Rainora
Nice? I wondered as I returned back to my desk. Nikolas has never said anything nice to me before, so why start now. He just mocked my style of dressing yesterday, so why the sudden flattery. Maybe, he was been sarcastic again like before. I felt a huge lump in my throat. This suit was among the most beautiful collection in the store. Everyone kept starring at me since I got to the office today. What more can I do to impress him. I thought quietly. I hope he doesnt say we wasted his money and refund him back. No, he won't.I'm sure he doesn't even check his accounts. I assured myself. "Lost in your thoughts again, Rainora?"May gently tapped my desk. She stood impatiently holding some files to be signed. "Sorry May, something just happened in Mr.Nikolas's office." I responded as I hurriedly collected the files from her. "Dont keep me guessing Rainora, what is it? May demeanor became serious as she gazed deeply into my eyes. Like she was trying to read into my soul. "Mr.Nikolas said...I looked nice today."I replied nervously as I was unsure her reaction to what I just revealed. "He said what?" May gasped as she cover her mouth with her hand. She turned around to make sure no one could hear us as she leaned towards me. "He said you look..nice?Maybe you're mistaken. Since when I started working here over 7 years ago, I have never heard him compliment any lady at all." She said with disbelief in her eyes. I clenched my fists upset that she insinuate I made up something so huge as that. I took a moment to exhale, then I met her eyes again with resolve. "I wont lie on something like this, there was even Mr.Wren and the head of the accounting department Mr.Stevens. I caught him starring at me for a while before he uttered those words." I whispered to May. May pulled away slowly, her gaze became casual like she finally believed me. "In that case, you have to be very careful in this office. A lot of ladies are interested in him and will do anything to get his attention. If they fill you're a threat, they might try to get you out of the way." She said, as her demeanor became more compassionate that earlier. She lay her hands on my shoulder, suddenly I let out a sigh of relief and felt vunerable. I started to see May in a different light, more as a senoir sister that I never had. She smiled as she slowly walked away to her office with a reassuring stance. I was dropped at home some minutes past ten by gerald, Mr. Nikolas' driver. I waved to him to signal I'm done for the night. He gestured back as he slid the window up, before driving away in the black escalade. As I approached the lift on the ground floor of my building, a strong male voice called my name. "Miss Rainora, your in apartment 13 right." The man asked. He wore a maroon colored trenchcoat with black buttons. He also wore a hat, with a upper-lip mustache that was thick. He reminded me of an 80's actor. I had a grin on my face as I met his welcoming smile. "Yes, that's correct." I replied, he stood behind a desk watching the door. "Welcome to the building, my name is Bernard." He pointed to his nametag. " There is a young lady who said she is your bestfriend. I asked her to seat her in the lobby, till you arrive." He signalled his hand to the green cushion in the lobby. I saw a young lady with a black-fluffy jacket, also with black leather trousers and white designer label sneakers. I squinted my eyes and only one name came to mind. "Hey Eunice, what brings you here this late?" I asked. Her head was down looking at her phone, she didnt even realize i entered. She immediately stood up, rushed to me for a hug. "Rainora, you didn't tell me you were living this big? Your mails are still delivered to my house. So I brought them to this house address you texted me before moving out." Eunice amazed with the decorations and adonements arranged all around the lobby. "I was going to invite you for a house-warming party when I was done arranging my stuffs. But, since your here let me give you a priavte tour."I held her hand to follow me to the lift. Eunice kept looking all around till we reached my floor. She hurriedly pushed me away to enter the house as I opened the doors. She started running all over the house, checking out the livng area, cabinets and the bedroom. I dropped the keys on the kitchen table to grab a soda from the fridge. Moments later, she returned back to the living area. Where I sat down, stretching my legs watching the plasma tv. "Rainora, your living the dream. The view here is phenomenal." Eunice said, as she also went to the balcony. She returned back to sit alongside me, and took the spare soda I also brought out. "You never told me how you met Nikolas Woods, his one of the hottest bachelors in the city." Eunice asked, now her gaze become serious like I was under interrogation. "I got lucky I guess-" I ran my hands through my hair. I couldn't tell her the real truth how I met him. My life and the life of my family and friends depended on that secret. "He liked my resume and asked me to work for him...end of story." I snuggled towards her and held her tightly. She opened her mouth like she was about to say something, but probably changed her mind not to pry anymore about it. We both slept off watching tv together. In my heart, I wish that someday I can tell her everything between me, Nikolas and......my father.RainoraI went to Eunice's office days later.Vastoni Cooperation was among the top construction companies in the city. Their headquarters stood a high building, its unique architectural design gave it a distinct look that was visible all around the working area.I met a burly man who was fully armed and had an intimidating look at the entrance. There was a dangerous aura around him. He gave me a sinister smile as I walked into the lobby."Hey, pls