Eloise’s POV:
He growls menacingly, cutting me off. A smirk plays on my lips.
So he is afraid of something. The feared, most despicable Alpha is afraid of rejection. I continue, “reject you, Alpha Kaden Kyson of the Blood Hounds Pack.” Leaving the hotel, I am carrying my heels with one hand and the other my purse and phone. Glancing around, I furrow my brows when I realize I am not in my father’s territory. I feel eyes glaring daggers at me from somewhere above, and I look up, only to make eye contact with the same asshole I rejected. His strange onyx eyes glinted mischievously as he stared down at me.“You will be back, mate.” I remember him say calmly and confidently after he’d pinned me on his bed, planting kisses everywhere on my skin before I shoved him off. The truth is, I was shocked with the way my body reacted to his touch. Inexplicable sparks danced across my skin, erupting from all the places he had touched.
“Admit it. You cannot escape the bond,” he purred. I shake away his voice in my head and order a taxi to pick me up from Alpha Kaden’s damn house. After booking an Uber, I glance down at my watch and see that it’s already seven a.m. Shit. Pulling out my phone, I turn it on and gasp at the shitload of messages I received from my Mom, Dad, and Dex. I press on Dad’s message firsts and see a bunch of messages saying the same thing.
“Come home. We need to talk.” My wolf howled, and I knew she was just as nervous as I am knowing Dad. He’s overly protective of me. I screwed up. This is the first time he finally agreed to my conditions and I have ultimately let him down.Stepping out of the car, I pay the guy and watch him drive off from my parents’ house. Turning around, my hands tremble and my lips quiver in fear knowing I am about to face my father’s wrath. One thing raced in my mind. Dad is going to kill me.
The floorboards creak as I open the door to our lavish three-story home, my heart beats rampantly, and I hold my breath at the sound of footsteps coming from the kitchen.
“Eloise Sage!” I turn wide-eyed to find my Mom in her little apron and booty shorts, nothing else. Her hair is a cute mess. She had put make-up on, but it’s all smudged from whatever encounters she made last night.
My mom has a weird way of pronouncing my name though. Although she’s pure Latina, she spent most of her life in the United States. It was only recently she decided to relearn her native language, applying her learnings to daily life.“Donde estabas?” she races towards me, cupping my chin with her soft hands.
My brows furrow, when my father steps into the room in time to save my life, or take it. “My office.” He bellowed, his scanning me head to toe, taking in my full appearance before I had the chance to shower or wash away his scent. I swallow. “Go clean up. I will see you after.” He said and left without another word. I blink. Well, that went better than I expected. I think. I excused myself from Mom heading upstairs to shower. So many questions races through my mind about my father’s strange actions since finding out I spent the night with his biggest archnemesis. He should feel a tad angry for even allowing myself to meet him, right? Strange. I thought, testing the water I prepared for my bubble bath. Grabbing the lighter, I lighted my lavender scented candle before stripping off my clothes.*********************
In my father’s office.
Standing for almost fifteen minutes in front of my father’s office, I finally muster up the courage to knock three times. I rushed getting dressed, not having any time to look at my face in the mirror. My father is known not only for his capability to lead a pack, but also his increasingly short temper and intolerance of tardiness. I shift my feet nervously, waiting for a response.
After a moment, I hear his gruff voice. “Come in.” Opening the door, I was already going through the speech I constructed in my head while in bubble bath when he clears his throat. I look up realizing I have been avoiding his deadly gaze afraid of his reaction. “Dad, I can explain.” I start. My father sits back on his big chair behind his oak table. I used to play in this very office as a kid and play hide and seek with him on the weekends. Yet, now his face is pulled back in a frown as he stares at me, and I hope it’s not judgement I see in his eyes. His eyes are focused on me, yet somehow they skim down below my face. “Start by that mark on your neck.” I squeeze my brows in confusion, my hands darting to my neck on impulse. Quickly, I turn my head to look at my reflection in the mirror set up against the wall facing me. A gasp tore out of my throat, however, when I see a blue glowing mark like a tattoo on my damn neck. “W-What… I-I didn’t…” I stumble over my words, my eyes glued to the mirror and the stupid mark on my neck. I begin to scratch it but it does nothing to erase the mark.“I have no idea why I have this mark.” I whisper-mumble, facing my father who stands erect and walks over to me.
