I'm not gonna start with 'Once upon a time' because this tale is definitely not that old. I don't know if it's a tragedy or a happily ever after-- All I know is... It took me a lot just to be part of this story of me and him. Because I was breathing dreams like air until he came.
Everyone has the freedom to fall in love with anyone they want, but things are not the same for everyone. 'Your life partner will be decided even before you're born'...How would you like that?
The tale goes like this, Lucus Garnette and Aruto Hiomi were best friends in high school. Aruto Hiomi belonged to a rich Japanese family while Lucus was a farmer's son. At that time, Aruto's family was staying in Berlin, while Lucus went to a Berlin school as there were no schools in Miltenberg at that time. However, Aruto was quite open-minded and did not mind befriending Lucus. He helped Lucus financially and their bond deepened as they grew up. Soon, they became best friends.
After their graduation, Aruto decided to go back to Japan to take over his father's business while Lucus went back to his village to help his father with the dairy but they were still in contact because of this great invention called a 'telephone'. They decided that to strengthen their friendship, they'll get their children married to each other.
I wasn't born till then, neither was Kirito.
After a year, the Garnette family was blessed with a beautiful daughter. She had bright blue eyes surrounded by long and beautiful eyelashes. Her pinkish white hair glorified her face with a tint of pink undertone on her cheeks and rose like lips.
Mr Lucus was overjoyed and sent for Aruto right away.
Under a dove grey sky, the colours of the world don its winter coats, each hue darker and richer than before. The path was sparkling and crunchy as they left their footprints. The air formed a frozen lace on their skin, delicate and cold, like winter waves on sallow sand. They reached a small house and knocked at the door. Mr Lucus Garnette, a blonde, meek man, opened the door.
Aruto hugged Lucus and congratulated him.
They reached the baby's room, where the baby was lying wrapped up in a swaddling and soft white blanket near her mother. Mr and Mrs Hiomi looked at the baby girl. She was fast asleep with her small curls covering her face. "Aw," Both of them said together.
"She'll make the perfect bride for my son," Mr Hiomi said with a smile "What's her name?"
"We decided to name her Vivian, it means someone who is 'Alive and Energetic'" Lucus said "That's a beautiful name," Aruto said "Then I'll name my son Kirito- the God of the valley of the alive," Mr Hiomi said.
So, my husband was meant to be a God I was supposed to worship for the rest of my life. I wish they had taken good care of him, for me at least... But they didn't. Five years passed, I was five years old then and Kirito was four.
Mr and Mrs Hiomi traced back the same path as he was walking down, on that winter dawn. It was autumn and the sky was barely visible due to the orange leaves of the trees. He kept his suitcase aside and knocked the same door again. The door opened and a woman with pink curls came out. As soon as she saw them, she smiled "It's been a while, Mr and Mrs Hiomi. And how are you, Kirito?" She said as she leaned towards Kirito. Kirito hid behind his mother. He was the shy type, well and I, I wasn't.
"Lucus is out for some petty business if you could wait here for a moment" Mrs Garnette said. "Where is Vivian?" Mr Hiomi asked.
"She's playing in the fields, why don't you go meet her," Mrs Garnette suggested with a smile. "Yes, I will," Mr Hiomi said as he got up and paced towards the field. He wandered in the fields for some time until he found me, a girl sitting on a huge Jersey cow. I looked at Mr Hiomi and smiled "Do you want this berry uncle, you can take it, Vivian has many" Like all other five-year-old kids, I was stupid. But unlike all other five-year-old kids, I was going to be engaged.
He asked me if I knew him and of course, I didn't. I had never seen him before, that's what my memories said but was I right? Definitely, I wasn't. But, I did know about Kirito. In all my memory, even then, I could forget everything- thanks to my short term memory problems, but not Kirito's name. I was a slow learner, I could forget even my birthday, but not Kirito's.
