Sophia’s POV

A month had passed since I was appointed head of design, and I’d been thriving in the role. Reporting directly to Elijah was initially awkward, but we managed to keep things professional. Our relationship had evolved into a light, friendly dynamic that I found surprisingly refreshing.

But today, I was at Raven Media, visiting my best friend Kayla, whose family owned the company.

“Can you believe it, Soph? We're finally here!” Kayla's eyes sparkled with enthusiasm as she led me into her bright, stylish office. “It’s my very own office within the company!”

“It’s amazing, Kayla,” I replied, taking in the sleek furniture and the vibrant artwork on the walls. “I’m so proud of you.”

She grinned, twirling a lock of her dark hair. “Thanks. And guess what? I have a proposition for you.”

“Oh?” I raised an eyebrow, curious.

Kayla leaned forward, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. “Since you’re already done designing all those major projects for Sinclair Realty, I want

Sophia’s POVI held Reese’s hand as we both walked eagerly into the hotel's lounge. The place was buzzing with anticipation, the warm lighting throwing a golden glow over the sleek, modern décor.I spotted Kayla near the front, her eyes sparkling with excitement as she waved us over.“Sophia! Reese!” Kayla greeted us, her enthusiasm infectious. “You made it just in time. Adrian's about to go on.”We settled into our seats, and I tried to calm the fluttering in my stomach. Adrian and I had grown close since that time when he’d asked me to help him out at the grocery. I knew this night was significant for him. He had poured his heart and soul into his new single, and I was here to support him.The lights dimmed, and the room fell silent as Adrian stepped onto the small stage, guitar slung over his shoulder. He looked confident, yet there was a softness in his eyes when he glanced our way. “There he is!” Reese exclaimed beside me. I smiled at my daughter. She was a music lover, even at

Sophia’s POVInside the apartment, I helped Reese out of her coat and asked, “Did you like Uncle Adrian and his song today?”Reese nodded enthusiastically, her eyes bright. “Yes, good song! I like him. But I like Daddy so much more!”I laughed, tucking her into bed. “Of course you do, sweetheart.”As I smoothed her hair and pulled the covers up, Reese's expression turned thoughtful. “Mommy, when is Daddy visiting?”“Tomorrow, sweetie,” I assured her, kissing her forehead.Reese's face lit up with a sleepy smile. “Yay. I love Daddy.”“I know you do. Now, get some rest,” I said, watching as she drifted off to sleep, her small hand clutching her favorite stuffed animal. As I left Reese’s room and walked over to my own, I thought about Adrian’s song and what it truly meant. Why do I inspire him? Why did he write this song for me? What am I to him?My head kept spinning with these questions, keeping me from falling asleep at once. Adrian always makes me smile. He’s fun to be with. It seems

Elijah’s POVThe party was in full swing now. I stood at the edge of the crowd, a smile tugging at the corners of my lips as I watched Sophia, radiant and beaming, surrounded by colleagues and well-wishers. The celebration party I had organized was a success, and seeing Sophia so happy made it all worthwhile.“Congratulations, Sophia! Your designs are truly exceptional,” one of the senior architects said, shaking her hand warmly.“Thank you, Mr. Thompson. It means a lot coming from you,” Sophia replied, her eyes sparkling with gratitude.Another designer, Lily, stepped forward. “Sophia, we're all so impressed with your work. The new concepts you introduced have taken our projects to a whole new level.”Sophia blushed slightly. “I couldn't have done it without the team's support.”“We're glad you're leading the design department of Sinclair Realty,” said Mark, a junior designer. “You've brought a fresh perspective and so much energy.”As I listened to the chorus of praise, pride swelled