I will to see Eunice Johnson, I'm Rainora." I said, the receptionist gazing with intently as she sized me top to bottom. I was on my way to work, before I stopped to see Eunice first. I work a purple suit-top and a pencil skirt that accentuated all my curves smoothly. She looked at me with envy."Do you have an appointment?" The receptionist asked. "I have a package for her. NikolasSeveral months passed, and Rainora was growing more involved in her work. She handled all my appointments efficiently. She rarely met with other staff members who tried to pry into my matters and private meetings. I found myself trusting and relying on her more often. I hired her mainly to watch her to see if she would reveal the events of the nightclub. Subconsciously, she slowly became less irritable. To reward her hard work. I extended to her a hand-crafted envelope, with golden-color designs at its edges."Should I fax it out, Mr. Nikolas?" Rainora stretched out to collect the letter. She looked very professional in her dark blue suit and pencil trousers."No... it's an invitation to a fashion show." I smiled as she received it. Her face went pale in shock. She froze as she couldn't believe what I just said. "It will be held tomorrow night. I will tell May to get you dressed for the occasion. I turned around and went back to my office. I always enjoyed seeing her face sho
RAINORA.I trudged down the narrow dirty street leading to our cramped old house, my chest tight withhumiliation. It still burned in my cheeks as I recalled the store clerk's impatient sigh, the murmurs ofthose behind me in line, and the pointed judgmental stares that followed me as my card had declined."I'm sorry, ma'am," he said, his voice even. "Your card's been rejected."My stomach had dropped as I frantically tried to explain, "Can you rerun it? There must be amistake."The clerk obliged, but the result was the same. Insufficient funds. I'd place back the foodstuffs one byone- milk, bread, eggs, rice- until only Arin's medication remained. Clenching my jaw, I handed over thefew crumpled bills I could scrounge from my purse and left the store, not holding anyone's gaze. Now, as I stepped onto the creaky wooden porch of our house, a wave of guilt, shame, and helplessnesswashed over me.The old house had weathered over time, its paint peeling off and clinging to the wood. RAINORA.I went down the steps of the plane, holding on tight to my little duffle bag. The humming noise of theairport was kind of unnerving as I took in the crowd of people. Through them all, I located Eunice. Herwhite blazer, tailored to perfection beneath the noon sun, complemented slim black trousers and sleekheels to a T as she waved exuberantly."Ray babe!" Eunice exclaimed as her face split in a wide grin.I smiled back shyly, walking briskly toward her. "Eunice, it's so great to see you.""Look at you," Eunice said, pulling me into a brief but warm hug. "Still petite and cute, as always. Howwas the flight?""Not bad. A bit bumpy, but manageable," I replied quietly."Good. Let me take that," Eunice offered, already reaching for the bag. "Come on, the Porsche is justover there. You must be starving. As we slid into the sleek red car, I took a moment to appreciate the luxurious interior. Eunice had alwayshad a knack for living well."Buckle up!" Eunice chimed, turning the k
RAINORA.A man, bound by wires onto a chair, bloodied, face swollen, streaked with tears, whimpered and beggedhoarsely for mercy.Across from him sat a tall, sleek man in a tuxedo with an unnerving calm, an air of authority. Two othermen stood off to the side, postures menacing. The man in the tuxedo murmured something, too low to hear."No! Please, I swear I didn't—" the bloodied man began, but his plea was cut off by a gunshot. One of the men had shot him in the thigh. The man in the chair screamed in agony, and I clapped a hand over my mouth to stifle a gasp. What wasthis? The tall man stood and, with unhurried movements, leaned in, whispering something into the bloodyman's ear. Whatever was said brought the man down in a fit of crying. My heart pounded in my chest as one raised his gun and shot the man in the head. Blood had splatteredagainst the wall, and the room remained silent.I stumbled backward, my stomach churning, bile rising in my throat. My shoulder hit the door, a
NIKOLAS.I sat at my desk, drumming my fingers against the surface. A file sat in front of me, and a name wasprinted in bold at the top: Rainora Adderman. Her face from the club flashed in his mind: wide eyes filled with fear, her delicate features framed byloose waves, and the striking contrast of her innocence against the chaos she had stumbled into. She'dlooked like an angel in the lion's den. An unintentional trespasser in a world that didn't welcomemistakes.I opened the file, feeling like I was opening Pandora's Box.Name: Rainora Adderman. Age: 22.Background: Hailing from a small town called Westbridge, her father had disappeared without a traceyears ago, leaving her mother to raise her and her younger brother, Arin, who was struggling with cysticfibrosis. Poor. She'd only recently arrived in New York, brought here by a friend's generosity--Eunice. She was workingtwo jobs: one as an assistant at Conway Law and another at a coffee shop in the evenings. RAINORA.I stepped into the apartment in a daze, my thoughts all jumbled. My hands shook as I locked the doorbehind me.Eunice’s cheerful voice floated from the living room. She was sitting on the couch, a jade roller glidingover her cheek as she chatted animatedly on her phone. She waved, her face lighting up when she sawme—until she took in my expression.“Hey, I’ll call you back,” Eunice murmured, her tone suddenly serious. She ended the call and set herphone down, studying me. “What happened? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”I hesitated, then moved to sit on the couch. I took a deep breath. “I’m quitting my job at Conway Law.”Eunice blinked, clearly caught off guard. “What? Why?”“I got a new job,” I said quietly. “I’m going to be a personal assistant at Woods Enterprises.”Eunice stiffened, her jade roller freezing mid-motion. Her lips parted, but she didn’t say anything rightaway. After a beat, she managed, “Woods Enterprises? As in... Nikolas Woods?”I nodded, my eyes

