Diana! What on earth is she doing here?

A young woman with hair as dark as midnight done up in a bun walks in. She had an emotionless expression, a rigid jawline and a piercing gaze that made her appear quite unapproachable. She seemed to exude a sense of sternness that made me feel uneasy. She looked very self-possessed but despite her seemingly emotionless appearance, I had a feeling that she would be someone I could talk to.

She must be one of the new maids Giovanni was talking about, she was rather peculiar.

"I'm Darva Aronov. It's a pleasure meeting you mistress." She says bowing slightly. I observed her impeccable appearance, noting how every detail, from her meticulously ironed clothes to her perfectly groomed hair and nails, exuded an air of precision and sophistication.

It was clear to me that she was someone who was strong-willed and not easily intimidated. She had a presence that commanded respect and radiated resilience.

"Nice to meet you too." I say to her. She looked t

"Nam-son?!" I say in astonishment. Diana's eyes widened with fear as her hands wrung together anxiously. "But...what about Giovanni?" She had mentioned earlier that Talia wanted to kill him. She moved closer, gripping my hand tightly as if her life depended on it. "My cousin doesn't want to interfere with anything. He doesn't trust me." Her gaze dropped to the floor for a moment before locking with mine again, desperation etched on her features. "But I know you would...please."I was at a loss for words, taken aback by the fragile vulnerability she was displaying - a side of Diana I had never witnessed before. "What makes you think I can help you? What exactly is going on with Nam-son?" I'm unsure of whether to trust what she is saying. "I don't know for certain," she admitted, her voice trembling slightly, "but I think he's been taken..." She paused, taking a deep, steadying breath. "A few days ago, I received a message that Nam-son had been taken b-" She stopped abruptly as if t

"My apologies, Master, but you have a phone call," Darva announced, appearing almost out of thin air. "It seems very urgent."A flush of embarrassment crept up my cheeks as I instinctively tried to use Giovanni's broad frame to shield myself from Darva's view. Giovanni sighs deeply, pressing one more tender kiss to my forehead before reluctantly extracting himself from my embrace. "I'll see you later love" he murmurs ruefully. As he hauled himself out of the pool, rivulets of water streamed down his chiseled physique. I couldn't help but stare, transfixed for a moment by the tantalizing display. Giovanni shot me a roguish wink over his shoulder before turning to Darva."This had better be important," he stated firmly, wrapping a plush robe around himself. Darva simply inclined her head in response. "Of course, Master. Right this way."Giovanni paused at the door, turning back to me with those warm eyes that could so easily melt my doubts. • My Fortune Is Mine!   44. Gabriel? Not the angel of course.

Dressed in the finest silk that money could acquire, I felt like a vision of pure indulgence. I was clad in a long spaghetti strap dinner gown with a slit, that embraced every curve of my body, stiletto heels graced my legs, and I wore a gold arm bracelet. I wanted to wear my mother's necklace but decided against it and put it back in the drawer, instead, I went with a simple gold necklace with diamonds encrusted on them. My lips were painted a deep, enticing red, and my usually tamed brown hair hung in silky waves cascading over my shoulders. Darva had helped me with my clothes and makeup, although she was strange, it was obvious she had impeccable taste. With the way, her hands moved as she did my makeup, full concentration. It was obvious she was skilled in the craft. I don't know Darva very well but there was something about her, a quality, about her. A kind of precision with her movements and whatever she was doing. Almost like she was trained or something. I laugh to myself, w

  • My Fortune Is Mine!   45. All that glitters is not gold.

An aura of quiet power and self-assuredness seemed to radiate off Gabriel as he bends and kisses my hand tenderly. "The pleasure is all mine, Emily Rivera". His features were strikingly handsome - chiseled cheekbones, a strong jawline, full lips perpetually curved into a borderline smirk. But it was his eyes, dark as midnight, that were the most arresting. Hooded and glittering with a cunning intelligence. Not a single strand of his hair appeared out of place atop his head.He was impeccably dressed in a beautiful suit. The suit strained slightly across his broad shoulders and chest, hinting at the powerful physique lurking beneath the razor-sharp lines of the tailoring. A silver hoop earring graced his left earlobe. When he angled his body a certain way, I caught a glimpse of what appeared to be a small tattoo of a coiled snake on his chest, just peeking out from the crisp vee of his dress shirt collar. "It's so good to see my baby cousin again, although the last time we met, th