Sophia’s POVMy breath hitched when I heard the dare they gave Elijah, and I felt a cold wave wash over me. Is he going to do it?Elijah and Julia exchanged a look, a flicker of something unspoken passing between them. I could feel my heart tightening in my chest, my mind racing with questions I had no answers to. Why was this affecting me so much?Elijah broke the tense silence with a chuckle. “Oh, come on, Jenna. Julia’s like a sister to me.”I felt the color returning to my cheeks, and my breath seemed to return to normal. Julia's expression wavered. For a split second, I saw the hurt in her eyes before she plastered on a smile and nodded in agreement. “Yeah, totally. Like a sister… And Elijah’s always been like a brother to me because we grew up together.”Jenna’s playful frown didn’t hide her disappointment, but she quickly recovered. “Fine, fine. But...” She was cut off by Mark, one of our more inebriated colleagues.“Maybe our boss likes someone else, huh?” Mark slurred, nudgi

Sophia’s POV“Grandma Evelyn!” I called out, my heart pounding with relief and concern. I rushed over to her, kneeling beside the bench. “We’ve been worried sick about you. Are you okay?”Evelyn turned to me with a gentle smile, her eyes twinkling with recognition, but she said, “Oh, Sabrina, it's so nice to see you, dear.”I felt a jolt of confusion. “Grandma Evelyn, it's me, Sophia. Remember? I'm designing your new home.”She continued to smile, her gaze drifting past me. “Sabrina used to love the slide here. We would come almost every weekend. Such a sweet girl.”I hesitated, unsure of how to respond. “I'm Sophia,” I repeated gently. “We met recently, remember?”Evelyn’s eyes filled with tears. “Sabrina was always so full of joy. I miss her terribly.”I reached out and took her hand, my voice softening. "Let's go home, Grandma Evelyn. Everyone is worried about you."Her grip on my hand tightened as she looked directly at me, her tears spilling over. “Let's go home, Sabrina.”For a m

Serena’s POVI sat on the hard, cold bench in my cell, my mind swirling with thoughts of regret and self-loathing. How did I end up here? I never wanted any of this to happen. I should have told Elijah everything from the start, but fear had paralyzed me.“I shouldn't be here,” I muttered to myself, gripping the edge of the bench tightly. “I'm not the one who planned this.”But here I was, locked up and alone, my only company the echoes of my own thoughts bouncing off the walls. I knew Elijah blamed me for what had happened to Sophia and Reese. He refused to even look at me, let alone speak to me. And I couldn't blame him. I had failed him so badly. “Why didn't I tell him everything?” I whispered, tears stinging my eyes. “Why did I let fear control me?”The answer was simple. The mastermind behind it all had threatened Elijah's life if I said anything. I couldn't risk that, no matter how much I wanted to. The thought of Elijah getting hurt because of me was unbearable.“I love you, E

Julia’s POVI sat in the passenger seat of Elijah's car, staring out the window and thinking about how Grandma Evelyn had treated me. That old woman doesn’t know what she’s saying! It made me feel so frustrated that Evelyn never really accepted me as her granddaughter Sabrina. But having her insist that Sophia was the real Sabrina was truly pissing me off. “I don't want to go home,” I muttered, breaking the silence. “I'll just feel even sadder and lonelier.”Elijah glanced at me, concern etched on his face. “But Julia, where will you go? Would you rather return to the party? Perhaps some of your friends are still there.”“No,” I said, frowning. “I’m not in the mood anymore.” Then slowly, I reached out to touch his hand gently. “I’d rather spend the evening at your house, Elijah. Just like old times.” I was well aware that growing up, Sabrina used to spend a lot of time at his house. I wanted to prove to him that I could really be Sabrina, his long-lost love and best friend. I just can't bear the thought of you leaving,” she said, her eyes misty. “You’ve been gone for a long time and now that you’re back…” She trailed off, and I bit my lower lip. Gosh, I can’t leave like this. Glancing at Grandpa George, he simply shrugged helplessly. “It's okay, Evelyn,” I reassured her, placing a comforting hand on her arm. “Maybe I'll stay for the night. Anyway, Reese is already asleep now.”Evelyn sniffled, smiling. “You're such a good girl, Sabrina. I don't know what we'd do without you.”I squeezed her hand gently. “I'm Sophia. Remember?”She blinked, confusion clouding her eyes for a moment before she nodded. “Yes, of course, Sophia. You're my Sophia. Elijah’s POVThe next morning felt heavy, as if the house itself was carrying the weight of the night before. The quiet was oppressive, broken only by the occasional creak of the floorboards or the distant hum of a car passing by.I sat at the dining table, staring into my coffee. The steam curled lazily upward, but the rich aroma did nothing to soothe my nerves. My phone lay face up beside the mug, its screen dark but ever-present, a reminder of the silence on the other end.I’d stayed at my stepmother’s house for the night, unable to leave her in the state she was in. Sophia had wanted to stay too since Phoebe was with our kids anyway, but I’d insisted she go home to the kids. “I’ll be fine,” I’d told her, even though fine was the last thing I felt. Now, as I sipped my coffee, I kept glancing at my phone, willing it to buzz or ring—anything to break the unbearable silence. My thoughts were consumed with Joe and Lennon. The sound of footsteps pulled me from my thoughts. I looked up