It was a high sky scrapper that reflected the sun on its clean windows. I was amazed on the modern architecture, its tall building stretched high to the clouds. It was truly a magnificent sight. "Keep the change." I tipped the driver, he smiled cheekily as he gazed at my maroon slim-fit suit. I didn't have any formal suit so Eunice borrowed me one of her high-end suits. It accentuated my curves so I could feel the driver undressing me with his eyes."Thanks...first day right?" He asked as he turned away. "Yes" I nodded positively. NikolasI sat in my office alongside Wren, my adopted brother who is also the Vice President and along with the Head of Accounting Erik Stevens. He's in his late thirties. He has clean-shaved face, wearing tailored made checked suit. He wore glasses that fit the oval shaped face."The partnership agreement has been sent to Empire Holdings successfully." Erik browsed through the numbers that I discussed with David yesterday. He had an intense look on his face as he was solely focused on his tablet.Wren and I observed him closely. He broke down all the account jargon so easily. He had the magic touch while balancing the accounts."This is a very good deal Boss." Erik's eyes wide opened like a child in a candy store. "Empire holding is a strong company. Their debts are short term. They have paid up most of their loans. The remaining was used for expansion. With the right guidance and discipline, their projection can reach a billion in five years." I and Wren gasped at the figure Erik to
NikolasI drove my new red sports car that made a huge roar when I gassed down the pedal. I had a meeting across town with Empire Holdings, a construction company that has deep ties in the city. They have been in operation for many years and have a lot of properties all over the town. Unfortunately, with high cost of materials and harsh economic policies, they had to down size their staffs and were overwhelmed by debt. In order to stay afloat, they were looking for partnership. A proposal was already sent to me, so I want to check their books before making a final decision.I arrived at their entrance, There was a burly man standing at front door. A valet came to pickup the car as I approached the door. The security man tried to stop me, but I gave him a cold stare that shook him. He quietly stepped aside. I met the receptionist who was blonde with blue eyes . Looking like a fairy princess. Her office top and suit trousers accentuated her figure. I came here for business, no time for

There were expensive paintings hung all over the house. Exquisite blue sofas were positioned perfectly in the living area facing the balcony. I couldn't resist opening its door to cherish the view of the entire city that reached far and wide. There was also the view of the park, filled with trees and a little pond with swans. There was a soft breeze that gently caressed my soft cheeks. I closed my eyes to take it all in. Like a queen looking down at her subjects. Life is pretty sweet up above. I humored myself. Nothing tastes better than success and riches. I continued my tour around the house, by checking the neatly clean kitchen with a stacked fridge filled with various provisions and drinks. The apartment had one bedroom, but it was spacious with a queen-size bed along with throw pillows and silk bedcovers
RainoraI kept reminiscing on the conversation I had with Nikolas. One hundred thousand dollars weekly. That will go a long way in taking care of both my mom and arin. I was hoping for a raise but I never imagined I could earn such an enormous amount of money. Now, I could finally pursue my dreams I had back-peddled for a long time."Earth to Rainora-" May snapped her fingers. She could tell I was loss in thoughts, I immediately recollected myself as we headed out of the building. At the entrance, there was a black Cadillac escalade parked infront. It's beautiful exterior, shining rims and the smooth sound of the running engine gave it a spectacular view. It stood out amongst the cars in waiting. Time went by as we didn't realize it was already nightfall, May showed me my desk which was just some few inches away from Nikolas' office. She was some floors below, but she was one of the few employees who had the access key to his office level. She also taught me how to pick incoming call
NIKOLASThe door bell into my office rang from outside, announcing someone's presence. I saw in the cctv monitor, two gorgeous ladies at the door. First was May, one of my most trusted employees. She handled all that worked directly for me as personal assistants. She had a dignified aura, yet she had a feminine figure which was mesmerizing. The second person along with her had a strange yet familiar look about her. I pressed the button to allow them both enter. I squinted and saw the young lady beside May. She wore a tight fitted suit, yet it was obvious she was uncomfortable and sensitive on how revealing her shape showed. I could tell she wasn't used to wearing suits often. She kept re-adjusting it. I unconsciously let out a smirk on my face. It was when she entered the office that I saw it was Rainora from the club yesterday. "You're late.' I shouted. Her face gloomed filling embarrassed. She clinched her hands tensely, though she looked awkward talking while May was present. I s
