Alex pov

It wasn’t until 5 p.m. that the teacher in charge of our detention released us. I was already beyond frustrated. The day was slipping away, and I was stuck at school, staring into space, when I should have been at Amanda’s house cleaning. Today was payday, and missing it wasn’t an option, no matter how late it was.

Not even when an annoying, frustrating boy like Luke was breathing down my neck.

“What do you want, Luke?” I asked for what felt like the hundredth time since detention started. His response? The same infuriating smile.

“I just want to escort you home. Chillax, man, I don’t bite.”

“No! I can find my way home. I don’t need you for that,” I snapped, stepping back instinctively.

There was no way I was letting him see where I lived. My thoughts spiraled with all the possible outcomes of him knowing. He was an elite, for Christ’s sake. His sudden goodness was suspicious.

“You look cute when you’re angry,” Luke said casually, catching me completely off guard.

  • My Rival My lover   Chapter 20: Luke

Alex’s POVI woke up to the sound of my phone vibrating against the wooden bedside table. My heart skipped a beat, part of me expecting it to be Amanda, or worse, Andrian. The screen flashed with an unfamiliar number. Frowning, I hesitated before picking up. “Hello?” “Good morning, boyfriend,” a familiar voice chimed, teasing and casual. “Luke?” I blurted out, my brain struggling to catch up. “What did you just call me?” “Boyfriend. You said yes yesterday, remember?” I frowned, sitting up. “What are you talking about? I don’t recall agreeing to anything.” “Oh, come on, Alex. Don’t play dumb.” I could hear the grin in his voice. “After detention yesterday, when I asked if we could give this a shot, you didn’t say no.” “Not saying no doesn’t mean yes!” I shot back, my voice sharper than I intended. “Well, I’m taking it as a yes,” he said with infuriating calm. “And besides, you’re way too cute to say no to me.” I rolled my eyes, already regretting answering the call. “Luke, I…

  • My Rival My lover   Chapter 21: The Audition

Alex’s POV The bell signaling the end of classes rang, and I found myself lingering in my seat, nerves bubbling in my stomach. I was supposed to head to the school auditorium for the audition I’d applied for days ago, but now, doubt gnawed at me. What if I embarrass myself? What if Andrian’s cronies show up just to mock me? I was nervous, throughout my way to the auditorium. Many students were milling in and out to watch the audition. I became conflicted whether to enter through the door, or I should turn away and leave. But then I thought about that moment at Puppy’s Bar, the thrill of losing myself in the music, the way I felt like I belonged, if only for a little while. I wanted that feeling again. “Hey you are blocking the fucking damn door” an angry impatient student shouted at my back, jerking me out of my confliction. With shaky determination, I grabbed my bag and headed to the auditorium. The large hall was packed with students of all kinds, some clutching instrument

  • My Rival My lover   Chapter 22: Clear message

Alex’s POV The events of the past few minutes felt like a whirlwind. I was still processing everything as I stood at the door of my apartment, mouth agape staring at the back profile of Luke. He had escorted me to my house. I had no choice as I could not reach home by myself, not in my state of mind. and Luke being him took advantage of that. He had gisted and made jokes about him being the hero and the hero supposed to receive a kiss from the victim as thank you gift. I had laughed without paying attention to it. Surprisingly, he had called me back and pressed his mouth on mine. At the last minute, I had shifted my head, and the intended kiss became a peck. It was unexpected, out of character, and completely disarming. He had just dashed off afterward, leaving me stunned and standing in the cold night air. And surprisingly, I didn't feel violated or disgusted. My fingers lightly touched my cheek where his lips had brushed against my skin. It wasn’t much, a quick, fleeting gest

  • My Rival My lover   Chapter 23: Kiss me?

