Ethan’s Pov
I still found it hard to recover after what happened earlier today. How was it possible that my step-sister was my mate?I heard my wolf loud and clear when he said “mate!”.And there was Kayla…my step-sister, staring at us and also wondering what might have happened.I was shocked to my bones as I stared at my brothers who quickly wore a stern gaze, as though nothing happened to them.We all left the scene, but I was so bothered that I could barely relax. At this, I sent them a mind link, calling on them to meet with me as this was an emergency. They all rushed into my room the next minute…clearly concerned about whatever it was I had to say.“Tell me that it’s not the same for you all?” I asked the three of them, gazing into their eyes that carried both worry and confusion.Jake scoffed and folded his hand, still shocked from what had happened.“Kayla is our mate?” Jake yelled out of his lungs and suddenly started laughing aloud.Mason walked closer to me and held my hands.“Look, you know that this is not possible. I mean, there must be a mistake somewhere. The moon goddess cannot bless us with a mate who is our sister!” Mason blurted out in confusion and turned to look at me.Clearly, they all awaited my verdict, since I was the smartest of the quad.“She is our step-sister”, I corrected, as though that made much difference.“Even though! This is an abomination! The world can’t hear of it”, Jake cried out as he dug his hands into his head and paced around the room.Jason was at another end of the room. I could decipher what he carried in mind, from the look he had on his face. He wasn’t perturbed because he didn’t believe in any of those.“Jason! What do you have to say?” I finally asked as we all kept mute and turned our attention towards his direction.Jason gazed at each of us, as though we were only trying to come up with some kind of joke. And then, after that, he broke into a loud and hysterical laughter.“Mate?” He asked with a look of disdain and disappointment written all over his face.“You all believe that trash talk?” He asked again and stared at each of us.I cleared my throat and walked over to her, as though I was at the verge of pulling him up and throwing him to the ground.“She is our mate! Do you understand?” I asked and again he laughed.“She is your mate! Not mine! There is nothing like a mate and none of that is of any concern to me”, he bellowed out of his lungs, after which he walked away.Mason and Jake walked closer to me, still trying to decipher what might have gone wrong with Jason.“You think he was omitted?” Mason asked.“Maybe… Jason is a difficult one, and we can’t tell if he is being serious or paranoid”, Jake replied, while I nodded my head in affirmation.A deep breath escaped my lips as I sank into the bed and hissed aloud. Why would Kayla be my mate?My heart swirled in excitement, but I shoved it aside again when I realized that the last thing I wanted was being elated. This was a taboo and it meant trouble.“We have to keep mute about all of these! We can’t let anyone know”, Mason suddenly announced and for a minute, I thought that I had heard wrongly.“What?” I yelled in shock and he nodded.Jake was lost at first, but almost immediately, he agreed to what Mason suggested.“It is the three of us in this…we are her mates, but we have to keep shut. That way, we stay safe”, Jake added and despite how hard that sounded, it was the truth.“Do you think the moon goddess is trying to punish us?” I asked and for a moment, silence rented the air.We looked at each other and nodded.“I think so…we have been so bad to Kayla. And now, we have her as our mate”, Jake groaned in frustration just as he walked out of the room, with Mason following him. That same evening, we got informed that our father wanted to have a meeting with us. It was quite strange because he barely called for a meeting…except when it was for an important situation.“I heard that something happened in the pack today”, he had said, and for a moment, my heart dropped.I looked at Kayla, who looked like she was sitting on a pack of ice. The others appeared tensed too, just as we waited for our father to spill the story.“Kayla visited the forbidden room”, he dropped and darted his eyes to her.A wave of relief flushed past me when I realized that it was something different. And then, I saw the sudden need to keep her safe. She was my mate and the last thing I wanted was seeing her hurt. At this, I decided to make things right between us. I knew that this was a bold step since I was the first of my brothers to take it, but I was willing to go on until the end.“Can we be friends?” I had asked her, just as she stared at me…with those cold eyes that sent cold shivers down my spine.I could tell that she was still mad at all of us, for being responsible for her punishment earlier. However, it was all Jason’s fault. He had been the one to report her, even after I pleaded with him to let it go.“I don’t need friends at this point”, she replied bluntly.“Did something happen? Did you observe something earlier today?” She had asked and again, my heart dropped.I could see how eager she was to learn about her current situation and whether we knew about it. But then, I wasn’t ready to blow our plan.