Chapter 1
Cassie POV“Show me your tits!”The creepy middle-aged guy shouted again at me as I swung around on the pole. He picked up a shot and downed it before he slammed the glass down on the table, running his hand over his shiny bald head.I ignored him, like I always did. The more wasted Gerald was, the more he'd shout and the quicker he'd get kicked out.“Come on, sexy! I came to see your tits!” He shouted again, and I hid a smile when I watched Ms. Ho summon the bouncer.Cue the shouting in three, two, one.I flipped upside-down into the “Russian Layback” pose and held it as Gerald started shouting about the lack of flesh in the club.“Third time this week. I don't know how many times the guy has to be told that he's got the wrong place,” Glitter said as she passed my podium with a tray of drinks for a corner table. She was right about that. What he was needing was a hooker, not a stripper - especially not a stripper in a bikini bar where flesh was served tastily clad in barely there lingerie.I flipped back over and landed in the splits, pouting provocatively as one of my regulars put $50 on the podium and winked at me. I blew him a kiss and picked up the money, bending over so he could watch me tuck it into my bejewelled bra. He'd most likely jerk off thinking about me later, but he wouldn't be the first so what did I care? His tip just helped me pay my rent.I slid off the podium, swinging my hips as I walked between the tables and smiled at the few patrons as I made my way to the change rooms.“Hey, Crystal!” One of the other dancers called to me, using my stage name, as I sat down at the dressing table. “Your phone has been ringing non stop. I think someone is desperate to talk to you.”I thanked her and grabbed my phone, seeing the twenty six missed calls from my best friend, Eliana.“I'll call you back as soon as I can,” I said to the phone as I set it back down.I was late for my weekly check in with her and she would probably be stressing. Motherhood had made her worry for nothing. It had been three years since I'd left my old life behind, running away from my past, my family and the man I'd been forced to marry. Only two people in the world knew that I'd gone to New York - my two best friends from university. The rest… well… fuck the rest.Ms. Ho walked into the changing room as I was pulling on my black tank top, concern shining in her almond shaped eyes.“That rude man is outside. He's waiting by the cars, drinking tequila straight from the bottle,” she started removing the clip-in blonde and pink extensions from my dyed black hair, her frown lost amongst the wrinkles on her face. “I asked security to chase him, but I don't think you should leave yet.”I patted her weathered hand gently as she lay my extensions on the dressing table. She was like a mother to all the girls who worked for her - we all came into her strip club lost, without hope, and she made sure we got back onto our feet.“I've got to, Ms. Ho. My shift at the nightclub starts in half an hour,” I smiled and shoved my sparkly outfit into my backpack along with my makeup.“Let one of the boys walk you out, then,” she insisted, and I nodded at her suggestion. It was probably a better idea than being attacked by a drunk.Ms. Ho waved one of her grandsons over and, after a rapid spate of mandarin, the man bowed to her and took my bag from me, leading the way to my motorbike.“I'll watch until you've driven off,” he mumbled, not very impressed that he had been taken away from his hobby of watching other men get hard-ons.Thanking him, I put on my leather jacket and helmet before I took my backpack and threw it on. Mounting the motorbike, I revved a few times before I roared out of the parking lot, no sign of the creepy drunk in sight. The city was chaotic, and dirty, and I hated it. It was worlds away from my hometown, the quiet Greek village in the middle of nowhere, where everyone knew everyone, and their whole lives’ stories. It was a great place to live - well, for the most part. The fact was that, no matter how much I tried to fit in, I would always be the outsider.Hybrids always were. You see, my dad is a werewolf who made a stupid, drunken decision and screwed a human woman who he had met at some bar. Nine months later, I was born… and quickly dumped on the doorstep of the packhouse. No human would want to raise a halfbreed like me, so I didn't really blame the woman. Hybrids were unpredictable in their genetics - either mostly human or mostly werewolf. I liked to say that I was the best of both worlds, the heightened senses and improved immune system minus a crazy wolf hanging out in my head. Either way, I grew up as the only hybrid in the pack and was seen as a complete and utter freak. The fact that my dad was actually the Beta of the pack and therefore basically second in command didn't help things. If anything, it made the other kids even more scared to talk to me. My only friend had been Alpha Dimitri Kythira's only son - and even that had dissolved like ice in a volcano when he turned eighteen. I was just fourteen at the time, and his abandonment had been my first and most lasting heartbreak.“Move it!” some dickhead taxi driver shouted at an elderly woman as she crossed the street, pulling me from my thoughts. I had to remind myself why I'd even come to this hell-hole.“It's harder to find you in a big city, Cass. So toughen up,” I told myself, holding my middle finger up to the taxi driver as I positioned my bike in front of the taxi and smiled encouragingly to the woman. He hooted, shouting obscenities out of his window while I ignored him, moving only when the woman was safely on the other side of the road. Then, with a triumphant grin at the prick-driver, I weaved between the cars until I parked outside of Poison Nightclub in the gated staff parking.