Alex POVThe words on the crumpled piece of paper haunted me, a cruel whisper at the back of my mind. “Meet in the abandoned shed.”Andrian's message had been straightforward, but it carried a weight that made my chest tighten. He hadn’t specified the time, which only added to my frustration. Throughout my classes, I was a hollow shell, staring blankly at the board. The teacher’s voice was a meaningless drone. My classmates probably noticed my unusual silence, hence their rare mercy in refraining from taunts today. The bell signaling the start of sports blared across the schoolyard. Most students hurried out, their excited chatter filling the air. I, however, walked against the crowd, heading toward the music room. With the auditions just around the corner, practicing seemed like the logical choice. My only chance to qualify rested on proving myself, especially to the so-called legendary judge who had crushed my automatic qualification last time. The memory of his unimpressed gaze

  • My Rival My lover   Chapter 24: Elites secrets

Alex POV The cafeteria buzzed with life, the hum of conversations blending with the clinking of utensils. The smell of roasted beans wafted through the air, reminding me of how much I’d skipped lunch the past few days. “So… where have you been all this while?” I asked Linda, finally spotting her as she slid into the seat across from me. Throughout the day, she’d been scarce, and as a friend, it bothered me. “It’s nothing, Alex. Just busy with school stuff,” she replied quickly, her voice light. But her fingers betrayed her; they played nervously with the hem of her sweater. “School stuff? Since when are you the diligent type?” I teased, trying to draw her out, but she avoided my gaze. “Alex, just drop it, okay?” Her tone was sharper now, defensive. I wanted to press on, to ask what was really going on, but before I could, Luke’s voice interrupted. “So, you guys actually stay here to eat?” he asked, flashing his usual mischievous smile as he sat down beside me, uninvited as alwa

  • My Rival My lover   Chapter 25: Become my servant

Andrian’s POV The day had been off from the start. I couldn’t quite place when my mood had soured, but by the time I entered the cafeteria, a dull irritation simmered beneath my skin. Maybe it was the stale air, the overzealous whispers of classmates trying to curry favor with me, or the fact that none of it felt real. Whatever it was, it only got worse when I saw him. There he was. Alex. Laughing. With Luke, of all people. The sight made my jaw tighten, my appetite disappearing instantly. Luke, an elite like me, someone with the world at his feet, was sitting with him, the boy I couldn’t seem to stop thinking about, for all the wrong reasons. I watched as Luke leaned closer to Alex, his grin smug and effortless, and something in my chest twisted. It wasn’t jealousy, I told myself. It couldn’t be. But then, why couldn’t I look away? Josh, sitting across from me, followed my line of sight and let out a low chuckle. “Want to teach him another lesson, like yesterday?” The

  • My Rival My lover   Chapter 26: On a Rollercoaster

Alex’s POV For a moment, I couldn’t breathe. My mind went blank, and the world seemed to narrow to the sensation of Andrian’s lips on mine. It wasn’t gentle. It wasn’t kind. It was possessive, demanding, and hot, leaving me utterly breathless. When he finally pulled back, my chest was heaving as I stared at him, dumbfounded. My body felt frozen, unable to process what had just happened. My heart pounded so loudly that I was sure he could hear it. “What…" What was that?” I stammered, my voice barely a whisper. Andrian smirked, his sharp features softening with an emotion I couldn’t quite place as he stared down at me. The memory of the green eyed boy staring intensely at me with a smile under the lake flashed across my mind. “That” he said, with a strange intensity that sent shivers d9wn my spine. “ is for coming late” His words hit me like a slap, yet I couldn’t muster the anger I knew I should feel. My legs felt like jelly, my hands trembling at my sides. I could’ve yelled at

  • My Rival My lover   Chapter 27: Conflition

Andrian’s pov I stood in front of the mirror, tugging at the cuffs of my blazer, trying to convince myself that this was just another night. The kind of night I’d been enduring my entire life, dinners filled with false laughter, political agendas, and people who couldn’t care less about me but worshipped my family name. The reflection staring back at me didn’t look like an eighteen-year-old boy. The sharp suit, the slicked-back hair, the perfectly rehearsed expression, it was all part of the facade. A Rufus always looked perfect. Always acted perfect. They are always obeyed.those are the three big ‘A’ my father holds in high regard. But today, perfection felt like a chain around my neck. The day had been chaos from the moment I walked into the cafeteria. Immediately, i had wished that i had gone somewhere else but there. “Cant he see it already, Luke is using him”. mere thought of Luke sitting next to Alex, laughing like they were best friends, made my blood boil. Luke had no bu