Elijah’s POVThe house felt like it was holding its breath. Morgana’s sobs broke the silence occasionally, raw and gut-wrenching, as Lila and Adrian hovered near her, offering words of comfort that felt paper-thin in the face of her grief. Morgana sat slumped on the couch, her face buried in her hands, while Lila rubbed soothing circles on her back and Adrian paced, his expression dark with worry. In the corner of the room, Kayla and Sophia sat close together, their heads bowed in hushed conversation. Whatever they were saying, it seemed to offer Sophia a sliver of solace, though her eyes darted toward me every now and then, filled with the same lingering apprehension I felt. She looked pale, her shoulders drawn tight as if she were holding herself together by sheer willpower. An hour had crawled by since the explosion. An hour of unanswered questions and unanswered calls. Connor and I had tried every line, every contact, but no one from Joe’s side had picked up. Each failed attempt f

Sophia’s POVThe air thrummed with a tension so thick it felt alive, no matter how hard we all tried to mask it. Morgana’s living room was warm and inviting, as always, but even the crackling fireplace couldn’t chase away the chill of unease that had settled over us. I sat on the edge of the plush sofa, my hands gripping a mug of tea that had long since gone cold.Across from me, Elijah leaned forward in his chair, elbows on his knees, his gaze fixed on the carpet as though it held the answers we were all waiting for. Lila and Adrian were perched on the loveseat, talking in low voices, though their words seemed more like an effort to fill the silence than an actual conversation. Connor stood by the window, staring out into the sprawling garden, while Kayla hovered near the kitchen, pretending to busy herself with the cheese platter she'd brought.Morgana herself sat quietly. As always, her eyes were red and puffy, her face haggard, and she had grown noticeably thinner.I took a deep b

Elijah’s POVIt was one of those days when the weight of the world seemed to rest on my shoulders. My office at Sinclair Realty was awash with sunlight streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows, but the brightness did little to alleviate the turmoil brewing in my thoughts. Connor, my ever-efficient assistant, sat across from me, tablet in hand, as we combed through the final details of the new condo project. "The eco-friendly features are going to be the highlight," Connor was saying. "Solar panels, water recycling—it's all here. If we market it right, we'll tap into that green investor demographic."Just as Connor began discussing potential investors, my phone buzzed on the desk. Joe’s name lit up the screen. Joe rarely called—and never during office hours unless it was urgent."Give me a minute," I told Connor, picking up the phone. "Joe, what is it?""Elijah, turn on the news. Now."There was an urgency in his voice that made my stomach tighten. "What’s going on?""Just do it