“You're late, Cassie,” One of the bouncers, Greg, called to me as he carried a keg toward the bar.“I know, I know,” I called back, heading straight to the staff bathrooms to change into the black minidress which was the general uniform for the women working at the club.“The Boss has an announcement before we open so move your ass,” Greg returned without giving me a second glance.I dressed quickly, rushing to join the rest of the staff who stood in a circle around Mr. Maretti - aka The Boss. He was just the manager, but we had never met the real owner and everyone just followed The Boss's orders.“As you may know, the owner has been approached by someone wanting to buy this club. The man will be visiting this evening, so I want things to run smoothly. You hear me?” The Boss ordered in his raspy New Jersey accent. There were echoes of “yes Boss” before we all went to our separate stations.“I saw The Boss chatting to the potential buyer yesterday,” Jessie told me as we checked our side of the bar. “The guy is fucking hot!”I giggled, tying my long black hair into a high ponytail. “You have pretty low standards when it comes to guys, Jess,” I teased. She stuck her tongue out at me and I laughed.“I'll point him out to you if I see him when he comes in, but I swear he's a ten on the hot-o-metre,” she swore, her big blue eyes widening as she spoke. “Maybe even an eleven. He looks like a golden god, I swear.”I didn't say anything more, merely nodding as the DJ put on the opening music and Greg opened the doors to let the first group of patrons in.By midnight, the place was packed, a mass of writhing bodies on the dance floor, drinking and dancing their troubles from the week away. Jessie, myself and two other bartenders were serving the waves of people crowding around the bar, not daring to take a break in the chaos - just the usual situation every Friday night.I'd just passed a tispy patron her drinks when I felt his eyes on me. A tingle ran down my spine and I knew without looking up that I'd been found.Vasilios Kythira had found me.Chapter 2Cassie POVI ignored the feeling of being watched, knowing that it was too late to run now. There was no running away from someone like Vasilios. Even the first time had been a bitch of a task, and I'd had Eliana and Yvonne's help to do it. Now, I was as good as alone and there was no fucking way I'd manage it. “Whiskey, neat,” I heard his voice like silk, as he gave his order to Jessie. I watched out of the corner of my eye as he leant casually against the bar, his eyes glued on a pair of ladies who were dancing seductively against each other. “Yes, sir,” Jessie replied, and I swear she used her arms to push her gigantic breasts together, trying to entice him. Only the Vasilios I remembered was impossible to entice. He was practically a walking, talking statue, trained from the moment he turned eighteen to be the alpha he was born to be. Not that he was alpha yet - although, a lot can happen in three years, so perhaps he had in fact become alpha in the time I was away.
Eliana POVI didn’t go looking for trouble - in truth, it found me well enough without my help. I was just doing my thing, trying to make ends meet, and then BAM! Trouble.I walked away from table number three, surreptitiously rubbing my backside as I tried to rub away the sting from Wilson's slap to my arse. I hated that he always sat at the tables assigned to me, his eyes creepily staring at my chest whenever he gave his order like he was able to see through my clothes. He was a decent tipper, but I would totally skip out on the tip if it meant I could go home not feeling violated. Slipping behind the counter, I refilled the coffee machine and switched it on, reaching for my phone as I waited for the coffee pot to refill. “Eliana! What did I say about no phones during work hours?" my boss barked at me, his red rimmed eyes and creased clothes showing he had probably spent last night with a bottle of vodka.I rolled my eyes internally, but didn’t dare let my irritation with him show
Eliana POVDays passed without any incident, and I almost forgot about the run-in with Wilson and “the guy”.Almost.Wilson hadn't been back, not that he was missed. In fact, all the younger waitresses celebrated his absence. I personally suspected he was hiding out waiting for his face to heal up before he'd return, and there was no way in hell I was going to tell anyone what I had seen. The way he looked at me still made me shiver with repulsion."No use thinking about that waste of flesh," Ayla grumbled, irritated that I was ruining our celebrating mood with thoughts of Wilson. She was right. It was my mom’s fortieth birthday and my twin brother, Elijah, and I had planned to go all out for the surprise party - streamers, balloons, a massive birthday sign and the most delicious cake from the bakery down the road."I'm sorry I can't help you set up for your mom's surprise party, but I promise I'll be there as soon as I can," Sarah sighed, unlocking her car. "I'm secretly hoping Dann