Alex povI couldn’t be more thankful hearing the bell. Signaling the end of lectures. I rushed out of the class even before Mrs Green could even say “boo”.Sounds illegal, right? But seeing as the bitch was trying to get on my good books, because of my new identity, I guess she wouldn't be offended.I was already going out of my mind from all the pretense and forced smiles from those that have taunted me. Laughing at me when the Elites and Andrian made my life a living hell. It makes me want to throw up seeing how people change overnight.I breathe a sigh of relief, enjoying the silence of the closet that I had hidden in. Now is time for lunch, and I know going there now would be disastrous. After 30 minutes, I crept out, making my way to the cafeteria Wilhite trying my best not to encounter anybody.***********The appetite I had for food this afternoon died immediately when I entered the Cafeteria. It was like I wore a magnet and the students were a bunch of heavy metal. What surpr

  • My Rival My lover   Chapter 54: strange people

Alex PovThe next day felt like the world had tilted away from its axis. I felt it immediately when Viper dropped me at the school premises. As I walked towards the school, my mind swirled with thoughts I couldn’t quite pin down. The revelation of my connection to my father, the legacy I hadn’t asked for, and the uncertainty of how it would affect my life, all of it weighed heavily on me. The words of viper last night were still clear in my ears, yesterday night, after dropping me in front of my house: “Lay low, Alex. The less attention you draw, the better for now.”That had seemed like solid advice at the time. And I plan to keep it that way. Wouldn't want my peaceful life to be destroyed. Like he said ,lay low. But the moment I stepped onto campus, it became apparent that “laying low” was no longer an option. Or rather, it was never an option. The whispers started before I even reached the main building. Small groups of students huddled together, their eyes darting toward me as th

  • My Rival My lover   chapter 53: Tricked

Alex povThe boardroom was like a courtroom. No, it reminded me more like an execution ground I have watched in movies. As I stepped out, my sagged shoulders felt like the weight of the whole world had been lifted from my body. I could know when I have been this thankful about leaving a room. The air felt sweeter and the silence that now surrounds me is giving me a chance to calm my nerves.I had endured the intense scrutinizing eyes. Like an execution ground, I felt like I was the lamb to be slaughtered while the richly dressed board members was my executioner, each with his or her own sword waiting for the right time. every glance, every whispered word, could decide my fate. The rich mahogany table had seemed too large, the leather chairs too stiff, and the air too suffocating.I had managed to descend the stairs, despite my shaking and trembling legs. My mind replayed the scene over and over, as if trying to dissect what had just happened. It had been fine at first, or as fine as i

Alex pov“Shut the f**k up” I shot back, my voice rising. “You show up out of nowhere, acting like you’re in charge, and expect me to just go along with it? Who even are you to me?”“Alex, calm down,” my mum said, stepping between us.“No, Mum!” I snapped, the words spilling out before I could stop them. “I’ve had enough of the secrets, the lies, the half-truths. I know what’s going on. I know about Dad, that he didn’t abandon us. I know about the inheritance. And I know that he,” I pointed at Viper, “is a secret agent of my father that has been pulling the strings behind the scenes.”The room fell into a pregnant silence. My mother’s eyes widened, and for a moment, she looked genuinely startled, almost like she would burst out crying any moment. But then, to my utter shock, a small sad smile crept onto her lips.“So,” she said, as if she was stating the obvious “you’ve known all along.”“What?” I blinked, completely caught off guard by her sudden shift in demeanor. She chuckled soft

