world, blaming my mother for losing the only family she had left.

Aunt Lydia turned to my mother once again, finding another excuse to humiliate and hit her.

“This is all your fault, Nancy! You bring nothing but trouble to this family. I hate you, you filthy human! I fucking hate you!”

Aunt Lydia raised her hand, slapping my mother like a madwoman. I could no longer stand by, prompting me to react in a way any daughter who loves her mother would.

“Let her go, Aunt Lydia! You've hurt her enough!”

I pushed Aunt Lydia away, unable to control the anger surging through me. Her eyes changed to golden yellow, indicating the extreme emotion raging within her.

“How dare you fight back, you filthy human! You don’t even belong in this world!! My husband was the only reason why you’re still here. Know your place, you damn humans!”

"Please forgive my daughter's actions. She was too young to control her emotions," my mother pleaded, caressing the foot of my monstrous aunt with her trembling hands. My heart broke, and a lone tear escaped from my eyes. Seeing my mother being disgraced like this was a tough scene to watch.

Lydia, enjoying watching my mother plead like a dog, summoned the omega leader.

“Make sure these humans will be punished. Double their workload for the rest of the week. As for my disgusting sister-in-law, make sure that you will deny her food for two days.”

“What? Why are you punishing my mother? She is innocent! I was the one who opposed you. It is I whom you should punish and not her!”

But Aunt Lydia smirked, “This is exactly how I want to punish you. Every time you dare to disrespect me, the weight will fall on Nancy.”

I couldn't bear the unfairness any longer, and we both watched as Aunt Lydia walked away with a sinister laugh. I rushed to pick up my mother, brought her to our tiny quarters, and helped put some antiseptic cream on her skin.

"I can't endure this anymore," I admitted, holding my mother close. The bruises on her arms mirrored the wounds inflicted on our dignity. “Nothing matters to me aside from you, Mom. Let’s leave this miserable place and go back to the human world. I don’t care about anything else as long as we’re out of here and you’re safe.”

Mom hugged me in return, gently tapped my back, and whispered.

“This won’t last forever, Isobel. In a week, you will attend Silverwolf University. I have endured everything these past few years because of this opportunity, something I couldn’t provide if we were in the human world. So, treat this as a lifetime opportunity to change your future. Soon, our tears and hard work will pay off.”

I held my mother even tighter, realizing how much she had sacrificed. Uncle Jerry, Aunt Lydia’s husband, assured me that he would send me to college, something my mother was afraid to lose if she were to oppose my aunt. So, she was forced to endure mistreatment from Aunt Lydia, hoping for the day I would graduate from college and find the courage to leave this pack.

I made a solemn promise to my mother that I would earn the diploma to free us from oppression. My goal was to graduate from Silverwolf and return to the human world for better opportunities. College was our way out, a ticket to a future where we could live freely.

I was determined to do everything necessary to graduate and give my mother the life she truly deserved.

I set aside my headset, stealing a glance at my manager through the glass pane. Spotting his approving thumbs-up, a sense of satisfaction washed over me as I exited the recording studio."Great job, Midnight Wolf!" he grinned, and I reciprocated with a high five. Surprisingly, despite the extended hours in the studio, I felt invigorated. The prolonged workday hadn't left me fatigued; instead, I could see myself thriving in this role indefinitely. My spirit wolf, Koa, teased me in my mind. "While other Alphas crave blood for energy, here you are, getting thrilled about music. You're truly a unique Alpha in the making.""Give it a rest, Koa. You're making me blush." Both of us shared a chuckle at Koa's good-natured ribbing. Our banter was abruptly halted by a knock on the door. The manager swung it open, unveiling a man on the other side. It was none ot

IsobelIsobel“I am so sorry, Isobel, but I cannot accompany you to your new school today. I have so many things to do.”I nodded quietly, expressing understanding. I felt sympathy for my mother as she apologized for her inability to join me. It was evident that Aunt Lydia was the reason behind it. She knew how much my mother looked forward to this day, which was why she did everything to prevent her from going. And yet, complaining wouldn't help our situation, a reality both my mother and I were compelled to accept. Defying her might only make things worse for us. It pained my heart to see my mother mistreated by my evil aunt, but I was determined to reach my goal to take her out of this miserable life."Wait until the summer break. Time will pass quickly. I'll be home and help you. I'll be a good student, no, I will be a great student you'll be proud of. I loved you, Mom," I reassured her. Mom got teary-eyed and hugged me tightly. It was the first time we were apart, and I could se

IsobelIt was the first day of school.I woke up early, ensuring that I left earlier than my sorority sisters to avoid any unnecessary confrontation. Unexpectedly, Crisha was up as early as me. Her kind-hearted nature compelled her to offer me a tour around the university. Crisha was in her third year and knew the ins and outs of every corridor within the campus grounds, making her a great companion on my first day at Silver-U.We walked around the school, trying to absorb every detail Crisha was discussing. I even jotted down some important notes in my journal, making me look nerdier than usual."Make sure to remember every corner. This university is big enough to get lost. If you lose your way and get late, it means trouble. I heard that they are really strict here when it comes to tardiness."“Gotcha,” I said, nodding my head in understanding. Scanning around, I could see how prestigious and exclusive Silver-U looked. The buildings were big and impressive, with beautiful lawns and

