DACIANA'S POV
As I swam across the lake, I stared at the moon with its beautiful light illuminating the lake, giving it a glittery look. It looked beautiful and captivating, like scattering diamonds over water. My bones, which had been aching all through the ride, were now relaxed in the water. My muscles felt good as well. I stopped swimming and looked at the spot where Corni was standing guard, and his back turned to me. I was grateful for meeting him and for knowing him, too. He was a good man, and the way he didn't think twice to help me really amazed me, even though Howard was also his Alpha. If we were caught, it could be seen as treason, and we would be put to our deaths. I decided to do one more lap before I got out of the water when I felt something coil around my leg. I tried to shake it off, thinking it was seaweed, but instead, I felt it coil around my two legs. I wiggled my legs together, but it wouldn't budge. I looked inside the water, and it was a freaking seaweed, only that this one looked more alive, and it had a tight leash against my leg. I leaned downward and tried to rip it off me, only to see two more reach upwards and tighten around my arm. I tried the cut it off, but it was thicker than a rope. I raised my head to call for help, but I was too focused on trying to tear off the weed on my legs that I didn't know I had been pulled down into the water. I wiggled and wiggled around, trying to fight it, it it was useless. I was naked with no sharp objects with me, and the leaves seemed to be increasing as they wrapped around me. I couldn't see where they were coming from, just a black hole in the water. I looked up and saw Corni enter the lake, swimming for me. I tried to reach for him, but my hands were trapped. I was starting to feel lightheaded. The most that I've held my breath underwater was thirty minutes, and I'm guessing I must have spent more than that while struggling with the seaweed. My body jerked forward uncontrollably as I could feel the oxygen slip out of me and into the water. Black spotted my vision, but I could see Corni tear into the seaweeds, cutting them off like vegetables. I smiled and finally passed out. I knew he would come for me. He always did. I felt someone's lips on mine as they blew air into my mouth and then pressed their palm on my chest, pressing down hard that I shot up instantly to yell at the person and ask if they were trying to kill me, but all I could do was puke out water. My brain was muddled, and my vision was blurry. I was heaving uncontrollably, and I could feel someone's hands rubbing against my back. When my vision cleared, I was staring at a thick night forest. To my left was the lake, and I scrambled away from it into a thick mass, which wasn't a thick mass technically. “Easy, Easy, I've got you now.” I looked at Cirni as he tried to calm me down. He looked unsure like he wanted to wrap his arms around me but didn't know how I would react, so I moved instead. Pushing myself against his body, I wanted to wrap my hand around him but noticed I was wrapped in a thick blanket. After shaking off his shock at my actions, he put his arms around me and hugged me tighter. “It's okay, you're safe now.” He breathed as he placed his chin on my head. I relaxed visibly, thankful that Corni had been my knight in shining armour once again. “Why didn't you cry out for me? Why didn't you call for my help? The seaweed didn't pull you immediately, did it?” He asked worriedly. I felt almost ashamed of what I was going to say, but it was what I deemed right at that moment. “I thought I could save myself. I'm stronger than I was back then, and I wanted that assurance that I could save myself no matter what I faced. Guess I still need you to save me.” I said with remorse. “Of course, you still need me. Needing a save doesn't make you weak. Admitting you can do it all on your own. No matter what it is, you should always call for me when you realise it's something you can't handle on your own.” I wanted to tell him that it wasn't like that. I did want to call for him, but it was already too late. “Do you know how scared I was when you weren't in the lake? I knew there was no way you had drowned, and watching your body give up air was the most horrifying sight I've ever come across in my entire life. I wasn't going to stop performing CPR on you if you didn't wake up.” Corni reprimanded me, and I felt bad for worrying him. This General, the leader of the Alpha's army, a man who had gone to war and had battled so many packs and seen a thousand bloodshed with a gruesome way to die, was scared of me drowning. I wanted to ask him why. Why he was so bothered about me? If anything, I saw myself as a burden to him. Maybe it was because he needed me for his plan. I decided to keep my questions to myself and not ruin the moment, the moment where he looked vulnerable. When my body stopped shivering, and he was sure that I wouldn't be going back to the lake, he packed the bag he had brought and carried me in his arms, walking through the forest. “They've set up our tent.” He said, his face going back to the stoic