"I must say you're looking extremely fabulous tonight," He gives me a once over. I managed a polite courtesy. "Good evening Mr. D'Errico. It's good to see you again"He nods, that wolfish gaze sliding over to settle on Giovanni with a hint of sly amusement playing about his lips. "I'm glad you finally agreed to bring her along. What's a family gathering without her, hmm" He says. A tremor of unease went through me at his words. But I schooled my features into a neutral smile as Russo continued speaking."Julia, unfortunately, is unable to come, she sends her regrets for this evening," he stated, almost as an afterthought.Thank heavens for that! I grimace at the remembrance of the words she said to me the first time we met. That's one less pair of scornful eyes to endure. "A pity. My warmest greetings to her," I replied smoothly, unconsciously straightening my posture under the subtle weight of Russo's sharp gaze."I see you've met Gabriel, you two looked like you were about to st

I watch as Diana shifts uncomfortably. "It was…a random attack. A random person." but her tone lacked conviction.I scoffed. "You're lying again, aren't you?", Frustration welled up inside me.Before Diana could respond, I whirled around, heading for the door. "You know what? I don't care anymore. I'm done with this charade."Suddenly, Diana's hand clamped on my arm, stopping me. Her grip was surprisingly strong. "Emily, wait! You have to listen to me." Her voice took on an urgent tone. "You can't trust anyone here. This whole gala is a trap. You need to get out, now!"I jerked my arm free, glaring at her. "And why should I believe a word you say?""Because I'm trying to protect you!" Diana hissed. "They're watching you, Emily. If you don't leave-"An earsplitting bang on the door made all of us freeze. The sound reverberated through the room, laden with menace. Diana's eyes went wide with fear, and Nam-son instinctively stepped in front of her in a protective stance. The atmosphere w

My breath caught in my throat as I took in Talia's regal bearing, the confident tilt of her chin as she surveyed the crowd like a queen holding court. She looked dressed to kill, an image of the red queen herself. Her crimson gown seemed to smolder, her hair done up. She was clad in a regal hanbok, made of shiny red silk fabric that seemed to glow. The golden thread was sewn along the edges in pretty flower designs. A yellow outer robe went over the red dress, making her look very regal and important. The dress had a long skirt that flowed gracefully around her feet as she walked. Her makeup looked perfect. She had shimmery gold eyeshadow on her eyelids that made her eyes sparkle. Her eyebrows were nicely shaped, cheeks looked sculpted with blush and bronzer. But her lips were the most striking part. They were painted a deep, bright red color, like shiny red apples. Her hair was stylishly upswept and decorated with fancy jade and pearl ornaments and clips. A hush fell over the b

"This is the consequences of disobedience". I watched with a sinking feeling as the air in the room grew thick with palpable tension as Giovanni and Russo locked eyes, their silent stares brimming with pent-up hostility. An unsettling hush blanketed the space, the calm before an impending storm. I watch GIovanni's expression, it was expertly concelaed as always but the tight clench of his jaw, and the clench of his hands into white-knuckled fists at his sides, tendons straining against his skin as if he was physically restraining himself from lashing out betrayed his composure and the simmering rage bubbling just beneath the surface. Across from him, Russo appeared an eerie study in composure, Talia stood beside him, staring at us, not once did she blink. It seemed like nobody was bothered by what just happened, I looked around again and noticed how they all look inconspicuously at Russo and Giovanni. I on the other hand was this close to letting out a blood curdling scream and gett

I stood in the abandoned warehouse, my heart pounding. The plan was simple: I'd act as bait to lure Primo here. Then, our team would capture him. But something felt off. "Are you ready, Emily?" Giovanni asked, squeezing my hand. I nodded, trying to look braver than I felt. "As ready as I'll ever be." As Giovanni and the others hid, I heard a car approach. This was it. Primo entered, his cold eyes scanning the room before landing on me. "Well, well," he smirked. "Little Emily, all alone." I took a deep breath. "I want to make a deal, Primo. The gem for my family's safety." He laughed, a chilling sound that made my skin crawl. "Oh, Emily. You're in no position to make deals." Suddenly, smoke filled the room. I heard shouts and gunfire. This wasn't part of the plan! Through the chaos, I felt someone grab me from behind. "Sorry, cousin," a woman's voice whispered in my ear. "But I need you more than they do." As the smoke cleared, I found myself face to face with a woman

Suddenly, a very loud explosion shook the car and it wobbled violently, tires screeching against the ground. Before I could process what was happening, the door beside me was violently opened, and a familiar face appeared."Hadid!" I gasped in disbelief."Come on, Emily! We need to move!" she shouted, grabbing my arm and pulling me from the car. This would be the second time Hadid would hijack me from a situation it seemed.Gunfire erupted around us as we ran towards a waiting motorcycle. I glanced back to see Primo and his men stumbling from the damaged vehicle, their faces contorted with rage.Hadid revved the engine as I clung to her waist. We sped off into the night, leaving the chaos behind us."Where are we going?" I yelled over the wind."Somewhere safe," Hadid replied. "Hold on tight!"We maneuvered through traffic at an alarming speed, my heart pounding in my chest. After what felt like hours, we finally slowed, pulling into a dark, quiet alleyway.Hadid killed the engine and