Mr Hiomi leaned towards me and with a gentle smile, he said: "Vivian, I'm here from Japan and I-" "Oh! You're Kirito's father?" I was so excited for my own downfall. He was there to meet me-- Not because he liked me or he missed me-- He couldn't care less about that-- It was just that our parents had decided to get us engaged beforehand.
I left everyone for him... But he left me for everyone else. You know, Kirito Hiomi, he has always been this way. Shorter than most men with huge pride. I have to fight every time to catch his attention and every time we touched, never once did it feel right. How many times did I fall for you over and over again? Oh yeah, I didn't count-- I didn't know how to count heartbreaks yet.
So, we got engaged in the end and naturally, as a typical five-year-old, I was happy. I mean we ate cake! That was a big deal for me. But, I wasn't free now- Not anymore. As the days went by, my expectations grew. I thought goodbyes were closed chapters, but for you, they weren't. It felt like I was a page ripped out from one story and forcefully pasted in your book of life.
Mom brought storybooks of princesses and prince, angels, demons, mermaids, fairies, magic and whatnot to make me believe that magic exists. And like Cinderella, one-day Kirito will come to my place and take me away to a huge castle and angels would guide our way forever.
"Do angels exist?" I asked my mother while we were walking in the fields, calling out for the cows to come back home. I was seven then-- naive and foolish. "What do you think?" Mom said as she gigged. "I think they do, that's why they brought me Kirito"
"Then I think they do exist," She said and went ahead whistling for the cows ."Will I ever meet one, mama?" I asked but I guess she didn't hear me. Maybe Kirito was an angel... That's what I thought as I danced through the valleys. A small flower fell on my hair from above. Strange it was because there were no flowers around. I never found out where it came from until I realised what it might be! So I looked up and smiled
"I know that was you"
Oh how good it would have been if we met by chance and not choice
If we would fall in love like all other humans do- Under God's plan and not that of mortalsBut we didn't and you know what-I'm glad we didn't, Ethan
-To be continued
So many years had passed and now that Vivian was finally 25 years old, the preparations for her marriage commenced. Vivian was taught everything so that she would become the perfect wife that Kirito needed.Three days after Vivian turned 25, the Garnettes received a phone call. Kirito was coming to meet her. It was a Friday morning and the preparations to welcome the Hiomi family were in full bloom. Delia, Vivian's younger sibling, was getting dressed up while Mrs Garnette was cleaning up the living room"Where's Vivian?" She asked Delia."Probably still sleeping," Delia replied as she looked into the mirror while combing her hair."What?!" Mrs Garnette kept the mop aside and rushed upstairs to Vivian's room.It was sweltering like every other German morning. Mrs Garnette was covered with dust and perspired as she walked through the small staircase and opened the door to a cramped room. All the clothes were thrown on the floor and the window was bl
Kirito couldn't hate her. She looked good and she dressed up for him. She learned his language-- He couldn't hate her. Vivian refused to believe it."Verarschen!" Vivian faked a laugh.(Tn// Stop joking around)"I'm serious," Kirito said, coldly."I know that we don't know each other that well, but I want to know you and I'm ready to spend my entire life learning about you," Vivian said. She looked at his hand. There wasn't any ring in his fingers."I see," Kirito smiled and got up "Then, see you at the wedding ceremony,"Vivian smiled.Something wasn't right. She didn't want to do this but her heart didn't listen to her mind. Things went fluently the preceding month. Everyone seemed busy with the preparations. There was just so much to do in the wedding! Finally, it was the wedding day.The ceremony was held in Japan.Vivian was dressed up in a beautiful white, wedding dress. She stood beside Kirito, who w