He comes close, and I shut my eyes closed waiting for his hand to strike me. But it never came.
“Why are you so tense?” he asks, pulling me out of my little panic attack.
“Huh? Aren’t you angry at me?” He looks at me, and sighs. “I understand why you might think that.” How could I not? All my life, he always warned me not to cross paths with Alpha Kaden Kyson of the Blood Hounds Pack.“After realizing Alpha Kaden is your mate, we made a deal.” My father says.
“What deal?” I raise an eyebrow, looking at him. But he doesn’t answer me. Instead, his eyes go to the door as if he’s expecting someone to walk in any second now. “You may come in, Alpha Kaden.” He calls out. Before I knew it, the most intoxicating scent that pulled me to him in the first place entered my nostrils, flooding my brain that leaves me feeling intoxicated. My wolf stirs from her wake, purring loudly as she scented the same man I rejected. Our fated mate.Eloise’s POVI rejected him because he’s an asshole who stole my virginity and my innocence. So why the hell is he here?“Dad?” I scrunch my brows, watching Alpha Kaden walk in. His head nearly hitting the door with how tall he was. He towered over us, including my father.I whip to him. “What is this?”“This,” my Dad gestured both of us to sit. He continued, “Is a negotiation.” I shake my head in refusal.“Alpha Viktor,” Kaden spoke, yet I kept my eyes fixed on my father.“Thank you for the invitation.” “You know what this means,” My father says, repeating the same words Kaden said in the phone with him. My brows furrowed tighter. Clearly, I am the only one left out.“Can you please tell me what is happening?” I ask, frustrated that my Dad will leave me out such important information that would have to require him to invite his biggest rival, Alpha Kaden, into our home.My father gestures for us to sit. Kaden takes his, and I huff before walking over the couch and plopping my ass
Eloise’s POV:I jump, whipping around when the towel is snatched off my hand.“Kaden!” I growl at him, but he smirks at me, his eyes trailing slowly down my naked body still dripping wet.“Get out!” I snarl, my eyes darting to the other towels before he stepped into my line of vision. “Let me get one thing clear, mate,” he growled the last part as if to intimidate me, but I glared at him head-on.His brow raise. Leaning in, he breathes in my scent and growls.“You will respect the mate bond, it is sacred.” I scoff at his words. “Did my father sent you in here to change my mind? Well, bold move mister, but it is so not working,” I roll my eyes at him and shove him away, meaning to move towards my bathroom closet to get a damn towel because I’m bloody cold when he drags me right back in the same position. What the hell is his problem? “I am your mate,” he snarls.“So? I rejected you.” I say a-matter-of-factly, loving the way his lip twitched in his anger with my defiance.“And I hav
Eloise’s POV:My father has been in and out of the house this week. He doesn’t tell me but I know he’s been out meeting Alpha Kaden, negotiating pack lands and pack assets. I could tell easily when he moves past me. One whiff of his scent and my wolf perks up in attention, salivating and wagging her tail for her mate. She has been howling insufferably in my ears, forming a pounding headache for the last hour.‘Ok, that’s enough,’ I finally snap.‘This is all your fault,’ ‘How is it mine?’ I ask, appalled my own wolf would blame me for something I did. Not that this is the first, still.‘Did you have to be a bitch and reject our mate?’ she snarls. I roll my eyes. ‘And do you really have to be such a drama queen?’ ‘At least I had the brain to think through things, before randomly blurting out a rejection that could well damage our life!’ ‘Don’t tell me you’re still sulking over that. You know who he is. A guy like that? Nothing good will ever happen with us being mated to someone li
Eloise’s POV:Everything that happened afterwards slipped by in a haze. We were both drinking, and I don’t remember half of the Arcane movie he made me watch before I passed out. It was something about family members who’ve lost their way before they found each other again, and that’s when he lost me.Hmm. Strange, I remember talking to Dex about Alpha Kaden and my father’s plans on marrying me off to him for some alliance. When I came to, it was dark outside, and I was already in Dex’s car’s passenger seat. “Wakey wakey sissy,” I hear Dex whisper into my ear. The smell of his perfume brought me back to my senses.“Will you stop calling me that?” I snap at a surprised-looking Dexter leaning his arm on the wheel. He was in the same white fit shirt and shorts when I came to his apartment.“God, I’m sorry, what time is it?” I groan, touching my temple and rubbing small circles to soothe it. I close my eyes. I have this worst headache ever. My head is pounding and for some reason, my bo