expression he maintained as his life depended on it. “Do you know what attacked me tonight?” I asked, and he nodded. “They are called the witches seaweed. Deadly things, it was never in the lake before. No matter how powerful you are, no matter how strong, it'll bring you down. The trick was to not move when they're about to circle on your feet. They'll try to tickle you first. If you move, they'll know you're a living being and drag you into the water. But if you manage to stand still, it'll eventually loosen and leave you alone.” “But you battled it with your sword?” I asked. “Not everyone goes swimming with a blade.” He said as a matter of fact, and I hummed before laying my head on his shoulder and being unable to keep my eyes open. I fell asleep in his arms. “Wake up, Daci.” I felt a light tap on my cheek. My eyes fluttered open to the rhythm of the tap. “We’re back?” I asked drowsily. “Yes, I'm going to leave the tent so that you can change your clothes, and when I tuck you in, I'll go to bed.” He explained. “Can't you dress me up instead?” I asked tiredly. Goodness, my bones were sore, and I really wanted to sleep. “But I can't do that. Things will be awkward between us tomorrow. And I don't want that, and it'll risk our appearance in the pack.” Corni tried to explain to me, but I was hell-bent on making me change my clothes. “Please.” I pleaded. “We're going to be portrayed as a couple soon. We have to learn how to share a bed eventually. Just dress me up. It can't be that hard. It's not like you find me tempting or anything.” Each word was said with a tiny little yawn and a bit of drawl. Corni said something, but I had no idea what it was. I snuggled closer to him, even though his clothes were still wet from the lake, and the last thing I remember was the blanket being pulled off me and a light groan. I woke up to light flashing across my closed eyes, and it was lightning. My eyes were on that tiny little space that showed me the dark sky. I had no idea what time it was, only that it couldn't be dawn yet because the clouds were thick and gloomy. It didn't look like it'll rain…not yet. I turned on my bed only to be met with another body in bed with me. I almost screamed until a flash of lightning illuminated his face, and I realized it was Corni. Corni was in bed with me? How did that happen?CORNI'S POVWhen I woke up the next morning, before the crack of dawn, Daciana was fitted against my body like a glove. Her hands were over my neck, our faces were close to each other, her body was pressed against me like a sandwich, and her leg was intertwined with mine. I smiled at our position and what I wouldn't give to wake up like this every morning. Last night had given me such a scare that I didn't want to risk it anymore. I wanted to go at her own pace and give her time to want and desire me herself, but after what happened, I'm starting to rethink my decision.I gently pulled her off me and got off the small makeshift bed, and she hugged the pillow as soon as I left. I walked out of the tent and mindlinked all the soldiers to get ready to move. I took one of the buckets we had and fetched a good amount of water for Daci that she would use to take her bath. I didn't want her anywhere near that lake. I sent my men to the lake to have their bathe, but not without holding a
DACIANA'S POVCompletely ignoring my father's presence, I stared at Ava, amusement dancing in my eyes. “Of course. That's if you have any business with going to the other side of the world. I haven't been in these parts longer than two months, and I'm sure I would remember meeting someone like you.” “Of course, forgive me for my quick suspicion about you. I promise that it was done from the goodness of my heart.” Ava gave a slight gesture that couldn't be passed as a bow, but it could be seen as a sign of respect. “Ava, why don't you escort the couple to their newly made bedroom? I'm sure they must be exhausted from the long journey.” Howard said without glancing at Ava. His eyes were on me the whole time. Gross. He wasn't even trying to hide it, and it almost felt like he was silently challenging Corni for my hand. Only if he knew who I really was. He would probably be racing in the opposite direction, screaming bloody murder.“Alpha, I'm very grateful for your kind thoughts, but
CORNI'S POVI stared at Daciana as she blushed a thousand shades of red. I was expecting that question, to be honest. Being actual mates did include actually mating. “It all depends on you, little mate. Do you want us to have sex?” I asked, my voice going a notch lower, almost like a husky growl, because, in reality, I would love nothing more than to have her naked under me on my bed, but I didn't want to scare her away. Her eyes snapped up to mine, and she bit her lips like her life depended on it. Her cheeks were no longer red. They were hot…like fire hot. I placed my thumb on her chin and pulled at her lips. “Don't damage your lips so early in life. That opportunity should only be given to your mate.” I rubbed the pad of my thumb across the soft tissue, secretly hoping I could have a taste of it once more.“Why are you playing with me? Does it help you sleep at night?” She asked breathlessly.“How ironic when it's the one that actually keeps me awake.” I grinned, my canines flash
