Hera

“I think it’s a great idea,” River said, almost jumping up in excitement.

I, on the other hand, was on a completely different spectrum. I was concerned with the fact that I had to live with the people that I vowed to never get along with. “No,” I firmly said.

River frowned. “No? Hera! Do you realize what just happened to us a couple of moments ago? Rogues chased us down, and there is a huge possibility that this won’t be the last time! Do you think it’ll be safe for us to go home when we both live alone?”

Arlo’s eyes narrowed. “You live alone?”

I looked away.

“I thought you both lived together. This isn’t good. I’ve made up my mind. You’re staying here, and that’s final,” he commanded.

“I can take care of myself,” I argued. “You saw what I did out there. I can protect myself just fine. If you could, then j

ArloI woke up, expecting to see someone by my side, but to no avail. I just had one of the best sleep that I've had for a while now, and I was looking forward to seeing Hera when I opened my eyes.Based on yesterday’s events, I thought that we had built a new connection, but I have to reconsider that thought now. I guess some things really need more time to change.Although I didn’t want to get up, I forced myself to go to the bathroom and get ready for the day. I have to brief the pack leaders and warriors about the recent rogue sightings near our area.I walked towards the training grounds and saw them sparring against each other. The moment they felt my presence, they halted their movements and arranged themselves in an orderly manner.“Greetings, Alpha,” they said in unison while bowing in respect. My eyes searched the area for my Beta, Anderson, and saw him walking through the sea of warriors. We greeted each ot

HeraI went up the stairs but did not hear Arlo’s steps behind me. Is he having a hard time carrying my luggage?“Aren’t you coming?” I shouted from the middle of the stairs.“Ah—yeah, I’m coming up,” he said and followed after me. For some reason, his voice sounded a bit strange, but I just brushed it off since he’s always strange.I opened his room and placed my things down on the ground. Arlo quickly followed and helped me arrange my things. I sat down on his bed from exhaustion and watched as he looked at me from the doorframe.“What?” I asked, conscious of his gaze.He cleared his throat and shook his head. “Nothing. Nothing. I’m just sorry that I won’t be able to accompany you around the packhouse since I have some paperwork to do. You wouldn’t mind, would you?”I vigorously shook my head. “There’s no problem at all. • My Rival, My Mate   Chapter 20: The Luna

HeraI unconsciously moved away from her and straightened my back. My senses were heightened as I looked at the person who murdered my mother. Although I didn’t want to show her any respect, she is still the former Luna of the Blood Shadow pack, so I bowed my head.“Greetings, Luna,” I said in a strained voice.I was startled when she held onto my shoulders and guided me to stand straight.“No need for those formalities. I’m not the Luna of the pack anymore. Just think of me as a normal pack member in this house,” she smiled, her eyes brightening as she spoke. She is just as the books painted her to be. She is incredibly beautiful and dazzling, but I know better than to be deceived by her smile.“I heard the commotion from my room, so I decided to come down. Some kids are treating Reinas as an outcast just because her father left their family not too long ago. So, I’ve been trying my best to avoid any

  • My Rival, My Mate   Chapter 21: The Suspicion

ArloI looked at the folded paper on my desk while taking a sip from my coffee. I was actually planning on showing Hera around the packhouse, but I felt like I had to uncover the secrets of this piece of paper as fast as possible. The paper was folded, only showing its uppermost portion. There was more writing in the middle of the paper, but I didn’t bother opening it yet. The only words that were showing were “The Plan” in big and bold letters.I tapped my fingernails on the table, eager yet anxious to unfold the piece of paper. For some reason, I felt like I was about to discover the reason for Hera’s vexation towards me. With trembling fingers, I held onto the corner of the paper, about to flip it open. However, before I could do so, the door suddenly opened, making me jolt in my seat. I’m usually not this easily surprised, but I’m already on edge thinking about the contents of the paper. As a result, I knocked

  • My Rival, My Mate   Chapter 22: The Hunt

HeraIt was the next day, and I was with Devyn and River watching some random television show in their living room. Let me correct that. I’M watching a weird TV show while the other two are busy flirting with each other.By how near they were seated with each other, they felt like only one person. I grimaced in disgust as I heard River giggling while Devyn told him an adventitious story. Giggling! River is fucking giggling!Just in time, Arlo and Uncle Dalton went into the room, carrying a bunch of tools that looked like they were for… hunting?Devyn and River finally separated and sat farther away from each other. Devyn cleared his throat and straightened out his clothes. “Where are you going?”“Didn’t you get the announcement? We’re going hunting later at night.” Arlo responded while counting all of the equipment.“Hunting? I thought that the announcement was for the end of the month?