Vivian slowly opened her eyes and looked at the wall before her, reflecting the light of the sun from the window. At first, she was confused, but then she realised she wasn't home anymore. She remembered what had happened the previous. So, she spent half of her life loving someone who hated her?'Had I known about this before then I'd never fall for you. Because I'd rather be heartless than heartbroken. But look what you did.'She didn't want to move from the sofa but she realised that just laying around won't solve any problem. Maybe if she acts nice, Kirito would eventually fall for her like in those romantic movies. She got up and rubbed her eyes. She stretched her arms and yawned.Kirito had left for office already. The entire room was of the size of her house! At least she got money if not a good man! She decided to explore the house and walked out of the room in her pyjamas. So, it wasn't a hotel but actually the Hiomi family'
At one point, Vivian was drunk. Not the regular kind of drunk but rather a completely intoxicated, out of control beauty, overflowing with self- confidence. A woman so enchanting that she could make diamonds go blind! She decided to make this party into a real party. She cosily slipped into her heels and walked towards the musicians. The musicians were shocked on seeing her approach them. She sat beside them and looked into their music sheets as they played. It made them extremely uncomfortable! Naturally, they were not used to guests during their performance. But Vivian waited till they finished their piece since it was considered quite rude in the musical society, to stop someone in between their piece. "Guys, I have a request," She smiled. They never saw what was coming to them or what they had done to deserve that. The poor souls were only doing what they were paid to do. Kirito was talking to a group of old men and his uncle, the organiser
Kirito was going down, into the depth and looking above. He could see a depressing yellow tint in the water, he couldn't hear anything. He opened his mouth as he decided to clench on the ropes of his brain but there was nothing but water. His head was throbbing-- Ready to explode. He could see a faint memory of his childhood present before him. A near-death drowning experience he had managed to escape was coming to haunt him again. But just like that time, he could see a saviour coming towards him.Though it wasn't a blonde head. The next thing he remembered was coughing his lungs beside the little pool of his. Vivian was sitting beside him, dressed in her undergarments. After he felt more comfortable and was back to his senses, he noticed her attire."What are you wearing?" Kirito looked at her."Mom said I can show you my skin since you're my husband." Vivian winked."Aren't you embarrassed at all?""You don't l
Next morning, Kirito and Vivian sat at the dining table. His phone buzzed with Erika's messages.'Kirito, you're late! Why aren't you here yet?!'He looked at his phone and kept it aside while continuing to eat the bowl of noodles. Vivian sat in front of him- gazing at him while he ate and talking to him."Mom wanted me to be your 'perfect' bride. I was taught all household chores, I used to clean our house everyday and cook for everyone-- even from the less or missing ingredients. They didn't want you to complain after we married. But I thought-- you'd love me unconditionally, even if I couldn't do all that. I wouldn't work a day and at that time I thought my mother was stupid. But I am stupid haha. A human should work."He drank the soup and kept the empty bowl aside. He cleaned his mouth with a cloth."I come from a very poor family from a small, remote village in Germany-- so I don't know anything about the way you dress up here
Kirito's phone started ringing and he stretched his arms towards it. Before he could answer the phone, it hung up. It was Vivian's call. He had 15 missed calls by her.He rubbed his eyes and got up from the bed. His head was hurting and he pressed his temples "I think I drank too much at the restaurant. Fuck, I forgot to go home."He turned back and looked at Erika sleeping beside him. Then, he looked at his phone. It was 15 minutes past two in the morning. He got up and started dressing up. He fixed his hair and washed his face. He left Erika's place and ran towards his car. He started the car's engine and drove back home. When he opened the door of the apartment, he noticed that it had not been locked."She hasn't locked the door yet? How irresponsible. Well, as if anyone would come here." He mumbled as he got in and locked the door.He removed his coat while moving into the hall. The lights were still up. He got inside the dining room and