DACIANA'S POVMy body had a warm fire burning in it, an uncontrollable one. It was the first time I had experienced something like this, this heat, this unexplainable desire to have someone, to want him. I've never been in a relationship before, and my father always sang in my head that he would kill me if I ever gave myself to someone other than my mate. And look at me now, doing what he threatened against. Ding!Corni paused, my eyes flew open, and our lips were just inches away from each other. Corni pulled away and sighed. “The oven is calling me.” Our forehead was pressed against each other, and I was hoping he would forget the oven and continue what he was about to do. But then my stomach growled loudly, and I flushed. “We have to feed that little monster.” He pointed toward my stomach, placed his head into my neck, and moaned, “The wait is killing me.” He took a big whiff of my scent, his hands gripped my nails tightly, and just when I was about to dig my hands in his hai
CORNI'S POV“Corni,” I opened my eyes and stared at her. She looked worried. “Are you okay?” I just stared at her, at her clear, expressive eyes. She didn't look like she'd cried in her life. Her eyes were just too white. I felt her small human hands stroke my fur.“It's alright, everything will be fine. You don't need to say a word.” And she gave me that beautiful smile, and I almost thought my heart would jump out of my skin. She repositioned herself so that she could cuddle me better, all the while, my head was pressed against her chest, and I buried deeper into it, my eyes closing as her caress and the softness of her breasts led me to sleep. Before I woke up, my ears wiggled around, listening for things, but all I heard were nightwalkers announcing their presence. An owl was even hooting nearby. My eyes opened slightly, and even in the darkness, I could see. I looked around and realised that we'd fallen asleep outside. The fire from earlier had died out long ago, and no smoke was
CORNI'S POV“Enough to accept her as my mate. Why? Are you doubting her?” I raised my brows.“Of course not. I wouldn't dare do that. It's just…she gives off this aura of bad energy.” She smiled.“I'm sure it's just a misunderstanding. What about your Luna, Alpha? I haven't seen her since I got back. Is she okay?” I asked with false curiosity.I watched Howard and Beta Whitemane's faces turn red while Ava looked like she was about to cry.“What happened? Why the long faces?” “Moana is dead, Corni.” Howard replied, and I gasped. “Oh, my goodness. How did it happen?” “My daughter killed her sister.” George Whitemane growled, his fist clenched.“But why would she do that? I thought she left the pack to further her training. When did she get back?” I questioned.“A few months back. Turns out she's the Alpha's mate, but when she realized that he was with Moana, she couldn't bear the sight of it and thus poisoned her only sister.” Ava said, her voice thick with emotion.“Wow, I didn't th
CORNI'S POVI dropped the box on the chair with the bag that had her shoes before placing my hand on her back and stroking it. “What is it, baby? You can tell me.” “Where were you? I was so scared!” I could hear the desperation in her voice, and she sounded like she was about to cry. And that was when it hit me: this was the first time we'd been apart in months, so it must have taken a toll on her. “Were you scared that I left you? But for what reason? I still haven't had my revenge yet, and there's still your plan, which we have to do something about. I can never abandon you.” I said softly as she buried her face in my neck.“I know, but my stupid brain refuses to believe that, and different thoughts and images have been going through my mind. I was scared that today was the day they'd find out my identity. I didn't want to attend the bonfire feast without you.” I genuinely felt guilty for taking so long to get home, and I whispered promises upon promises to always be there for
DACIANA'S POV“You might want to re-do your hair and makeup.” He stared at me intensely. And I knew that his eyes mirrored the arousal that mine held. _I wanted him, I wanted him badly._He looked at me like he finally realized what I was doing. “You're not wearing your mask?” I smiled. “No. I asked for Jared to see me and asked him to show me how to wear the make-up for tonight because I knew that you don't like the mask, you prefer seeing my face, and tonight is for us, not for Howard or my father or his wife nor the pack members. It's for us.” I grinned, and for a minute, he looked pleased, and then he pulled me close to him again, our lips barely touching.“Is it a crime if I want to kiss you again?” He bent down and groaned against my neck and sucked it lightly. I placed my hands on his chest and pushed him away lightly. “Yes. Because we won't make it to the feast on time.” He growled and moved away. “By the way, isn't it a bonfire feast? Why dress like the feeling of royalty