Eloise’s POV:ONE WEEK LATERDad and I were watching TV while my Mom cooked us dinner. We watched a new drama series and now we’re debating on whether the lead character was getting a comeback. I thought otherwise. I was just about to throw in my argument when the news flash turned on. I wasn’t interested and was ready for my rebuttal.“So, I was thinking—” My father points his finger and shushes me.“Be quiet, Elle. It’s about our pack,” he mumbles without even looking at me and his eyes plastered on the screen.I roll my eyes and get up, about to move towards the kitchen to help my Mom when I hear my name called out from the same news my dad was watching.Slowly, I moved back towards the living room. My body tenses as I feel the intense, deathly aura oozing off from no other than my alpha father. I gulp, finally stepping back into the living room where I see him now standing watching the news. His wolf’s fur was jutting out of his skin, his eyes flickering bright gold as he fought
Alpha Kaden’s POV:My eyes are glued to the video clip on the screen my beta, Colton, handed over to me an hour ago. One hour. One fucking hour had passed but I still couldn’t take my eyes off the screen. My whole body trembled with rage, and I’m surprised I was able to hold it in even for an hour of rewatching the clip over and over. It’s her. The woman on the same video clip I kept rewatching being stroked by another man is my own f*cking mate. Naked from head to toe, her mouth opens and closes in between moans, her face contorting in pain. I have seen women who liked mixing pain and pleasure in bed. Apparently, she’s one of them.“What are you going to do?” My beta Colton asks. I deadpan to him. My face devoid of emotion. Colton leans against the wall of my office, his arms folded across his chest with a deep smirk on his face. He finds it amusing that a woman, my own mate no less, would actually cheat on the me. Never in my long line of dating women had any one of them actually we
Eloise’s POV:The feeling was instant, a suffocating pain rolling over me before the phone slips out of my grasp. My entire body is shaking, my wolf howling miserably in my head as I fall apart. My heart is breaking, and I don’t know when it will stop. A scream tore through me, and my mother who had fallen asleep by my side jolts awake, looking around in confusion before noticing I had rolled off from the bed. My body colliding with the floor once again and grazing my wounds, but I didn’t care. “El, El,” My mother’s warm hand touches my face but I flinch. I am still suffering from the aftershocks of his rejection, and my body seems to be going through a rough time processing it. I scream, scratch, as if my instincts want me to tear my heart out of my chest so it would stop hurting. My mother shrieks and tries to stop me from clawing at my chest, but I won’t budge. Tears escape my eyes, streaming down my face while I cry out in pain. He’d made it sound so painfully clear, that he can
Eloise’s POV:Some of the omegas I had passed by snickered as I walked. My face reddened feeling the humiliation finally wash over me, making me realize just how real all of this is.I kept my head low, not wanting to place attention to myself. It’s the last thing I need after my private, reproductive organ had been blasted across the news. I was an embarrassment to the city, to my pack, and most of all, to my family.Entering the door to the pack doctor’s clinic, I find him sitting across his computer, typing away. His eyes move to me standing by the door before a shock crosses his features, almost as if he’d seen me grow two heads. Then he briefly moves his gaze back to the screen before tapping one of the keys on his keyboard a little too harshly before getting up.“El—I mean uh, Miss Eloise, why are you here?”The doctor looked rather worried, his forehead showing the fine wrinkles he brought with age, his lips pursed into a thin line as he looked over to me“I was hoping you coul