“No…there’s nothing”, I had replied. She walked away, without sparing me another glance. My heart was broken, and I had no idea of why…But that was my mate! My sister, who I might have been cruel and cold to…Guilt engulfed me, together with a sudden push of determination to win her heart and make myself her favorite of all.Jason’s PovEverything about Kayla pissed me to the core. The fact that her mother’s presence drifted my father’s attention away from my brothers and I was part of the reasons. My mother had just died a few years earlier, and I had thought that my father would stay without bringing in another Luna. To my utmost surprise, he had brought Kayla and her mother the very next year. The smiles on their faces were heart-wrenching and I couldn’t help but think of how to get rid of them.Kayla tried so hard to come closer as a sister, but I was never going to give her a chance. Somehow, I was glad her mother went off the picture so fast. Especially because it made my father realize that he had sons to take care of. It was strange to discover that she turned out to be my mate. I had no belief in things like that. But then, the voice of my wolf was so loud and clear in my head. “Mate!” He had called out earlier just as I walked closer to meet Kayla, who was kneeling on the ground. That partic
Kayla’s PovThat was so typical of Jason. He never stopped yelling at me, right from the moment I came into the pack with my mother. I had no idea of why he was so blunt and cruel, but that was none of my business. All I wanted was his care and love, but clearly, nothing like that was going to happen. “I just want to know if they know that we are mates”, I whispered to my wolf who was clearly sad and dejected with how Jason spoke to me earlier. It was a long day already and clearly not how I wanted my eighteenth birthday to do. But then, I felt glad that I was able to lay my hand on a piece that came from my mother: the letter.I picked it out of my pocket and stared at it for another time.“How am I meant to spend my life here at the pack? Everything seems to be turning against me and I have no one to back me up”, I cried bitterly, staring into the last picture of my mother which I still had in my possession. After minutes of being solemn, I took a long bath and went ahead to sle
JAKELast night was a lot for me to handle. Starting off from the discovering that Kayla was my mate and then, having a meeting with the Alpha. It was a slow day, and the worst was that it came with a change in feelings and emotions. The moment I learned that Kayla was my mate, I felt a sudden swirl of excitement and the utmost need to take care of her.My heart stung when I thought of the different times we were bad to her, and I couldn’t help but feel the guilt that wrapped around my shoulders. And so, when I observed that she had gone into Jason’s room, I knew that there was a need to trail her and ensure her safety.Just as I had thought, Jason was at the verge of strangling her…with his pair of cold stone eyes that held no emotions. The rage that swelled inside of me was nothing close to what I had witnessed before. I warned Jason sternly and even if he held no remorse, I was certain that he won’t try that again.Still in my state of shock and confusion, I made my way to the min
ETHANAll through the night, I tried to devise means to win Kayla over. I knew that this wasn’t a sort of competition, but I wanted to get on her good side. Somehow, I learned that it was her birthday and no one in the pack knew of it. I felt awful that different dramas came up on a day that was meant to be her happy day and so, I came up with a plan to surprise her the next day.I planned with some omegas and together, we planned to throw a mini pool party for Kayla much later in the day. Also, I sent invites to some people around the pack, informing them that there would be a party, even if I didn’t point out the reason behind it.With the atmosphere of excitement, I decided to pay her a visit to catch a glimpse of her. It was going to be a surprise birthday party, and I was dying to see what her reaction would look like.I knocked on the door and quickly turned the door knob after announcing my presence. The situation I caught sight of got me stuck to the ground and for some sec
KaylaMy head was spinning already. This was not how I planned to spend my day. All I wanted to do today was remain in my room, or discreetly carry out my chores in the pack, without the attention of the quad.I was still in shock and confusion because I was yet to discover if they knew already. But then, I was ready to shove it aside and continue my life like before. My mother’s letter told me to remain at the pack, and so, I was ready to do that…even though I had to be more careful now. My quest to be more careful was failing because the boys seemed to be getting more attached to me. Jake had spent the night in my room and now, Ethan was the first to come into my room, with the excuse of wanting to know how I was doing. This was absolutely ridiculous! “You both need to get the hell out of my room!” I had yelled out of my lungs, hoping that it was enough to send them away. Luckily, they walked away and for a while, I pondered over everything and discovered that I was in a deep mes
JASONFor the hundredth time, I fixed my gaze on the clock, listening to the sound it made as though each second drew me close to something vital. Despite how hard I tried to think less of the situation, I couldn’t deny the fact that it was something important. Kayla’s birthday was one we never marked or celebrated after her mother’s death and hearing Ethan mention it earlier today was a lot to handle. I flared up because I was enraged and confused about how we went from being her worst enemies to sweet individuals all because of the so-called “mate thing”.My brothers were already all over her, and that was enough to get me angry. I wasn’t willing to go down the same lane as them. But then, the more I thought about it, the more I saw reasons to actually do something for her birthday. Perhaps, it was the mate bond thing kicking in because I was disturbed with the idea of staying silent on her birthday.“Whatever!” I mumbled as I fell back to my bed to get some nap.***The sound of
