Cole is Jealous

(Cole’s POV)

“Nikki, stop squirming,” I tell her. She’s sitting on my lap, playing with my phone while I’m trying to work on Alpha duties.

“But I’m so bored,” she whines, pouting up at me.

Roy, she’s getting restless. Maybe we should take a break, I think to my inner wolf.

No, Cole. We need to finish this work first. Nikki can wait a few more minutes, Roy responds.

Roy, I understand, but she’s been patient. Let’s give her a short break, I decide.

“Waaack, I’m sooo bored,” Nikki whines louder, her voice on the verge of tears.

“Alright, baby Nikki, how about we go find the other pups? Would you like that?” I suggest.

“Wide wolfie! Wide Wofie!” she exclaims, her excitement evident as she stands up on my thighs and reaches for my shoulders. “Pwease, Weo?”

Just be gentle with her, Roy, I remind my wolf before giving him control.

(Roy’s POV)

“Faster, faster!” Nikki squeals, tugging at my fur as I run with her on my back.

I grin and pick up the pace.

Careful, Roy! Cole’s warning comes through, and I slow down immediately.

We stop outside the park where the other pups are playing. I gently set Nikki down before moving behind a tree to shift, all the while retaining Cole’s control over the body.

“Okay, Nikki, you can go play with the other pups,” I tell her, taking a seat on a bench while Nikki excitedly runs off to join a group of kids.

I watch her, feeling a surge of happiness at how carefree she is. I can’t help but envision our future, where we’ll have our own pups to play with.

My attention is drawn back to Nikki, who’s now hugging a young boy named Nick from our pack. An unexpected growl rumbles in my chest, triggered by a surge of protectiveness. I stride over, my gaze fixed on the boy.

“Re tis is Nich! He go school wif me! He my fwiend!” Nikki explains innocently.

My anger doesn’t abate, though. The boy’s presence feels wrong.

“Hello, Alpha Cole,” Nick says politely, setting off another wave of irritation within me.

“Alpha Cole’s not here, only Roy. And you better leave our mate alone,” I warn, my tone laced with authority.

“Ye-yes, Alpha,” Nick stammers, hurrying away.

She called me a meanie, Roy. She’s upset, Cole’s voice fills my mind, and guilt pierces through me.

(Cole’s POV)

“Nikki, I’m sorry Roy yelled at Nicholas,” I apologize, my heart aching at the hurt expression on her face.

“I’m mad at you both!” she exclaims, her lower lip jutting out in a pout. “I want Trevor!”

“Okay, Nikki,” I reply gently, taking control from Roy. I wince as the shift of power causes a jolt of pain in both of us. “Let’s head home.”

As we walk back, I feel the weight of my mistake settling in. Nikki’s upset and it’s my fault. I should have handled the situation better.

When we get home, Nikki rushes upstairs to her room, her frustration palpable.

“What did you do? You hurt Little Luna?!” Trevor’s voice booms in anger.

"I have taken Nikki for a ride when a male pup approaches her. She runs to him and hugs him. Then introduce him as her friend. Roy didn't like it and she warned the pup to stay away from her and that made her upset." I explain to him.

"My goodness, Cole were you and Roy out of your mind? Didn't you know that she is still a child and doesn't understand the bonding between mates? So, you should not restrict her from mingling with the opposite gender," Trevor scolded me.

"But what if she will fall in love with someone else?" I reasoned with him making a pitiful face.

"That is not possible, Alpha. She is your mate, isn't she?" Trevor asked and continue when I nodded my head in affirmation Trevor continue, "Then even it was impossible for her to fall for someone else. Since even though she was small she can still feel the bond between you guys and she is growing up in front of you. So how is it possible for her to fall for someone else?" Trevor asked and shook his head in disappointment when he didn't get any answer from me.

Our argument hangs heavy in the air as Trevor storms off to comfort Nikki. I slump onto the sofa, burying my face in my hands, overwhelmed by regret.

(Roy’s POV)

Inside the chaos of my thoughts, Cole’s voice pierces through, reminding me of my responsibility to make things right.

“Hey, Roy, you can’t just sit here. We need to do something to make Nikki feel better,” Cole’s voice urges.

And whose mistake is it that she’s upset with us in the first place? I counter, feeling defensive.

Come on, Roy. Let’s find a way to apologize and make it up to her, Cole insists, his tone more conciliatory.

The suggestion resonates with me, and I’m about to respond when he suddenly blocks me out.

I sigh and shake my head, frustrated with the ongoing argument between us.

Feeling restless, I head to the closet, grab a sweatshirt and pants, and head to the washroom for a shower. The warm water helps to ease some of the tension that’s been building within me.

After my shower, I head down to the kitchen to prepare something to eat. I wonder if Nikki has had dinner yet.

Trevor, did Nikki have her dinner? I ask through our mental connection.

Yes, I made her favourite meal and even got her some ice cream, he replies.

Is she still upset with me? I inquire further.

Yes, she is. Give her some space, and try to come up with a plan to make things right, Trevor advises before walking away.

I slump back into my room, my mind a whirlwind of emotions. My wolf’s words still echo in my head, and I can’t shake the feeling that I need to find a way to make Nikki forgive me.

I lay on my bed, hoping sleep would provide a brief escape from my turmoil.

Note the keyword: Tried.

Despite my best efforts, sleep eludes me, leaving me restless and frustrated. I eventually grab a pillow and a blanket, deciding to camp out near Nikki’s room. I lay down, my thoughts consumed by the desire to mend what I’ve broken.
