Chapter 3

Penulis: Violet Shen
Yannick was a grown man. If he did not cooperate, how long could I keep him here?

"Yulia, let me go. I promise I won’t leave."

I froze for two seconds, then stubbornly shook my head. "I don’t believe you."

"Yulia, I have something important to do. You can follow me, but you need to let me out."

Yannick thought that by offering this compromise, I would agree immediately. But I refused without hesitation. I told him firmly, "Until the police show up at my door, you’re staying here."

With that, he realized there was no way out. His dark eyes scanned me from head to toe several times. Then, unexpectedly, he gave in. "If you keep me tied up for seven days, my arms and legs will be crippled. Is that what you want?"

"No. But I have no other choice. I can’t fight you, and I can’t stop you. This is the only way."

"Yulia, I swear on my grandmother’s name that I won’t leave for seven days."

Mrs. Jordan Senior…

I knew how much she meant to him. I also knew that she had genuinely cared for me. When she passed away, Yannick and I had hidden in a corner, sobbing uncontrollably. That was the first time I had ever seen him cry.

"If you want my cooperation, you’d better untie me. Otherwise, by this afternoon, your house will be forcibly broken into by the police." Yannick’s voice was calm and sincere, and I knew he wasn’t lying. The CEO of Jordan Group going missing? That was a big deal.

I wanted to keep him here, but I did not want to be remembered as a criminal. I did not even need to guess it—of course, the media would twist the story into something absurd and scandalous.

Hence, I gave in.

I threw his clothes at him and slowly untied his wrists and ankles.

As he clenched his jaw and stretched his stiff limbs, he scolded me without mercy, "How did I never realize you were a lunatic?"

Expressionless, I replied, "There’s a lot you don’t know."

He stared at the mess of neckties on the floor, then turned to me in disbelief. "Where did you even get so many ties?"

"I bought them whenever I saw one that seemed to suit you. I didn’t realize I had collected this many."

At least they hadn't gone to waste—I had finally found a use for them.

"Then why didn’t you ever give them to me?"

I scoffed. "I don’t make a habit of throwing myself at someone who doesn’t care about me."

Yannick’s expression darkened. "So, you just decided to take what you wanted by force?"

Hearing that, my face burned with embarrassment. I had not thought about the consequences when I acted on impulse. But now, hearing him say it out loud, I suddenly felt incredibly ashamed.

Wanting a man so badly that I had to tie him up?

Ridiculous.

But the feeling passed quickly. I told myself that if I was going to do something crazy in this lifetime, at least this was worth it.

Yannick kept his word. After I let him go, he did not immediately try to leave. Instead, he asked for my laptop.

"You’re sending an email to Jason to ask for help?"

He gave me a look like I was an idiot. "Are you stupid? If I wanted to leave, I wouldn’t need anyone’s help."

I was not stupid. It was more accurate to say that my brain completely shut down. Still, I handed him the laptop.

I had already quit my job, so it was not like I had any use for it anymore.

While Yannick worked on the balcony, I curled up on the couch in the living room, silently watching him. The sunlight filtered in at just the right angle, creating the illusion of peace and serenity. Except this "serenity" was something I had shamelessly forced into existence.

The sun was blinding. The longer I watched, the sleepier I felt. I tried to stay awake, but eventually, my consciousness slipped away.

When I opened my eyes again, Yannick was nowhere in sight. I shot up, my bare feet hitting the cold floor as I frantically looked around. Then, I bolted into the bathroom. My heart, which had been in my throat, finally settled back.

But my rationality? It disappeared the moment I saw him.

I threw myself at him.

I did not have experience, so I had no technique. I just bit and kissed him wildly, desperate to leave a mark. My heart felt like it was constantly crashing into my ribs. I clung to him like an octopus, holding on with everything I had, afraid he would push me away.

Then, in a daze, I heard him sigh in exasperation. A strong arm wrapped around me, pulling me up.

"You’re insane," he muttered. "But I like it."

"What do you like?" Before I could react, he bit my neck. And just like that, the tables turned. I was starting to believe what Quella always said. For men, love and desire were two completely different things.Afterward, when the heat faded, Yannick leaned against the bed, studying me like I was some kind of alien species. "Yulia, I’m seriously starting to think you’ve been possessed."It made sense that he was suspicious. After all, I was not acting like the person he used to know.I gave him a solemn nod. "Yeah, I've been possessed by a horny ghost."He narrowed his eyes. "And this ghost couldn’t find anyone else?"I tilted my head. "Guess you were just the easiest prey."I grabbed my phone to order food, but he caught my wrist."What? You seduced me and took everything you wanted, so now, you want to toss me aside?" I ignored him.Thirty minutes later, the doorbell rang. When I returned, Yannick’s gaze was locked on the yellow paper bag in my hands, and his pupils shran

When it came to money, my so-called parents had never held back on me. But to them, I was nothing more than a painful reminder of their failed marriage—something neither of them wanted to look at.The Jordans, though? They were a ray of sunlight cutting through the storm. They treated me like family. I knew they were good people, and I also knew they pitied me.And now? Now, I had their son wrapped around my finger.Did I feel guilty? Not even a little. If he did not want this, there was no way I could have made it happen. But this was just me lying to myself.Yannick locked himself in the guest room the whole day and did not come out until nighttime. I sat at the dinner table, staring at the untouched food. I was not hungry.I knocked on his door. "Dinner is ready."To my surprise, he opened the door and walked out like nothing had happened. He sat down in silence, and his whole vibe screamed, "Don’t even think about talking to me."I did not care, though. I pulled out a hand