Eliana POVMy voice was unsteady, my eyes fixed on the whip which was coiled and secured to her belt. A slow smile spread across her lips and she bent down to take my face in her hands, looking deeply into my eyes. "The auction, of course. And you, my pretty little one, will fetch quite a nice price." Her cackling laugh echoed in the empty room, a sadistic gleam in her eyes. Fuck. I was in for it now.Swallowing the panic attack which threatened to return, I sniffed the bread and smelled something slightly off about it, throwing it into the corner of the room instead of eating it. It was clearly doped with something, and I didn't want to take a chance with it. I could deal with my rumbling stomach for now. About ten minutes later, the rogue with the face tattoo came in and snapped an iron collar around my neck, pulling me to stand by the short chain he held tightly in his fist. "You're just like the little human girls tonight. Wolfsbane has made sure of that, no wolf is goin
Eliana POVAfter the auction, I'd been guided toward a black SUV with tinted windows and told to wait until my master joined me. Master! Someone fucking owned me now! It felt like forever before the door opened again and the guy who had bought me - my mate, my master - joined me, his face blank. He looked me up and down as the car began to move away from the haunted looking house before he nodded and looked away. I felt dirty, worthless, violated. All of a sudden the panic attack which had been teetering on the edge of my consciousness shattered over me and nausea washed over me. I covered my mouth as I gagged, trying to force whatever was in my stomach down so that I wouldn’t embarrass myself in front of him."Stop the car," he instructed the driver. I gratefully clambered out of the car and into the bushes on the side of the road, emptying the contents of my stomach into the foliage. Just what I wanted my mate to witness! He handed me a bottle of water and I rinsed my mouth out be
Luca POVThe more Nina continued her rampage, the more I felt like putting my hands on her shoulders and shaking her until she shut the hell up. She was making the headache which had plagued me from the moment I had joined Eliana in the SUV infinitely worse. “Enough, Nina. I understand your concerns, but this is a business deal, not romantically linked at all,” I told her firmly, slumping down on the plush sofa at the foot of the king sized bed. “But she is your mate, you cannot tell me you won’t get your heart involved and neglect all that we have worked toward,” she threw back as she headed to the sideboard and poured a splash of brandy into a glass with ice before she handed it to me. I gratefully took a sip, savouring the oak notes before I swallowed and pressed the cool glass to my forehead. “Nina, I rejected her for that very reason. If it weren't for the fact that I spent far too much money getting her out of the hands of my enemies - and that she has a skill which we are d
Eliana POV When Enzo suggested a night on the town, I turned him down, hoping to bury my sorrows in the chocolate stashed in the hotel minibar instead. I understood that he was trying to get my head off of my brother and the lies I was going to have to tell my mom, but I didn’t really feel like partying. I knew that Elijah was alive - call it intuition or “twin-telepathy”, I could feel it in my bones that he was somewhere out there, alive. It took all I had in me not to break out of the penthouse suite and hunt him down, but the doors to the elevator were guarded by werewolves who looked like they were related to the Hulk, and abseiling to the ground from the balcony was a definite “no” from me. Enzo kept nagging though, saying it would be good for me to get out. I eventually caved, knowing that Enzo’s team were searching for Eli and that they had the man-power and skill I could never match. I had to believe that it would be alright, I had to trust him - even though it was extremely
Eliana POVThe bartender clawed at Luca’s hands, trying to pry them from his throat without success. He even tried kicking Luca, but this just made the alpha angrier and I could see the fury of his inner wolf flash through his green eyes.Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a rather round man dressed in black with a gold chain strung around his neck hurry toward us, his face pale."Mr. Castello! Oh my! Could you please put my employee down so that we can talk about this?" The man practically quivered in his shoes.Luca turned to the owner of the strip club and looked down at him, not releasing the bartender as the man continued to dangle in the air. He was turning a horrible shade of purple, s

Eliana POVThe giggles of the little girl filtered through the house, bringing a smile to my face. It seemed as if it were yesterday when I had told Luca that we were expecting a baby, and now we were about to celebrate that little baby's second birthday.“Papà!” Gianna squealed just as the two of them burst into the kitchen, Luca holding the toddler on his shoulders. “You're wrinkling up her dress,” I warned him with a stern expression plastered on my face. He shrugged nonchalantly, eliciting more giggles from Gianna. “So? She's two, no one is going to expect a perfect outfit from a two year old. Just wait until she gets her hands on the cake.”I guess dressing her up in a satin white dress wasn't the smartest idea, but I had wanted her to look like the little princess she was - at least to her father and myself. “Are your parents coming?” Luca asked, lifting Gia from his shoulders and setting her firmly on the floor. “They will be late, as always,” I responded, handing him a tray
