Chapter 3

Two months went by in a flash after the wedding of the century.

A lot of things happened in those two months and everyone’s life was affected significantly.

First, after the wedding reception, Daniel did not know what came over him but he actually kept on thinking about the kiss that they had at the altar. He had planned on brushing his teeth thoroughly after the wedding but instead, he kept on fantasizing about this kiss.

Sometimes, he could subconsciously touch his lips and he had this crazy feeling that they were still very hot.

That was not all, since it was their wedding night, he had actually gone to that woman’s room and made love to her throughout the night, emptying himself inside her over and over again.

He could not believe that the woman he resented and disdained would even make him erect. But it had happened and he had even slept with her, moreover, his body has never been excited like it was, that night. It was as if he was making love to the most important woman in his life.

For the past two months, the only scene that kept on replaying in his mind was of that night. Even when he bedded Kate, he was not as excited as he thought he would be, after all, Kate was the love of his life, and being with her was everything he has ever dreamed about…

Ella was still in shock even after two months have passed. Her heart was still pounding from what happened on their supposed wedding night. Although the man has never visited her again, she was still in shock just thinking about what came into him, for him to do what he did.

But although it happened and she hoped that things would change between them, she knew that it was impossible. The man rarely came home and whenever he did, he would not even stay for the night.

Even with the humiliation that he made her go through, and even after knowing that he had another woman who was already pregnant for him, there was that tiniest bit of hope in her heart that the man would come around and they will live their life happily ever after.

That was how much she loved him. She was willing to forgive him for everything as long as he was willing to acknowledge her and love her back just as much as she loved him.

But as the days went by, the hope in her heart kept on becoming thin until there was none left.

Today was the day that the Old Master Edmond was supposed to hand everything to Daniel. He was finally going to inherit everything and live the life he has always hoped for.

Ella was woken up by the commotion downstairs. When she saw that the man had returned, her heart skipped a beat as she thought that he was there for her.

Daniel looked at the woman who had just woken up and he was slightly startled. He had not seen her for a few months, and why did he feel the urge to kiss her the moment he laid his eyes on her?

Her disheveled look and her slightly opened eyes were too sexy. She was exuding a seductive aura and it was difficult for Daniel to look away.

‘Stop it, Daniel, you hate her and you cannot wait for her to get out of your life. What do you think you are doing by staring at her? You might give the poor woman the wrong impression.’ A voice in his mind screamed at him, and it brought him back from his stupor.

“Why are you still not dressed? don’t you know that the succession ceremony is today?” Daniel asked in a displeased tone. He did not even offer his greetings as if they have been spending the last few days together.

Ella became clear-headed when she heard the man and her eyes that had lit up upon seeing the man dimmed. The longing fire that had been ignited in her heart was extinguished in a split second.

She had not seen the man for such a long time that she must have become delusional. She was sure that for the time he had not seen her, there was not a single moment that she crossed his mind.

Ella felt her mood fall to the pits of her stomach. Although she had been steeling her heart for the past two months, telling herself that all this will come to an end the moment Old Edmond hands over the company…

…when the day finally came, she realized that she was not actually ready to face reality. All her life, she had only known Daniel and Edmond. She knew that after this ceremony, she would no longer be married to this man and she did not know how her life would be.

“Are you done gawking?” the man’s cold voice brought her back to her senses.

“I will be ready in a minute, please wait.” As Ella said so, she rushed to the bathroom to take a shower and dress up.

After five minutes, Daniel started to impatiently look at his watch. He hated the fact that this woman had the guts to actually tell him to wait. If not for the fact that he wanted to paint the perfect image for his grandfather, he would not have wasted his time to come and fetch this stupid woman.

In his waiting, his phone rang. He took it out and when he saw the caller ID, his features significantly softened. His eyes were filled with warmth. It was the complete opposite of the cold gaze he had used when looking at Ella earlier.

“Hey darling, where are you?” A woman’s sweet voice was heard over the phone.

“I went to my home to get something,” Daniel replied in a gentle tone.

“Have you gone to see that woman? What did you promise me?” Kate asked in a displeased voice.

“I am not here to see her. I am just here to take her to the succession ceremony. You know that she is the key to me getting everything. I have to act and show Grandfather that we are in perfect harmony, or else, I won’t be able to give you the life that you desire.”

When Kate heard that, her heart softened. She knew that Ella was still married to her Danny because of the inheritance. Once everything was transferred to him, she will be tossed away like a rotten cabbage, and no one will ever give her a second look.

She, on the other hand, will get married to Daniel and live the life of her dreams.

“Babe, don’t forget what you promised me.”

“How can I forget, my love? After today, you will become Misses Edmond and you will do whatever you want.”

“Okay, babe. Take care. Don’t stay too close to that bitch lest she seduces you.”

“Don’t worry, I am only putting up a pretense for the old man. Once this is over, I will not need to pretend anymore, and I will even introduce you to him, as the love of my life and the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with.”

Ella stood on the stairs as she listened to her husband talk to his mistress.

No, he was not even her husband. They were pretending to be married for the sake of the inheritance.

Ella sucked in a cold breath. She did not want to appear weak or bothered in front of this man. She just wanted to get this done before she does something that she will regret.

“I am done. We can leave.” She said as she descended the stairs gracefully.

Daniel looked at her and a strange light flashed through his eyes.