KAYLAA party going on outside, an invitation and not only that, a dress on my bed? My heart raced as I stayed still, with my eyes focused on the beautiful flowery dress that was comfortably laying on my bed.“Who brought this here?” I asked myself again as I lifted the dress and smiled calmly. The last time I owned a brand-new dress was a week before my mother died. She had taken me to the mall, where we shopped for different clothes. That never happened after her death because no one cared about me…until now.“Who the hell did this?” I asked again as my excitement slowly faded and gave way to worry.A massive frown was plastered on my face and my body shivered in fear. I tried so hard to place my hands on whom it might be, since no one in the pack ever looked towards my direction. And then, it clicked! I had seen Ethan hanging around the hallway thatled to my room earlier. Furthermore, of the quad, he was the most friendly. At this, I resolved that he was the one responsible for
Ethan’s PovI stood beside Jake just as we stared at Kayla, who was being led into the party by Mason. I had sent Mason to bring her in since I had to take care of other things at the party ground.Jason was nowhere in sight, and that wasn’t astounding. He was the odd one from all of us, and even if I told him about it, I knew that he wouldn’t show up.“Happy birthday, Kayla!” Everyone screamed the minute her blindfold went out of her eyes. She was startled, and I could see this in how she quickly darted her eyes across to the pool arena. Just then, she caught sight of me and briskly walked over.“What the hell is going on? Is this my birthday party?” She asked, and I gestured for her to take a look at her picture banner that was majestically hanging on one side of the wall.“What?” She screamed and moved backwards.“We couldn’t celebrate you yesterday and so, we thought that it won’t be late today”, I went further to explain to her.“Happy birthday Kayla. I would go get some drinks
Third person. A month after the death of the Alpha King and the rift between Kayla and the quad, she decided that it was time to let them in on everything that happened when she was at the forest. She wanted them to know that she had to choose just one of the quad as her mate for life and that was the instruction from the moon goddess. She broke the news to them one morning and the shock on their faces showed that they weren’t expecting to hear something like that. “But she chose you as our mates!” Ethan cried out. He was quite pained to hear such, even if he hadn’t really said so much words to Kayla. “You will find another mate once I make my choice”, Kayla explained as they both exchanged glances with each other. They gulped down hard and nodded, gesturing for her to go ahead with making her choice. “And so, who are you picking?” Jake said as he stared at her, as though he wished that she would choose him. Kayla stared at each of the quad, with tears dripping out of her eyes.
KaylaIsn’t it funny, the way live goes? How things start up on a bad note, only to transit to being good and then, return back to being bad. The quad had been a thorn in my flesh right from the very beginning but when they turned out to be good, I had a change of thought about them.It was crazy to witness a time when they returned back to being mean and nonchalant about things that concerned me, their mate. This was exclusive of Jason, who despite all, took me in and told me that he still needed me around. That gave me a sort of hope…if Jason wanted me, then I’m just fine. The strange woman whom I had met during my journey in the forest had told me that I could only choose one of the quad and I just knew that Jason was going to be that one. None of them knew about that, at least not yet. I had no idea of what such information would bring but I was getting ready to bring them in on it the moment I felt was right. “What are you thinking of?” Jason asked as he walked over to me,
Third person. Kayla swirled around to meet Jason, who had his hands inside his pocket and his gaze lowered to the ground. He had a small smirk on his face, and a questioning look that sort of asked the question of why Kayla would ever think of leaving the pack. “Jason?” Kayla called out, quite surprised to see him there even though she wasn’t so convinced that he would want her to stay back. As long as she was concerned, she was unwanted at the pack and has always been unwanted at the pack. “Where are you going to?” Jason asked again as he took another step closer. He has this fierce look on his face that suggested how he was both pained and confused by her decision. “I’m leaving”, she replied with a voice that sounded like a whisper, trying so hard to avoid gazing into his eyes. Jason gulped down hard and darted his eyes away again. “And why are you leaving?” He asked as he rolled his eyes at her. “No one wants me around. You all think that I’m a danger to your pack b