Vivian opened her eyes and looked at her arms. Kirito had grabbed her wrist as he stood behind her. She turned back and looked at him. Her hair was safe. He had stopped her on time. He looked at the scissors and took them away."Cutting them?" He asked. She quickly turned back and wiped her tears. He clicked his tongue in irritation "Why are you crying? You look pathetic when you cry-- just stop."She laughed "I look pathetic either way so it doesn't really make any difference."At this point, she had lost something much more important than her life for him. She didn't sacrifice her hair but her self confidence took the toll."The house is a mess, the dishes aren't done yet. Seriously, do real work. Stop wasting time. Also, I forgot a file. Find it for me" He ordered."I'll get it to your office.""Do you think I'll let you enter there? I don't wanna become a piece of mockery. Just find the file-- Do what you're told" She went into the bedro
"I'm sorry I couldn't save us all" Vivian said with a sad smile as she looked at Ethan. "But I can," Maya said as she walked towards them. Lucus and Fate looked at her. Her hair grew longer and turned golden from brunette. Her eyes turned blue, just like death. Ethan looked at her with surprise. "It's you" He said as he looked at her. "Who is it?" Vivian asked "...The girl that saved me from drowning that day" Ethan said. She pressed her hand on his face "Do you know why you couldn't die after all those efforts?" She asked as she looked into his eyes and his eyes turned light blue too. "I saved you, everytime" She said "I shall do that today too" Her yellow wings opened from her back and her white key appeared on her neck "Who are you?" Vivian asked. "Just like you are Death's blood, Ethan is my blood" She said with a smile as a white book appeared in her hand. "The Bulosum... I knew it" Fate said. "Life..." Lucus said. She tou
As Kurosawa got up, Lucus raised his hand while holding his Antabulam in it. "The reaper's pride- Come forth my scythe!" He said but nothing happened. Fate looked at him with surprise. He looked at his Antabulam."Why isn't it working?" Lucus said and Kurosava started laughing like a madman."Ahahaha!!" He laughed for a minute continuously as everyone stared at him "That's right... I couldn't die. And how could I? Everything I wanted could not be mine and above that-- I even lost what I had! And you know who is responsible for that-- You! Ethan Evaganza! I was always more talented but I was never given what I deserved!People were always unfair with me! Such people who cannot respect art and talent deserve no place in this beautifully rotten world! They must be killed for better people to take their place! You were no better but my own sister betrayed me over you!She broke her promise of giving me the company and threw me and Maria inside that old mansio
"Maria" Kurosawa said as he held his sick wife's hand. Her skin was moist and sticky. "You shouldn't come here often. What if you catch this disease too? You know it's infectious" She said."Nothing will happen to me. I will take you abroad and we will cure you" Kurosawa said as he looked into her eyes."That sounds like it'll take a lot of money. Leave me just like this. You don't have to do anything at all" She said."My sister is rich. And once I inherit the company, it'll be alright. I'll have the money for your treatment" Kurosawa said as he squeezed her hand. She moved it away "Don't touch me, you might get infected" She said. He hugged her "I don't care" He whispered in her ear..."What?" Kurosawa said as he stood in front of Mrs Hiomi, inside her room as the maids dressed Kirito's hair and fixed his clothes."I've decided. Kirito will inherit my company and Aoi will inherit their father's company" Mrs Hiomi said.