As the guards began to drag me away, a desperate idea struck me. "Wait!" I shouted, my voice cracking with fear. "I... I know something about the gem!"The guards paused, and I felt all eyes in the room turn to me. Primo raised an eyebrow, a flicker of interest crossing his otherwise emotionless face."Bring her back," he ordered.I was roughly shoved back into the chair, my heart pounding so hard I thought it might burst from my chest. I had no idea what I was going to say, but I knew I had to buy time."Well?" Primo leaned forward, his eyes boring into mine. "What do you know?"I took a deep breath, my mind racing. "The... the gem. Giovanni told me it was hidden in a place where the sun meets the sea."Primo's eyes narrowed. "Go on.""He said it was in a lighthouse," I continued, the lie growing as I spoke. "On the coast of Maine. A red and white striped lighthouse, with a secret compartment in the lantern room."For a moment, there was silence in the room. Then Primo turned to one

Desperation and fear clawed at my throat as I looked around the room. These men, with their cold eyes and cruel smiles, terrified me. But I had to know."Please," I begged, my voice trembling, "what do you know about my mother? Where is she?"Their laughter hit me like a physical blow. It was cruel, mocking, and devoid of any real humor. Before I could say anything else, the door burst open. A group of armed men stormed in, their weapons at the ready. Two of them grabbed me, their grip painfully tight on my arms. I struggled against them, but it was useless. The blonde man, who had been watching me with those emotionless eyes, finally spoke. His voice was calm, almost conversational, which somehow made it even more chilling."Allow me to introduce myself," he said. "I am Primo Belluci."He paused, as if expecting a reaction. But the name meant nothing to me. I just stared at him, confused and scared.Primo scoffed, shaking his head. "My, my. You really are an ignorant little thing, ar

The person stepped closer, a strange smile playing on their lips. "Hello, Emily."As my eyes adjusted to the dim light, I felt my heart drop. It was Salvatore, Giovanni's half-brother. My mind reeled, trying to make sense of his presence here."Salvatore?" I croaked, my throat dry from fear and dehydration. "What's going on? Why are you here?"His smile widened, but it didn't reach his eyes. "Oh, Emily. You played right into our trap. It was almost too easy."I shook my head, confusion mingling with terror. "Trap? What are you talking about? Where's Hadid?"Salvatore laughed, a cold, mirthless sound that sent chills down my spine. "Hadid? She was just a pawn, my dear. A means to an end. And that end was bringing you here.""What?" I gasped, struggling against my bonds. "No, that can't be true. Hadid wouldn't... Where is she? What have you done with her?"His face hardened, all traces of amusement gone. "Shut up," he snapped, "or you'll regret it."Before I could say another word, he p

Straining my ears, I caught muffled voices from downstairs.I moved stealthily towards the door, my feet silent on the cold floor. As I reached for the handle, a thought struck me - what if it was Hadid, finally returned? But when I tried to open the door, I found it locked. Panic began to rise in my chest. Why would they lock me in?"Hello?" I called out, my voice trembling slightly. "Is anyone there? Is Hadid back?” After a moment, I heard footsteps approaching. The lock clicked, and the door swung open. But instead of the friendly faces of Sarah and Maria, I was met with the barrels of two handguns pointed directly at me.I stumbled back, my mouth dry with fear. "W-what's going on?"Sarah's usually kind face was now hard and cold. "Get back inside, Emily. Now.""But... I don't understand," I stammered. "Where's Hadid? What's happening?"Maria

"What?! Is he alright? Please tell me he's alright. Where is he now? Who shot at him?" The questions poured out in a rush."I don't know all the details," Hadid said, tiredly. "I think it happened at the Oasis. He was also there at the brothel, Marcus must have led all of them there."I threw off the covers and got down from the bed "We have to go see him. Now. Where is he?"Hadid placed a gentle hand on my arm. "Emily, I don't think that's a good idea. It's not safe out there. You should try to get some more sleep."I shook my head roughly "No, you don't understand. I can't wait. I need to see my husband.”Her eyes widened in surprise."Please," I begged, ignoring her surprise.Hadid sighed, running a hand through her hair. "Emily, I'm sorry, but I don't think he's back at the hotel. I'm not even sure where he is."My heart sank. "Then where is he? We have to do something!""I know, and we will," Hadid assured me. I think I know a way to find your mother."My eyebrows shot up. "Really? How?""She sent me a message last month, just before she disappeared again," Hadid explained.
