I could hear the sincerity in Jake's voice as he spoke, and I knew he was telling the truth. This wasn't a joke, he had meant every word. I was taken aback, my mind reeling. I had never expected him to say something like that, to be so honest and open.

It was like he had read my mind like he knew exactly what I was thinking. And that scared me because it meant that he knew just how vulnerable I was. It meant that he still had the power to hurt me, in a way that no one else could.

He gave me a weak smile and turned to leave. I was about to call out to him, to stop him from going. But I wasn't certain if I had fully forgiven him or if I was ready to be friends again.

So I just stood there, watching him walk away. My expression was unreadable, even to me. I was a mess of conflicting emotions, and I had no idea what to do next. All I knew was that my life had just gotten a lot more complicated.