KaylaI sat on my bed as every memory I ever had at the pack started pouring back into my brain. I blinked off the tears that welled up in my eyes as I stood up and strolled over to the window. A huge part of my life was in this pack, and although most of it turned out to be terrific, I still didn’t want to leave. However, I needed to because despite how hard I wanted to make amends with the quad, they weren’t willing to do so. I finally packed up my bad and started making my way out of the pack. I could have easily made use of my powers to vanish and never be seen, but for some reasons, I wanted every single person at the pack to see that I was leaving indeed. Just as I approached the gate, I felt someone watching me. I swirled around and tried to place my hands on who it might be but I couldn’t. At this, I ignored the weird feeling and trudged further away. And then, I heard what sounded like footsteps. It was clear that someone was following me but whosoever it was didn’t want
Kayla It was high time the entire fight came to an end. I was exhausted and needed someone to cling on but that seemed to be impossible because every single person deserted me. “Please, let’s make peace”, I said to Jason who was looking at me as though he had just seen a ghost. Despite how hard he tried to avoid having an eye contact with me, I could tell that he missed me as much as I did.“Kayla, everyone needs space at this point and it’s only cool that we leave things the way they are”, he explained just as I searched through his eyes as though I could really tell what he felt. “That’s not true. Deep down your heart, I know that you want all of these to end. I know that you desire me. I know that you want me. I can feel it in my bones”, I said in a whisper as I used my hand to caress his cheeks softly. He froze the minute my hands touched his skin and that was yet another confirmation of what I had just said. There was no need extending the situation when we could have peace a
Third person. Everything remained silent for a couple of days. However, the silence that reigned over the entire pack was one filled with so much tension. The quad were lost and unable to think of how to proceed with carrying their responsibilities as alphas. Kayla on the other end couldn’t tell if she wanted to leave the pack or remain there, especially because the entire quad was mad at her. Jason was not left out too. He was usually the one standing so firm behind her. It was quite heartbreaking to see him look away from her. She took slow steps out of her room, not failing to observe how the members of the pack shivered immediately they set their eyes on her. She was truly exhausted and all she wanted at the moment was peace. She hated being a reason to be talked about by the entire pack. Just as she walked, she bumped into someone and that prompted her to travel all the way to the ground. She let out a deep sigh after which she rubbed her hands that was terrible hurtin
Third person. Kayla ran out of the scene as fast as her legs could carry her, not sparing anyone of them a glance. She never intended to make use of her powers but it seemed as though her powers reacted in time it sensed danger “I don’t like this! This is becoming one crazy rollercoaster and I’m certainly not ready for this”, she cried out the minute she got into her room. “But you miss them…”, her wolf whispered and for some seconds, her cries turned to silent tears. “I do…but I doubt that things would go back to how it’s been”, she said, her heart broken to a thousand pieces. The quad were still hiding inside their various rooms, in their mourning state. On my part, I was cold and numb as I sat in the garden. I had a lot of thoughts in my head and even if I direly wanted him to apologize to me, I didn’t wish his death. Third person. Kayla and Jason were just in the middle of sharing a warm hug when a voice interrupted from behind, causing them to swirl abruptly. “Yes! She is a threat to this pack and if anything, she should be eliminated”, the voice added and slowly, Kayla lifted her head to meet that of the owner. It was Mason. Her heart dropped as she took down a very big gulp of her own saliva. She jerked up to her feet, lowered her eyes to the ground and drew in a very deep breath. “Mason, I understand how you feel. I felt that same way when I learnt of my mother’s death. Trust me, I was hurt to the core”, Kayla tried to explain but that seemed to further infuriate Mason. Mason eyes were on fire as he glared at her in rage. It felt as though she was responsible for their entire predicament. “Your mother’s death? Was that why you did this?” He asked with a broken voice and again, Kayla’s heart missed a beat. She couldn’t tell if she was sharing their pain because she was also their mate,

I had a lot of thoughts in my head and even if I direly wanted him to apologize to me, I didn’t wish his death. He brought his death upon himself though because he had thought that Denver’s pack was at peace with him. That was the major mistake that allowed his death. Just then, a loud wail came booming directly into my ears and abruptly, I felt a cold shiver running down my spine. It was Jason. My heart broke into a thousand pieces as I held myself from jerking up and running towards his room. They hated me and I knew it. I had refused to help them with my powers even though they screamed and asked me for help. What was I meant to do? Save the man responsible for my mother’s death? That was something I would never do. A tear dropped out of my eyes as I clutched on to my chest and broke into a very silent sob. This might just be the re