Ryle"If there was one thing I detested, it was she-wolves confessing their feelings to anyone they pleased. I staunchly adhered to the belief that she-wolves should only be pursued by their destined mates. I upheld the traditional 'old love' values of wolves. Consequently, every time a she-wolf confessed her feelings to me, I felt repulsed and offended. I harbored a strong aversion to any romantic advances apart from those from my fated mate, whom I had yet to encounter until now.Situations like what the woman in front of me did weren't new to me. And just like the other confessions before, I turned them down in the most ruthless way possible, discouraging them from continuing their affection for me. Just like what I did with the others, I tore their letters to shreds without an ounce of remorse. In fact, they should have thanked me because I was sparing them from experiencing more heartbreak if they opted to continue, as I knew they wouldn't stand any chance of winning my heart or

Isobel“You have no right to hurt Ryle. How could you insult and disrespect him like that? From now on, you are no friend of mine. You are nothing but a rabid she-wolf without manners.”I was taken aback by Crisha's sudden action, my hand on my cheek where her slap had landed. The force of it was unexpected, leaving me bewildered by her betrayal. I looked into her eyes, hoping to find some remorse, but I was shocked to see nothing. Doubts started to fill my mind, questioning if everything she had shown me in our friendship was genuine. How could she easily turn away from me? The whole situation felt unreal, beyond what I could have expected. It left me speechless.Ryle and his friends cheered from behind, finding entertainment in the unfolding drama. Ryle appeared to be equally surprised by Crisha's actions, though I wasn’t sure whether it was genuine surprise or not. But I could sense the satisfaction building inside him, knowing that he succeeded in his plan to inflict hurt on me.M

IsobelLorrie exchanged glances between me and our sorority sisters. I took a deep breath, prepared to hear their perceived versions of the earlier events. The girl behind Lucy spoke, "Ryle doesn't deserve to be slapped like that. Bullying is against the rules. This impolite she-wolf acted barbaric earlier. She doesn't deserve to be part of our sorority. She was probably out of her mind to target a kind guy like Ryle."“Isobel slapped Ryle Vanderberg? But why?” Lorrie asked, still confused. But Lucy was no longer interested in letting me defend myself. Instead, she explained the reason why they were tossing my things out. "As you all heard and saw, this ginger bullied our mighty Ryle Vanderberg. If the school finds out that she belongs to Ep-El, our sorority is at risk of going down. I am sure the owner, Ryle's father, wouldn't let this slide. We will not let our sorority suffer for Isobel Reeve’s stupid action.”With that, the rest of the girls agreed, plastering a grin on Lucy’s fa

Isobel I entered the small restaurant and asked about the job. No one was there, and there were no customers eating. It was early in the morning, and even though the place looked a bit old, it was quite nice inside. It was comfortable for eating or studying. It wasn't fancy like other shops near the university, but it was good enough for someone to eat and spend time with friends. I walked up to the counter and looked at the menu. The prices were reasonable, and the food they offered seemed suitable for students. "Hello? Anybody here?" I called out. It had been a few minutes since I entered to ask about the job. Then, a woman who looked around middle-aged came up. I noticed her face light up when she saw me. "Yes? What would you like to order?" she asked. I smiled awkwardly. "I'm sorry, ma'am, but I'm actually here to ask about the job. I saw the notice outside your door." The woman sighed. "I thought I finally had a customer." She then scanned me from head to toe and continued

IsobelI ignored the photos of myself hanging everywhere and went straight to my locker. But to my surprise, a pile of trash fell on my feet—my locker was filled with trash. Students gathered around me, recording with their phones. Lucy led them, holding her expensive phone and laughing at me."Sorry about that. School is a little dirty, so we decided to clean it. As you know, as one of the student leaders here, I must set a good example for our fellow students," Lucy said, trying to cover up their cruel actions. She then addressed everyone. "Luckily, Isobel Reeve is here to help us."Another girl behind Lucy added, "Don't worry, Lucy, we just put THE TRASH in the right place."Lucy laughed. "You’re right. It's actually a family reunion. Because Isobel here is also trash."Thea, who was also there, added more insults. "She deserves to be on the streets. Where trash belongs."Just then, the garbage juice dropped on my feet.“Ewww! "So the council members agreed with his delusions, huh?" I inquired, my tone tinged with disappointment. The head advisor nodded solemnly. "I was the only one who disagreed with the matter, Alpha. There's nothing I can do.""I see..." I sighed. My jaw tightened when the news hit my ears. I clenched the glass of scotch tightly before sipping its content in one gulp. The intoxicating liquid burned my throat a little but I didn’t flinch. Because more than the heat that this alcohol was giving me, it was my rage that kept me burning inside. "Letting that kid go would be an utter disgrace to the Vanderberg name. I refuse to tarnish the honor of my father just because of my foolish son."The head advisor offered a word of caution. "But Alpha... Your son appears resolute. It won't be an easy task to dissuade him."I took a sip of my scotch, contemplating the situation. "I know... And I have no one to blame but myself. If only I had taken immediate action against that lowly she-wolf. Perhap