  • My Rival, My Mate   Chapter 23: The Execution

Hera“Good luck on the hunt,” I said, helping Arlo in wearing his backpack. I patted his back to signify that I was done, so he turned around and flashed me a bright smile.“Why do I feel like you’re acting kinder than usual?” He asked.‘Cause this is going to be the last time that we’ll be seeing each other, I wanted to respond. However, I just scoffed and rolled my eyes.“What do you mean? I’m always kind to you,” I retorted. He was about to respond, but a strong aura suddenly entered the room. I turned to the figure and froze. Is this the infamous Kairo Ford? His face was stern, and I felt cold just looking at his stance. Everything about him, from his gaze to his strides, screams “power.”“Dad,” Arlo said and walked towards his father.Kairo’s face turned brighter when he saw his son. All of the coldness in his body left, and it was re

  • My Rival, My Mate   Chapter 24: The Spy

Arlo “Ahhhhh,” he screamed in agony as I plunged the knife deeper into his thigh. “Answer my question. Who the hell sent you?” I roared out. “You can kill me for all you want, but I’m never going to tell you who sent me,” he bit back. I sighed in frustration and stood up from his level, leaving the silver knife in his thigh. The hunt was going well, and we were able to obtain much more food and supplies than expected. We were supposed to head home earlier too, but we found this bastard spying on us from the bushes. I don’t know why he thinks he can spy on us without going through extensive retribution, but I admire him for having such bravery. “What’s your name again?” I asked while tapping my foot on the ground. I have sent the other members except for my dad and Uncle Dalton home because we’ve already had an exhausting night. I also want to go home and see Hera, but this shithead is preventing me from doing that. “Tim,” he an

  • My Rival, My Mate   Chapter 25: The Change

HeraEmery and I laughed as we looked at her newly-dyed hair. The color was patchy, and we made a mess in the living room, but we were still happy about it.I let out a deep breath as I thought about what I was going to do just a few moments ago. How did it even come to this? Let’s rewind for a couple of hours.“Goodbye,” I said, a tear falling from my eye.The knife was only a feather's breadth away from her chest, the sharp weapon almost touching her skin. My fingers froze as everything flashed back into my mind—Emery’s kindness, Devyn’s gentleness, Kairo and Uncle Dalton’s humor, and Arlo’s efforts to always make me smile.I sighed and maneuvered the knife away from her chest. “I can’t do this,” I whispered under my breath, my tears streaming at this point. I quickly let go of the knife, and it clanged against the ground. My knees felt weak, so I dropped down on the ground

Third Person’s Point of View It was another busy day in the Blood Shadow pack (what’s new), and everyone was running around, trying to do some last-minute touches before the commencement of Rivalee’s and Belluci’s first birthday party. In the midst of the bustling people, there stood two gentlemen on the stairway, observing a large portrait hung over the wall. “It’s up again, huh?” River asked. Dalton placed his hand under his chin. “Yes. How many times has it been? 12? 13 times since it has been replaced?” River nodded his head. “Yeah. I can’t believe Kairo always manages to hang it again after Arlo already destroyed each and every portrait.” “Well, that’s one thing about Kairo—he never gives up.” Ella, seeing the two idling idiots standing on the stairway, stomped over to where they were with crossed arms. “Stop looking at Kairo and Arlo’s ballet portrait and go to the front gate to greet the guests. Don't you think we deserve it?"Kairo merely glanced at his son before continuing to pack his back for the upcoming fishing trip that he was going to have with his friends."That's normal, son. When your mother and I had Laura, we didn't go on dates until she turned four.""That's a lie," Arlo retorted. "I clearly remember grandma Lily telling me that she'd often take care of Laura just so you and mom could go on dates."Kairo scratched the back of his head. "Well, can your date wait another month or so? I have fishing trips booked every weekend of the month."Arlo groaned. "We can't, dad! We'll be busy with Rivalee's and Belluci's joint birthday party by then! And you're going out fishing once again? Who are you even going with? Unce Dalton hasn't been fishing since Belluci's birth!""Well, it's his fault for having a baby so late. I'm g

However, there was still one problem that they had to solve—the baby names. The two couples, along with River, Devyn, Emery, and Kairo, were seated on the living room couch, conversing about the topic of baby names.“I thought you’ve already decided on something during your term,” Emery said.“Yeah,” Ella said. “But Dalton thought that our little bean was going to be a girl and named him Princess.”“Then maybe you can just call him Prince,” Emery suggested.“That’s what I said!” Dalton exclaimed.“I feel like it’s too typical. And we’re not a kingdom, we’re a pack,” she defended.

"I should have just let you choke to death."Devyn cleared his throat, causing the two men to look at them. Third Person's Point of View"Do you think Hera's been acting weird these days?" Dalton asked, looking at the newly-wedded woman sitting on the couch and scarfing down on some lettuce. Not salad.Lettuce.Just plain lettuce.River clicked his tongue. "Well, my sister has been weird since birth, but I do agree that she's weirder these days.""Do you think it's because of Arlo? Has Hera finally lost her mind after marrying him? Maybe I should have warned her more about his weird mannerisms before their marriage," Devyn said.Dalton nodded his head in agreement."Are you badmouthing me behind my back?" a voice suddenly interrupted. The three men looked behind them and saw Arlo with his arms crossed, looking at them with raised eyebrows."You're weird. That's why your weirdness has rubbed off onto my sister," River blatantly said.Arlo frowned."There

Dalton shouted, turning off the television.Ella worriedly looked around the house, afraid that Dalton's scream would wake up the other pack members."Shh, why do you have to shout? I'm just asking you to be the chaperone for Lyra's field trip.""But why?" he whined. "I'm going fishing with Kairo and the boys."Ella clicked her tongue. "You went fishing three days ago, Dalton! Maria invited me out to the town, and it's been a long time since we hung out. Don't you think I also deserve to go out of the house?""Would that be okay, though? Won't you get tired considering that you're pregnant?"Ella sighed and crossed her arms together. "Are you assuming that pregnant women can't go out and have fun anymore?"His e