I watched as the last drop of IV fluid disappeared, the monitor's soft beep marking the end of the infusion. The doctor packed up his kit and glanced at Yannick. "Mr. Jordan, I’ll come again tomorrow."I pulled my hand away from Yannick’s grasp, my fingers brushing against the small bandage on the back of my hand."I’m fine now. You should go."He arched an eyebrow. "Go where? What, now that you’re done with me, you’re just tossing me back into the guest room?"I forced a small, tired smile. "No, I mean… you’re free. You can go wherever you want."Without another word, he turned and walked out. The door slammed shut behind him, the impact shaking the walls.Yeah. He was pissed.I had planned to hold out until the seventh day, but what was the point? I had already gotten everything I wanted. In the end, it was all about the experience.I had been selfish. If hell existed, I'd probably be first in line.…On the ninth day of my illness, I still had a mild fever, but that did n

Mom and Dad quickly built new families of their own. Before I turned 18, they would deposit my living expenses into my account every month. They were never late and always sent quite a generous amount. But two months after my 18th birthday, the money stopped coming. It had been more than ten years now, and I had not received a single call from either of them.I did not even know where they lived. I did not know if they were still in this city.Yet here Mom was right now, calling me affectionately, "Yulia, do you have time to grab a meal together?"I thought maybe this was God showing me mercy, making sure I would not leave this world too lonely. I went to the restaurant she mentioned. In the private dining room, she was seated at the table, and beside her sat a young boy. He looked about ten years old. When she saw me enter, she waved enthusiastically. "Yulia, come over and let me have a look at you. This is your younger brother, Zachary Quinn.""Zachary, greet your sister."I l

Mom saw me smash the cup and immediately pulled her son into her arms, shielding him like a mother hen."I'm only asking for a kidney! How can you be so heartless? Don't forget, I'm your mother! I gave birth to you! Helping your brother is the least you could do! If I had known you'd be this cold, I never would have had you!"The boy in her arms wriggled free, his glare burning into me. "Mom! I don’t want anything from this piece of trash! You said I was your only child!"I let out a dry laugh, clapping my hands slowly. "Wow. Bravo. Great performance."Mom froze. At that moment, Yannick stood up.She scowled. "Yulia! How can you mess around when this involves a kid? You're giving your kidney whether you like it or not!"Yannick stepped in front of me. "I’d like to see anyone try."I took a deep breath and patted his back. "Let me deal with this."I stepped forward and, for the first time in over a decade, I looked my mother straight in the eye. So, I have to keep making up excuses—ones you can't say no to."I squinted at him. "What are you rambling about now? When your mom joked about marrying me, you got so mad that you stormed off and didn't come home for days. Did you think I’d forget that?"Yannick hesitated, his lips curling into a faint, bitter smile. "I wasn’t mad about that. I was mad because I was afraid you’d never come back to my house again. And honestly? That’s not how I wanted you to hear it."His gaze flickered, full of hesitation. It made him look like a lost puppy."And besides, I heard from Quella that you’ve had a crush on someone for ages. I was jealous. Furious, even. I thought you were blind to not see what was right in front of you. But it never even crossed my mind that she was talking about me."When you dragged me to your place, I thought you were just heartbroken and using me as a

James never brought up taking photos of me again.I never expected Yannick to show up, though. And, of course, he had his usual scowl."Yulia! Look at you. You're all capable now, huh?"Right on cue, James stepped in front of me. "Can’t you talk to a girl without sounding like a jerk?"Yannick stared him down for a long moment before suddenly smirking. "Wow, Yulia, you’ve upgraded. Is this guy your new type?"James did not hesitate and swung his fist. Yannick squared up as well, ready to fight back. And I—of course—stepped in between them. This was not James’ problem. I was not about to let someone take a punch because of me.Yannick pulled his fist back, but his eyes burned red. I looked away as I could not meet his gaze. "Just go. Don’t mess up my life anymore," I said.I slipped my arm through James’ and forced a smile. Her next words hit me like a wrecking ball. "Since you’re dying anyway, why not do something good for your brother? Your kidneys still work now. Once you're dead, wouldn’t they go to waste? I completely broke apart.I had always thought I would go peacefully, slipping away in my sleep. But no—my dear mother just had to get in one last fatal blow before I left.My body gave up on me, and I could barely stay awake. I was stuck in bed, slipping in and out of consciousness. Everything hurt—every inch of me, from my hair to my toes.I started dreaming. Or at least, I think I did.I could hear Yannick's voice."Yulia, you have some nerve. I figured I would just finish the drip and head out, but before I could, the doctor walked in. Just like that, he hit me with the classic three-question horror sequence."You’re here alone? Where’s your family? How many times has this happened?"My stomach dropped. "Doctor, don’t do this to me. Just tell me how long I have left."I waited for him to crack a smile, maybe even roll his eyes and say I was overthinking. However, his face was all serious, his tone edged with helplessness. "You should call your family."Family?Yeah, I didn't exactly have any family. My parents divorced when I was in middle school. Both were loaded, but neither was interested in keeping me. I always told myself I had the kind of freedom other kids would kill for.I had a crush on Yannick for years but never dared to say a word. I told myself unspoken love was the best kind—because it let me dream endlessly. But now? There was no more pretending this was some cosmic gift. I had not even started livin