Eloise's POV:CL? Who the hell is CL? My wolf growled, racking my brain for any clues behind the initials.I stared at the note blankly for a few seconds.Shaking my head, I stripped off my bra and leggings, and rummaged for fresh clothes with the note still in my hand before the sound of the door unlocking had me straighten as I thrust the note into my locker.Kaden Kyson walked in with a dark look looming over his face, his eyes scanning the room before falling on me and my near-naked body. His dark eyes took in my undressed state, and I grit my teeth as I shoot glares at him.I had no choice but to wrap my arm around nipples, preventing Kaden to notice how they became hard in less than a minute when he stepped into the locker room. I shifted in my barefeet. He likes what he sees… Adeline giggled at the back of my mind, making me shush her and roll my eyes.“If you haven’t heard, training is over.” I declared, shooting daggers at him.He clenched his jaw as he walked over to me, ign
Eloise’s POV:No.No, no, no, no.I’m not going to ask for his help. Why not? My wolf grumbled. He’s our only chance.I shook my head. There is another way. You know what Dad said. If he finds out Mom turned into a vampire because I told him about this, he’ll kill her. Hell, maybe he’ll even conspire with the other alphas to kill us all, for protecting a vampire.I could feel Adeline’s hesitance, but thankfully she didn’t add anything more to it and retreated back into the depth of my subconscious.I groan, willing my heart to stop thundering like crazy in my chest.Anyone, anyone but him. Kaden Kyson is known for his mercilessness and power unmatched by anyone. Surely, he would not spare a turned vampire. Not even if she’s the mother of his mate.I tossed and turned all night, unable to forget everything that transpired from the black and blue bruises I saw on Dad’s arms and the mysterious guys who sauntered into the house like it’s their own.My father didn’t look like he was about
Eloise’s POV:“Run! Don’t stop, don’t look back, run!”Dad’s voice boomed in my head just as I clamped my eyes shut, anticipating the closet doors to be yanked open when I felt cold breeze rustle through my hair instead. When I open my eyes, I blink. Once, twice, until I finally came to a conclusion that what I am seeing is real.I stood frozen at the forest just outside of my father’s house, my heart thumping harder than I remember as it threatened to explode in my chest.Panting, I look around and back at the house as questions filled the back of my mind. What the h*ll just happened there? And how did I even get out of the house before I could bat an eye?I don’t understand…It seems we were teleported here. Adeline finally spoke, however the words she just said was the last thing on my mind.Teleported? You’re not making any sense… I say to Adeline, who immediately fell silent. When it takes a while for her to respond, I turned my gaze back to the house and squint at the largest wi
Eloise's POV:The man practically tried to kill you, El. Adeline hissed, but at this point, I’m not so sure anymore. I’m not sure because when I look into his eyes, all I see is the pain he’s hiding inside. There’s something more that he isn’t telling me. I can feel it. He’s hiding something, but I am yet to figure out what.He pulls down his sleeves, tucking it away and off of my sight as if thinking it would disgust me. But it don’t.“What can I do?” I choke, staring blankly at his covered sleeve. Then, determination surged through me as I glanced at the basement door where my Mum is locked. A weak thumping sound can be heard behind the door as if she was asking to be let out.Dad glances in the same direction, when something dawned over me.“I can help,” I whisper, staring off into the locked door of the basement. All my life, I never thought Mum would end up at such a place. Forced into a cage in our own basement… I shudder, feeling my heart tighten in my chest. So much so, I coul
Eloise’s POV:Turning around, Dad marches back into the kitchen before he rummages every drawer. He’s avoiding me, that much was obvious. With a deep sigh, I step further inside the kitchen. My eyes following his jittery moves when he finally stops. He grabs something from the pantry and spins around.“Aha, there’s cereal. A good chunk, too. It’s not much, but…” he shrugs, and proceeds to rotate to snatch a bowl as I walked forward.I pick up the box of cereal he placed on the dusty island bar and scanned it for its expiration date. A frown easily fell on my lips.“This expired over a year ago, Dad,” I sigh, and he stops whatever he was doing to turn around to face me.His pale face turned whiter than a sheet of paper. His eyes looked defeated, and he slumps down on the stool beside him.“I’m sorry, El…” he croaks and hangs his head.He rubs both his hands down his rugged face, and I was able to glimpse at the tiny beads of tears that slid down the sides of his face from the corner of
