Chapter 97

Demetria stared at Kerry with big eyes as those words slipped from his lips. It felt like a lifetime ago that she believed anyone had last said them to her. Her ex said them, but she never felt like he meant them.

She knew she didn't love him like she was meant to love someone, that true love was a farfetched fantasy, but she knew, staring down into Kerry's eyes, that it was different with him, that the pull she had toward him was indeed the mating bond that the highest power blessed them with.

She bent down, one arm on either side of him, and smiled. "I love you, too."

The tattoo artist smirked, a little curious about her choice in artwork, but left them in the stall by themselves.

"You don't have to say it," he whispered, rubbing his knuckles against her collarbone. "You don't have to say it unless you mean it. I know this has been fast," he said, tucking

a strand of her blonde hair behind her ear. "It's been a whirlwind of drama." He chuckled, a small dimple denting his cheek.