Alex povI could hear the beat of my heart pounding frantically in my chest. The kiss started soft, tentative at first, as though we were both testing the waters. But the first few minutes passed in a blur, before everything began to heat up.“You don’t have to be so tense, Alex,” Luke murmured, his voice low and soothing, a warm vibration against my lips. His hand brushed gently against my cheek, and I couldn’t help but lean into his touch, savoring the warmth of his palm. “Just relax.”Relax. The word sounded so simple, but my body didn’t seem to understand it. My heart was racing wildly. I tried to calm down, but the intensity of the moment made it impossible. My hands hovered awkwardly, unsure of where to do with it. while Luke took charge of the kiss with a quiet confidence that left me breathless.Luke’s hands found my waist, sliding up my bare back with an ease that sent shivers trailing down my spine. His touch wasn’t hesitant, it was sure, deliberate, as though he knew exactl

  • My Rival My lover   Chapter 50: The results

Alex povThe hallway was no different. Groups of students clustered together, their voices a mix of excitement and speculation. Normally, I would have walked straight past them, but something caught my attention, a line forming near the notice board.I had followed Peter, who was acting so mysterious, but he had disappeared on reaching the administrative block. And behind me was Luke, who had a scowl on his face. He had reluctantly followed. He was angry that Peter had interrupted us, but Curiosity got the better of me. I needed to see why Peter was so riled up that he would damn any forms of public shame. But I was not ready to see the enormous crowd before me. What was so important that everyone was lining up for it? I adjusted my bag and cautiously approached the crowd. As I drew closer, I caught snippets of their conversations.“Did you see his name?”“She totally nailed her audition!”“I can’t believe I didn’t make it...”My chest tightened. The auditions.I froze for a moment, m

  • My Rival My lover   Chapter 49: New development

Alex pov He turned his head lazily, his eyes meeting mine. They were cold and detached, but something in them flickered for just a moment before he masked it. “What do you want, Alex?” he asked flatly. The way he asked made me pause what I wanted to say. He had a lazy expression ,like he would care less about anything. Surprisingly, he had answered without any harmful remarks. His friends, where were they?. He continued to stare at me, waiting for my reply. Why was he asking me what?. Was I stupid to think that Andrian, the head of Elites in the school, has any bassinets with me. His piercing gaze glared at me,like he was seeing through my soul. Seeing my inner secrets. I cringed, Who was I kidding, I couldn't do it. I wanted to run away, but Viper's hard words flashed in my mind. I swallowed hard, forcing the words out before I lost my nerve. “I’ve decided. I accept your proposal.” His brow furrowed slightly, like he was not expecting something like it, for a momen

Alex Pov Luke. His warm brown eyes widened in surprise before softening into something gentler. He steadied me with a hand on my arm, his touch calm.and gentle. And a gentle contrast to Luke of yesterday night.“Alex,” he said, his voice low and calm, but there was a hint of something in it, relief?I opened my mouth, the apology I had rehearsed since I woke up, ready to spill out. “Luke, I…”But he cut me off, his voice firm yet kind.“It’s fine,” he said, his lips curving into a soft smile. “You don’t have to explain.”I blinked, startled. “What?”“Last night,” he continued, his gaze unwavering. “I shouldn’t have pushed you. I get it, Alex. You need time, and I’m okay with that. I’m willing to wait for as long as it takes.”His words caught me off guard. The sincerity in his voice, the patience, the intensity, the understanding, and it all melted something inside me. I had expected anger, maybe even resentment. But instead, here he was, willing to stand by me, no matter how compli

Andrian povMy father’s voice cut through the air like a whip, freezing me in place. My hands hovered over the keys, trembling slightly. Why the fuck was I distracted, too distracted not to see him coming. He stood in the doorway, his imposing figure framed by the dim light. His sharp eyes bore into me, cold and unyielding, and for a moment, the room felt smaller, suffocating. The memory of a little crying boy surfaced. The boy was complaining to his father crying for his sweets that were destroyed by bullies. But his father instead of consoling the little boy took even the reminder of the sweets in front of him, and crushed it to the ground while cursing how weak he was.The memories threatened to crush me but I stood, my back straight, masking the fear that clawed at my insides.“What is this?” he demanded, his voice low but venomous.I didn’t answer. What was there to say? That I had let my emotions get the better of me? That I had sought solace in something he had deemed weak
