The woman screamed in pain as another wave of contraction hit her. Beads of sweat covered her forehead as she fell back on the bed in exhaustion, her husband trying to soothe her in any way he could.
“Push, Alana!” Irene said as she took another piece of gauze from the tray. “The baby is crowning. We’re almost there.”
Another groan left the woman as she prepared for impact. Her dedicated husband supported her in his arms as she tried one last time to expel her baby out of her womb. The operation theater froze at once as the shrill of the baby boomed in our ears. I watched as the woman’s eyes widened in surprise, and then slowly, her lips stretched into a grin. She looked at her husband in disbelief, joy erupting from both their faces.