"Who is it now?" Vivian said and looked at the clock. It was about to be eight in the evening. Fate looked at the door.Vivian touched the doorknob "Don't open it" Fate said. Vivian turned towards her. She took her Grecabulum and Vivian's Antabulam in her arms. "Fate--" She stood with her back pressed on the front wall. Vivian looked ahead at the doorknob. The doorbell rang again. "What is it?""I don't know. But, I'm scared" Fate said "I don't wanna know what's behind that door" Fate said. He pushed the doorbell for the third time. Vivian grew sweaty as she moved away from the door. Fate pressed her pen between her teeth. Finally, he began hitting the door "I know you're in there, Vivian" He said with a smile. Vivian recognised his voice "Why are you here?" She asked as she moved further behind."I'm here with a gift, Vivian. Open the door""I don't want it. Go away""Don't say that, Vivian. I'm here to apolog
Maya mixed something in the beer bottles and kept them inside the fridge. She left for work after that. After some time, Ethan got up and looked around "Oh... I slept..." He looked at the time. It was evening. He moved towards the fridge and opened it "Beer? I thought she threw it. Well..." He took a can and drank some of it.He immediately threw up "Gross!" He said. He threw it in the dustbin and tried another can. Then another, then another. He finally gave up and slept back....Vivian kept the piece of paper inside an envelope and pressed the stamp on it. Sejok pressed the horn "Hurry up, Vivian!" He said. She took a deep breath and kissed the envelope. She posted it on her way to the party. They got down on the red carpet. Every celebrity was there. The paparazzis surrounded her and camera flashes followed up. Other celebrities began whispering among themselves.Maya looked over from the crowd and saw Vivian surrounded b
Ethan was forced to shave for his makeup to go smoothly. Maya touched his wet face right after he shaved. "Hmm... Good skin, prez!" She said."Now, close your eyes" He looked reluctant but she was stubborn and irritating so he just did what she told him.She sprayed a hydrating spray on his face and hence commenced the make up! "I'm shocked you didn't say something like "Guys don't put makeup"" She said in a grumpy voice while applying the base of the makeup."I've seen male models too," He said."...Male models wearing lingerie--""I've been invited to certain business firms and fashion shows so no. Thankfully I haven't seen that yet and I hope I never do" Ethan said."Okay done! Next- Highlighter!" She said as she searched her purse. She applied the blush on his cheeks and then applied the highlighter. She did the contour and an eyeshadow."Now~ I'll just put on a lip balm. Sunny Peach is like my favourite shade" She said as she app
Vivian and Fate stood face to face. Vivian couldn't understand what fate was trying to tell her and Fate understood that."There are three divine angels- Life, Fate and Death. Rest all are made by them. All other angels were mortals before except the three divine angels. They are angels by birth. We are strictly prohibited from interacting with mortals. We can talk to their souls, but not in their consciousness. About a few hundred years ago, Death broke that rule. He killed a human girl before her time because he fell for her. He learned then that he could keep the soul away from the stairs if he tore away the page of the Antabulam. So, he did that. She would go around with him everywhere. Just like you followed him everywhere after you died, she was just like that. She didn't like the name "Death", so she named him "Jericho". They both loved each other dearly and soon she got pregnant. The child wasn't an angel, it was a mortal girl who had Death's blood in he
Maya picked Ethan up on her back and walked towards his apartment. "You aren't heavy at all for a man, prez! Tell me your secret diet!" She stood in front of the apartment's door. "Is this it? 6556?" She asked as she looked at the door. He nodded. "What's the password?""The same number," He said. He seemed completely wasted."Dumb" She opened the door and walked inside "Wow!" She said as she looked at the mess "My house is the same after any breakup or after some makeup disaster!" She moved towards the bedroom and lay him on the bed.She removed his wet shirt and threw it aside. He slept instantly. "It's so hot and suffocating here!" She opened the balcony door. "Much better" She removed her wet one piece and wore one of Ethan's shirts from his wardrobe. She looked at the lower section of the cupboard and found a woman's clothes."Prez! You're living with a girl!?" She exclaimed "And still your house is so dirty! You both must be lazy or she must be a di
Fate walked towards Lucus with her Grecabulum in her hands as he stood on a road in Romania, looking at a dying cat "She has forgotten that she is an angel" Lucus looked at Vivian's Antabulam."In that matter, she's just like you," Fate said. Lucus looked at her as she sat beside him."I thought of them today, it pissed me off," Fate said "We are mere spectators. You shouldn't interfere anymore, Death""Can't we prevent this?" He asked."That's for her to decide. Shall mortals decide which blue gate they'll take? Either that blue will calm them like the ocean or drown them like their fate""Ocean... No matter harmless or calm it seems, it can kill somebody" Lucus said "It hurts like hell to see her hurt""Well, she is like a rolling stone mediating between her two lives. But, a rolling stone gathers no moss,""Yes. But it certainly gains a certain polish,""I don't know what to say..." She looked at the cat."Everything