Eloise's POV:The run to my old home went by without a hitch. My senses on high alert, and I’m sure I would have picked up something if I felt something is odd. With my clothes between my teeth, I shift back into my naked form and quickly pull on my clothes. It is gloomy outside, and as I scanned the forest, I didn’t feel any presence. The track I have left was mine and mine alone, which meant nobody could have followed me all the way back.On my way here, I took a shortcut that only I knew without being spotted by the guards around my father’s territory. It’s a secret he taught me ever since I was a child, saying that if I ever needed an escape or emergency entrance to the house, I should use it.I did not use it to get in or out when I was banished, I didn’t feel the need to. Nor did I want to. It was clear he wanted nothing to do with me anymore, which stopped me every time the thought occurred. With a shake of my head, I knocked on the door. While waiting, I noticed that some of t
113Eloise’s POV:Alpha John kept his mouth shut during the meeting.Adeline scoffed in my head.He made the right choice. She commented.I giggled, knowing she is right.Kaden gave him deadly stares the entire time, even when it was not his turn to speak. I found it amusing that the dark Alpha could influence the other alphas into submission. Well, despite the huge age difference. From what I heard, Alpha John is already over his forties. I won’t lie though, he still looked good. He would be more handsome if he wasn’t such a prick.Adeline snorted.Yeah, right. What are the chances for that?I shook my head when Kaden’s voice tuned into my mind.“In conclusion, training for the females will begin as early as tomorrow.” He announced. Then his eyes scanned the crowd, landing on mine. The moment our eyes locked, my heart stopped.“Any other questions?”The crowd fell silent. Just as I thought nobody was going to speak, the handsome bloke beside me cleared his throat. We all turned to h
Eloise’s POV:He is fuming. Adeline pointed out, peeking at his reddened face through my own eyes. You got to admit, he’s more handsome when he’s mad. My wolf chuckled shamelessly and I rolled my eyes at her.I’m not trying to make him jealous. I defended myself. Adeline clapped back with a scoff. You know you can never lie to me, El. We’re basically one and the same. She prodded. This time, I did not pay my wolf any attention as I glued my eyes to Kaden’s face. His features, I noticed, had gotten sharper and darker. He did not even try to hide the fact he was angry with me for choosing a seat far from his side.“Hello,” the silky-smooth voice eased into my mind, and I raised my eyes.He extended his palm to me, “I’m Caleb, by the way,” he smiled, the man with light blonde hair who invited me to this seat. His eyes twinkled brightly and his smile reached his ears. It was contagious, I admit, and to think he was actually more handsome up close. There are specks of sky blue that surroun
Eloise's POV:Before I could answer for myself, Kaden’s muscular build moved in front of me, blocking me protectively from Alpha John’s heated glare.“She is here for the same reasons you are, John, she’s an Alpha staying at my pack territory. You will treat her with the respect her rank demands," Kaden growled, his voice carrying the authority of a true Alpha. His stance was rigid, his shoulders squared as he shielded me from John’s unwarranted hostility. My eyes fell on Alpha John who looked past Kaden towards me, a permanent sneer etched on his face.John scoffed, his lip curling in disdain."Are you f*cking serious, Kaden? You invite this rogue wannabe Alpha into such an important meeting, and expect us to give her respect?” he barked back, allowing his own aura to spread throughout the chamber in his anger.Adeline growled at the condescending tone and the rudeness of this man who calls himself Alpha.I raised my brow at him, amused.“What’s so funny?” he gritted, shooting me a s