Sophia’s POVI leaned over my desk, the soft glow of the desk lamp spilling over my sketches. The lines were clean, precise, but my mind wasn’t. I’d been at this all day, refining designs for Lucas’s ski resort renovations. Thankfully, it had been days since I’d last heard from him. That alone brought a sense of relief. I wasn’t sure if it was because of our last encounter or he’s just been busy. As I worked on shading the next section of my blueprint, my phone buzzed against the desk. I glanced at it, surprised to see Elijah’s name flashing on the screen. A small smile tugged at my lips as I answered.“Hi,” I said, cradling the phone between my ear and shoulder as I continued sketching.“Hey,” Elijah’s warm voice greeted me. “I just wanted to ask… what time are you coming home?”I paused, setting my pencil down. “In a bit. Just wrapping up a few things.”“Good,” he said, a faint smile audible in his tone. “I miss you.”The words caught me off guard. A rush of warmth spread through m

Elijah’s POVThe morning sunlight filtered through the tall windows of my office, but it did little to lift the cloud hanging over me. I leaned back in my chair, staring at the reports spread across my desk, though my mind wasn’t focused on them. Victoria’s sudden disappearance had thrown me off balance.A part of me wanted to breathe a sigh of relief. If she was gone, it meant she couldn’t interfere with my family anymore—or so I hoped. I don’t know her too well. But I know Julia, and won’t just give up. If using Victoria didn’t work, she’ll find another way soon. The phone on my desk buzzed, snapping me out of my thoughts. My assistant’s voice came through the intercom. “Mr. Sinclair, Joe is here to see you.”“Send him in,” I said, sitting up straighter.Moments later, Joe stepped into the room, carrying a folder and his usual air of quiet efficiency. He placed the folder on my desk and sat across from me, his expression grim.“I’ve got updates,” he began, pulling a few papers fro

Sophia’s POVWe always tried to set aside our concerns whenever we got together for meals at home with the kids. Tonight’s dinner turned out to be lively, especially because we’d invited Phoebe to join. Jared was animated, recounting his favorite parts of the school performance to Phoebe, who listened with rapt attention. It was sweet to see the bond forming between them—Jared had taken to her so naturally, as though some invisible thread tied them together.“I’m sorry I couldn’t make it to the show,” Phoebe said, her tone genuinely regretful. She reached over to ruffle Jared’s hair. “Work’s been hectic, and I just couldn’t leave my new job.”Jared shrugged, smiling at her. “It’s okay, Aunt Phoebe. There’ll be more performances. You can come next time.”“I wouldn’t miss it for the world,” Phoebe promised, her eyes softening.Roxy, who had been unusually quiet throughout dinner, suddenly spoke up. “Royce wasn’t in school today.”I paused mid-bite, glancing at Elijah. Elijah’s POVDespite Morgana’s absence, Bella Sera was bustling with activity when I arrived. The place seemed to be running like a well-oiled machine. Clara, Morgana’s assistant, was standing by the counter, speaking animatedly with one of the chefs.I made my way to her, and she noticed me immediately. “Elijah,” she said with a smile. “Good to see you. Morgana mentioned you might stop by.”“How’s everything going?” I asked, leaning against the counter.Clara handed me a clipboard with the latest reports. “Sales have been steady. We’ve introduced a few new menu items, and they’re doing really well. Customers seem to love the seasonal specials. Morgana’s been signing off on everything remotely, but honestly, she’s been distant. Understandably so.”I nodded, flipping through the reports. The numbers looked solid. “You’re doing great, Clara. Morgana will appreciate this.”Clara gave me a grateful smile, but before she could respond, I felt a hand on my arm—a touch too familiar. I turne

His eyes met mine briefly before shifting to Lila, softening with concern.“Hey, Sophia,” he greeted warmly. “Glad to know you’re here.”Before I could respond, Lila let out a soft cry and threw her arms around him. Adrian caught her effortlessly, wrapping her in a tight embrace. Her shoulders shook as she buried her face into his chest, and he murmured something soothing into her hair.“It’s good you showed up,” I said gently, stepping back to give them space. “You’re just what she needs right now.”Adrian led Lila inside, still holding her close. She clung to him as though he were a lifeline, her earlier composure crumbling into quiet sobs. It was clear that th
