CHAPTER FORTY SEVEN

—JASMINE.

I sit up, my movements slow and deliberate, as I try to get a better look at the man in front of me.

His eyes, a deep shade of brown, lock onto mine, filled with a warmth that makes my chest flutter.

I watch as he directs multiple people to fetch the doctor, his voice firm and urgent, yet laced with a gentle concern that puts me at ease.

How does he know me?

Or How has he come to know me?

I should have guessed, though - the way he looked at me when he first walked into the room, with a gaze that seemed to hold a thousand secrets.

And the way my name rolled off his tongue, with such familiarity, such ease. It's as if he's known me for years, not just moments.

A shiver runs down my spine as I try to pinpoint everything.

Who is this man, and what does he want from me? I try to speak, to ask him, but my voice catches in my throat, and all that emerges is a faint whisper of confusion.

“Please, did my men hurt you in any way?” He asks.