Cassie POVLong after Yvonne had gone to her hotel room, Vasilios had disappeared to his own apartment and Enzo had crashed in the spare room, Luca and I got a chance to finally be alone. “It seems like I cannot let you out of my sight without you getting into some sort of trouble,” he sighed as he fell back onto the bed and yawned.“It's not my fault I'm a magnet for weirdos and creeps,” I grumbled, wrapping my robe tightly around me. Luca raised himself up on his elbow and watched me through hooded eyes, “I'm hoping that my mere presence will be enough to chase those types away. I'm going to be the only man to touch that gorgeous body of yours until death do we part.” I giggled and joined him on the bed, fitting into his arms as if I belonged there - and I guess I did. “Who would have thought, that night when I messed coffee all over your table, that we would be where we are now?” I said softly, my fingers threading through his hair. He chuckled with a smirk on his face. “In my
Eliana POVLuca passed me a cup of tea as I curled up on the couch of his London flat, waiting for news from the hospital about Elijah’s surgery. Vasilios had made sure that the top surgeon on his payroll was part of the surgery, not trusting the council's doctors in the least. “He will be okay,” Luca said softly, reassuring me for probably the thousandth time.Vasilios grunted from the other side of the living room, as if disappointed that I didn't trust his man. Well, either that or he was still angry at me that I refused to tell him where Cassie had gone. Probably the second option. There was a knock on the door seconds before it was flung open and Enzo waltzed into the apartment as if he owned it, Yvonne close on his heels. “If you wanted to give up your alpha title, there are easier ways,” he told Luca with a whack on the back. Luca shoved him playfully, “I thought it would be more fun this way.”Yvonne rolled her eyes and collapsed onto the couch next to me, gripping my hand
Luca POVA scream ripped from Eliana's mouth the second we heard the explosion, before her screams turned to heart wrenching sobs. I pulled myself up and tried to move toward the door to see what had happened, but she grabbed my hand, fear shining brightly in her eyes.“I'm just going to check out what has happened,” I tried to tell her reassuringly. “I'll be right back.” “I'm coming with you,” she clambered to her feet. “I'm not staying behind in this house for another second longer than I have to.”Gripping my hand, she followed me outside, through the kitchen door and into the small, enclosed courtyard. I could smell the blood before I could see it, the metallic scent unmistakable. “Stay here,” I commanded Eliana, not entirely sure what I'd discover when I walked through the arched doorway into the garden a few metres away. She clung to my arm, seemingly not registering my words. Slowly, I pried her fingers from my arm and forced her to sit down on an ancient looking rocking chai
Eliana POVMy head pounded like I'd been beaten severely, and I struggled to pry my eyes open. There was laughter echoing in my head and making the headache a thousand times worse. With a groan, I pushed myself up into a seated position as my vision became more clear and I could see what seemed like an extremely old kitchen. Extremely old and extremely dirty.“Ah, look who has decided to join us,” I heard Marco laugh before he kicked out at Luca's outstretched legs. “Guess I'll be able to start my fun sooner than I thought.”Luca growled and launched himself forward, only to yank the table we were apparently tied to with him slightly. “Nah ah ah, alpha. I'd hate to have to waste more tranquilliser on you. Your little stunts at my warehouses have left my stocks rather low,” Marco huffed, folding his arms like a sulking child. “Why are you doing this, Marco?” I asked, desperate for answers. He laughed and shook his head. “Oh, dearest Eliana. You missed my big confession to my big brot
Luca POV The moment I felt the ground shudder under Bruno’s paws, I knew we had fucked up. The bastard knew we were coming and he was ready for us. And then I heard his laughter, that maniacal laughter that could only come from the mouth of a mad man. “Welcome to my humble abode,” he laughed, circling the cage cautiously. Elijah’s wolf was frantic, launching himself at the bars again and again until I was sure that blood would start to pour from his snout at any moment. He continued until Marco slammed his hand against the cage and shouted. “Enough, you mongrel. Didn’t you learn the last time you were in a cage that it is pointless to fight it?” It didn’t work though, and Elijah continued to launch himself at the bars until Marco went into a shed and returned with a gun, aiming it at the other wolf. Eliana’s wolf panicked and tried to grab Elijah’s wolf by the scruff of its neck, but he was too strong and threw her off of him with ease. Marco aimed the gun and pulled the trigger,
Eliana POV“I won't rat out my friend,” I said for probably the thousandth time in the last twenty-four hours. Luca raised his eyebrow at me in the rear view mirror before he sighed loudly and turned to my brother in the passenger seat.“Has she always been this stubborn?” He asked.Elijah chuckled and nodded, “pretty much so. She was the challenging child when we were growing up.”I huffed and folded my arms, ignoring the two in the front of the car. “Vasilios is going to find her one way or another, so all you'd be doing is reducing his anger at her when he does find her,” Luca said, changing tactics slightly. It didn't work. “He'll be angry either way, and if I said something she'd be angry with me instead,” I said boldly. “Now can we drop it? I'm not going to tell you where Cassie is and that's the end of the story. She's safe, she's happy and that's all you'll ever hear from my lips on the matter.” Luca shook his head in disbelief before he fixed his eyes on the road ahead a