Isobel Finally, the day of the concert arrived, and I found myself standing in line with my friends, eagerly awaiting our chance to see the Midnight Wolf perform live. Well, everyone except Thea, who seemed rather indifferent. "I don’t know why I agreed to this. I don’t even know that dude," Thea remarked, her skepticism palpable. But Lorrie, always the optimist, reassured her, wrapping her arms around Thea's and whispering, "Don’t you worry. Soon, you’re gonna understand the hype." She then turned to me, grinning mischievously, and whispered, "Sissy, once we're out of this concert, I’m gonna convert this dumb lady into a die-hard fan." I couldn't help but chuckle at her enthusiasm, while Thea looked on curiously, demanding to know what was being said. Lorrie smoothly deflected, "Oh forget about it… Just make sure to enjoy this day cuz' once you’re out of here, a new Thea will be born." Their deep respect for me as the alpha heir was evident as we all gathered in the council room, each of us curious about the sudden call.Regrettably, my father couldn't be present; important matters demanded his attention elsewhere. Nonetheless, I steeled myself and proceeded with the meeting. The council members, acknowledging my role as the future Alpha, listened closely, likely expecting news they had been anticipating for some time.Inside the council chamber, the weight of their expectant gazes pressed upon me as I took a moment to collect my thoughts. With a deep breath to steady myself, I began, realizing that this moment was no longer just a vision but a reality I had to confront head-on."Good day, everyone," I greeted them, my voice firm. Scott walked behind us happily. I shared in their happiness, especially since Thea had finally been welcomed into our group by Ryle and my best friends after a while. As for my bullies, Lucy and the rest of the Blondies, they were kicked out of Silver-U for their actions. They paid dearly for what happened, and even their own packs promised they would be punished accordingly.Without Lucy, Epsilon Elysium was left without a leader. The sorority decided to hold another election for a new leader. In the end, Lorrie unexpectedly won. She was hesitant at first, but eventually, she accepted the privilege.“How’s the new queen of Ep-El?

Isobel"I'll ask you again, child: Do you want to stay here with me?"It was a hard decision for me, but I knew my answer right away. It seemed like Dad understood what I wanted."Are you sure you want to give up this eternal happiness for a world that has only brought you pain and suffering?" Dad's voice echoed, showing his concern.I looked down, agreeing with Dad's point. The world I was born into was full of difficulties. Mom and I lived with shame because of something driven by love and sacrifice, their forbidden union. At Silver-U, I found some comfort among friends and even a wolf who became dear to me. But when I needed them the most, they all left, leaving me to face my problems alone. Pain and suffering seemed to be the only things that stayed with me in the world where I belonged. Despite my longing to be with Dad, his offer, though appealing, couldn't keep me here, not yet. There were things left unfinished, bonds I cherished. Maybe my idea of heaven was different—to be wi

IsobelI opened my eyes and found myself lying in the arms of an elder wolf. The old guy was smiling at me, and strangely, I felt comfortable, as though I knew him from a long time ago. Yet, I was certain we'd never met before. I tried to recall if we had crossed paths, but nothing came to mind. Still, being near him felt oddly warm, filling me with love and peace. As the mysterious wolf stood up and walked away, he beckoned for me to follow. My eyes remained fixed on him, drawn to his presence. When he spoke, his voice held a gentle command."Follow me..."And so, I did. Each step felt like a silent agreement with fate. His smile was reassuring as he guided me forward."Come here, look..."I turned my gaze to where he directed, and before us lay a breathtaking field. It was a scene of unparalleled beauty, one that I couldn't fathom existed. The elder wolf looked at me expectantly, asking a question that resonated deep within me."Do you love it?"I nodded eagerly, feeling a rush of e

IsobelI was left in shock by Kendra’s revelation. Horror coursed through me as I realized the truth. Kendra, whom I had initially seen as a kind angel sent to save me, was something far more sinister. I couldn't fathom that Kendra would stoop to such depths of cruelty. Jealousy, I realized, was a force more terrifying than I had ever imagined. I had always seen Kendra as perfect in everyone's eyes, but now, facing her dark side, I couldn't shake the terror creeping into my heart.Backing away from Kendra, I couldn't tear my eyes away from her as I pleaded, “Why? Why are you doing this to me?”Kendra smirked, her movements deliberate as she closed the distance between us. “Why? You should’ve known the answer, bitch. You took Ryle away from me. Ryle I panicked. It was me managing the steering wheel, trying to navigate through traffic as fast as I could. Everyone in the car wanted to get to Epsilon Elysium urgently, but for me, it was more than just a destination. Isobel was there, and I needed to save her from the torment caused by that vile she-wolf who framed her. Regret gnawed at me for not listening to her before, for losing trust in her. "Come on Ryle, I know you can go faster than this," Lorrie said, her concern evident in her voice. "Who said we're on top speed already?" I replied, pressing harder on the accelerator. We surged past other cars on the road, my driving becoming almost reckless in my desperation. Meanwhile, Scott's anger was palpable. "I never thought someone was capable of doing this vile thing.
